• Ignore subdomain rewrite rules

  I'm having difficulty having a sub folder act differently to the main domain in my web.config for iss.   i work on a little php platform and my server is nginx. The first version of this php site was developed for Apache server. I need to upgrade the site and to migrate it to nginx server. The problem is url rewriting. I have this simple url rewrite rules in my Apache server: RewriteEngine On RewriteBase /simple-php/ RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d [NC] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ viewpost.php?id=$1 [QSA,L] I can't "translate" this to nginx rewrite syntax. • Mechanics of reasoning during programming interviews

  This is not the usual "I don't want to write code during an interview", in this question the assumption is that I need to write code during an interview (think about the level of rewriting the quicksort or mergesort from scratch) I know how the algorithm work or I have a basic idea of how I should start working from there, i.e. I don't remember the algorithm by heart I noticed that even on a whiteboard, I always end up writing bugged code or code that doesn't compile. If there's a typo, whatever I usually live with that.. but when there's a crash due to some uncaught particular case I end up losing confidence in my skills. I realize that perhaps interviewers might want to look at how I write code and/or how I solve problems rather than proof-compiling my whiteboard code, but I'd like to ask how should I approach the above problem in mental terms, i.e. what mental steps should I follow when writing code for an interview with the two bullet points above. There must be a unique and agreed series of steps I should follow to avoid getting stuck/caught into particular exception cases (limit cases) that might end up wasting my time and my energies rather than focusing on the overall algorithm for the general case. • 500 Internal Server Error after moving Joomla installation to new environment

  (This is the first time I moved the website so please don't be hard on me.) After moving the website, the homepage shows up properly but other pages do not. I get 500 Internal Server Error on all other pages. Before moving, the Search Engine Friendly URLs and Use URL rewriting were enabled in the Joomla Dashboard. Is this the reason the other pages are not showing up? If so, how do I fix this? I think the homepage shows up because the url myWebsite.com redirects to myWebsite.com/index.php automatically. Note that I have transferred all of the Joomla the files through Filezilla and imported the MySQL database properly and also edited the configuration.php as set the proper settings for the database.

• PHP Runs Very Slow on IIS7. Need Help optimizing our config

  Am running a PHP based web app on our Windows 2008 cloud-based server. The app, which runs fine outside of our environment (e.g. a different IIS server), but is VERY slow in our environment. Based on googling this is a relatively common situation. I installed PHP and MySQL via the IIS web deployment method... Here's our setup: Windows 2008 Server Enterprise SP2 (32-bit) Microsoft-IIS/7.0 MySQL client version: mysqlnd 5.0.8-dev - 20102224 $Revision: 321634 $ PHP extension: mysqli Update for IIS 7.0 FastCGI Windows Cache Extension 1.1 for PHP 5.3 I had read elsewhere that ipv6 might be an issue, so I turned this off on the network adapter. The app is using: localhost as its connection Be easy on me, as I'm a bit green about some of these components... Also, rewriting the PHP app or modifying it is NOT an option. I'm reasonably SURE that our config is the issue.

• Reverse proxy with SSL and IP passthrough?

  Turns out that the IP of a much-needed new website is blocked from inside our organization's network for reasons that will take weeks to fix. In the meantime, could we set up a reverse proxy on an Internet-based server which will forward SSL traffic and perhaps client IPs to the external site? Load will be light. No need to terminate SSL on the proxy. We may be able to poison DNS so original URL can work. How do I learn if I need URL rewriting? Squid/apache/nginx/something else? Setup would be fastest on Win 2000, but other OSes are OK if that would help. Simple and quick are good since it's a temporary solution. Thanks for your thoughts!

  Since Apache 2.4 I've started using mod_remoteip instead of mod_extract_forwarded for rewriting client address from x-forwarded-for provided by frontend servers (varnish, squid, apache etc). So far everything works fine with the modules, i.e. php, cgi, wsgi etc... - client addresses are shown as they should be, but I couldn't write client address in access logs (%a, %h, %{c}a). No luck - I'm always getting 127.0.0.1 (localhost forward ex.). How to log client's ip address when using mod_remoteip?

• Logging the client IP with Nginx/Varnish/Apache

  I have Nginx listening on port 443 as an SSL terminator, and proxying unencrypted traffic to Varnish on the same server. Varnish 3 is handling this traffic, and traffic coming in directly on port 80. All traffic is passed, unencrypted, to Apache instances on other servers in the cluster. The Apache instances use mod_rpaf to replace the logged client IP with the contents of the X-Forwarded-For header. My problem is that if the traffic is coming via Nginx, while the 'correct' client IP is getting logged in the VarnishNCSA logs, it looks as if Varnish is (understandably) replacing Nginx's X-Forwarded-For header with 127.0.0.1 downstream, and this is getting logged with Apache. Is there a nice simple way to stop Varnish rewriting X-Forwarded-For if it's already populated?

