• Which UML tool can really round-trip java code?

  Hello, Many UML tools claim to do forward / reverse engineering of Java code. However, it turns out from prior experience, that few tools really work in this area. I haven't been doing Java projects for 3 years, and want to get up to date with the current status in this area. In Particular I am interested in Creating State Machine Skeletons from Diagram, be able to create hooks to my own code, and be able to reverse engineer the State Diagram back (Do not want to change the State Machine itself outside the Tool). Which UML tools works in this area? Enterprise Architecht? Visual Paradigm? Others? Geir Ove Norway

• GWT complex app, many screens. Architecture?

  I'm making a GWT application which will have many screens. There will be a menu on the left and clicking a menu option will open the relevant module in the right side content area. Clicking on items in the content area will link to other modules that open in the same content area. How do I implement this architecture? How do I pass objects between the different content modules? How do I isolate each module into its own package? Can all of these be within the same Eclipse project? Anything else that should be considered?

  I have a simple bit of jQuery in doc ready which toggles a div containing a textarea: $('div#addnote-area').hide(); // hide the div $('a#addnote-link').click(function() { // click event listener on link $('div#addnote-area').toggle(); // toggle the hidden div }); The toggle works fine when clicking the link. The problem I'm having is that if div#addnote-area is below the browser's current viewport, it remains there when it's shown. I have a task sheet that looks like Area 1 item 1 startTime endTime Area 1 item1 startTime endTime I wish to create a display where I can view what even is happening next, either endTime or startTime i.e. Newcastle reel 16:45 18:45 Newcastle reel2 17:45 19:45 would output Newcastle reel 16:45 Newcastle reel 17:45 Newcastle reel 18:45 Newcastle reel 19:45 More so, I would like to detect if the time is a startTime or an endTime would I have to enter two rows for each activity (time,area,item, start|end). • result set using two different views (from an if statement)

  Hi All, I have a bit of code that works with a result set called "result" (original I know) but depending on the incoming variable I'd like to fire the specific query depending. I have the below in an if statement but that just makes the "result" recordset gets those nasty red lines and it doesn't work. • How to design model for multi-tiered data?

  Say I have three types of object: Area, Subarea and Topic. I want to be able to display an Area, which is just a list of Subareas and the Topics contained in those Subareas. I never want to be able to display Subareas separately - they're just for breaking up the Topics. Topics can, however, appear in multiple Areas (but probably under the same Subarea). How would I design a model for this? I could use ForeignKey from Topic to Subarea and from Subarea to Area, but it seems unnecessarily complex given that I never want to interact with subareas themselves. Also, none of these objects are ever altered or added to by the user. They're just for me to represent information. Maybe there is a better way to represent it all?

  I am currently building my own CMS for various reasons that could take a long to explain... However i am looking for a dynamic solution to create templates for pages within the CMS and all areas must be editable via the administration area, maybe large text areas broken into multiple areas, text and image area on a page etc. Following on from the above i would like to create the following: Create a new page (selecting a pre-defined template like below) http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/9872/nestedpages.png and then upon editing the page it would have created as many text editors required for each editable region or a file upload control for an image area for example. i am thinking of using nested masterpages for the design elements, just unsure the best-practice way to achieve the above (db structure etc) I somehow hope this provides enough information but are happy to answer any questions you may have. • jQuery - Drag of elements in areas - then not draggable any more

  Hello! I have three div areas. Creating an element, which is draggable() with jQuery UI, I can drag it all over the screen. Dropping it in a special area, then I can not drag it any more. I created a full working demo: http://jsbin.com/enusu4/2/ There you can create a draggable element which is placed into the left green area. Dragging it to the middle or right green area, I can not drag the element. I increment the zIndex of the elements, but it does not work. Does anyone can help me, what's wrong? Best Regards.

• Accessing apache on virtual pc

  I am using a virtual pc to test my website. I can access all my webpages on the virtual pc. However, images don't load correctly. I can browse to my images folder and view all of them. However, if I click an image it will not load, and the apache log shows the virtual pc's ip trying to view the image: 192.168.0.55 - - [25/Jun/2009:20:10:41 -0400] "GET /images/pic.png HTTP/1.1" 302 220 Now, if I refresh the page it loads. 192.168.0.55 - - [25/Jun/2009:20:10:51 -0400] "GET /images/bg.png HTTP/1.1" 200 214 Also, images won't load in html or css. It seems like a redirecting problem or something, but I have no clue how to fix it. Thanks for any advice

  I need my web app to restart the dansguardian service (on CentOS) so it needs to run '/sbin/service dansguardian restart' I have a shellscript in /home/topological called apacherestart.sh which does the following: #!/bin/sh id=`id` /sbin/service dansguardian restart r=$? return $r This runs ok (logger statement in script for testing output to syslog, so I know it's running) To make it run, I put this in /etc/sudoers: User_Alias APACHE=www # Cmnd alias specification Cmnd_Alias HTTPRESTART=/home/topological/apacherestart.sh,/sbin/e-smith/db,/etc/rc7.d/S91dansguardian # Defaults specification # User privilege specification root ALL=(ALL) ALL APACHE ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: HTTPRESTART So far so good. But the service does not restart. To test this I created a user david, and fudged the uid/gid in /etc/passwd to be the same as www: www:x:102:102:e-smith web server:/home/e-smith:/bin/false david:x:102:102:David:/home/e-smith/files/users/david:/bin/bash then logged in as david and tried to run the apacherestart.sh. The problem I get is: /etc/rc7.d/S91dansguardian: line 51: /sbin/e-smith/db: Permission denied even though S91dansguardian and db are in the sudoers command list. Any ideas?

