  • jpa join query on a subclass

    - by Brian
I have the following relationships in JPA (hibernate). Object X has two subclasses, Y and Z. Object A has a manyToOne relationship to object X. (Note, this is a one-sided relationship so object X cannot see object A). Now, I want to get the max value of a column in object A, but only where the relationship is of a specific subtype, ie...Y. So, that equates to...get the max value of column1 in object A, across all instances of A where they have a relationship with Y. Is this possible? I'm a bit lost as how to query it. I was thinking of something like: String query = "SELECT MAX(a.columnName) FROM A a join a.x; Query query = super.entityManager.createQuery(query); query.execute(); However that doesn't take account of the subclass of X...so I'm a bit lost. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • JPA atomic query/save for multithreaded app

    - by TofuBeer
I am in the midst of changing my JPA code around to make use of threads. I have a separate entity manager and transaction for each thread. What I used to have (for the single threaded environment) was code like: // get object from the entity manager X x = getObjectX(jpaQuery); if(x == null) { x = new X(); x.setVariable(foo); entityManager.persist(x); } With that code in the multi threaded environment I am getting duplicate keys since, I assume, getObjectX returns null for a thread, then that thread is swapped out, the next thread calls getObjextX, also getting null, and then both threads will create and persist a new X(). Short of adding in synchronization, is there an atomic way to get/save-if-doesn't-exist a value with JPA or should I rethink my approach EDIT: I am using the latest Eclipselink and MySql 5.1

  • How to find the entity with the greatest primary key?

    - by simpatico
I've an entity LearningUnit that has an int primary key. Actually, it has nothing more. Entity Concept has the following relationship with it: @ManyToOne @Size(min=1,max=7) private LearningUnit learningUnit; In a constructor of Concept I need to retrieve the LearningUnit with the greatest primary key. If no LearningUnit exists yet I instantiate one. I then set this.learningUnit to the retrieved/instantied. Finally, I call the empty constructor of Concept in a try-catch block, to have the entitymanager do the cardinality check. If an exception is thrown (I expect one in the case that already another 7 Concepts are referring to the same LearningUnit. In that case, I case instantiate a new LearningUnit with a new greater primary key. Please, also point out, if any, clear pitfalls in my outlined algorithm above.

  • Mysql maven jpa skeleton

    - by coubeatczech
    Hi, is there a skeleton for a project using mysql, some eclipse/top link with RESOURCE_LOCAL as connection type? Preferably using maven. I'm searching for it for hours and can't get running even the sipmlest exaple. So if you had it ready and running, please, post :-). Even something as simple as these two classes only. @Entity public class Message implements Serializable{ public Message() {} public Message(String s){ this.s = s; } @Id String s; public String getS(){ return s; } } public class App { static private EntityManagerFactory emf; static private EntityManager em; public static void main( String[] args ) { emf = Persistence.createEntityManagerFactory("persistence"); em = emf.createEntityManager(); Message m = new Message("abc"); em.persist(m); } }

  • Can I write to different jetty databases using JPA that is using the same "entity class"

    - by Per
I am using Java persistance and there EntityManager class and have it assigned to storage a class object that shall be written to the database. My problem is that I want to write to different databases using the same storage class. My solution to that was to write a StorageManagerfactory that has a Map holding all EntityManagers. The solution looked good until I looked at the databases and realized that all information (undepending of the Map, which gets the correct value) was written to the same database (one of the initialised in the Map). So my question is: Can I write to different databases using JPA that is using the same storage class (the class holding the structure of my database)? Thanks

  • Dynamic proxies to auto-save models

    - by atomman
I'm trying to make some auto-magic happen in java using proxies to track objects and saving them when a set* method is called. I started of using java's built in Proxy, and everything works just fine, but from what I can understand I need a interface for every model, which is something that I'm trying to avoid. This is where CGLIB comes in, it allows me to create proxies of my models without the use of interfaces. BUT, how can I now retrieve the original object, the one I am trying to save? The optimal solution to be would be something like the EntityManager interface used by hibernate, where you keep your original object, but it is still tracked.

