  • Inverted index in a search engine

    - by Ayman
Hello there, I'm trying to write some code to make a small application for searching text from files. Files should be crawled, and I need to put an inverted index to boost searches. My problem is that I kind of have ideas about how the parser would be, I'm willing to implement the AND, NOT, OR in the query. Whereas, I couldn't figure out how my index should be... I have never created an inverted index so if any body could suggest a feasable way to do it I would be very grateful... I do know in theory how it works but my problem is I absolutely have no idea to make happen in MySql I need to give keywords being indexed a weight too... Thank you so much.

  • Creating SQL Server index on a nvarchar column

    - by Jahan
When I run this SQL statement: CREATE UNIQUE INDEX WordsIndex ON Words (Word ASC); I get the following exception message: The CREATE UNIQUE INDEX statement terminated because a duplicate key was found for the object name 'dbo.Words' and the index name 'WordsIndex'. The duplicate key value is (ass). The statement has been terminated. The 'Word' column has a datatype of nvarchar(100). There are two items in the 'Word' column that SQL Server interprets as the same: 'aß' and 'ass', which causes the indexing failure. Why would SQL Server interpret those two different words as the same word?

  • postgres store with composite value type, or a better way of attributing an inverted index

    - by Hassan Syed
can't seem to figure out the syntax for populating a hstore with a value of composite type -- note: I do not want to convert a record to a hstore. select hstore('hello => ROW(1,2)'); I know it's something simple; However, google is not my friend today. use case : custom inverted index. The data is modelling an inverted index of lexemes, the composite data types are various probabilities related to the lexemes which I will use to implement document clustering. Does anyone know a better way of doing this ? I'm open to using an external system if it allows attaching attributes to key-posting pairs in the inverted index. I'd use something external if it had solid support for what I am trying to do, I suspect that sticking 3-10k lexemes per tuple and then doing batch processing on them is gonna be nasty as the whole hstore will have to be parsed and converted .

  • Creating an Extremely Large Index in Oracle

    - by Rudiger
Can someone look at the linked reference and explain to me the precise statements to run? Oracle DBA's Guide: Creating a Large Index Here's what I came up with... CREATE TEMPORARY TABLESPACE ts_tmp TEMPFILE 'E:\temp01.dbf' SIZE 10000M REUSE AUTOEXTEND ON EXTENT MANAGEMENT LOCAL; ALTER USER me TEMPORARY TABLESPACE ts_tmp; CREATE UNIQUE INDEX big_table_idx ON big_table ( record_id ); DROP TABLESPACE ts_tmp; Edit 1 After this index was created, I ran an explain plan for a simple query and get this error: ORA-00959: tablespace 'TS_TMP' does not exist It seems like it's not temporary at all... :(

  • array_merge vs array_value for resetting array index

    - by Jamex
    I have 1 array that I want to re-index. I have found that both array_values and array_merge functions can do the job (and I don't need 2 arrays for the array_merge function to work). Which is faster for a very large array? I would benchmark this, but I don't know how and don't have the large array yet. Before re-index: Array ( [0] => AB [4] => EA [6] => FA [9] => DA [10] => AF ) After re-index: Array ( [0] => AB [1] => EA [2] => FA [3] => DA [4] => AF )

  • Hibernate @Index on @Enumerated field doesn't work

    - by mlaverd
I am using Hibernate to talk to my DB. I have one field that is an enumeration and it is going to be used in a slow query. So I'd like to index it. I've put the following annotations on the field: @Column(name="RIGHT_TYPE", unique=false, nullable=false, length=10) @Enumerated(EnumType.STRING) @Index(name = "ABC_INDEX") protected RightType rightType; However, I don't see any index on that field created. But I can create one manually if I wish so. Why is that? Is there any way to force Hibernate to make it happen?

  • FF3/Windows CSS z-index problem with YouTube player

    - by Doug Kaye
I'm stuck on what appears to be a CSS/z-index conflict with the YouTube player. In Firefox 3 under Windows XP, Take a look at this page: http://spokenword.org/program/21396 Click on the Collect button and note that the pop-up <div appears under the YouTube player. On other browsers the <div appears on top. It has a z-index value of 999999. I've tried setting the z-index of the <object element containing the player to a lower value, but that didn't work. Any idea how to get the pop-up to appear over the player?

  • Which index is used in select and why?

    - by Lukasz Lysik
I have the table with zip codes with following columns: id - PRIMARY KEY code - NONCLUSTERED INDEX city When I execute query SELECT TOP 10 * FROM ZIPCodes I get the results sorted by id column. But when I change the query to: SELECT TOP 10 id FROM ZIPCodes I get the results sorted by code column. Again, when I change the query to: SELECT TOP 10 code FROM ZIPCodes I get the results sorted by code column again. And finally when I change to: SELECT TOP 10 id,code FROM ZIPCodes I get the results sorted by id column. My question is in the title of the question. I know which indexes are used in the queries, but my question is, why those indexes are used? I the second query (SELECT TOP 10 id FROM ZIPCodes) wouldn't it be faster if the clusteder index was used? How the query engine chooses which index to use?