• Why might login failures cause SQL 2005 to dump and ditch?

  Our SQL 2005 server began timing out and finally stopped responding on Oct 26th. The application logs showed a ton of 17883 events leading up to a reboot. After the reboot everything was fine but we were still scratching our heads. Fast forward 6 days... it happened again. Then again 2 days later. The last night. Today it has happened three times to far. The timeline is fairly predictable when it happens: Trans log backups. Login failure for "user2". Minidump Another minidump for the scheduler Repeated 17883 events. Server fails little by little until it won't accept any requests. Reboot is all that gets us going again (a band-aid) Interesting, though, is that the server box itself doesn't seem to have any problems. CPU usage is normal. Network connectivity is fine. We can remote in and look at logs. Management studio does eventually bog down, though. Today, for the first time, we tried stopping services instead of a reboot. All services stopped on their own except for the SQL Server service. We finally did an "end task" on that one and were able to bring everything back up. It worked fine for about 30 minutes until we started seeing timeouts and 17883's again. This time, probably because we didn't reboot all the way, we saw a bunch of 844 events mixed in with the 17883's. Our entire tech team here is scratching heads... some ideas we're kicking around: MS Cumulative Update hit around the same time as when we first had a problem. Since then, we've rolled it back. Maybe it didn't rollback all the way. The situation looks and feels like an unhandled "stack overflow" (no relation) in that it starts small and compounds over time. Problem with this is that there isn't significant CPU usage. At any rate, we're not ruling SQL 2005 bug out at all. Maybe we added one too many import processes and have reached our limit on this box. (hard to believe). Looking at SQLDUMP0151.log at the time of one of the crashes. There are some "login failures" and then there are two stack dumps. 1st a normal stack dump, 2nd for a scheduler dump.   I'm trying to enable anonymous access to a single service in my Samba config. Authorized user access is working perfectly, but when I attempt a no-password connection, I get this message: Anonymous login successful Domain=[...] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.3.8-0.51.el5] tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE The message log shows this error: ... smbd[21262]: [2010/05/24 21:26:39, 0] smbd/service.c:make_connection_snum(1004) ... smbd[21262]: Can't become connected user! The smb.conf is configured thusly: [global] security = ads obey pam restrictions = Yes winbind enum users = Yes winbind enum groups = Yes winbind use default domain = true valid users = "@domain admins", "@domain users" guest account = nobody map to guest = Bad User [evilshare] path = /evil/share guest ok = yes read only = No browseable = No Given that I have 'map to guest = Bad User' and 'guest ok' specified, I don't understand why it is trying to "become connected user". Should it not be trying to "become guest user"?

• dhcpd: varying vendor-class-identifier

  I'm having trouble selectively sending parameters in response to a DHCP Inform packet using groups (or even without, just using host declarations) for bootp stuff. My configuration file right now looks like: subnet 130.123.131.128 netmask 255.255.255.128 { allow unknown-clients; } host dev-mac-09 { option vendor-class-identifier "example-identifier"; hardware ethernet 10:9a:dd:51:ff:83; } If I put vendor-class-identifier in the global scope, using tcpdump I can see that the client receives the vendor class option successfully. If I take it out, and just keep it in the host scope (or group scope), the client never receives the option. Specifying option dhcp-parameter-request list 60 doesn't help either. I did try using a class definition inside a group, but then it applied even if the host wasn't a part of the group. As an aside, how do I get detailed logging? At least something to indicate what groups and things got used to generate the response to the client.

• MySQL dump, output each table row on a new line whilst using --extended-insert

  I'm having an issue, where for ease of use, I'd like to be able to format a command line MySQL dump so that each row of a given table is on a new line when using the --extended-insert option. Usually when using --extended-insert, every row of a given table is outputted on one line, and as far as I am aware there's no way to change this, other than post-processing the dump with perl or such like. The format I'm looking for is: -- -- Dumping data for table `ww_tbCountry` -- INSERT INTO `ww_tbCountry` (`iCountryId_PK`, `vCountryName`, `vShortName`, `iSortFlag`, `fTax`, `vCountryCode`, `vSageTaxCode`) VALUES (22, 'Albania', 'AL', 1, 0.00, '8', 'T9'), (33, 'Austria', 'AT', 1, 15.00, '40', 'T9'), (40, 'Belarus', 'BY', 1, 0.00, '112', 'T9'), (41, 'Belgium', 'BE', 1, 15.00, '56', 'T9'), (51, 'Bulgaria', 'BG', 1, 15.00, '100', 'T9' However, when I dump a database using Phpmyadmin, using --extended-insert, each row is dumped on a new line (as shown by the example above). It is known that certain AMD64 Linuxes are subject of being unresponsive under heavy disk I/O (see Gentoo forums: AMD64 system slow/unresponsive during disk access (Part 2)), unfortunately have such one. I want to put /var/tmp/portage and /usr/portage trees to a separate partition, but what FS to choose for it? Requirements: * for journaling, performance is preffered over safe data read/write operations * optimized to read/write 10000 of small files Candidates: * ext2 without any journaling * BtrFS In Phoronix tests, BtrFS had demonstrated a good random access performance (fat better than XFS thereby it may be less CPU-aggressive). However, unpacking operation seems to be faster with XFS there, but it was tested that unpacking kernel tree to XFS makes my system to react slower for 51% disregard of any renice'd processes and/or schedulers. Why no ReiserFS? Google'd this (q: reiserfs ext2 cpu): 1 Apr 2006 ... Surprisingly, the ReiserFS and the XFS used significantly more CPU to remove file tree (86% and 65%) when other FS used about 15% (Ext3 and ... Is it same now?
