• How to manage state in REST

  I guess this question will sound familiar, but I am yet another programmer baffled by REST. I have a traditional web application which goes from StateA to StateB and so on If the user goes to (url of) StateB, I want to make sure that he has visited StateA before. Traditionally, I'd do this using session state. Since session state is not allowed in REST, how do I achieve this?

  I'm using Eclipse to write php and naturally I get color coding like all IDEs do. How do I get the same effect in a blog? See this example (scroll down to see the code colors), he has full colors, green, red, blue, pretty acceptable I'd say http://www.tellinya.com/read/2007/06/15/20.html Is there something that's standalone PHP that can achieve this, or do I need a plugin and install a CMS? I'd prefer standalone I guess if possible.

• In Eclipse, how can spaces behave as tabs ?

  I have replaced all my tabs by spaces. But now, when I hit backspace to remove an indentation level, it removes only one space. So I have to hit 4 times space to remove an indentation level. That is one of the most absurd thing I've seen in Eclipse, so I guess there is an option somewhere to enable us to remove 4 spaces as if it where a tab ? (because we use spaces instead of tabs for practical reason, 4 spaces is supposed to mean "1 tab") Thanks Note : I use Eclipse PDT

• How do I get just the x or y position of the background image using prototype?

  Hey, I'm making a simple user friendly css editor using Prototype. Anyway, I was wondering whether I could get the background-position x/y values on their own? I wish I could do something like this but sadly it doesn't work: element.getStyle('background-position-x); I guess this is because position comes in different forms like 'center' rather than just being generic.

• will a call to std::vector.clear() also set the std::vector.reserve() to zero?

  If I use .reserve(items) on a vector, the vector will allocate enough memory for my guess of the number of items that I'll need. If I later on use .clear(), will that just clear the vector or save my earlier defined reserve? thanks.

Does anyone know how I can add a custom Toolbar to my Cocoa/MacRuby application, which will accept "regular" items for e.g. switching the view (see http://www.stevestreeting.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/SelectableToolbarDemo001.png). I've read some tutorials and I guess I have to create a custom delegate for the Toolbar and then connect it via the Outlets window, but how does the myCustomDelegate.rb have to look like? • PAM authentication problem

  I am using this module to authenticate using pam: http://code.google.com/p/web2py/source/browse/gluon/contrib/pam.py I can call authenticate('username','password') and it returns True/ False. It works for any 'username' but 'root'. My guess is that there is a security restriction in PAM that does not allow to check for the root password. I need to be able to check the root password. Is there anything I can change in the pam.conf or somewhere else to remove this restriction?

  Hi, I've got an Access application with an update query with the following syntax: UPDATE TABLE1, TABLE2 SET TABLE2.VALUE1 = TABLE1.VALUE1, TABLE2.VALUE2 = TABLE1.VALUE2, TABLE2.VALUE3 = TABLE1.VALUE3, TABLE2.VALUE4 = TABLE1.VALUE4 The query is working but I do not understand what's going on here.   What's the difference between these setInterval calls and which ones should be used? setInterval("myFunction()",1000) setInterval("myFunction",1000) setInterval(myFunction(),1000) setInterval(myFunction,1000) My guess is that JS uses eval() on the first two (strings) and calls the latter two directly. Also, I don't understand the difference between the calls with and without parentheses. The ones with parentheses call it directly and then periodically call its return value?

  In a view of my app I subclass tableViewController and has an activity indicator shown up when the table content is loading. I put it in the center of the screen but it scroll with the tableView (I guess the reason is I add it as a subview of the table view). • Python: Converting legacy string dates to dates

  We have some legacy string dates that I need to convert to actual dates that can be used to perform some date logic. Converting to a date object isn't a problem if I knew what the format were! That is, some people wrote 'dd month yy', othes 'mon d, yyyy', etc. So, I was wondering if anybody knew of a py module that attempts to guess date formats and rewrites them in a uniform way?   From the Python 2.6 shell: >>> import sys >>> print sys.getdefaultencoding() ascii >>> print u'\xe9' é >>> I expected to have either some gibberish or an Error after the print statement, since the "é" character isn't part of ASCII and I haven't specified an encoding. I guess I don't understand what ASCII being the default encoding means.