  • Non-empty list with null elements returned from Hibernate query

    - by John
Hi, I'm new to hibernate so not sure if this is an expected behaviour, anyway: Session session = (Session)entityManager.getDelegate(); Criteria criteria = session.createCriteria(myRequest.class); criteria.add(Restrictions.eq("username", username)); criteria.setProjection(Projections.max("accesscount")); List<myRequest> results = criteria.list(); The returned results is a non-empty list with a single null element. I can't think of any reason why it should behave this way, any idea if this is the expected behaviour or have I done something wrong? System is on hibernate/Syabse. Thanks.

  • Spring @Transactional not creating required transaction

    - by Steve
    Ok, so I've finally bowed to peer pressure and started using Spring in my web app :-)... So I'm trying to get the transaction handling stuff to work, and I just can't seem to get it. My Spring configuration looks like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <beans xmlns="http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:p="http://www.springframework.org/schema/p" xmlns:tx="http://www.springframework.org/schema/tx" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans/spring-beans.xsd http://www.springframework.org/schema/tx http://www.springframework.org/schema/tx/spring-tx.xsd"> <bean id="groupDao" class="mil.navy.ndms.conops.common.dao.impl.jpa.GroupDao" lazy-init="true"> <property name="entityManagerFactory" ><ref bean="entityManagerFactory"/></property> </bean> <!-- enables interpretation of the @Required annotation to ensure that dependency injection actually occures --> <bean class="org.springframework.beans.factory.annotation.RequiredAnnotationBeanPostProcessor"/> <!-- enables interpretation of the @PersistenceUnit/@PersistenceContext annotations providing convenient access to EntityManagerFactory/EntityManager --> <bean class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.support.PersistenceAnnotationBeanPostProcessor"/> <!-- uses the persistence unit defined in the META-INF/persistence.xml JPA configuration file --> <bean id="entityManagerFactory" class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.LocalEntityManagerFactoryBean"> <property name="persistenceUnitName" value="CONOPS_PU" /> </bean> <!-- transaction manager for use with a single JPA EntityManagerFactory for transactional data access to a single datasource --> <bean id="jpaTransactionManager" class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.JpaTransactionManager"> <property name="entityManagerFactory" ref="entityManagerFactory"/> </bean> <!-- enables interpretation of the @Transactional annotation for declerative transaction managment using the specified JpaTransactionManager --> <tx:annotation-driven transaction-manager="jpaTransactionManager" proxy-target-class="true"/> </beans> persistence.xml: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <persistence version="1.0" xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence/persistence_1_0.xsd"> <persistence-unit name="CONOPS_PU" transaction-type="RESOURCE_LOCAL"> <provider>org.hibernate.ejb.HibernatePersistence</provider> ...   • Achieve Named Criteria with multiple tables in EJB Data control

