• Where can I get resources to design a website like this? [closed]

  I have a project. To make a CMS for an online game. Can anyone suggest me where I can get resources that I can use like vintage borders, seamless old papers or any vintage like patterns, etc. I would like to come up with something like this website for example: http://www.gamezaion.com/ I hope someone would suggest and/or give me ideas, inspirations, and examples how I can come up to something like it. P.S.: I am getting a hard time designing, because I define my self as a developer not a designer.. Lol.

• Calculating vertex normals on the GPU

  I have some height-map sampled on a regular grid stored in an array. Now, I want to use the normals on the sampled vertices for some smoothing algorithm. The way I'm currently doing it is as follows: For each vertex, generate triangles to all it's neighbours. This results in eight neighbours when using the 1-neighbourhood for all vertices except at the borders. +---+---+ ¦ \ ¦ / ¦ +---o---+ ¦ / ¦ \ ¦ +---+---+ For each adjacent triangle, calculate it's normal by taking the cross product between the two distances. As the triangles all have the same size when projected on the xy-plane, I simply average over all eight normals then and store it for this vertex. However, as my data grows larger, this approach takes too much time and I would prefer doing it on the GPU in a shader code. Is there an easy method, maybe if I could store my height-map as a texture?

• Scale DIV with tiles

  I am trying to create a repeating background. I have a main DIV with a grid of small 16x16 DIVs. I am trying to scale the main DIV in CSS; when the small DIVs simply have a red background color everything works great, but when there is a background image in the small DIVs then borders become visible between the tiles. • Distribution upgrade made Ubuntu unusable

  I installed today a distribution update from 11.10 to 12.04. This however basically ruined the whole OS. After update I lost all the window borders, icons and even access to the internet. I'm also unable to use the default window manager and I had to use the old gnome. The computer is Acer Aspire 5738G laptop, Intel Pentium T4500, Ati Mobility Radeon HD 560v, 4Gb DDR 3. I am using the open source drivers, not proprietary. Does anyone have any idea what could've happened, and how could I fix this. Help is highly appreciated

• Only close button shows up in Google Chrome in GNOME Shell

  After I installed the GNOME shell in Ubuntu, I decided that I didn't like having the "Close/Minimize/Maximize" buttons on the right, so I switched them over to the left using gconftool-2 --set "/apps/metacity/general/button_layout" --type string "close, minimize, maximize:" After resetting the shell, however, I found that with the GTK+ theme, only the close button shows up. Using system title bar and borders will make all the buttons appear, but I really want to use the theme because the system title bar makes the top bar too thick. Logging out and back in didn't fix it, and I tried reinstalling Chrome, but the problem persists.

• What did I do wrong when installed this theme?

  I have a problem installing a theme for my Ubuntu, note that I am very new to it and probably messed something up. Still it seems to me that I did everything like it was stated in the INSTALL file. Theme: http://opendesktop.org/content/show.php/?content=140562 So I downloaded the *.zip package, unzipped it in home/.themes folder and changed Controls and Borders inside my theme preference. Still my result is pretty poor. You can look at the image, it looks nothing like what in the screenshot of the author. I also installed fonts running sudo apt-get install ttf-mscorefonts-installer and tried to install GTK2 engine as sudo apt-get install gtk2-engines-murrine gtk2-engines-pixbuf, but it showed that 0 files was modified since I already have it. • How to get rid of the orange highlight in Unity?

  I've installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and I'm using Unity. I also installed Adwaita theme and Elementary icons. Everything is cool. Highlightings are blue, as I want them to be, but there are some places where the default orange color remains: When clicking on Workspace Switcher, the borders of the current or the selected workspace are still orange. When dragging a window to the edges of the screen, the highlight effect for the Snap Window feature is still orange as well. All other highlights are blue, according to the Adwaita theme. So, how can I get rid of those two mentioned orange highlights and turn them into blue, following the Adwaita color theme? Thanks for your attention. brunces

• How can I improve Eclipse's user Interface to get rid of the excessive padding and spacing?

  Eclipse Juno (historical versions too) has too much padding applied to the tabs and borders. This makes it hard to work with multiple project folders, especially ones containing multiple packages and nested directories, due to an overall lack of space. This only appears to be an issue on Linux. Windows and OSX both have less padding which vastly improves the user experience. This issue affects my 15.4 inch laptop with a resolution of 1366 x 768. I'm not sure if this issue affects larger resolutions. Is there a way to change the padding and make the whole application look a little more compact / smaller? I've attached a screenshot of an empty Eclipse project in Eclipse. I'll add an OSX screenshot tomorrow for comparison.

• Gnome 3 Shell extensions not working on Ubuntu 12.4 [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Gnome Shell Extension Empty I just upgraded to Ubuntu 12.4 running on a Win 7 box via VBox and switched the user interface to Gnome 3 but have a problem. In Advanced Settings (gnome tweak), the Shell Extensions window has no listings and the Theme window shows a "caution" triangle next to the Shell theme drop box. I have re-installed the default extensions using the Noobs Lab posted instructions: sudo apt-get install shell-extensions3.4 sudo apt-get install gnome-shell-extensions The commands appear to complete without error. Symptoms are: Gnome 2 visual appearance and no window borders or controls. To close a window, I have to click the window indicator in the sys tray and select the close menu item. Any ideas?

