  • DNS and DHCP not agreeing on an IP address

    I'm having a problem where our Windows Server 2003 domain controller assigns my Windows 7 computer one IP address (x.x.x.75) via DHCP, but reports another (x.x.x.84) via DNS. This causes some interesting behavior on the network. If I change my adapter settings to get IP and DNS addresses from DHCP, I can access the internet, but no one on our network can access my computer. If I change my IP manually to what DNS says it is, I lose my internet access, but everyone can get to my computer again. I know that we have some old, invalid reverse DNS pointers hanging around (a reverse lookup on an IP address often gives more than one result, usually not including the one that is correct), so that could be contributing, but my problem is recent, and the invalid reverse pointers have been around a long time. What's going on, and how do I fix it?

  • IIS rewrite rule to check for querystring and add it if its not there

    I'm trying to make a IIS URL rewrite rule that appends an URL parameter to the URL. The url parameter is hssc. So, any url that is processed through the server, needs that parameter. Keeping in mind that some urls will have their own params already, and other urls won't, and root urls, etc, sometimes it will need to add ?hssc=1 or &hssc= - so, if I have a URL that is as such: http://www.blah.com should become http://www.blah.com/?hssc=1 http://www.blah.com/index.html should become http://www.blah.com/index.html?hssc=1 http://www.blah.com/?q=5 should become http://www.blah.com/q=5&hssc=1 http://www.blah.com/index.html?q=5 should become http://www.blah.com/index.html?q=5&hssc=1 http://www.blah.com/index.html?q=5&hssc=1 should be left alone I also want it that the URL should not be hidden (as in a backend rewrite behind the scenes). I need the URL to appear in the URL, so when users copy the URL, or bookmark it, the parameter is there. I've set the condition to match it \&hssc|\?hssc - now I just need a way to write the URL, so it appears and keeps the part of the original URL that is already there.

  • Windows 7 can't connect via ethernet to Airport Extreme

    I have an Airport Extreme router, and everything works beautifully on the Mac, but my Windows 7 computer, which is connected via a regular ethernet cable, can't see any network. The Windows computer says there's no cable connected. Any ideas? Is there some kind of setting you have to enable with the Airport utility? I looked everywhere but can't find anything. Or do I need to install that Airport utility something on the PC just to connect to the router? (Haven't tried because the PC has no CD drive)

  • Linux Ubuntu: Updating the GRUB menu

    So apparently there are 2 versions of Linux on my laptop(I have a dual boot system with Linux and Windows 8 but Linux is the master OS). One of them uses the Kernel version 3.11.0 whose headers + source code are incompatible with my wireless driver. My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite with a Realtek RTL8188CE wireless lan.So the newer kernel version is still the first option on the menu and to get to Linux I use the "Previous versions of linux" which is running Kernel version 3.2.0-55. What can I do to update the grub menu so that Linux version with the 3.2.0-55 Kernel appears as the primary option? Do I need to get rid of/uninstall the newer kernel version? How can I do this without screwing up Linux entirely?

If I am dealing with 3rd party software not apart of the main distro, how do those programs interact with my update manager to notify me that those programs have available updates?   • Use synergy with KVM

    I am using synergy on a Linux Mint server with a Mac as the client. I also have a physical KVM switch. The problem I have is that when ever I switch the physical KVM to my Mac, synergy stops working as in the keyboard and mouse don't work with the Mac. Thanks in advance!

    Hi I have installed the hyper-v role on a DL580 G5 cluster. The host operating system is a server 2008 x64 patched to the maximum. Everything has gone fine, but if I install a guest operating system, actually a windows server 2008 x64 I can't reach the network from it. It send many packets, but don't received any, so I can't ping the external network as well. I have installed the latest drivers to the server and unintalled the network configuration utility from the physical server, but no luck. I added a legacy adapter to the guest binded to the same phisycal adapter on the host machine but it can't help Any idea welcome...