    - by Deepak Siddappa
In EJB create a named criteria using sparse xml and in named criteria wizard, only attributes related to the that particular entities will be displayed.  So here we can filter results only on particular entity bean. Take a scenario where we need to create Named Criteria based on multiple tables using EJB. In BC4J we can achieve this by creating view object based on multiple tables. So in this article, we will try to achieve named criteria based on multiple tables using EJB.Implementation StepsCreate Java EE Web Application with entity based on Departments and Employees, then create a session bean and data control for the session bean.Create a Java Bean, name as CustomBean and add below code to the file. Here in java bean from both Departments and Employees tables three fields are taken. public class CustomBean { private BigDecimal departmentId; private String departmentName; private BigDecimal locationId; private BigDecimal employeeId; private String firstName; private String lastName; public CustomBean() { super(); } public void setDepartmentId(BigDecimal departmentId) { this.departmentId = departmentId; } public BigDecimal getDepartmentId() { return departmentId; } public void setDepartmentName(String departmentName) { this.departmentName = departmentName; } public String getDepartmentName() { return departmentName; } public void setLocationId(BigDecimal locationId) { this.locationId = locationId; } public BigDecimal getLocationId() { return locationId; } public void setEmployeeId(BigDecimal employeeId) { this.employeeId = employeeId; } public BigDecimal getEmployeeId() { return employeeId; } public void setFirstName(String firstName) { this.firstName = firstName; } public String getFirstName() { return firstName; } public void setLastName(String lastName) { this.lastName = lastName; } public String getLastName() { return lastName; } } Open the sessionEJb file and add the below code to the session bean and expose the method in local/remote interface and generate a data control for that. Note:- Here in the below code "em" is a EntityManager. public List<CustomBean> getCustomBeanFindAll() { String queryString = "select d.department_id, d.department_name, d.location_id, e.employee_id, e.first_name, e.last_name from departments d, employees e\n" + "where e.department_id = d.department_id"; Query genericSearchQuery = em.createNativeQuery(queryString, "CustomQuery"); List resultList = genericSearchQuery.getResultList(); Iterator resultListIterator = resultList.iterator(); List<CustomBean> customList = new ArrayList(); while (resultListIterator.hasNext()) { Object col[] = (Object[])resultListIterator.next(); CustomBean custom = new CustomBean(); custom.setDepartmentId((BigDecimal)col[0]); custom.setDepartmentName((String)col[1]); custom.setLocationId((BigDecimal)col[2]); custom.setEmployeeId((BigDecimal)col[3]); custom.setFirstName((String)col[4]); custom.setLastName((String)col[5]); customList.add(custom); } return customList; } Open the DataControls.dcx file and create sparse xml for customBean. In sparse xml navigate to Named criteria tab -> Bind Variable section, create two binding variables deptId,fName. In sparse xml navigate to Named criteria tab ->Named criteria, create a named criteria and map the query attributes to the bind variables. In the ViewController create a file jspx page, from data control palette drop customBeanFindAll->Named Criteria->CustomBeanCriteria->Query as ADF Query Panel with Table. Run the jspx page and enter values in search form with departmentId as 50 and firstName as "M". Named criteria will filter the query of a data source and display the result like below.

  • Hibernate Criteria: Perform JOIN in Subquery/DetachedCriteria

    - by Gilean
I'm running into an issue with adding JOIN's to a subquery using DetachedCriteria. The code looks roughly like this: Criteria criteria = createCacheableCriteria(ProductLine.class, "productLine"); criteria.add(Expression.eq("productLine.active", "Y")); DetachedCriteria subCriteria = DetachedCriteria.forClass(Models.class, "model"); subCriteria.setProjection(Projections.rowCount()); subCriteria.createAlias("model.language", "modelLang"); criteria.add(Expression.eq("modelLang.language_code", "EN")); subCriteria.add(Restrictions.eqProperty("model.productLine.id","productLine.id")); criteria.add(Subqueries.lt(0, subCriteria)); But the logged SQL does not contain the JOIN in the subquery, but does include the alias which is throwing an error SELECT * FROM PRODUCT_LINES this_ WHERE this_.ACTIVE=? AND ? < (SELECT COUNT(*) AS y0_ FROM MODELS this0__ WHERE modelLang3_.LANGUAGE ='EN' AND this0__.PRODUCT_LINE_ID =this_.ID ) How can I add the joins to the DetachedCriteria? • NetBeans generates JpaController with errors

    - by Xorty
Hi, I am using NetBeans 6.8 for building Spring MVC application. Techonologies : Spring MVC 2.5 Derby DB Hibernate for ORM GlassFish v3 server I use New JPA Controller Classes from Entity Classes for adding ORM file. It is supposed to generate class for managing queries with my POJO files. Problem is, that NetBeans generates following code, and won't compile : public int getBrandCount() { EntityManager em = getEntityManager(); try { CriteriaQuery cq = em.getCriteriaBuilder().createQuery(); Root<Brand> rt = cq.from(Brand.class); cq.select(em.getCriteriaBuilder().count(rt)); Query q = em.createQuery(cq); return ((Long) q.getSingleResult()).intValue(); } finally { em.close(); } } At the picture, there is NetBeans error : It looks like method getCriteriaBuilder of Entity Manager Interface is unimplemented. Or some other reason why I can't use it in code. I don't know what other info should I provide, so please ask if anything comes to your mind. Thanks

