  • Customer Centricity: It's Not Easy, But Worth It

    - by tony.berk
Defining customer centricity is relatively easy: focusing on the customer and their experiences and interactions with your company. Implementing a customer centric strategy is not so easy. We've highlighted customers who have focused on their customers and experienced great success including SJ, the Swedish rail operator, and Vopak, the world's largest provider of conditioned storage facilities for bulk liquids. In this interview with Stuart Lennie, President, Volvo IT, North America and VP, Volvo's Global Sales to Order Solutions Unit, we get the opportunity to learn from another company that is not just talking about the customer, but actually implementing the significant strategic shifts required to become customer centric. Volvo has developed a vision, a strategy and a methodology to keep existing customers by understanding what is important to them. To see other customer success stories, visit Siebel CRM Success. • Transfer file using BITS without using IIS on one end?

    - by rwmnau
I know that I can transfer files using BITS and a wrapper like SharpBITS, but it seems that I need an IIS server on one end - either to upload to or download from. Is there a way to use the BITS protocol to transfer a file without requiring IIS? Some kind of a "BITS Server" or "Listener" project that my client's BITS service can connect to. I'm looking for functionality that's exactly what BITS provides, but I'd prefer not to require that IIS be installed (though if I have to, I can). Thanks!

  • Is there a remote file transfer command that preserves nanosecond timestamps?

    - by Denver Gingerich
    I've tried transferring files using scp and rsync on Ubuntu 10.04, but neither of them preserves more than second precision. Here's an example: $ touch test1 $ scp -p test1 localhost:test2 $ ls -l --full-time test* -rw-r--r-- 1 user user 0 2011-01-14 18:46:06.579717282 -0500 test1 -rw-r--r-- 1 user user 0 2011-01-14 18:46:06.000000000 -0500 test2 $ cp -p test1 test2 $ ls -l --full-time test* -rw-r--r-- 1 user user 0 2011-01-14 18:46:06.579717282 -0500 test1 -rw-r--r-- 1 user user 0 2011-01-14 18:46:06.579717282 -0500 test2 $ A straight copy works fine, but scp truncates the timestamp. Are there any tools (preferably similar to scp or rsync in their usage) that do remote file transfers while preserving nanosecond timestamps? I could write a hacky script to do it, but I'd rather not.

  • Is there an easy way to mass-transfer all files between two computers?

    - by Raven Dreamer
I'm currently visiting my parents for the Christmas holidays, and as I'm sure is the case of many in the post-tech generation, my arrival brings with it the assumption of personal tech support. I've been tasked with setting up my folks' new computer, and they want to make sure all their files, yes, all their files, get transfered over to the new device. Short of manually dragging each folder in the C:/ directory onto an external hard drive and then out onto the recipient computer, is there an easier / faster way to do this?

  • Content Length and Transfer Encoding Chunked nginx, node-http-proxy

    - by rampr
I have the following setup - node-http-proxy acts as a reverse proxy forwarding all requests to nginx/socket.io as necessary My problem is this When I send a HTTP DELETE request from the browser, node-http-proxy adds a header "Transfer Encoding Chunked" as the request from the browser had no Content Length. The request from the browser had no Content Length as it had no body. Nginx doesn't like the Transfer Encoding Chunked Header and throws a 411 asking for Content-Length. The problem gets solved when I send dummy data as part of the DELETE request so there is a Content Length and node-http-proxy doesn't add Transfer Encoding Chunked header and nginx is happy. I want to understand if node-http-proxy isn't working as expected, because it adds a Transfer Encoding Chunked header when Content Length is missing because there is no Content Body.

  • Fast (non-blocking) way to transfer many files to another server

    - by Nyxynyx
I am currently attempting to transfer over 1 million files from one server to another. Using wget, it seems to be extremely slow, probably because it starts a new transfer after the previous one has been completed. Question: Is there a faster non-blocking (asynchronous) way to do the transfer? I do not have enough space on the first server to compress the files into tar.gz and transferring them over. Thanks!

  • Is data transfer response related to cable bandwidth limit?

    - by John Paku
Hello, Before this, I'm using shared 100Mbps bandwidth. Its fast enough. And now, the server running dedicated 10Mbps bandwidth. When running 10Mbps, it takes more time to completely load the same page. The server bandwidth usage is small, with average less than 5Mbps. (I can see some website hosted at same data center loads very fast.)

  • How can I transfer a SQL Server 2005 license?

    - by jdk
I have the a wrong license number in one SQL Server. What's gone down is this: We virtualized a physical server, effectively cloning its software and licenses - SQL Server included. We want to repurpose the physical machine by keeping SQL Server and modifying its license to another license key that we have purchased. Would prefer not to reinstall SQL Server. Can it be done?

