I have installed cygwin in windows and want to configure ssh, to remotely connect to my laptop.     When using Cygwin, I frequently copy a Windows path and manually edit all of the slashes to Unix format. For example, if I am using Cygwin and need to change directory I enter: cd C:\windows\path then edit this to cd C:/windows/path (Typically, the path is much longer than that). Is there a way to use sed, or something else to do this automatically? For example, I tried: echo C:\windows\path|sed 's|\|g' but got the following error sed: -e expression #1, char 7: unterminated `s' command My goal is to reduce the typing, so maybe I could write a program which I could call. Ideally I would type: conversionScript cd C:/windows/path and this would be equivalent to typing: cd C:\windows\path

  • Cygwin bash syntax error - but script run perfectly well in Ubuntu

Ubuntu runs bash version 4.0+ whereas Cygwin runs 3.2.49; But I reckon version collision shall not be the cause of this, this code runs well under fedora 10 which is also using bash version 3.+ So basically I am wondering if there is a way to code my script once and for all so there are not to have this awful issue later on.   • Restrict access to SSH for one specific user

    I am looking for a way to secure my servers with the following setup: I have a server where I can log in via SSH. The main account there (named "foo") is secured by a keybased login with password. I have another user account (named "bar") that I use to log in via cronjobs running on other servers - this one also has keybased login, but without password. Now I want to limit access to this machine for the "bar" account. The account should only be accessible via known IPs. However, the "foo" account should not be affected by this, this one should basically be accessible from any IP. How can I manage this? Or is there a simpler solution to everything?

I'm using cygwin and when this line is commented out the printf's ABOVE this print to console but when include this, nothing happens. I did the following to get cygserver going- CYGWIN=server ran /bin/cygserver-config ran /usr/sbin/cygserver for the config it said the cygserver is already running And for the sygserver it saids- initailaizing complete failed to created named pipe: is the daemon already running? fatal error on IPC transport: closing down Any ideas?

    Hi, I have a bash file, which I’m trying to run in Cygwin on a Windows 7 platform, but I gives me some odd errors when doing so. The bash file works on my Linux system. The bach file looks like this: for ((r=0; r <10; r++)) netcat localhost 4444 < myfile.file & done wait but I’m getting an error for my for-loop. More precise it writes: ./tuning_test.bsh: line 1: syntax error near unexpected token `(' '/tuning_test.bsh: line 1: `?for ((r=0; r <10; r++)) I do not understand it because I was sure that I’ve a working bash file on my Linux. I even tried to find a for-loop example from a Linux-bash site and run it but with same error. I’m brand new to Cygwin and doesn’t know if it has some small quirks or some other thing I have to be aware of and I’ve tried to look through the documentation and FAQ on their homepage. THis application requires one java interface called "Serial Forwarder" , which is readily available in libraries provided. Previously i used to start this interface manually (by entering command *"java net.tinyos.sf.SerialForwarder ")*and then my application which uses this interface. But now i want to make my application independent . User need know about this background cygwin commands . 4) So in my java application i used "Runtime.getRuntime().exec( "java net.tinyos.sf.SerialForwarder)" . 5) This i neither giving any error nor starting the interface. Am I going on right way ? When i am using runtime execute command , how can i make sure that this command is called through cigwin interface ? Also .. if i want to write .bat file .. i which i can give commands which will be executed .. how can i make sure that those commands are given through cigwin .. and not through cmd.exe .. Please help . me .

    I couldn't find an answer for this exact problem, so I'll ask it. I'm working in Cygwin and want to reference previous commands using !n notation, e.g., if command 5 was which ls, then !5 runs the same command. The problem is when trying to do substitution, so running: !5:s/which \([a-z]\)/\1/ should just run ls, or whatever the argument was for which for command number 5. I've tried several ways of doing this kind of substitution and get the same error: bash: :s/which \([a-z]*\)/\1/: substitution failed

    Apparently it is possible to do this using cygwin ports, as can be seen in screenshots. I followed this how-to to get apt-cygports set up, and I used it to install gnome-session.