  • Netbeans / persistence API error

I am following this tutorial, I'm using netbeans 6.5.1 http://www.netbeans.org/kb/docs/java/gui-db-custom.html When I get to the part where I create the "new entity class from database", which is in the "Customizing the Master/Detail View" section of the tutoiral. I can't ever compile because I get this error in the task list (and I get a runtime error when I run)... Atleast I think these two are related. • Duplicate a collection of entities and persist in Hibernate/JPA

    - by Michael Bavin
Hi, I want to duplicate a collection of entities in my database. I retreive the collection with: CategoryHistory chNew = new CategoryHistory(); CategoryHistory chLast = (CategoryHistory)em.createQuery("SELECT ch from CategoryHistory ch WHERE ch.date = MAX(date)").getSingleResult; List<Category> categories = chLast.getCategories(); chNew.addCategories(categories)// Should be a copy of the categories: OneToMany Now i want to duplicate a list of 'categories' and persist it with EntityManager. I'm using JPA/Hibernate. UPDATE After knowing how to detach my entities, i need to know what to detach: current code: CategoryHistory chLast = (CategoryHistory)em.createQuery("SELECT ch from CategoryHistory ch WHERE ch.date=(SELECT MAX(date) from CategoryHistory)").getSingleResult(); Set<Category> categories =chLast.getCategories(); //detach org.hibernate.Session session = ((org.hibernate.ejb.EntityManagerImpl) em.getDelegate()).getSession(); session.evict(chLast);//detaches also its child-entities? //set the realations chNew.setCategories(categories); for (Category category : categories) { category.setCategoryHistory(chNew); } //set now create date chNew.setDate(Calendar.getInstance().getTime()); //persist em.persist(chNew); This throws a failed to lazily initialize a collection of role: entities.CategoryHistory.categories, no session or session was closed exception. I think he wants to lazy load the categories again, as i have them detached. What should i do now?

  • HSQLdb permissions regarding OpenJPA

    - by wishi_
Hi! I'm (still) having loads of issues with HSQLdb & OpenJPA. Exception in thread "main" <openjpa-1.2.0-r422266:683325 fatal store error> org.apache.openjpa.persistence.RollbackException: user lacks privilege or object not found: OPENJPA_SEQUENCE_TABLE {SELECT SEQUENCE_VALUE FROM PUBLIC.OPENJPA_SEQUENCE_TABLE WHERE ID = ?} [code=-5501, state=42501] at org.apache.openjpa.persistence.EntityManagerImpl.commit(EntityManagerImpl.java:523) at model_layer.EntityManagerHelper.commit(EntityManagerHelper.java:46) at HSQLdb_mvn_openJPA_autoTables.App.main(App.java:23) The HSQLdb is running as a server process, bound to port 9001 at my local machine. The user is SA. It's configured as follows: <persistence-unit name="HSQLdb_mvn_openJPA_autoTablesPU" transaction-type="RESOURCE_LOCAL"> <provider> org.apache.openjpa.persistence.PersistenceProviderImpl </provider> <class>model_layer.Testobjekt</class> <class>model_layer.AbstractTestobjekt</class> <properties> <property name="openjpa.ConnectionUserName" value="SA" /> <property name="openjpa.ConnectionPassword" value=""/> <property name="openjpa.ConnectionDriverName" value="org.hsqldb.jdbc.JDBCDriver" /> <property name="openjpa.ConnectionURL" value="jdbc:hsqldb:hsql://localhost:9001/mydb" /> <!-- <property name="openjpa.jdbc.SynchronizeMappings" value="buildSchema(ForeignKeys=true)" /> --> </properties> </persistence-unit> I have made a successful connection with my ORM layer. I can create and connect to my EntityManager. However each time I use EntityManagerHelper.commit(); It faila with that error, which makes no sense to me. SA is the Standard Admin user I used to create the table. It should be able to persist as this user into hsqldb.

