• What web server should I use if I want to run Java code behind it?

  At the moment, I have lot's of Java which does all kind of nifty stuff and I'm happy with it. The code is command line driven which have been great so far, but I recently decided I want to make the functionality available through web-services. Since my is complex and I'm happy with the way it's written , I don't want go through the pain of porting it to other languages. So I set out on a google journey to find out what web servers exist (on a Linux machine, though it's interesting to hear the answer without that limitation). From what I could find, it seems that there are two viable options: Apache Tomcat and Sun Java Server. What are the reason to choose one on top of the other? what are the strength of each and what are the weaknesses? Or, perhaps, there is a third one which is much easier, flexible and less cumbersome. Anyone?

  Hi, I saw any post about Reachability but people doesn't really give the exact answer to the problem. In my application I use the Reachability code from apple and in my appDelegate I use this: -(BOOL)checkInternet { Reachability *reachability = [Reachability reachabilityWithHostName:@"www.google.com"]; NetworkStatus internetStatus = [reachability currentReachabilityStatus]; BOOL internet; if ((internetStatus != ReachableViaWiFi) && (internetStatus != ReachableViaWWAN)) { internet = NO; }else { internet = YES; } return internet; } So the problem is even if I have an internet connection, this code telling me that I don't have one. Since the call to channel.__next__ needs to be returned when the callback <IRCClient instance>.privmsg is called, there doesn't seem to be a clean option. Using exceptions or threads seems like the wrong thing here, is there a simpler (blocking?) way of using twisted that would make this possible?

  Basically I am looking for a Shopping Mall system in PHP. User included Member / User Administrator Vendor Affiliate I find a lot ecommerce that support multiple shop, but each vendor don't have their own login and management. And in the front I would like to share the cart. and can buy from different shop. If multiple subdomain supported that would be more better. Web 2.0 design would be much more preferable. Any suggestion? I google some of it, hopefully can get more references. Buy / Open source also please advice. I don't think this kind of system got open source :p

  Hello! Does anyone know how to read c,š,ž characters in http get response properly? When i make my request in browser the browser displays all characters correctly. But in java program with apache jars i don't know how to set the encoding right. I tried with client.getParams().setParameter(CoreProtocolPNames.HTTP_CONTENT_CHARSET, "UTF-8"); but it's not working.   I would like this to be the ultimate discussion on how to check if a table exists in SQL Server 2000/2005 using SQL Statement. When you Google for the answer, you get so many different answers. Is there an official/backward & forward compatible way of doing it? • Adding to the browser user agent string?

  I have a plug-in that handles its own url schema (something like mystuf:// ). If a user clicks on such a link when the plug-in isn't installed (s)he gets an ugly error. So I extended my installer to write into the Registry (for Internet Explorer) and the user.js (for Firefox) to ADD a custom string to the user agent string. These additions survive a browser upgrade nicely (Microsoft uses this technique to indicate the presence of the dotNet Framework). Now I need to extend this to Apple Safari and Google Chrome on all supported platforms. To be clear: I'm not looking how to REPLACE the user agent string, but how to amend it with additional information. Any hint?

• IIS Browser caching not working

  Hi, I have enabled caching in IIS 6 for all our static images and CSS(by right clicking on those folders in IIS and enabled Content Expiration after 30 days under HTTP Headers). When I run Google PageSpeed, and look at the resources tab, the status of those images and css shows up as 200, but I was expecting a 304(not modified). When I checked Yahoo.com in Pagespeed, all its images have a 304 status. So my caching is not working? or is this how IIS content expiration works. Any help would be appreciated.

  Is there anyway Encryption on an unidentified file can be broken(file in question: config file and log files from ardamax keylogger). These files date back all the way to 2008. I searched everywhere, nothing on slashdot, nothing on google. Ardamax Keyviewer? Should I just write to Ardamax? I am at a loss of what to do. I feel comprimised. Anyone managed to decrpyt files with Crypto-analysis?

• Shipping Integration into a Rails App

  I'm working on integrating a shipping solution into a Rails ecommerce app. We're only going to use one shipping provider. So the question is: Fedex or UPS? I'm wondering what Rails developers think about the tech side of this question. What do you think about the APIs, ease of integration, focus on developer's needs between Fedex and UPS? I was leaning towards Fedex, but from looking at the developers resources sections of both sites, it seems that UPS might be more developer friendly. Also, I'm going to be using Shopify's active_shipping gem: http://github.com/Shopify/active_shipping And I also based my app off the Spree Ecommerce solution, but I don't think that's particularly relevant to the question. Spree wrote a wrapper to integrate active_shipping with the Spree system. I gave away all my points, so SO wont' let me post another link in this question. But if you google "Spree active-shipping", their wrapper on github is the first result. Thanks.

• calender with multiple data sources at once??

  Im looking for a (free) solution to a bookingcalender. Among many candidates Ive found the Jquery Full Calender which has many cool features. One of the reason that I like this one is because it has "drag and drop" and resize, which I also need. But I also need to have the dayview where I the columms monday, tuesday, wedensday, thursday friday .... gets replaced with fx. Room1, Room2, Room3, Room4, Room5, Room6, Room7.   Hi, I have an executable that run time should take configuration parameters from a script file. This way I dont need to re-compile the code for every configuration change. Right now I have all the configuration values in a .h file. Everytime I change it i need to re-compile. The platform is C, gcc under Linux. What is the best solution for this problem? I looked up on google and so XML, phthon and Lua bindings for C. Is using a separate scripting language the best approach? If so, which one would you recommend for my need? Thanks

• Test wordpress sites for SQL Injection on siteurl

  I have a client who's wordpress sites have gotten hacked twice by iframe scammers. Each time they've injected iframe code into the content of the sites. This last time, today, they simply changed the siteurl in wp_options to their iframe code. The result was obvious and appeared to simply botch the paths of the scripts that rely on I can't determine if its a password compromise (on FTP or WordPress itself) or a SQL injection to alter siteurl. Since the only thing that was altered is siteurl, I'm thinking perhaps SQL Injection. What are your thoughts? Any way to scan a site for potential SQL injection vulnerabilities? The only active plugins on the site are contact form 7 and google xml sitemaps.

