  This is the webservice method i have LoadImageFromDB(int ID, ref Stream streamReturnVal) I have this on the top of the section using Stream = System.IO.MemoryStream; Whenever i consume this method(update web reference) from a web application, i get this error 'Stream' is an ambiguous reference between 'System.IO.Stream' and 'WebReference.Stream' Any thoughts? • System.Net.WebProxy in .NET Client

  I don't yet have a good understanding of how the network is set up at my current client, but here is my issue. The vendor has a normal URL, but it might be a leased line. I have a .NET program that calls an external .asmx service. If I go to IE, Connections, LAN Settings, and uncheck "Automatic detect settings" and uncheck "Use Automatic Configuration Sript", then the .NET program runs and access the web service fine. But then, to access internet again from the browser, I have to re-check the two boxes, and so on throughout the day while we are testing and browsing. I'm hoping to put some code like this in the .NET program to avoid us having to constantly change: if (chkUseProxy.Checked) { myclient.Proxy = new System.Net.WebProxy(""); } I tried null and empty string and so far not able to connect without errors. Is this possible, and if so, what might be the correct parms for the constructor? Or are there other objects or properties that would need to be set? Thanks, Neal Walters

• Object Reference Error filling a datarow

  This is the code: Dim dr() As DataRow = DataSet.Tables("TableName").Select("EVENTNAME = '" & name & "'") I get an "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." Error when this line is executed. It is looping through a list of selected items in a listbox. I think it has to do with how I have the datarow declared because I can look at the name and I see it ok and I also do a null check on the name before I use it. Visual Studio 2008, VB.NET. Any ideas? Yep it was a wrong table name. I guess after looking at the code for 8 hours that minor detail I just wasn't thinking to check. Thanks!

  The challenge is to find the fastest way to determine in C/C++ the length of a c-string using bitwise operations in C. char thestring[16]; The c-string has a max size of 16 chars and is inside a buffer If the string is equal to 16 chars doesn't have the null byte at the end. I am sure can be done but didn't got it right yet.   I need to determine the COM component(unmanaged code) type and invoke the exposed interface's methods using reflection in C# at runtime. First What member of "Type" tells that type is COM component and we can take CLSID at runtime? Is Type.COMObject? I need to call methods of exposed interfaces as they called in unmanaged code using CoCreateInstance by passing CLSID and REFID ... I am using InvokeMember but it returns null or 0 as out parameter. How to pass out parameter in this case.? Is there any need to pass out parameter? As all my COM unmanaged code suppose to take last parameter as an OUT parameter and after executing it puts the result into that out param. But I've converted all my unmanaged COM code to .NET managed assemblies using tlbimp.exe.

I have this problem using JBOSS, EJB3 and MSSQL Express . i'm trying to persist an entity with an Blob attribute which was converted into a byte[], apparently it create the entity perfectly, no error was logged at jboss's console. but when i check into database the column is null. i already checked the Object to byte[] method and it is fine. i tried assigning Image and varbinary(Max) data type to this column. so i really don't know what it happening, why the column is not inserted into database. thanks a lot.

For work I'm dealing with a large database (160 million + rows a year, 10 years of data) and have a quandary; A large percentage of the data we upload is null data and I'd like to stop it from being uploaded. The data in question is spatial in nature, so I have one table like so: idLocations (Auto-increment int, PK) X (float) Y (foat) Alwaysignore (Bool) Which is used as a reference in a second table like so: idLocations (Int, PK, "FK") idDates (Int, PK, "FK") DATA1 (float) DATA2 (float) ... DATA7 (float) So, Ideally I'd like to find a method where I can do something like: INSERT INTO tblData(idLocations, idDates, DATA1, ..., DATA7) VALUES (...), ..., (...) WHERE VALUES(idLocations) NOT LIKE (SELECT FROM tblLocation WHERE alwaysignore=TRUE ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE DATA1=VALUES(DATA1) So, for my large batch of input data (250 values in a block), ignore the inserts where the idLocations matches an idLocations values flagged with alwaysignore. • UserControl Behaviour on a Windows Form