  • Backup and Transfer Foobar2000 to a New Computer

    - by Mysticgeek
If you are a fan of Foobar2000 you undoubtedly have tweaked it to the point where you don’t want to set it all up again on a new machine. Here we look at how to transfer Foobar2000 settings to a new Windows 7 machine. Note: For this article we are transferring Foobar2000 settings from on Windows 7 machine to another over a network running Windows Home Server.  Foobar2000 Foobar2000 is an awesome music player which is highly customizable and we’ve previously covered. Here we take a look at how it’s set up on the current machine. It’s a nothing flashy, but is set up for our needs and includes a lot of components and playlists.   Backup Files Rather than wasting time setting everything up again on a new machine, we can backup the important files and replace them on the new machine. First type or copy the following into the Explorer address bar. %appdata%\foobar2000 Now copy all of the files in the folder and store them on a network drive or some type removable media or device. New Machine Now you can install the latest version of Foobar2000 on your new machine. You can go with a Standard install as we will be replacing our backed up configuration files anyway. When it launches, it will be set with all the defaults…and we want what we had back. Browse to the following on the new machine… %appdata%\foobar2000 Delete all of the files in this directory… Then replace them with the ones we backed up from the other machine. You’ll also want to navigate to C:\Program Files\Foobar2000 and replace the existing Components folder with the backed up one. When you get the screen telling you there is already files of the same name, select Move and Replace, and check the box Do this for the next 6 conflicts. Now we’re back in business! Everything is exactly as it was on the old machine. In this example, we were moving the Foobar2000 files from a computer on the same home network. All the music is coming from a directory on our Windows Home Server so they hadn’t changed. If you’re moving these files to a computer on another machine… say your work computer, you’ll need to adjust where the music folders point to. Windows XP If you’re setting up Foobar2000 on an XP machine, you can enter the following into the Run line. %appdata%\foobar2000 Then copy your backed up files into the Foobar2000 folder, and remember to swap out the Components folder in C:\Program Files\Foobar2000. Confirm to replace the files and folders by clicking Yes to All… Conclusion This method worked perfectly for us on our home network setup. There might be some other things that will need a bit of tweaking, but overall the process is quick and easy. There is a lot of cool things you can do with Foobar2000 like rip an audio CD to FlAC. If you’re a fan of Foobar2000 or considering switching to it, we will be covering more awesome features in future articles. • Copy Excel Formatting the Easy Way with Format Painter

    - by DigitalGeekery
The Format Painter in Excel makes it easy to copy the formatting of a cell and apply it to another. With just a few clicks you can reproduce formatting such as fonts, alignment, text size, border, and background color. On any Excel worksheet, click on the cell with the formatting you’d like to copy.  You will see dashed lines around the selected cell. Then select the Home tab and click on the Format Painter.   You’ll see your cursor now includes a paintbrush graphic. Move to the cell where you’d like to apply the formatting and click on it. Your target cell will now have the new formatting.   If you double-clicking on Format Painter you can then click on multiple individual files to which to apply the format. Or, you can click and drag across a group of cells. When you are finished applying formats, click on Format Painter again, or on the Esc key, to turn it off. The Format Painter is a very simple, but extremely useful and time saving tool when creating complex worksheets. • Where are bluetooth received files saved

    - by Luis Alvarado
I have used Blueman and the default Bluetooth manager an every time I accept the file transfer from the Phone to the PC, it shows that it is transferring and even notifies me that the transfer was successful but I can not find the image anywhere. Where are files stored after sending them via Bluetooth to the PC? I already checked my Home folder. The Picture folder which I thought it would be the one for images. Then the document folder and afterwards I did a huge check on all folders under /home. No luck. Is nowhere. I even checked this answer with no luck.

  • Extremely slow transfer speed ubuntu -> Windows

    - by Hailwood
I have two laptops, One is running Ubuntu 12.04 (EXT4) the other is running Windows 7 (NTFS). I am copying over 40gb of data (one file) from the Ubuntu laptop to the Windows Laptop. (Browse the shared folder on Ubuntu using Windows copy/paste) But I am getting transfer speeds topping out at ~700kb/s Surely this is not right. I am transferring via wifi on both laptops. My download speeds can reach 7-8mb/s on both laptops, so I know it is not the wifi cards or the router topping out. wlan0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 84:4b:f5:db:b4:85 inet addr:192.168.1.66 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::864b:f5ff:fedb:b485/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:11941185 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:11306693 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:10087111370 (10.0 GB) TX bytes:7843524888 (7.8 GB)