    Using the Microsoft Symbol Server to obtain symbol debugging information is now much easier in VS 2010. Microsoft gives you access to their internet symbol server that contains symbol files for most of the .NET framework including the recently announced availability of MVC 2 Symbols.  SETUP In VS 2010 RTM, go to Tools –> Options –> Debugging –> General. Check “Enable .NET Framework source stepping” We get the following dialog box   This automatically disables “Enable My Code”   Go to Debugging –> Symbols and Check “Microsoft Symbol Servers”. You can selectively exclude modules if you want to.   You will get a warning dialog like so: Hitting OK will start the download process   The setup is complete. You are now ready to start debugging! DEBUGGING Add a break point to your application and run the application in debug mode (F5 shortcut for me). Go to your call stack when you hit the break point. Right click on a frame that is grayed out. Select “Load Symbols from” “Microsoft Symbol Servers”. VS will begin a one time download of that assembly. This assembly will be cached locally so you don’t have to wait for the download the next time you debug the app.   We get a one time license agreement dialog box You might see an error like the one below regarding different encoding (hopefully will be fixed).    Assemblies for which the symbols have been loaded are no longer grayed out. Double clicking on any entry in the call stack should now directly take you to the source code for that assembly. AFAIK, not all symbols are available on the MS symbol server. In cases like that you will see a tab like the one below and be given the option to “Show Disassembly”. Enjoy! Now, The thing is i am facing problem when i want change something in setup.sh i have to go to each and every virtual box, or Communicate each Virtual machine through SSH from my main machine. i am thinking to write another script (ex: Update.sh),and inside that script we give one path of file which is saved and recently edited in main machine (ex: DummySetup.sh). as soon as i run that script all the setup.sh files which are saved in each virtual machines should update the change or replace contents with DummySetup.sh's contents.     I've had someone set up a domain controller on windows 2008 on one server, and sql server 2008 on another. The domain seems to be working fine, I'm logged on as a domain user on both servers, nothing seems to be a problem there. However, when I try to add a domain user/group to SQL Server Security (e.g. clicking ok from the create login screen) it says it can't find it (even though I've used the search to find the correct account in the first place), when I try to logon (even though I haven't added it yet) it says something about the account being part of an untrusted domain instead of saying I don't have permission to log on. Anyone have any ideas on what is set up incorrectly?

  • Windows server 2008 can't uninstall FTP

    I'm trying to uninstall the old IIS6 FTP service on Windows Server 2008 so that I can install FTP 7.5. In server manager I clicked remove role services and uninstalled FTP and restarted. The Web Platform Installer 2.0 RC says FTP Service is still installed but it appears uninstalled in server manager. When I try to install FTP7.5 it says that it is incompatible with FTP and that I need to uninstall that first. Is there something else that I need to do to get rid of the old FTP service?   • How to sniff for wireless MAC addresses in area - My laptop got stolen

    A few days ago my apartment got broken in, and they took all the electronics, including my $1500 laptop. We are pretty sure it's an inside job (as in someone from the same building), so I believe that the stuff is in someones apartment. Is there any tool that tells you what wireless adapters are active within range? I have my laptops MAC address, so I could use that to find out who stole it. I think it's worth a shot.   • Copying symbolic links and filenames with special characters to NAS

    I have a new Western Digital My Book Live NAS. I am trying to copy files from an old drive to the NAS. I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 and I've mounted the drive by browsing the network in Nautilus and choosing a shared folder configured on the NAS. The shared folder is then automatically mounted at .gvfs/files on mybooklive. There are two problems so far: File names and directory names containing certain characters (e.g. : or |). Attempting to copy these results in the error message: cp: cannot stat `/path/to/destination.filename': Invalid argument Symbolic links. In Nautilus I get the error message: Symlinks not supported by backend My questions are: Can I connect to the NAS or configure the NAS so that I can copy my files without this problem? (In case it matters, I don't need Windows compatibility.) If not, what can I do to identify all the problem files? Can I do anything to automatically fix my filenames Please let me know if any of this needs clarification. I'm not too familiar with all of this so I may have left out some useful information.

    My website has crashed a few days ago. The hosting company says some innodb database crashed. They sent a MySql data folder. I tried to restore the database, but phpmyadmin is only showing MyISAM tables. I checked the database with navicat. When I click innodb table, I got this error table 'xyz.wp_posts' doesn't exist. is there anyway to fix this on windows?     Hi, I am looking for a way to clone single disk drive to more than one disk drive at the same time. I have prepared system images on 1TB disks, and it takes almost 2 hours to clone one disk to another, and then it goes up exponentially, in order to have say 30 disks cloned. If it was possible to clone one disk to more than single target, it would simplify whole procedure a lot. Also, is there something that prevents this kind of operation? I mean, is there some special reason why every disk cloning software that I know about supports only single target drive? Thanks!
