• htaccess to not show index.php in sub directory

  I have a simple page structure like below /directory/subdir_1/index.php /directory/subdir_2/index.php .... (there are no other files in these directories) is it possible to have 'fake/pretty' urls for the above files as below? /directory/subdir_1 /directory/subdir_2 ... so this path would show whether the visitor typed that,/directory/subdir_2/ or /directory/subdir_2/index.php. • significance of index name in creating an index (mySQL)

  I've done something like this in order to use on duplicate key update: CREATE UNIQUE INDEX blah on mytable(my_col_to_make_an_index); and its worked just fine. I'm just not sure what the purpose of the index name is -- in this case 'blah'. The stuff I've read says to use one but I can't fathom why. It doesn't seem to be used in queries, although I can see it if I export the schema. So ... what purpose does the index name serve? If it helps the line in the CREATE TABLE ends up looking like: UNIQUE KEY `clothID` (`clothID`)

Does this allow a multi-WAN configuration? i.e. can I use 0/1 for WAN1 and FE0 as WAN2 out-of-the-box or does this require additional licensing and/or another add-on interface in slot 0?

  I realize for single applications - the application itself has to be designed to take advantage of multiple cores. But what about executing many different applications simultaneously? On my development machine at an average instance, I run multiple servers (a database server, a web server), multiple instance of IDEs (either Visual Studio or NetBeans), Web-browser with multiple tabs (in Chrome, each tab is a process on its own), FTP client, SSH client etc. Does having a multi-core system improve the ability to run multiple applications simultaneously?

  I was reviewing the updates I was about to download today and I noticed that a lot of them had to do with gesture support, noticed that many of these were new installs rather than upgrades. Has 12.04 just added multi-touch gesture support mid-release? If so, what are the capabilities that this adds? Which applications already support these capabilities and can I expect others to add support in the near future? I expected these capabilities to be introduced soon but I thought that they would only be rolled out in a new release, not as upgrades for an existing release. Anyone have any info about this?

• SQL SERVER – Index Created on View not Used Often – Observation of the View

  I always enjoy writing about concepts on Views. Views are frequently used concepts, and so it’s not surprising that I have seen so many misconceptions about this subject. To clear such misconceptions, I have previously written the article SQL SERVER – The Limitations of the Views – Eleven and more…. I also wrote a follow up article wherein I demonstrated that without even creating index on the basic table, the query on the View will not use the View. I promised in that post that I would also write an article where I would demonstrate the condition where the Index will be used. I got many responses suggesting that I can do that with using NOEXPAND; I agree. I have already written about this in my original summary article. • jqGrid - customizing the multi-select option (restrict single selection and adding custom events)

  Goal: Using the jgGrid to enable a selection of a checkbox for row selection - which is easy to set in the jqGrid - but also only allowing a single row to be selectable at a time while adding events based on whether the row was selected or de-selected. Environment: jQuery 1.4.4 jqGrid 3.4.4a Issue: The jqGrid does not support the option to restrict the multi-select to only allow for a single selection. You may ask, why bother with the multi-select checkbox function if you only want to allow for the selection of a single row? Good question, as an example, you want to reserve the selection of a row to trigger another kind of event and use the checkbox multi-select to handle a different kind of event; in other words, when I select the row I want something entirely different to happen than when I select to check off the checkbox for that row. Also the setSelection method of the jqGrid is a toggle and has no support for determining whether the checkbox has already been selected or not, So it will simply act as a switch - which it is designed to do - but with no way out of the box to only check off the box (as in not to de-select) rather than act like a switch. Furthermore, the getGridParam('selrow') does not indicate if the row was selected or de-selected, which seems a bit strange and is the main reason for this blog post. Solution: How this will act: When you check off a multi-select checkbox in the gird, and then commence to select another row by checking off that row's multi-select checkbox - I'm not talking there about clicking on the row but using the grid's multi-select checkbox - it will de-select the previous selection so that you are always left with only a single selection. Furthermore, once you select or de-select a multi-select checkbox, fire off an event that will be determined by whether or not the row was selected or de-selected, not just merely clicked on. So if I de-select the row do one thing but when selecting it do another. • Fortigate 80C multi wan

  I've Fortigate 80c and two internet lines from two separate ISPs. I'm trying to distribute sessions between both internet lines following http://docs-legacy.fortinet.com/cb/html/index.html#page/FOS_Cookbook/Install_advanced/routing_ecmp_basic.html , but it seems connections go through just one of two internet lines. I have "wan1 as it's configured first, and I could edit static route table to be wan2 instead of wan1", but not both of internet lines I have. Any ideas why this happens? Thanks in advance

• how to multi-boot/upgrade linux from LVM-based partition

  i currently have FC3 linux which installed itself on the hard disk using LVM partitioning, so it is basically all one big partition. i would like to try some other distributions and upgrade to something newer, but don't want to lose my current capabilities and data files, and i know nothing or less about LVM. Is it possible (and if so an example would be nice) to install a non-LVM-based distribution on the LVM disk and have multi-boot options? Or do i have to start over new and drop the LVM? My guess is that i should save my /home (data files and .rc files) on a backup device first, then somewhere/somehow create a new partion for installing another distribution. Any LVM experts out there that have tried anything like this--well i sure could use some pointers and advice...

• Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows 7 (TrueCrypt) Multi-boot Problems

  I have now been searching days for a solution but have found nothing. I have Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows 7 with TrueCrypt as a multi-boot. It was working fine for a few weeks until I needed to reinstall Ubuntu. If I have the boot flag on the partition where Windows 7 is install (This is where the boot flags was when working before.), it boots fine in to Windows 7 but when pressing Esc it can't find grub2. If I have the boot flag on the partition where Ubuntu is install, it boots fine in to Ubuntu (by pressing Esc or typing the password) but unable to access Windows. I have tried reinstalling TrueCrypt Boot loader and repairing the header but it have no affect. My Partitions: sda1 - Windows 7 Recovery (GRUB2) sda2 - Windows 7 (TrueCrypt Boot Loader) sda3 - Ubuntu 10.10 (/) sda4 - Extended sda5 - Swap sda6 - Ubuntu (/home) Does anyone have any ideas? • Large mailbox in Outlook 2007 takes ages to index

  In our company each user has a single mailbox and all email they have ever sent/received is in that mailbox. We don't do archiving to PST and we thought that was the way forward. The problem we now have is if someone switches to another PC for the day and opens Outlook, it has to download all emails first to that PC (cached mode) but even then when they try to search for something, Outlook says items are still being indexed. One user has over 100,000 items to be indexed and it's been saying that for about a week! As a temporary workaround I have turned off instant searching which allows them to search for anything, but it takes time to filter through, and Outlook doesn't exactly indicate if it's still searching for something, so in most cases the user thinks the search isn't working when really it is and it's just taking time to populate the results. I need a solution that allows the mailbox to be indexed really quickly if the user has to login to another PC. Are we best using Online Mode instead of Cached Mode or is there another way around this? Thanks in advance.

• Changing an MSSQL clustered index field from containing "random" GUIDs to sequential GUIDs - how wil

  We have an MSSQL database in which all the primary keys are GUIDs (uniqueidentifiers). The GUIDs are produced on the client (in C#), and we are considering changing the client to generate sequential (comb) GUIDs instead of just using Guid.NewGuid(), to improve db performance. If we do this, how will this affect installations that already have data with "random" GUIDs as clustered PKs? Can anything be done (short of changing all the PK values) to rebuild the indexes to avoid further fragmentation and bad insert performance? Please give explicit and detailed answers if you can; I am a C# developer at heart and not all too familiar with all the intricacies of SQL Server. Thanks!

  I've upgraded recently from Windows Vista to Windows 8. When I try to rate my computer, it accesses DirectX 9 performance, then processes to DirectX 10 tests: And it gets stuck at this point. In 5–10 minutes, it shows error message: The video card is rather old: Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family. I'm pretty sure it does not support DirectX 10. Why does Windows assess it with DirectX 10? And how can I make it skip DirectX 10 tests and get the system rating? The driver was installed automatically by Windows 8 from Windows Update. • PostgreSQL: performance descrease due to index bloatper

  I'm running a PgSQL 8.1 on a CentOS 4.4 system (not upgradable unfortunately). There's a Java app running on top of the PgSQL daemon and we got to reindex the database every 2 months or so. Also important: the database isn't growing. It looks like the bloat is now coming faster than before and this tends to increase. • Issues resolving DNS entries for multi-homed servers

