• Problem installing Maven plugin (m2eclipse) in Eclipse (Galileo)

  I have Eclipse Galileo (for Java EE Developers) installed, and I'm now trying to get the m2eclipse Maven plugin installed as well. I follow the basic steps described at http://m2eclipse.sonatype.org/installing-m2eclipse.html, and it seems to be installing just fine. However, after restarting Eclipse after the install it doesn't seem to be anywhere. I should for instance have the ability to create a new maven project, but when the new-project wizard opens, there is no folder for Maven (I also cannot find any reference to it in the context menus of the existing projects I have). When I click at Help About Eclipse Installation Details, I find "Maven Integration for Eclipse (Required)" in the tab "Installed Software", yet another thing pointing towards a successful installation (but I can't find it under the "Plug-ins" tab, should it be there too?)... I feel like I'm just missing something very obvious, but right now I just don't see it...

• Maven mercurial extension constantly fails

  After 2+ hours I was able to get the maven-scm-provider-hg extension (for pushing to mercurial repos from Maven) semi working, meaning that it was executing commands instead of just giving errors. • build-helper-maven-plugin add-source does not working when trying to add linked resources

  I am new to maven and hit a problem that looks easy in the first place but I already kept me busy for a whole day about and no way to get it working. It looks like by default the build-helper-maven-plugin will check if the folder is there and if it is not it won’t add it. I am using maven 3.0.4 outside eclipse to run the build and I can see in the maven logs something like this: [INFO] Source directory: <some path>\properties added. This is my project structure: project1 \-- properties (this is the real folder) project2 \-- some_real_folder \-- properties (this is the link resource pointing to the project1/properties folder) All I need is to have both "some_real_folder" and the linked resource "properties" added to the .classpath of the project2

• Tomcat stops responding to JK requests

  Hello. I have a nasty issue with load-balanced Tomcat servers that are hanging up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The system I'm running Tomcat 6.0.26 on HotSpot Server 14.3-b01 (Java 1.6.0_17-b04) on three servers sitting behind another server that acts as load balancer. The load balancer runs Apache (2.2.8-1) + MOD_JK (1.2.25). All of the servers are running Ubuntu 8.04. The Tomcat's have 2 connectors configured: an AJP one, and a HTTP one. The AJP is to be used with the load balancer, while the HTTP is used by the dev team to directly connect to a chosen server (if we have a reason to do so). I have Lambda Probe 1.7b installed on the Tomcat servers to help me diagnose and fix the problem soon to be described. The problem Here's the problem: after about 1 day the application servers are up, JK Status Manager starts reporting status ERR for, say, Tomcat2. It will simply get stuck on this state, and the only fix I've found so far is to ssh the box and restart Tomcat. I must also mention that JK Status Manager takes a lot longer to refresh when there's a Tomcat server in this state. Finally, the "Busy" count of the stuck Tomcat on JK Status Manager is always high, and won't go down per se -- I must restart the Tomcat server, wait, then reset the worker on JK. Analysis Since I have 2 connectors on each Tomcat (AJP and HTTP), I still can connect to the application through the HTTP one. The application works just fine like this, very, very fast. That is perfectly normal, since I'm the only one using this server (as JK stopped delegating requests to this Tomcat). To try to better understand the problem, I've taken a thread dump from a Tomcat which is not responding anymore, and from another one that has been restarted recently (say, 1 hour before). The instance that is responding normally to JK shows most of the TP-ProcessorXXX threads in "Runnable" state, with the following stack trace: java.net.SocketInputStream.socketRead0 ( native code ) java.net.SocketInputStream.read ( SocketInputStream.java:129 ) java.io.BufferedInputStream.fill ( BufferedInputStream.java:218 ) java.io.BufferedInputStream.read1 ( BufferedInputStream.java:258 ) java.io.BufferedInputStream.read ( BufferedInputStream.java:317 ) org.apache.jk.common.ChannelSocket.read ( ChannelSocket.java:621 ) org.apache.jk.common.ChannelSocket.receive ( ChannelSocket.java:559 ) org.apache.jk.common.ChannelSocket.processConnection ( ChannelSocket.java:686 ) org.apache.jk.common.ChannelSocket$SocketConnection.runIt ( ChannelSocket.java:891 ) org.apache.tomcat.util.threads.ThreadPool$ControlRunnable.run ( ThreadPool.java:690 ) java.lang.Thread.run ( Thread.java:619 ) The instance that is stuck show most (all?) of the TP-ProcessorXXX threads in "Waiting" state. These have the following stack trace: java.lang.Object.wait ( native code ) java.lang.Object.wait ( Object.java:485 ) org.apache.tomcat.util.threads.ThreadPool$ControlRunnable.run ( ThreadPool.java:662 ) java.lang.Thread.run ( Thread.java:619 ) I don't know of the internals of Tomcat, but I would infer that the "Waiting" threads are simply threads sitting on a thread pool. So, if they are threads waiting inside of a thread pool, why wouldn't Tomcat put them to work on processing requests from JK? Solution? So, as I've stated before, the only fix I've found is to stop the Tomcat instance, stop the JK worker, wait the latter's busy count slowly go down, start Tomcat again, and enable the JK worker once again. What is causing this problem? How should I further investigate it? What can I do to solve it? Thanks in advance.