  • The right way of using index.html

    - by Jeyekomon
I have quite a lot of issues I'd like to hear your opinion on, so I hope I'll manage to explain it well enough. I should also note that I'm beginner equipped only with the knowledge of HTML and CSS so although I'm almost sure that there is a simple solution using powerful PHP, it won't help me. Let's say that I have my personal blog on the address example.com/blog.html and there are links to several sub-blogs example.com/blog/math.html, example.com/blog/coding.html etc. So my root folder contains blog.html and blog folder, the blog folder itself contains files math.html and coding.html. First of all, I learned (from Google Webmasters Tools) that for SEO and aesthetical purposes it's good to unify example.com.com and example.com/index.html by adding _rel="canonical"_ attribute into the source of the index.html. Using a couple of other tricks (like linking to ../ and ./) I got rid of the ugly index.html appearing in my web addresses. And now I wonder if this trick can be used not only for the root folder but for any folder? I mean, I would move my blog.html into the blog folder, rename it into the index.html and add rel="canonical" to unify example.com/blog/index.html with example.com/blog/. This trick would change the address of my blog from example.com/blog.html into example.com/blog/. Not finished! I'm also experiencing problems with the google robot indexing my folders. So when I type site:example.com/ into the google search, the link to my folder example.com/blog/ with raw files, icons etc. appears among the other results. I guess there are also other ways how to fix it, but IMHO the change mentioned above would do the trick too - the index.html in the blog folder would preserve the user from viewing the actual raw content of that folder, there would appear only the right link example.com/blog/ in the google search and (I hope that) _rel="canonical"_ would make the second, unwanted link example.com/blog/index.html not to appear in the search results. So my questions are: Is it a good practice to have the index.html file in every subfolder or is it intended to be only in the root folder? Are there any disadvantages or problems that may occur when using the second, "index in every folder" method? Which one of the two ways of structuring the website described above would you prefer?

  • Google crawled all our RSS links - how do I remove these from their index? [closed]

    - by ElHaix
Possible Duplicate: How to Remove URLs from Google Search Engine We added a RSS link to our site for our content. Since then, our site visits have diminished. If a user is viewing the RSS feed, the link itself does not go to the actual article/content. Instead, each link goes to a main index - where the content may have changed, and the article they clicked on COULD be on that page, depending on its age. The RSS link structure is as follows: www.oursite.com/[search term]/rsslink/[title of the rss link they clicked on] I'm not trying to do anything black-hat here, but wondering if we're getting penalized for this somehow. If this is the case, could I do something like permanently-removed on all /rsslink/ pages?

  • Trying to convert simple midlet application to Android application but running into problems.

    - by chobo2
Hi I am trying to do some threading in Android so I took an old threading assignment I had done fora midlet and took out the midlet code and replaced it with android code(such as textview). package com.assignment1; import android.app.Activity; import android.os.Bundle; import android.widget.TextView; public class Threading extends Activity { private TextView tortose; private TextView hare; private Thread hareThread; private Thread torotoseThread; private int num = 0; private int num2 = 0; public Threading() { } /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); tortose = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.TextView01); hare = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.TextView02); Hare newHare = new Hare(); hareThread = new Thread(newHare); hareThread.start(); Torotose newTortose = new Torotose(); torotoseThread = new Thread(newTortose); torotoseThread.start(); //updateDisplay(); } private synchronized void check(int value1, int value2) { if((value1-value2) >= 10) { try { wait(); } catch(Exception ex) { System.out.println(ex); } } } private synchronized void getGoing(int value1, int value2) { if((value1-value2) == 0) { try { notify(); } catch(Exception ex) { System.out.println(ex); } } } private class Hare extends Thread { public void run() { while(true) { num++; hare.setText(Integer.toString(num)); check(num, num2); try { // are threads different in andriod apps? Thread.sleep(100); // hareThread.sleep(100); } catch(Exception ex) { System.out.println(ex); } } } } private class Torotose extends Thread { public void run() { while(true) { num2++; tortose.setText(Integer.toString(num2)); getGoing(num,num2); try { Thread.sleep(200); //torotoseThread.sleep(200); } catch(Exception ex) { System.out.println(ex); } } } } } First it wanted me to change my threads to like static threads. So is this just how Android does it? Next when I run this code it just crashes with some unexpected error. I am not sure what the error is but when I try to debug it and goes to like to create a new "hare" object it shows me this. // Compiled from ClassLoader.java (version 1.5 : 49.0, super bit) public abstract class java.lang.ClassLoader { // Method descriptor #8 ()V // Stack: 3, Locals: 1 protected ClassLoader(); • [C++] Index strings by other strings

    - by mcco
Hello, I need to index specific strings with other strings and I can't really find a good way to do so. I tried to use tr1::unordered_map, but I'm having some difficulties using it. If someone could tell me what is the best way to do that I'd be really grateful :) I also need to index objects by a number (numbers are not in order so I can't use a vector)

  • ie7 z-index problem

    - by rezna
Hi, I've isolated a little test case of IE7's z-index bug, but don't know how to fix it. Have been playing with z-indeces all day long but it didn't. If someone knows, what to do about it, pls help ;) The test case is located here - http://upload.rezna.info/z-index-test.html The problem is, that in IE7 the second textbox is placed over the red list (suggest box). Thx, rezna

  • Multiple or single index in Lucene?

