  OK this may be the dumb question of the day, but supposing I have a class with : NSDecimalNumber *numOne = [NSDecimalNumber numberWithFloat:1.0]; NSDecimalNumber *numTwo = [NSDecimalNumber numberWithFloat:2.0]; NSDecimalNumber *numThree = [NSDecimalNumber numberWithFloat:3.0]; Why can't I have a function that adds those numbers: - (NSDecimalNumber *)addThem { return (self.numOne + self.numTwo + self.numThree); } I apologize in advance for being an idiot, and thanks!

• rails, activerecord callbacks not saving

  I have a model with a callback that runs after_update: after_update :set_state protected def set_state if self.valid? self.state = 'complete' else self.state = 'in_progress' end end But it doesn't actually save those values, why not? Regardless of if the model is valid or not it won't even write anything, even if i remove the if self.valid? condition, I can't seem to save the state. Um, this might sound dumb, do I need to run save on it?

• GWT: What is the way to handle Click on GWT FlowPanel

  May be a dumb question, but GWT FlowPanel (raw div element) does not provides something to handle a mouseclick/mousemovement on it. Overriding onBrowserEvent do not works either. If setting onclick event using native JavaScript (need to specify positive height before, 'div' have a height of 0 if not specified), then catching these events is working properly. Is there a way to do it without using JSNI?

• Whats better query with long where in condition or many small queries?

  Maybe it's a little dumb, but i'm just not sure what is better. If i have to check about 30k rows in db for existanse, what i'd do? #1 - one query select id from table1 where name in (smth1,smth2...{till 30k}) #2 - many queries select id from table1 where name=smth1 Though, perfomance is not the goal, i don't want to go down with mysql either ;) Maybe, any other solutions will be more suitable... • can this simple SQL query be optimized?

  Hi, I have the following query : SELECT COUNT(*) FROM Address adr INNER JOIN Auditable a on adr.UniqueId = a.UniqueId on a big DB (1.3M adresses, 4M+ auditables) both UniqueId columns are clustered primary keys the query is taking quite long to complete...I feel dumb, but is there any way to optimize it? I want to count all the address entries that have an underlying auditable... thanks!

But I know frameworks like EasyMock are perfectly capable of instantiating interfaces. What would it take to get a completely dumb Annotation instance out of my Class?

• Faster way to dump mysql

  This may be a dumb question, but I was just watching a screencast on MySQL replication, and I learned that a master database doesn't send SQL over to a slave for replication, it actually sends data over in binary, which makes importing extremely fast. I started wondering, "if a database can export and import binary, why do mysqldumps / imports take so long?" Is there a way to get mysql to dump a database in binary in a similar fashion to speed up that process as well?

• iPhone OS 3.2 (iPad) Modal View question

  I am presenting a UIViewController as a modal viewcontroller with modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationFormSheet. I have few UITextFields on its view. My issue is that when I try to dismiss the keyboard ([textfieldname resignFirstResponder]), it doesn't do anything. However when I change the modalPresentationStyle to UIModalPresentationPageSheet, it works. This seems to be a bug. Has any one faced similar problems and found a work around? Could I be doing anything dumb and silly?