I configured settings.xml correctly (i guess so...) true http username password 12.34.56.78 8080 But still I am error message like... if i dont configure userid/password gets correct error message which is HTTP response code 407 - saying authentication required.   Hi all, I have my JAVA_HOME set to C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_18 After I run maven install I get this message from eclipse: Reason: Unable to locate the Javac Compiler in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\..\lib\tools.jar Please ensure you are using JDK 1.4 or above and not a JRE (the com.sun.tools.javac.Main class is required). In most cases you can change the location of your Java installation by setting the JAVA_HOME environment variable.   Hi, I have strange problem with my Neatens+Maven installation. This is the shortest code to reproduce the problem: public class App { public static void main( String[] args ) { // Create a scanner to read from keyboard Scanner scanner = new Scanner (System.in); Scanner s= new Scanner(System.in); String param= s.next(); System.out.println(param); } } When I'm running it as Maven Project inside Netbeans console seems to be broken. It just ignores my input. It's look like infinitive loop in System.out.println(param);. However this project works fine when it's compiled as "Java Aplication" project. It also works O.K. if I build and run it from cmd. System info: Os: Vista IDE: Netbeans 6.8 Maven: apache-maven-2.2.1 //edit Built program (using mavean from Netbeans) works fine. I just can't test it using Net beans. And I think I forgot to ask the question ;). So of course my first question is: how can I fix this problem? And second is: Is it any workaround for this? For example configuring Netbeans to run external commend line app instead of using built in console.

  I'd like to ONLY exclude certain files in maven-war-plugin when property "skipCompress" set to true, I thought I could do something like this, but it doesn't work for me. (i.e. list available goals; this question suggests this is impossible.)

• How to inherit the current path when invoking Maven's exec-maven-plugin?

  I have an <exec-maven-plugin> which calls an external command (in this case, svnversion). The command is in the path for the current user. However, when a separate shell is spawned by the plugin, the path is not initialized. I don't want to hardcode or define a variable for each external command (there would be too much to maintain, especially that there are both Windows and *nix users). I'm trying to migrate over a Makefile with the lines: neotest: mvn exec:java -Dexec.mainClass="org.dhappy.test.NeoTraverse" And I would like mvn neotest to produce what make neotest does currently. Neither the exec plugin documentation nor the Maven Ant tasks pages had any sort of straightforward example. I just want to verify that the code works in all development, testing, staging, and production once deployed there. • Using Hive in a maven project

  I have a project that I am migrating from ant to maven. The project makes use of a lightly-customized Hive build. I figured I would just import this build into our internal maven repo and list it as a dependency in the project's pom file. The problem I'm running into is that the Hive build just generates a bunch of jars in build/dist/lib. Some of these are the core Hive jars themselves and some are jars that Hive depends on. What's the best way to deal with these? Should I put all the core hive jars into our internal repo and just deal with undocumented dependencies in the new project's pom file? Or just jar up everything as a jar of jars and deploy that to the repo? Would that approach even work? Kind of a maven newbie still, thanks for any help.

Although there's a page on the Maven site about this topic, there's only one example unit test, which does nothing useful. I also found this wiki page, but it hasn't been updated for more than 4 years, so I'm reluctant to invest any faith in it. I checked the book "The Definitive Guide to Maven", but it doesn't even mention the subject.   I'm tasked with getting a development environment set up for a new program at work. The lead has chosen Eclipse as the IDE for its OSGi support and Maven as the build utility. I've struggled through getting Maven integrated with Eclipse and I'm grudgingly declaring success and moving forward. My question: is there any sort of guide to getting started with Maven? I've found boatloads of documentation, most all of it very, very detailed and simultaneously unhelpful. I downloaded a 300+ page book that goes into excruciating detail about POMs, but doesn't tell you how to initialize a project from existing source. Hopefully, this question will result in a pointer to something I missed or a collection of links for those who follow me.