  This is difficult to explain, so bear with me. We have 2 domain controllers, each multi-homed to straddle 2 internal subnets, (subnet A and subnet B) and provide dns, dhcp, and ldap authentication. Both domain controllers each have 2 DNS entries. both entries have identical host names, but correspond to subnet A & subnet B respectively (example entries shown): dc1 host 192.168.8.1 dc1 host 192.168.9.1 dc2 host 192.168.8.2 dc2 host 192.168.9.2 We also have a 3rd subnet for our dmz, (subnet C) which neither domain controller has an IP address on, but our firewall/routing tables provide access to subnet A from subnet C and vice versa, but don't allow access to subnet B from subnet C. Here's my issue. How can I force/determine which dns entry is used when a server on subnet C queries either domain controller by host name? Right now it seems to randomly pick one of the two entries, swaps out the name for the IP address and that's that. The problem is if it randomly selects the entry that corresponds to the 9.x subnet B (no access from subnet C), then the server fails to resolve. If it picks the entry for the 8.x subnet A then it resolves (firewall/routing tables defined for communication between these 2 subnets) Here's what I'd like to know: What are Best Practices (if any) for dealing with DNS resolution on subnets that the DNS servers don't have a presence on? Can I control something akin to a metric value to force an order of DNS resolution when there are multiple entries for the same host name that correspond to different IP subnets? Should I even have 2 DNS HOST entries for the same name? Here's what I'd like to avoid: Making edits to the HOSTS files of servers on subnet C to force DNS resolution of the hostname to the appropriate subnet Adding NIC's to the DC's to have them straddle the DMZ as well, thus obtaining a third DNS entry that corresponds to subnet C Again, my apologies if this was too verbose / unclear. I have googled so many concept for building a multi-tenant app server but still don't understand how to really done it, what is the right way to do it and what is actually required to do this task. So I've come to this questions, Do I need a proxy server, dns masking, etc.. How to monitor each tenants activity What about server performance, load balancing, and scalability How to setup ssl certificate for each tenant what about application cache for each tenant Is it reliable to use the setup for production etc ... I have a very litte experience on server infrastructure, so I'm looking for a DIY walkthrough, step by step guide, or sophisticate solution ready to implemented for production

• Selecting a good SQL Server 2008 spatial index with large polygons

  I'm having some fun trying to pick a decent SQL Server 2008 spatial index setup for a data set I am dealing with. The dataset is polygons, representing contours over the whole globe. There are 106,000 rows in the table, the polygons are stored in a geometry field. The issue I have is that many of the polygons cover a large portion of the globe. This seems to make it very hard to get a spatial index that will eliminate many rows in the primary filter. For example, look at the following query: SELECT "ID","CODE","geom".STAsBinary() as "geom" FROM "dbo"."ContA" WHERE "geom".Filter( geometry::STGeomFromText('POLYGON ((-142.03193662573682 59.53396984952896, -142.03193662573682 59.88928136451884, -141.32743833481925 59.88928136451884, -141.32743833481925 59.53396984952896, -142.03193662573682 59.53396984952896))', 4326) ) = 1 This is querying an area which intersects with only two of the polygons in the table. No matter what combination of spatial index settings I chose, that Filter() always returns around 60,000 rows. Replacing Filter() with STIntersects() of course returns just the two polygons I want, but of course takes much longer (Filter() is 6 seconds, STIntersects() is 12 seconds). Can anyone give me any hints on whether there is a spatial index setup that is likely to improve on 60,000 rows or is my dataset just not a good match for SQL Server's spatial indexing ?

  I have an unordered list of eight items. On page load the first five <li> have default thumbnail images in them and the 6th one has a 1px by 1px placeholder image with the ID of $('#last'). When a user inserts a new image it replaces the 'src' of $('#last') with their new image. It's not the most efficient way but it works. <ul> <li><img src="img1.png" /></li> <li><img src="img2.png" /></li> <li><img src="img3.png" /></li> <li><img src="img4.png" /></li> <li><img src="img5.png" /></li> <li><img src="1px.png" id="last"/></li> <li></li> <li></li> </ul> When the user adds a new image the ID of $('#last') is removed and I use each() to find the next empty <li> and insert the 1px by 1px image in it, with an ID of $('#last') so it is ready for the next image upload. At this point I need to get the index() of the <li> that now has the 1px by 1px image in it, whose ID is $('#last'), so that I can store the index in the session, so when a user comes back to the page the $('#last') ID is still set and ready to accept another image. How do I get the index of the <li> with that image in it, since it was set after page load? Is there a way to use delegate() or on() to get it? i.e. how do I get the index of an element that was set after page load?

• my multi boot can't boot to XP 'resumeobject' is missing

  In my multi boot set up, booting to vista and 7 goes fine, but when I try to boot to XP, i get an error Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem: 1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer. 2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next." 3. Click "Repair your computer." If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. File: \NTLDR Status: 0xc000000e Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt. See below. Clearly the resumeobject seems to be missing in the XP entry ("Real Mode Boot sector"), only I don't know how to restore it. Vista is on **C:**, Win7 is on **F:** (as is the bootmgr ??? ) and WinXP is on **E:** What I've tried: [1] I've used about 5 windows discs, that is the Recovery Consoles from real XP install CD's and 3 virtual Recovery Consoles. All failed. The real CD's work ONE time, but won't let me finish, I only got as far as [b]fixboot E:[/b] Then they shut the laptop down, I kid you not. On a next startup, all 5 CD's ask me for some Admin password that I've never added! [2] I have VisualBCD and EasyBCD, but the most obvious things I tried there didn't solve the problem. So know I don't exactly know what to do with them.
