• Why I get different date formats when I run my application through IIS and Visual Studio's web serve

  I get the same culture i.e. "en-US" while running the website from both IIS and Visual Studio's web server. But I get a different date format as follows, when I run the following code: HttpContext.Current.Response.Write(System.Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture.ToString()); HttpContext.Current.Response.Write(System.Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture.DateTimeFormat.ShortDatePattern); On Visual Studio's web server: dd/MM/yyyy en-US On IIS: M/d/yyyy en-US Does "Regional and Language Options" in "Control Panel" play any role in this ? If I change the date format there in "Regional and Language Options", I see no effect in my application.

• Using Timer only once

  Hi, I want to use a timer only once, at 1 second after the initialization of my main form. I thought the following would have a message box saying "Hello World" just once, but actually a new message box says "Hello World" every one second. Why so? I had put t.Stop() in the tick event. Also, do I need to dispose the timer somehow to avoid memory leakage? • Why does this textbox binding example work in WPF but not in Silverlight?

  Why is it in the following silverlight application that when I: change the default text in the first textbox move the cursor to the second text box (i.e. take focus off first textbox) click the button that inside the button handler, it still has the old value "default text"? What do I have to do to get the binding to work in Silverlight? The same code works fine in WPF. • Nested Transaction issues within custom Windows Service

  I have a custom Windows Service I recently upgraded to use TransactionScope for nested transactions. It worked fine locally on my old dev machine (XP sp3) and on a test server (Server 2003). However, it fails on my new Windows 7 machine as well as on 2008 Server. It was targeting 2.0 framework; I tried targeting 3.5 instead, but it still fails. The strange part is really in how it fails; no exception is thrown. The service itself merely times out. I added tracing code, and it fails when opening the connection for Database lookup #2 below. I also enabled tracing for System.Transactions; it literally cuts out partway while writing the block for the failed connection. We ran a SQL trace, but only the first lookup shows up. I put in code traces, and it gets to the trace the line before the second lookup, but nothing after. I've had the same experience hitting two different SQL servers (both are SQL 2005 running on Server 2003). The connection string is utilizing a SQL account (not Windows integration). All connections are against the same database in this case, but given the nature of the code it is being escalated to MSDTC. If anyone has any additional debugging ideas (or, even better, solutions) I'd love to hear them.

  Hi, I have a problem with a client, who cannot log in to our system. We have PHP-based B2B system, which uses cookies to store session-id. The client cannot log in and is redirected to the login page, without any error message. He claims he have cookies enabled in his Firefox. Also, if he had cookies disabled, my javascript would detect this and would show him an red, very descriptive error info. He does not seen anything like this. What else could have same effect on sessions like disabled cookies in browser? Are there any proxies which filters cookies? Any AV software, etc? What to look for? Our login form works for any other user without problems.

  Hi, I've been having a problem for a while now with VMWare Workstaion. (Originally with 6.5, but now with 7.0 and 7.0.1 too). The problem occurs when I choose to shut down a guest. VMWare itself seems to hang. If I choose to shut down a guest that's opened full screen, and during the process I minimise the screen to work on other applications in the host, often (not all the time) when I return to the guest I have a 'greyed out' screen and the system becomes unresponsive. The host O/S still seems to be working, but I am unable to switch to other applications. (I can bring up the taskbar on the host and 'see' other applications and even switch to them, but VMWare still stays 'on top' being unresponsive). I can not terminate VMWare even when windows says that the application has become unresponsive and gives me the option to terminate. VMWare stays on top, and I'm forced to either shutdown, or log off and log back on in order to regain control of my computer. This happens with both Windows 7 and Windows Vista guest operating systems (32 bit), and I have had it happen on multiple host machines, and multiple guest machines too. Current Host: Windows 7 64 bit, 8GB Ram, 500GB HDD, i7 Processor. I have been searching for more than 6 months for a solution but have found none, so finally decided to post here. Does anyone know what might be causing the problem (+or even how to minimize the VM so I can at least access any other applications and save work before forcing a logoff / reboot+) would be extrememly handly. If I know the correct keystrokes to save and close in an application on the host I can do this by task-switching to the desired app to save and close successfully, but I can't see what I'm doing because VMWare Workstation is still on-top 'greyed' out. • AS3 Camera denied if loaded in a parent SWF