• How to correctly write an installation or setup document

  I just joined a small start-up as a software engineer after graduation. The start-up is 4 year old, and I am working with the CEO and the COO, even if there are some people abroad. Basically they both used to do almost everything. I am currently on some kind of training phase. I have at my disposition architecture, setup and installation internal documentation. Architecture documentation is like a bible and should contain complete information. The rest are used to give directions in different processes. The issue is that these documents are more or less dated, as they just didn't have the time to change them. I will be in charge of training the next hires, and updating these documents is part of my training. In some there is a lot of hard-coded information like: Install this_module_which_still_exists cd this_dir_name_changed cp this_file_name_changed other_dir_name_changed ./config_script.sh ./execute_script.sh The issues i have faced : Either the module installation is completely different (for instance now there is an rpm, or a different OS) Either names changed, and i need to switch old names by new names Description of the purpose of the current step missing. Information about a whole topic is missing Fortunately these guys are around and I get all the information I want and all the explanations I need. I want to bring a design to the next documents so in the future people don't feel like they are completely rewriting a document each time they are updating it. Do you have suggestions? If there is a lightweight design methodology available online you can point me to it's nice too. One thing I will do for sure is set up a versioning repository for the documents alone. There is already one for the source code so I don't know why internal documents deserve a different treatment.

  After arriving at this point in Learning Python The Hard Way I am wondering if this is a good practice to create a list of symbols and define what they do as noted in bold below, for every programming language. This seems reasonable, and might be very useful to have when jumping between programming languages? Is this something that programmers do or is it just a waste of effort? Exercise 22: What Do You Know So Far? There won't be any code in this exercise or the next one, so there's no WYSS or Extra Credit either. In fact, this exercise is like one giant Extra Credit. I'm going to have you do a form of review what you have learned so far. First, go back through every exercise you have done so far and write down every word and symbol (another name for 'character') that you have used. Make sure your list of symbols is complete. Next to each word or symbol, write its name and what it does. If you can't find a name for a symbol in this book, then look for it online. If you do not know what a word or symbol does, then go read about it again and try using it in some code. You may run into a few things you just can't find out or know, so just keep those on the list and be ready to look them up when you find them. Once you have your list, spend a few days rewriting the list and double checking that it's correct. This may get boring but push through and really nail it down. Once you have memorized the list and what they do, then you should step it up by writing out tables of symbols, their names, and what they do from memory. When you hit some you can't recall from memory, go back and memorize them again.

  SO I am trying to setup a RewriteRule on my server for caching static objects. the files are in this naming scheme /docroot/css/stylesheet.min.css and I have them printed in the code like /docroot/css/stylesheet.min.123438348.css (the number is example it comes from a get modified function). • Is is better to combine Apache for file manipulation and upload and Nginx for static file serving, or to use one of the two alone

  Based on my research, I've read that nginx is best and ideal for serving up static files and images. My application depends heavily on uploading of images and rewriting them, then serving them up. Given that I only have one VPS currently, it has been suggested that I use nginx to serve up the images and website, and reverse proxy to Apache (on the same VPS) to rewrite files with image magick and handle the file uploads. Which would be the best solution, Apache, Nginx, or Apache + Nginx? In terms of best solution, I'm looking at minimal average RAM consumption, while maintaining decent load speed of maybe sub 2 seconds?

• logparser not matching on a LIKE pattern

  Hi I seem to have the strangest problem. I am using logparser to search an event log for some text that I know is there (i copied and pasted the string from the event into the sql search string). But the sql LIKE statement is returning a empty results. But other LIKE statments seem to be working file.   Hello, I'm trying to select and de-select dates on a C# Web Calendar control. The problem I have is that I can select or deselect dates except when there is only a single date selected. Clicking on it does not trigger the selection changed event, so Ineed to do something on the dayrender event but I'm not sure what or how. Any ideas?   I've a created a simple scrollviewer (pnlDayScroller) and want to have a separate horizontal scrollbar (associated scroller) to do the horizontal scrolling. All works with the below code accept I need to bind the visibility of the associated scroller. I can't simply bind this to the visibility property of the horizontal template part of the scroll viewer as I've set this to be always hidden. The only way I can think to do this is to bind the visibility of the associated scroller to a function such that If associatedScroller.scrollableWidth > 0 then associatedScroller.visibility = visibility.visible else associatedScroller.visibility = visibility.collapsed end if Is this possible to do and if so how do I do it?   Hello, BindingSource.AddingNew is never called when I leave the cell of my datagrid. The DataGrid has as datasource the BindingSource which again has a "List" of "Customer". What does the BindingSource need to create a new Customer object and add it to the underlying ICustomerList ? Of course a interface has no constructor... There appears to be an issue when using it in a hidden control that is later revealed, such as a <div> tag with visible=false.   I have an Entity Framework data model. Part of the model is a Customer entity. The web service provides a method to get a customer, and to receive an updated version of this customer to be persisted. To test this, I created a new ASP.NET web Application, (Solution Add New Project ASP.NET Web Application), then added a reference to my service reference using the standard Add Service Reference dialog. I then call the service using the following code: var client = new CustomerServiceClient(); var customer = client.GetCustomerByID(18); // get it customer.LimitDown = 100; // change it client.SaveCustomer(customer); // persist it Everything works as expected. Now, I do exactly the same thing, but this time with as ASP.NET Web Site (Solution Add New Web Site ASP.NET Web Site). I add the reference in a similar fashion and copy and paste the code above into the new site. But now I get the following exception thrown on the 4th line: System.InvalidOperationException The EntityReference object could not be serialized.
