  Hello, I am connecting to ADS through ODBC DSN. Everything works well until I tried out my Save Routine. Data is saved quite alright but I get an error that says - "Option value changed". What could this be? Can't find in the help file. The full error message is: ODBC - 2169 [iAnywhere Solutions][Advantage ODBC Driver] Option Value Changed. I sent an email in respect of this to [email protected] since this error number falls between error numbers: 2168 - 2188 Internal Error that should be reported.   I have just installed XP Mode on our Windows 7 Computer. I need XP Mode because we have a legacy accounting program that doesn't run in Windows 7. The problem we are having is that when I run the accounting program in XP Mode it starts but then reports a connection problem. I understand that is a problem with the ODBC connection. I there any way that I can correct this? I will really appreciate you help....

• Connect rails application to SQL Server 2005 from Windows

  Hi guys. I (sadly) have to deploy a rails application on Windows XP which has to connect to Microsoft SQL Server 2005. Surfing in the web there are a lot of hits for connect from Linux to SQL Server, but cannot find out how to do it from Windows. Basically I followed these steps: Install dbi gem Install activerecord-sql-server-adapter gem My database.yml now looks like this: development: adapter: sqlserver mode: odbc dsn: test_dj host: HOSTNAME\SQLEXPRESS database: test_dj username: guest password: guest But I'm unable to connect it. When I run rake db:migrate I get IM002 (0) [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified I'm not a Windows user, so cannot understand really well the meaning of dsn element or so. Does someone have an idea how to solve this? • Is it possible to read to a Paradox 7.x .db file in a .Net app?

  I'm trying to read a Paradox 7.x .db file in a .Net 3.5 app and I'm not being successful on that. First of all, when I'm registering the odbc, as a user or system dsn, the Microsoft Paradox ODBC Driver only display versions up to 5.x, so it looks like that it does not support Paradox version 7.x. At connectionsstrings.com I've found the connection string that is supposed to work with Paradox 7.x: Provider=MSDASQL;Persist Security Info=False;Mode=Read; Extended Properties='DSN=Paradox;DBQ=C:\mydbfolder; DefaultDir=C:\mydbfolder;DriverId=538;FIL=Paradox 7.X;MaxBufferSize=2048; PageTimeout=600;';Initial Catalog=C:\mydbfolder But when I try to test the connection using a Data Adapter I get the following exception: "ERROR [IM002] [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified" I have specified the ODBC as a user DSN and as a System DSN as well but kept receiving the same error. • Why won't my code segfault on Windows 7?

  This is an unusual question to ask but here goes: In my code, I accidentally dereference NULL somewhere. But instead of the application crashing with a segfault, it seems to stop execution of the current function and just return control back to the UI. This makes debugging difficult because I would normally like to be alerted to the crash so I can attach a debugger. What could be causing this? Specifically, my code is an ODBC Driver (ie. a DLL). My test application is ODBC Test (odbct32w.exe) which allows me to explicitly call the ODBC API functions in my DLL. When I call one of the functions which has a known segfault, instead of crashing the application, ODBC Test simply returns control to the UI without printing the result of the function call. I can then call any function in my driver again. I do know that technically the application calls the ODBC driver manager which loads and calls the functions in my driver. But that is beside the point as my segfault (or whatever is happening) causes the driver manager function to not return either (as evidenced by the application not printing a result). One of my co-workers with a similar machine experiences this same problem while another does not but we have not been able to determine any specific differences.

• Lotus NotesSQL Driver - cannot install

  Hi all, I need to install Lotus NotesSQL Driver (current version is 8.5) onto a virtual machine running XP. Here's what's I've done so far: I retrieved the file (CZOWFEN.zip) from the IBM website. I ran the exe. I then went to My Computer-Properties-Advanced-Environmental Settings-System Variables-Path and added "; c:\notessql" so the ODBC administrator could find Notes.ini (why the setup file didn't do this in the first place, i don't know). I opened up the ODBC administrator and tried to add a new System DSN to a Lotus DB. "The setup routines for the Lotus Notes SQL Driver (*.nsf) ODBC driver could not be loaded due to system error code 126" I redownloaded and reinstalled the driver (making sure I had the latest version 8.5). No luck. I checked the registry. All the file paths appeared to be correct. Per many, many similar cases on the internet, I tried several different variations of adding the various Lotus Notes folders to my PATH variables. Same error. I've done this setup on 5 different machines now with no problem. The only difference here is that this machine is virtual. Ideas?