  I am trying to run haproxy in front of tomcat on a Solaris x86 box, but I am getting intermittent failures. At seemingly random intervals, the request just hangs until haproxy times out the connection. I thought maybe it was my app, but I've been able to reproduce it with the tomcat manager app, and hitting tomcat directly there is no problems at all. Hitting it repeatedly with curl will cause the error within 10-15 tries curl -ikL http://admin:admin@<my server>:81/manager/status haproxy is running on port 81, tomcat on port 7000. haproxy returns a 504 gateway timeout to the client, and puts this into the log file: Sep 7 21:39:53 localhost haproxy[16887]: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:65168 [07/Sep/2009:21:39:23.005] http_proxy http_proxy/tomcat7000 5/0/0/-1/30014 504 194 - - sHNN 0/0/0/0/0 0/0 "GET /manager/status HTTP/1.1" Tomcat shows nothing, no error in the logs and no indication that the request ever makes it to the tomcat server. • Apache, Tomcat 5 and problem with HTTP basic auth

  I have setup a Tomcat with a webapp that uses http basic auth in some of its URLs. There is a Apache server in front of the Tomcat. I have setup Apache as a proxy like this (all traffic should go directly to tomcat): /etc/httpd/conf.d/proxy_ajp.conf: LoadModule proxy_ajp_module modules/mod_proxy_ajp.so ProxyPass / ajp://localhost:8009/ ProxyPassReverse / ajp://localhost:8009/ There is a webapp installed to root of Tomcat (ROOT.war), so I should be able to use http://localhost/ to access my webapp. But it is not working with http basic auth. The problem is that everything works until I try to access URL that are protected by the HTTP basic auth. URLs without authentication work just fine. When accessing this url via apache I am getting an error message from Apache. If I access the same URL directly from tomcat, everything works just fine. I am getting this to Apache error log: [Wed Sep 01 21:34:01 2010] [error] proxy: dialog to [::1]:8009 (localhost) failed access log looks like this: ::1 - - [01/Sep/2010:21:34:01 +0300] "GET /protected_path/ HTTP/1.0" 503 360 "-" "w3m/0.5.2" I am using: Fedora release 13 (Goddard) httpd-2.2.16-1.fc13.x86_64 tomcat5-5.5.27-7.4.fc12.noarch The basic auth is implemented in the webapp (not in Apache or Tomcat). The webapp is actually implemented in Scala/Lift, but that shouldn't matter. The auth works if I access the tomcat directly. Error message that I am getting from Apache. It is curious that the title is Unauthorized and not Internal error: Unauthorized The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later. If this is the problem, how to fix it?

  Assume we have a few projects, each containing some web resources (e.g., html pages). parent.pom +- web (war) +- web-plugin-1 (jar) +- web-plugin-2 (jar) ... Let's say web is the deployable war project which depends on the known, but selectable, set of plugins. What is a good way to setup this using Spring and maven? Let the plugins be war projects and use mavens poor support for importing other war projects Put all web-resource for all plugins in the web project Add all web-resources to the classpath of all jar web-plugin-* dependencie and let spring read files from respective classpath? Other? I've previously come from using #1, but the copy-paste semantics of war dependencies in maven is horrible.

• Serving and caching content from Amazon S3 with Tomcat

  Hi all, We're looking to serve a range of content using Amazon S3 as a store for the content and Tomcat to host the web application. The content is divided into free and paid for content. We intend to authenticate the users when they access the web application running in Tomcat. Based around their authentication we are able to tell if the user has access to paid for content or simply free stuff. So I envision the flow of a request being something like this: Authenticated request to Tomcat If user is "paid" user, display links to premium content Direct requests for paid content back through Tomcat to prevent direct access to it by non-paying users. Tomcat makes request to S3 through a web cache to keep our costs down Content is returned to user. As we have to pay for each request to S3, I'd ideally like to cache content locally to the Tomcat instance after it has been requested for the first time to keep costs to a minimum and to speed things up. I would also like to be able to invalidate this cache if we publish fresh content to S3. So to confirm my proposal: Client Request - Tomcat - Web Cache - S3 To invalidate the cache, I was thinking of using something like PubSubHubbub with the cache waiting for updates to the feed for content that it should invalidate. I'd appreciate some general feedback on this approach as I've no real experience of caching and I'm sure I've made some invalid assumptions. I'd also appreciate any recommendations for caching technologies. Thanks.

• Tomcat Custom MBean

  Does anyone know how to deploy a custom MBean to Tomcat? So far I`ve found this http://www.junlu.com/list/3/8871.html. I copied my jar with my MBean to Tomcat lib directory so the Custom class loader should pick it up. I then followed the instructions but I kept getting the exception below. My MBean does definitely have a public constructor. Or some other way...