  Hi, I'm getting a little bit frustrated since I can't find out which variables I can access with the ${...} syntax in a Struts tag, placed in a JSP page. As an example I've got the following code: Where does the object "status.menueStatus" have to be defined in order to can be accessed with a dollar sign and braces. • XML format for blogs and/or CMS

  I'm writing my own blog/CMS engine (using WebApp and Google App Engine), and I'm looking for a light-weight XML format to use for content storage. Is there some already existing format that could be used for this purposes? Maybe some subset of the DocBook or ePub format? I had a look at those and they seem to be a little of overkill for what I want to do. Then again WXR (Wordpress eXtended RSS) or the one from Pluxml (pluxml.org) might be suited as well. Any ideas?

• Tiling solution for the iPhone that can handle infinite # of tiles

  I have been looking at ways to implement a tiling solution on the iPhone/iPad similar to something like Google Maps. I have looked at examples of how to implement a CATiledLayer into a view that is inside a UIScrollView. Then when you scroll the view, the tiles request the new data to be shown. However, this seems to work when you have a finite view size (ie: 3000x3000). However, how could I work this into a tiling solution for much larger sizes. Basically, I want to be able to show data as needed for tiles as large as I can. Can I somehow use CATiledLayer to do this? Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

• Debug C# Windows Service

  Scenario I've got a windows service written in C#. I've read all the google threads on how to debug it, but I still can't get it to work. I've run "PathTo.NetFramework\InstallUtil.exe C:\MyService.exe"........It said the install was successful, however when I run "Services.msc", The service isn't displayed at all, anywhere. If I go into Task Manager, there is a process called "MyService.vshost.exe".....pretty sure that's not it, because it's a service, not a process........Any suggestions and/or help? Greatly appreciated. Other I'm running VS2008.

• Easy to implement .net library for geocoding using a free service?

After a search here, on google and codeplex.com, I have found there to be a few options, that seem like they will do what I ask for... But some of them could be crap and a waste of time - and some might just be stellar. Which one is the one to go for? Have you used any of them?

• Interpreting Search Results

  Hi all, I am tasked with writing a program that, given a search term and the HTML source of a page representing search results of some unknown search engine (it can really be anything, a blog, a shop, Google, eBay, ...), needs to build a data structure of the results containing "what's in the results": a title for earch result, the "details" link, the position within the results etc. It is not known whether the results page contains any of the data at all, and whether there are any search results. The goal is to feed the data structure into another program that extracts meaning. What I am looking for is not BeautifulSoup or a RegExp but rather some clever ideas or algorithms on how to interpret the HTML source. What do I do to find out what part of the page constitutes a single result item? How do I filter the markup noise to extract the important bits? What would you do? Pointers to fields of research covering what I try to to are aly greatly appreciated. Thanks, Simon

In my database i have store = "Via Rápida" i'm doing : local = Local.objects.filter(name__icontains=request.GET['descricao']) with that i can get everthing fine like "Via Rapida" but the result that have "Via rápida" never get match in the query (ASCI caracter may be ?) what must i do given a string "Via rapida" match "via rápida" and "via rapida" ? • Modifying records in my migration throws an authlogic error

  I'm adding some columns to one of my database tables, and then populating those columns: def self.up add_column :contacts, :business_id, :integer add_column :contacts, :business_type, :string Contact.reset_column_information Contact.all.each do |contact| contact.update_attributes(:business_id => contact.client_id, :business_type => 'Client') end remove_column :contacts, :client_id end The line contact.update_attributes is causing the following Authlogic error: You must activate the Authlogic::Session::Base.controller with a controller object before creating objects I have no idea what is going on here - I'm not using a controller method to modify each row in the table. Nor am I creating new objects. The error doesn't occur if the contacts table is empty. I've had a google and it seems like this error can occur when you run your controller tests, and is fixed by adding before_filter :activate_authlogic to them, but this doesn't seem relevant in my case. Any ideas? I'm stumped.

• Programming Environment that runs directly on the iPhone or iPad?

  Is there a development environment that runs directly on an the iPhone OS? I will be without access to a computer/internet for some time, but will have the use of an iPad (WiFi, jailbroken). Do you know of any way to dabble with programming directly on the device. Since apple is commit to not let it happen, I assume I will have to find such an environment on cydia (or a 'similar' site). I don't seem to be able to find the correct google incantations (search terms) to locate such a package.

• What's the best self-tracking software for Linux?

  I'm looking for a way to track myself and receive quality data upon which I can write future scripts/programs. For example, I use Google Reader a lot. I'd like to track the hrefs that garner my clicks. Further, I'd like to drop all of the words of each href into a database where they can be stacked in a hierarchical manner. At the end of the week I want to know that "Ubuntu" garnered 448 clicks and "Cheetos" garnered 2. :) That's just one example... I'd like this tracking and data-collecting to extend beyond my browser. I know writing something to do this myself wouldn't be too awfully difficult but if something already exists I'd happily use it. Thanks in advance. Primary OS: Ubuntu 10.04