  Hi, I have a usercontrol UC1 with a combobox and a button. From the constructor, after initializing all the controls, I am populating the combobox with an array of information brought from other class library. I have kept the UC1 on windows form. When I tried to open the form's designer I see some errors and a suggestion to rebuild to fix the errors. After searching over net I found that the logic of populating the combobox is the culprit. I changed the code with an additional check of null and the issue is fixed now. My question is, how am i able to see the same usercontrol seperatly in designer view, but not when i placed the UC1 on a form and trying to see the designer view for the form? The same combobox populating logic should affect the drawing of UC1 when I try to see it in designer view right? Thanks, AK.

  Hi Guys, I can't seem to retrieve ALL videos from a particular channel on YouTube, despite the API giving example code that should perform just that. I'm using Java. http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/users/GoogleDevelopers/uploads The above rss feed is the URL they suggest using along with the following sample code.. /*init the list*/ String feedUrl = "http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/users/GoogleDevelopers/uploads"; VideoFeed videoFeeder = null; videoFeeder = serviceobject.getFeed(new URL(feedUrl), VideoFeed.class); Looping this with a for loop suggests 25 entries (as per the RSS). However - the actual number of videos uploaded is significantly larger. (662 at time of writing). My query is how on earth you retrieve everything with the API, not just a subset of the data. • How does Linq-to-Xml convert objects to strings?

  Linq-to-Xml contains lots of methods that allow you to add arbitrary objects to an xml tree. These objects are converted to strings by some means, but I can't seem to find the specification of how this occurs. The conversion I'm referring to is mentioned (but not specified) in MSDN. I happen to need this for javascript interop, but that doesn't much matter to the question. Linq to Xml isn't just calling .ToString(). Firstly, it'll accept null elements, and secondly, it's doing things no .ToString() implementation does: For example: new XElement("elem",true).ToString() == "<elem>true</elem>" //but... true.ToString() == "True" //IIRC, this is culture invariant, but in any case... true.ToString(CultureInfo.InvariantCulture) == "True" Other basic data types are similarly specially treated. So, does anybody know what it's doing and where that's described?

• NSNumberFormatter weirdness with NSNumberFormatterPercentStyle

  Hi, I need to parse some text in a UITextField and turn it into a percentage. Ideally, I'd like the user to either type something like 12 or 12% into the text field and have that be parsed into a number as a percentage. Here's what's weird. The number formatter seems to not like 12 and seems to divide 12% by 10000 instead of 100: NSNumberFormatter *formatter = [[[NSNumberFormatter alloc] init] autorelease]; [formatter setNumberStyle:NSNumberFormatterPercentStyle]; NSNumber *n1 = [formatter numberFromString:@"12"]; NSNumber *n2 = [formatter numberFromString:@"12%"]; NSLog(@"n1 = %@", n1); // n1 = (null) NSLog(@"n2 = %@", n2); // n2 = 0.0012 How do I get the formatter to return 0.12 as expected?   How can I add tabs to a tabcontrol that exists in one usercontrol from another usercontrol that is contained within a tab itself?? Can I do it without passing in the tabcontrol as a parameter in the constructor, perhaps via some static global method?   Hi, I'm using MVP in WPF and I came across a design doubt and I would to get your opinion on this: At some point I need to refresh my view and perform the same initial queries, like when the view was loading. The view's DataContext is my presenter and I have a couple of collections and other variables that are bound to the view. When I need to refresh the view, I'm clearing the collections and the variables and setting the DataContext to null. After that I fetch new data, populate the collections and set the DataContext. Is this the best way to achieve this? The issue with this, is that i'm affraid that when my app grows bigger I forget to reset some variable...the ideal would be to reload the view again in some way without having to worry with the variables I have.