  • JPA Lookup Hierarchy Mapping

    - by Andy Trujillo
    Given a lookup table: | ID | TYPE | CODE | DESCRIPTION | | 1 | ORDER_STATUS | PENDING | PENDING DISPOSITION | | 2 | ORDER_STATUS | OPEN | AWAITING DISPOSITION | | 3 | OTHER_STATUS | OPEN | USED BY OTHER ENTITY | If I have an entity: @MappedSuperclass @Table(name="LOOKUP") @Inheritance(strategy=InheritanceType.SINGLE_TABLE) @DiscriminatorColumn(name="TYPE", discriminatorType=DiscriminatorType.STRING) public abstract class Lookup { @Id @Column(name="ID") int id; @Column(name="TYPE") String type; @Column(name="CODE") String code; @Column(name="DESC") String description; ... } Then a subclass: @Entity @DiscriminatorValue("ORDER_STATUS") public class OrderStatus extends Lookup { } The expectation is to map it: @Entity @Table(name="ORDERS") public class OrderVO { ... @ManyToOne @JoinColumn(name="STATUS", referencedColumnName="CODE") OrderStatus status; ... } So that the CODE is stored in the database. I expected that if I wrote: OrderVO o = entityManager.find(OrderVO.class, 123); the SQL generated using OpenJPA would look something like: SELECT t0.id, ..., t1.CODE, t1.TYPE, t1.DESC FROM ORDERS t0 LEFT OUTER JOIN LOOKUP t1 ON t0.STATUS = t1.CODE AND t1.TYPE = 'ORDER_STATUS' WHERE t0.ID = ? But the actual SQL that gets generated is missing the AND t1.TYPE = 'ORDER_STATUS' This causes a problem when the CODE is not unique. Is there a way to have the discriminator included on joins or am I doing something wrong here?

  • Deleting JPA entity containing @CollectionOfElements throws ConstraintViolationException

    - by Lyle
    I'm trying to delete entities which contain lists of Integer, and I'm getting ConstraintViolationExceptions because of the foreign key on the table generated to hold the integers. It appears that the delete isn't cascading to the mapped collection. I've done quite a bit of searching, but all of the examples I've seen on how to accomplish this are in reference to a mapped collection of other entities which can be annotated; here I'm just storing a list of Integer. Here is the relevant excerpt from the class I'm storing: @Entity @Table(name="CHANGE_IDS") @GenericGenerator( name = "CHANGE_ID_GEN", strategy = "org.hibernate.id.enhanced.SequenceStyleGenerator", parameters = { @Parameter(name="sequence_name", value="course_changes_seq"), @Parameter(name="increment_size", value="5000"), @Parameter(name=" optimizer", value="pooled") } ) @NamedQueries ({ @NamedQuery( name="Changes.getByStatus", query= "SELECT c " + "FROM DChanges c " + "WHERE c.status = :status "), @NamedQuery( name="Changes.deleteByStatus", query= "DELETE " + "FROM Changes c " + "WHERE c.status = :status ") }) public class Changes { @Id @GeneratedValue(generator="CHANGE_ID_GEN") @Column(name = "ID") private final long id; @Enumerated(EnumType.STRING) @Column(name = "STATUS", length = 20, nullable = false) private final Status status; @Column(name="DOC_ID") @org.hibernate.annotations.CollectionOfElements @org.hibernate.annotations.IndexColumn(name="DOC_ID_ORDER") private List<Integer> docIds; } I'm deleting the Changes objects using a @NamedQuery: final Query deleteQuery = this.entityManager.createNamedQuery("Changes.deleteByStatus"); deleteQuery.setParameter("status", Status.POST_FLIP); final int deleted = deleteQuery.executeUpdate(); this.logger.info("Deleted " + deleted + " POST_FLIP Changes");

