  • What is the best technical ebook reader? [closed]

    This is subjective and likely to be closed down. But still I am asking in hope of some answers. I am plannning to buy an ebook reader. I just wanted an opinion of other fellow programmers on which is the most suitable ebook reader for the technical book? I should be able to read codes properly in the reader without any formatting issues. Any suggesstions? PS : Will tablets like Kindle fire or samsung tab 2 will work? Any other options?

  • Export multiple values from a single Combo Box? (Adobe Acrobat)

    I'm trying to export 2 values from every single item from the combo box field. I have found two methods to insert items into a combo box: 1) insertItemAt http://www.verypdf.com/document/acrobat-forms-javascript/pg_0048.htm 2) setItems http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9/Acrobat9_HTMLHelp/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=Acrobat9_HTMLHelp&file=JS_API_AcroJS.88.748.html but neither method allows two parameters (im always get "missing ) after argument list" error from the Acrobat JavaScript Debugger) Does anyone know of a better solution for this problem?   • Can't get HP Officejet 6500 card reader to work.

    This network (wired) printer works great using the latest HPLIP drivers. However when I plug in an SD card, it just blinks and never shows up mounted anywhere. Has anyone come up with a way to mount these?   • How to I get the fingerprint reader to work on a HP ProBook 4530?

    My laptop (HP ProBook 4530) has a fingerprint device but ubuntu 12.04 didn't configure it automatically. In an effort to get it to work I installed Fingerprint-GUI. It tells me "no device detected". I checked that it is enabled in the BIOS settings.     I'm trying to copy and paste text from a PDF file. However, whenever I paste the original text it is a huge mess of garbled characters. That package is no longer in the repositories, but I assume there’s a different package meant to support fingerprint readers in thinkfinger’s place. What is the recommended fingerprint reader package? Should I just find thinkfinger on my own and use that instead?   • Adobe Reader XI doesn't allow the editing of fields in a document after it's been edited?

    One of the users at our company has a *.pdf file she received from the state of Pennsylvania. The version of Adobe Reader she is using is Adobe Reader XI 11.0.3. She uses this pdf file to send in a report. Her workflow goes like this: She makes a copy of the file. She opens the file and the file displays in purple at the top: Please fill out the following form. You can save data typed into this form. Highlight Existing Fields She fills in the specifics by entering values into the form fields. A few weeks later she returns to the same pdf document and can no longer edit the fields, instead she gets the following message: "This document enabled extended features in Adobe Reader. The document has been changed since it was created and use of extended features is no longer available. Please contact the author for the original version of this document." She's also running Windows 7 and I've been told that the issue was once fixed by setting compatibility mode on Adobe Reader XI to Windows XP SP3.

  • Is there a way to allow continuous scrolling in Adobe Reader?

    I am having to read through a MASSIVE (1000+ page) PDF specification in Adobe Reader X (version 10). It has always bugged me that if you scroll to the edge of a page, the Reader automatically jumps to the top of the next page. Is there away to cut this off so that when I reach the bottom of one page, the edge of the page meets the top of the next page and I can see a half-page of both the last and next page? I know that MS Word can and does behave this way. Can I change a setting to scroll the document in this manner in Adobe Reader?

    Thunderbird is a good rss reader in terms of being able to connect successfully to jira authenticated search feeds (where evolution-rss and Liferea can't), but really sucks when it comes to updating. A Jira search feed will give a link id to http://jira/browse/[ticket no], and if that ticket/feed-item is updated, thunderbird refuses to update it - it already has it! (even though the item date does not match). Also, if you delete the ticket update, it will never show up again for that news account. Has anybody found an RSS reader that can work with JIRA/updating RSS items? Note: this is not the same as Jira activity feeds - those work great, as each update has a unique item id To replicate: Grab a search (any search) Get it into your rss reader Read an item, modify the linked ticket Update rss and see if the ticket bumps to most recent and unread or, generically: Get an rss feed (from your hard drive?)   • Adobe Acrobat API - How to skip opening password protected PDFs?

    Hi all, I've been using Delphi and the Adobe Acrobat 9 API. I'm simply opening a PDF and printing it, followed by closing it without saving anything. I'm having an issue while opening some PDFs though. If the PDF is password protected the Open method displays Adobe's "Input password" prompt. My application is running in an automated fashion, and therefor cannot proceed beyond this password prompt until somebody clicks cancel. I've been looking for something that will either notify me that the file is password protected prior to opening it, or a parameter or something that will skip password protected files. I need my program to assume it cannot open any passworded PDF. Does anyone know enough about the Acrobat API to provide any assistance here? Thank you, Ryan

    Why does Adobe Acrobat Reader require a restart when you update it? It's a piece of software that reads PDFs. Just what else is it installing/updating that requires a total OS reboot to "complete" the installation? A bit of Googling indicates that it's to allow the OS to install the Adobe "Speed Launcher" - is this it or are there other components that are more tightly into the OS that it must absolutely have to have closed so that it can update them?

    Hello, I use Snow Leopard at home and work and recently realized that the documents I create in iWork Pages 09 don't look good in Adobe Reader. I go about creating a regular document and 'Print' - Save as PDF in Pages in OS X. The saved PDF file looks great in Preview in OS X but it looks pretty bad in Windows' Adobe Reader and even Adobe Acrobat in OS X. Is there something I could do to make it look better on both platforms? Thank you.

But I can't do that in Foxit Reader (version 3.1.4.1125, using Windows Vista Home, Chinese Traditional) Example: I open 3 files: Page2.pdf Page3.pdf Page1.pdf which opens Foxit Reader with a tab for each file, in the order Page2.pdf Page3.pdf Page1.pdf Is there a way to change the order of the tabs to Page1.pdf Page2.pdf Page3.pdf ?