  Hi, I have a child SWF file that has the Camera functionality. It works fine if I run the child SWF by itself. However, when I load the child SWF into a parent SWF, the Camera functionality does not work. Doing some tracing it says that Camera access is denied. That happens without me even clicking on the deny button and in fact the usual security popup does not even show up. I have added import flash.system.Security; flash.system.Security.allowDomain("*"); to both parent and child SWF. What am I missing? It's Flash 10 player. Thank you, Tee

  I was attempting to migrate 2 virtual machines that are domain controllers between 2 datacentres running ESX 3.5 and ESX 4.1. I was advised to shut down both domain controller at the same time during the migration process. This is to avoid USN Rollback and other replication issues. The following are the steps that I was planning to perform: 1. Shutdown both DC. 2. Copy both VMs files across to new datacentre using Veeam FastSCP (connection to both vCentre through IP address instead of hostname) 3. Power them up at new datacentre. 4. Configure Network interface/DNS/DHCP for both DCs in new datacentre I have tried to use Veeam FastSCP rather than VMware Standalone Converter is because its copying rather than converting. Someone also suggested that I use backup and restore app like Veeam backup and replication software. Sounds like a simple job, but after shutting down both DCs, the transfer rate using FastSCP is so slow registering only 1KB/s as oppose to the normal 1MB/s (or more). When that attempt to transfer failed, I tried to cold clone both DCs resulted in the both ESX hosts get disconnected. I have tried troubleshooting by referring to this - VMware KB - Diagnosing an ESX Server that is Disconnected or Not Responding in VirtualCenter It seems that the DNS being down is the caused of all unusual occurrence. The moment I powered up the DCs via VMware console command, the ESX host were able to connect to the vCentre again. How can I avoid such a pitfall again? Am I doing it correctly? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

  I'm trying to create a system that will allow me to respond to the current text and auto-complete/suggest what should come next. For example if the user starts to type "Batm" then the system would respond with a menu showing the full completed word "Batman". Think of an IDE like Eclipse or Visual Studio and you get the idea. I understand how to create a popup menu in Gtk+ but what I don't understand is the following: How do I grab the word that the user is currently typing from a GtkTextView (or SourceView) so that I can do a lookup and offer suggestions? How do I position the menu in such a way that it sits next to the current text item (like it would in an IDE)? • How do you unpack gems using jruby on rails 2.3?

  I'm trying to unpack all the system gems to end up with a standalone Rails directory including all the rails gems and all the system gems. I'm starting with a bare rails setup; just did a jruby -S rails and a 'generate jdbc'. I then add a config.gem 'jdbc-mysql' to environment.rb and do the jruby -S rake gems:unpack:dependencies. After unpacking, if I do a rake I get: no such file to load -- jdbc-mysql Is there something else you need to do to get the jdbc gem unpacked? I'm using jruby 1.4.0 (and moving to 1.5 is on my todo list) and rails 2.3.8.

• Android - cant read TXT files from SDcard on real mashine?

When I run the code bellow in the virtual android (1.5) it works well, TextSwitcher shows first 80 chars from each txt file from /sdcard/documents/ , but when I run it on my Samsung Galaxy i7500 (1.6) there are no contents in TextSwitcher, however in LogCat there are FileNames of txt files.   How can I link the .dll file to an executable? I do not have the source for the dll nor executable. The two files operate on a 64-bit system. When the executable is ported from another system, I get "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002). Click OK to Terminate the program. Here's a list of the files \l2server\L2Server.exe \l2server\l2serverx64-dll.dll \l2server\Sabotage64.dll L2Server requires l2serverx64-dll.dll to execute. What i'm trying to do is to link Sabotage64.dll with L2Server.exe I used CFF Explorer as a rebuilder to no luck :(