  • Google App Engine: JDO does the job, JPA does not

    - by Phuong Nguyen de ManCity fan
I have setup a project using both Jdo and Jpa. I used Jpa Annotation to Declare my Entity. Then I setup my testCases based on LocalTestHelper (from Google App Engine Documentation). When I run the test, a call to makePersistent of Jdo:PersistenceManager is perfectly OK; a call to persist of Jpa:EntityManager raised an error: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Type ("org.seamoo.persistence.jpa.model.ExampleModel") is not that of an entity but needs to be for this operation at org.datanucleus.jpa.EntityManagerImpl.assertEntity(EntityManagerImpl.java:888) at org.datanucleus.jpa.EntityManagerImpl.persist(EntityManagerImpl.java:385) Caused by: org.datanucleus.exceptions.NoPersistenceInformationException: The class "org.seamoo.persistence.jpa.model.ExampleModel" is required to be persistable yet no Meta-Data/Annotations can be found for this class. Below is the link to the source code of the maven projects that reproduce that problem: http://seamoo.com/jpa-bug-reproduce.tar.gz Execute the maven test goal over the parent pom you will notice that 3/4 tests from org.seamoo.persistence.jdo.JdoGenericDAOImplTest passed, while all tests from org.seamoo.persistence.jpa.JpaGenericDAOImplTest failed.

  • Disable caching in JPA (eclipselink)

    - by James
Hi, I want to use JPA (eclipselink) to get data from my database. The database is changed by a number of other sources and I therefore want to go back to the database for every find I execute. I have read a number of posts on disabling the cache but this does not seem to be working. Any ideas? I am trying to execute the following code: EntityManagerFactory entityManagerFactory = Persistence.createEntityManagerFactory("default"); EntityManager em = entityManagerFactory.createEntityManager(); MyLocation one = em.createNamedQuery("MyLocation.findMyLoc").getResultList().get(0); MyLocation two = em.createNamedQuery("MyLocation.findMyLoc").getResultList().get(0); System.out.println(one==two); one==two is true while I want it to be false. I have tried adding each/all the following to my persistence.xml <property name="eclipselink.cache.shared.default" value="false"/> <property name="eclipselink.cache.size.default" value="0"/> <property name="eclipselink.cache.type.default" value="None"/> I have also tried adding the @Cache annotation to the Entity itself: @Cache( type=CacheType.NONE, // Cache nothing expiry=0, alwaysRefresh=true ) Am I misunderstanding something? Thank you, James

  • Javassist failure in hibernate: invalid constant type: 60

I'm creating a cli tool to manage an existing application. Both the application and the tests build fine and run fine but despite that I receive a javassist failure when running my cli tool that exists within the jar: INFO: Bytecode provider name : javassist ... The bytecode provider then shows as cglib but I still get the exact same stack trace with javassist present in it. cglib is definitely in the classpath: $ unzip -l flexipol-jar-with-dependencies.jar | grep cglib | wc -l 383 I've tried with both hibernate 3.4 and 3.5 and get the exact same error. Is this a problem with javassist?

Here is the DDL: CREATE TABLE "APP"."MESSAGE" ( "MESSAGE_ID" INTEGER NOT NULL GENERATED ALWAYS AS IDENTITY (START WITH 1, INCREMENT BY 1) ); ALTER TABLE "APP"."MESSAGE" ADD CONSTRAINT "MESSAGE_PK" PRIMARY KEY ("MESSAGE_ID"); CREATE TABLE "APP"."GROUP_ASSOC" ( "GROUP_ID" INTEGER NOT NULL, "MESSAGE_ID" INTEGER NOT NULL ); ALTER TABLE "APP"."GROUP_ASSOC" ADD CONSTRAINT "GROUP_ASSOC_PK" PRIMARY KEY ("MESSAGE_ID", "GROUP_ID"); ALTER TABLE "APP"."GROUP_ASSOC" ADD CONSTRAINT "GROUP_ASSOC_FK" FOREIGN KEY ("MESSAGE_ID") REFERENCES "APP"."MESSAGE" ("MESSAGE_ID"); Here is the pojo: @Entity @Table(name = "MESSAGE") public class Message { @Id @Column(name = "MESSAGE_ID") @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.IDENTITY) private int messageId; @OneToMany(fetch=FetchType.LAZY, cascade=CascadeType.PERSIST) private List groupIds; public int getMessageId() { return messageId; } public void setMessageId(int messageId) { this.messageId = messageId; } public List getGroupIds() { return groupIds; } public void setGroupIds(List groupIds) { this.groupIds = groupIds; } } When we try to execute the following test code we get <openjpa-1.2.3-SNAPSHOT-r422266:907835 fatal user error> org.apache.openjpa.util.MetaDataException: The type of field "pojo.Message.groupIds" isn't supported by declared persistence strategy "OneToMany". Please choose a different strategy. Message msg = new Message(); List groups = new ArrayList(); groups.add(101); groups.add(102); EntityManager em = Persistence.createEntityManagerFactory("TestDBWeb").createEntityManager(); em.getTransaction().begin(); em.persist(msg); em.getTransaction().commit(); Help!