• psqlODBC won't load after installing MS SQL ODBC driver on RHEL 6

  I had the PostgreSQL drivers working on my RHEL 6. But after I installed Microsoft® SQL Server® ODBC Driver 1.0 for Linux I can no longer connect to PosgreSQL data sources. I can connect to SQL Server data sources fine. When I had this same issue a week ago I uninstalled MS SQL Server ODBC driver from Linux and it fixed the issue. I had to copy the psqlodbcw.so files from another machine to replenish the files. I don't want to do the same this time. I want both drivers to work on Linux. This time around the setup files got deleted: /usr/lib64/libodbcpsqlS.so. Replenishing it did not fix the issue. I kept getting the following error in spite of the file being present with rwx permisions: [root@localhost lib64]# isql -v STUDENT dsname pwd12345 [01000][unixODBC][Driver Manager]Can't open lib '/usr/lib64/psqlodbc.so' : file not found [ISQL]ERROR: Could not SQLConnect [root@localhost lib64]# Here is a printout of the file permissions: [root@localhost lib64]# ls -al p*.so lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 12 Dec 7 09:15 psqlodbc.so -> psqlodbcw.so -rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 519496 Dec 7 09:35 psqlodbcw.so and my odbcinst.ini file looks as follows: [PostgreSQL] Description=ODBC for PostgreSQL Driver=/usr/lib/psqlodbc.so Driver64=/usr/lib64/psqlodbc.so Setup=/usr/lib/libodbcpsqlS.so Setup64=/usr/lib64/libodbcpsqlS.so FileUsage=1 UsageCount=4 I also referred to this link: http://mailman.unixodbc.org/pipermail/unixodbc-support/2010-September.txt

• Light-weight, free, database query tool for Windows?

  My question is very similar to the one here except pertaining to a Windows tool. I am also referencing this table and what I found here with a Google search. However, I have no idea which tool would best meet my (very basic) purposes. I am currently using Excel with a basic ODBC connection string to query my database at work. However, Excel is pretty memory-heavy and a basic query tends to throw my computer into a 30 second stall-a-thon. Is there a free tool out there that is light-weight and can serve the same purpose when provided an ODBC connection and a SQL query? Also would prefer that it easily copies over to a spreadsheet as needed.

  27" iMac running win7 under bootcamp (slick! ). I have Access 2003 program with files linked through ODBC used by 4 installations (all with Access 2003 installed). I want to buy Access 2010 and try it under virtual PC (under Bootcamp). Will it work (since I have to install the ODBC drivers)? If I decide after this trial that I like what it does, can I then install it under the Windows 7 bootcamp partition (with or without uninstalling the virtual PC) without using up the 2nd allowed installation? Also, I see that MS allows an Office Pro 2010 trial download good for 60 days. Would this work in Windows 7 Virtual PC and would it be a better way to go, followed by a legitimate purchase of Access 2010 for the Windows 7? This is not an Access programming question--I realize there may be some tweaks necessary in the program to run it under 2010 and I can handle that part.

• How to deal with MySQL Connector/ODBC error "Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock'"

  I am sure many users run into a mysterious problem when perfectly working ODBC configurations started failing with errors like: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' The above error message might be preceded with something like [nxDc[yQ]. At the same time odbc.ini specifies in its DSN different SOCKET=/tmp/mysql.sock or a TCP connection SERVER=<remote_host_or_ip>. The question is, what had happened that the ODBC driver started to ignore the DSN options? The clue lies in the corrupted string [nxDc[yQ], which actually was [UnixODBC][MySQL] with each 2nd symbol removed. This is the case of bad conversion from SQLCHAR to SQLWCHAR. The UnixODBC driver manager took a single-byte character string from the client application and tried to convert it into the wide (multi-byte) characters for the Unicode version of MyODBC driver: Initially the piece of the connection string was represented by 1-byte chars like: [S][E][R][V][E][R][=][m][y][h][o][s][t][;] after the bad conversion to wide chars (commonly 2-byte UTF-16) [SE][RV][ER][=m][yh][os][t;] instead of [S\0][E\0][R\0][V\0][E\0][R\0][=\0][m\0][y\0][h\0][o\0][s\0][t\0][;\0] Naturally, the MyODBC driver could not parse the bad string and tried to use the default connection type (SOCKET) with the default value (/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock) Now we know what happened, but why it happened? In most cases it happened because of using ODBCManageDataSourcesQ4 utility or its older analog ODBCConfig. When registering ODBC drivers they put lots of additional options and one of these options badly affects the UnixODBC driver manager itself. The solution is simple - remove or comment out the option in odbcinst.ini file (it is empty by default) set for the driver: [MySQL ODBC 5.2.6 Driver] Description    = Driver         = /home/dbs/myodbc526/lib/libmyodbc5w.so Driver64       = /home/dbs/myodbc526/lib/libmyodbc5w.so Setup          = /home/dbs/myodbc526/lib/libmyodbc5S.so Setup64        = /home/dbs/myodbc526/lib/libmyodbc5S.so UsageCount     = 1 CPTimeout      = 0 CPTimeToLive   = 0 IconvEncoding  =  # <--------- remove this line Trace          = TraceFile      = TraceLibrary   = After applying this simple solution (remove the line with IconvEncoding = ) everything came to normal. Prior to removing that line I tried putting different encoding names there, but the result was not good, so I really don't know how to properly use it. Unfortunately, UnixODBC manuals say nothing about it. Therefore, removing this option was the only way to get things done.