• Failed to load session "ubuntu"

  I installed CCSM to enable window previews in Unity. But when I went into extras, there was no 'window preview' option. So I tried experimenting with other options in Compiz and now there are no borders in the dialogue boxes (close, minimize, restore buttons are not there, I had enabled some 'flat....' option in Compiz. Later, I uninstalled Compiz and then reinstalled it. Now it says "Failed to load session Ubuntu" I can't even access through the guest account, I am new to Ubuntu.(please explain in detail). All I have access to is the login screen (it still shows my custom wallpaper). Please help, I don't want to lose my stuff.

• Compiz Error After Emerald Install

  Salutations! So, once again, I fell to the allure of the window decorator emerald. Where, just like the first time around, (I know I know) upon attempting to back out of emerald to the safety of compiz I'm faced with a problem. Seemingly after several minutes or after opening Chrome any window that isn't maximised has it's borders removed (so there's no close, minimise and maximise etc buttons). I can get them breifly back if I reload compiz via fusion-icon. After a brief chat on IRC it appears compiz is crashing. • How would I go about implementing a globe-like "ballish" map?

  I am new to 3D development and I have this idea of having the game world like our globe is - a ball. So, there would be no corners in the map and the game is top-down RTS game. I would like the camera to go on and on and never stop even though you are moving the camera to the same direction all the time. I am not sure if this is even possible, but I would really like to build a globe-like map without borders. Can this be done, and how exactly? I am using XNA, C#, and DirectX. Any tutorials or links or help is greatly appreciated!

• Need help with AMD catalyst control center

  I just built my first HTPC and I hooked it up to my Sony KDS-R60XBR1 and I am having display issues. I believe this is only a 1080i display and when I select 1920x1080 on the resolution I get strange lines on the display when anything moves on screen. I am guessing this is because it is putting it in 1080p and the TV cannot process that. As of now I have lowered the resolution and that worked but I would like to get this set at 1080. Also I cannot change the underscan. I am stuck with black borders around the display image. When I pull up the catalyst control center on my computer I am able to adjust all of this stuff but on the one on my HTPC with the TV display I have no options. See images below.

• Editing gtk theme (adding a border)

  I am using a GTK theme which I love except that it doesn't have borders around the windows. If I am on a web page (for example) with a white background and my wallpaper is white I don't know where the web page starts. What is worse, sometimes that type of thing happens with other windows, where I can't tell where the one window start and the other ends. Is there a way to edit GTK themes? More specifically, is there a way to edit a theme so that it will display a border around windows?

• Help to understand directions of sprites in XNA

  If I want to move a sprite to the right and upwards in a 45 degree angle I use Vector2 direction = new Vector2(1,-1); And if the sprite should move straight to right Vector2 direction = new Vector2(1,0); But how would I do if I want another directions, lets say somewhere between this values? I have tested with some other values, but then the sprite either moves to fast and or in another direction than I expected!? I suspect it's about normalize!? Another thing I have problem with to understand. I'm doing a simple asteroids game as a task in a class in C# and XNA. When the asteroids hit the window borders, I want them to bounce back in a random direction, but I can't do this before I understand how directions and Vector2 works. Help is preciated! Thanks!

• Connect divs with (non-straight) lines [migrated]

  I'd like to develop my site with a layout that looks somewhat like houses with connected plumbing, or multiple computers connected to a network. Basically, the will be boxes floating in space, with lines connecting some of the boxes. I'd like these lines to have some turns in them as well (just simple 90 degree corners) rather than just a straight line. My question is what is the best way to achieve this, and perhaps a small example. My thoughts were to use: PHP and CSS: I could create a background grid and then, with some complicated algorithms, draw paths using the grid's borders. This would be more dynamic, but I'm not sure I can plot the math all by myself. just CSS: Perhaps this is as simple as making some pre-drawn lines like L-shapes and T-junctions, then just placing and scaling them. But I don't believe there's a way to scale an image by slicing it.. so the line width would be scaled and thus each image would look different. Any thoughts?

It seems to be working fine in Firefox and Chrome, but IE displays the border directly against the image, with no padding. Any suggestions? • SSRS export to Excel UNFORMATTED

  Hey, I'm looking into SSRS with intention of exporting a lot of the reports to excel. The problem is that when you export it changes cell sizes and removes borders to try and keep the original report format. Is there anyway to stop this happening? So that the report exports to excel with the "usual" excel formatting? If it requires any coding that's fine as most of my reports will be run from C# code. Thanks Mat

• Focused animation on custom JDialog

  If a JFrame has a JDialog modal open, the JDialog is animated (the borders and title bar have a lighter colour) if any other part of the application is clicked other than the JDialog with focus. The user is made aware of the window in focus to attend to first. I have a Swing application with custom dialogs, setUndecorated(true) and custom title bars.