  • autocommit and @Transactional and Cascading with spring, jpa and hibernate

    - by subes
Hi, what I would like to accomplish is the following: have autocommit enabled so per default all queries get commited if there is a @Transactional on a method, it overrides the autocommit and encloses all queries into a single transaction, thus overriding the autocommit if there is a @Transactional method that calls other @Transactional annotated methods, the outer most annotation should override the inner annotaions and create a larger transaction, thus annotations also override eachother I am currently still learning about spring-orm and couldn't find documentation about this and don't have a test project for this yet. So my questions are: What is the default behaviour of transactions in spring? If the default differs from my requirement, is there a way to configure my desired behaviour? Or is there a totally different best practice for transactions? --EDIT-- I have the following test-setup: @javax.persistence.Entity public class Entity { @Id @GeneratedValue private Integer id; private String name; public Integer getId() { return id; } public void setId(Integer id) { this.id = id; } public String getName() { return name; } public void setName(String name) { this.name = name; } } @Repository public class Dao { @PersistenceContext private EntityManager em; public void insert(Entity ent) { em.persist(ent); } @SuppressWarnings("unchecked") public List<Entity> selectAll() { List<Entity> ents = em.createQuery("select e from " + Entity.class.getName() + " e").getResultList(); return ents; } } If I have it like this, even with autocommit enabled in hibernate, the insert method does nothing. I have to add @Transactional to the insert or the method calling insert for it to work... Is there a way to make @Transactional completely optional?

  • Creating queries using Criteria API (JPA 2.0)

    - by Pym
Hello there ! I'm trying to create a query with the Criteria API from JPA 2.0, but I can't make it work. The problem is with the "between" conditionnal method. I read some documentation to know how I have to do it, but since I'm discovering JPA, I don't understand why it does not work. First, I can't see "creationDate" which should appear when I write "Transaction_." I thought it was maybe normal, since I read the metamodel was generated at runtime, so I tried to use 'Foo_.getDeclaredSingularAttribute("value")' instead of 'Foo_.value', but it still doesn't work at all. Here is my code : public List<Transaction> getTransactions(Date startDate, Date endDate) { EntityManager em = getEntityManager(); try { CriteriaBuilder cb = em.getCriteriaBuilder(); CriteriaQuery<Transaction> cq = cb.createQuery(Transaction.class); Metamodel m = em.getMetamodel(); EntityType<Transaction> Transaction_ = m.entity(Transaction.class); Root<Transaction> transaction = cq.from(Transaction.class); // Error here. cannot find symbol. symbol: variable creationDate cq.where(cb.between(transaction.get(Transaction_.creationDate), startDate, endDate)); // I also tried this: // cq.where(cb.between(Transaction_.getDeclaredSingularAttribute("creationDate"), startDate, endDate)); List<Transaction> result = em.createQuery(cq).getResultList(); return result; } finally { em.close(); } } Can someone help me to figure this out? Thanks.

  • Disable chaching in JPA (eclipselink)