  Hi! I have a OdbcDataReader that gets data from a database and returns a set of records. The code that executes the query looks as follows: OdbcDataReader reader = command.ExecuteReader(); while (reader.Read()) { yield return reader.AsMovexProduct(); } The method returns an IEnumerable of a custom type (MovexProduct). I should also mention that I get the same exception if I change the if-statemnt to this: if (record.GetString(4) != null). What does work is encapsulating the property-assignment in a try {} catch (NullReferenceException) {} block - but that can lead to performance-loss (can it not?). I am running the x64 version of Visual Studio and I'm using a 64-bit odbc driver. Has anyone else come across this? Any suggestions as to how I could solve / get around this issue? Many thanks!

  Ok, I've been trying to get this to work like all day now and I'm barely any further from when I started. I'm trying to get Ruby On Rails to connect to SQL Server. I've installed unixODBC and configured it and FreeTDS and installed just about every Ruby gem relating to ODBC that exists. • Upgraded activerecord-sqlserver-adapter from 2.2.22 to 2.3.8 and now getting an ODBC error

  I have been using MSSQL 2005 with Rails for quite a while now, and decided to bump my gems up on one of my projects and ran into a problem. I moved from 2.2.22 to 2.3.8 (latest as of writing) and all of a sudden I got this: ODBC::Error: S1090 (0) [unixODBC][Driver Manager]Invalid string or buffer length I'm using a DSN connection with FreeTDS my database.yml looks like this: adapter: sqlserver mode: ODBC dsn: 'DRIVER=FreeTDS;TDSVER=7.0;SERVER=10.0.0.5;DATABASE=db;Port=1433;UID=user;PWD=pwd;' Now in the mean time I moved back to 2.2.22 and there are no deprecation warnings and everything seems fine but obviously for the sake of being up to date, any ideas what could have changed in the adaptor that could cause this?

• unable to connect to database on a networked drive

  Hi, I'm trying to connect to an access database from a php script using ODBC. When I put the db on my local c: drive create a system DSN i can connect no problem, but when it's on the networked drive I get the error: Warning: odbc_connect() [function.odbc-connect]: SQL error: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] '(unknown)' is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides., SQL state S1009 in SQLConnect in C:\wamp\www\suppliers\furniture.php on line 3 Ok so I'm guessing it's permissions somewhere anyone know specifically what/where? It works fine connecting the first time on one connection but if I close that connection and open a new one in the same script it gives me an error. test.vbs(13, 1) Microsoft Office Access Database Engine: ODBC--connection to '{Oracle in OraClient10g_home1}DB_NAME' failed. This is some code that triggers the error. TABLE_1 is an ODBC linked table in the test.mdb file.   When I am trying to connect to a MySQL database from a remote computer I get a prompt saying: Connection Failed: [HY000] [MySQL][ODBC 5.1 Driver]Can't Connect to MySQL server on 'XXX.XXX.XX.XX' (10060) I have created a user account in the MySQL Administrator and added a host to enable remote access, I have also made an exception for my Windows Firewall on port 3306 but the connection still fails.   I'm using Python to read and write SAS datasets, using pyodbc and the SAS ODBC drivers. I can load the data perfectly well, but when I save the data, using something like: cursor.execute('insert into dataset.test VALUES (?)', u'testing') ... I get a pyodbc.Error: ('HY004', '[HY004] [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] SQL data type out of range (0) (SQLBindParameter)') error. The problem seems to be the fact I'm passing a unicode string; what do I need to do to handle this?

  I have written a little ETL application that I wish to run a few lines of TSQL from. If i enter a simple query like "SELECT * FROM MyTable" everything is fine. All single line commands run as expected. A multiline query like this is also fine: DECLARE @TableName NVARCHAR(MAX) set @TableName = 'MyTable' EXECute ( 'DROP TABLE '+ @TableName ) Howevery when I try and run: DECLARE @TableName NVARCHAR(MAX) OPEN Tables FETCH NEXT FROM Tables INTO @TableName WHILE @@FETCH_STATUS = 0 BEGIN EXEC( 'DROP TABLE ' + @TableName ) FETCH NEXT FROM Tables INTO @TableName END I get a syntax error after TABLE in the EXEC() call. I have spent 6 hours trying to figure this out thinking perhaps I need to escape the single quote or something. I just cannot see the problem. A set of fresh eyes would be appreciated.