    - by Bruno Reis
I have to index different kinds of data (text documents, forum messages, user profile data, etc) that should be searched together (ie, a single search would return results of the different kinds of data). What are the advantages and disadvantages of having multiple indexes, one for each type of data? And the advantages and disadvantages of having a single index for all kinds of data? Thank you.

  • Determine if an Index has been used as a hint

    - by Joe Bloggs
In SQL Server, there is the option to use query hints. eg SELECT c.ContactID FROM Person.Contact c WITH (INDEX(AK_Contact_rowguid)) I am in the process of getting rid of unused indexes and was wondering how I could go about determining if an index was used as a query hint. Does anyone have suggestions on how I could do this? Cheers, Joe

  • Should I create a unique clustered index, or non-unique clustered index on this SQL 2005 table?

    - by Bremer
I have a table storing millions of rows. It looks something like this: Table_Docs ID, Bigint (Identity col) OutputFileID, int Sequence, int …(many other fields) We find ourselves in a situation where the developer who designed it made the OutputFileID the clustered index. It is not unique. There can be thousands of records with this ID. It has no benefit to any processes using this table, so we plan to remove it. The question, is what to change it to… I have two candidates, the ID identity column is a natural choice. However, we have a process which does a lot of update commands on this table, and it uses the Sequence to do so. The Sequence is non-unique. Most records only contain one, but about 20% can have two or more records with the same Sequence. The INSERT app is a VB6 piece of crud throwing thousands insert commands at the table. The Inserted values are never in any particular order. So the Sequence of one insert may be 12345, and the next could be 12245. I know that this could cause SQL to move a lot of data to keep the clustered index in order. However, the Sequence of the inserts are generally close to being in order. All inserts would take place at the end of the clustered table. Eg: I have 5 million records with Sequence spanning 1 to 5 million. The INSERT app will be inserting sequence’s at the end of that range at any given time. Reordering of the data should be minimal (tens of thousands of records at most). Now, the UPDATE app is our .NET star. It does all UPDATES on the Sequence column. “Update Table_Docs Set Feild1=This, Field2=That…WHERE Sequence =12345” – hundreds of thousands of these a day. The UPDATES are completely and totally, random, touching all points of the table. All other processes are simply doing SELECT’s on this (Web pages). Regular indexes cover those. So my question is, what’s better….a unique clustered index on the ID column, benefiting the INSERT app, or a non-unique clustered index on the Sequence, benefiting the UPDATE app?

  • block z-positioning without z-index

    - by Peter
Please, have a look at: http://twitter.github.com/bootstrap/base-css.html There are many examples like this one: if you look closer to the block borders, you can see that the gray block is under the white one. Using the browser's developer tools you can see that both boxes have an inherited z-index: auto; I can't reproduce this effect on my website (without using z-index). So, my question is: Why is the gray block under the white one?

  • MySQL: how to index an "OR" clause

    - by JoséMi
I'm executing the following query SELECT COUNT(*) FROM table WHERE field1='value' AND (field2 = 1000 OR field3 = 2000) There is one index over field1 and another composited over field2&field3. I see MySQL always selects the field1 index and then makes a join using the other two fields which is quite bad because it needs to join 146.000 rows. Suggestions on how to improve this? Thanks

  • Z-index broken in IE8?

    - by Anna
    Hi there This code works in every other browser I've tried, except IE8. IE8 appears to ignore the z-index - and the pop-up becomes a pop-under. It's in the right place, just renders underneath the thumbnail. Anyone? Thanks! HTML: <a class="thumbnail" href="#thumb"> <img src="/images/comic_a3_thumb.jpg" height="300" width="212" border="0" style="float:right; margin-top:10px;margin-bottom:10px;" alt="description" /> <span> <img src="/images/comic_a3_popup.jpg" /> /span> </a> CSS: .thumbnail{ position: relative; z-index: 0; } .thumbnail:hover{ background-color: transparent; z-index: 50; } .thumbnail span{ /*CSS for enlarged image*/ position: absolute; background-color: lightyellow; padding: 5px; left: 0px; border: 1px dashed gray; visibility: hidden; color: black; text-decoration: none; } .thumbnail span img{ /*CSS for enlarged image*/ border-width: 0; padding: 2px; } .thumbnail:hover span{ /*CSS for enlarged image on hover*/ visibility: visible; top: -140px; /*position where enlarged image should offset horizontally */ left: -500px; }
