  • How do I prevent the Sleep button from locking the screen

    My keyboard has a Sleep button. I defined a shortcut in System Settings, Keyboard Shortcuts own settings (or similar), so that the Sleep buttons runs a script. That works. But since my upgrade to Oneiric, something also locks the screen (in the same way the screen is locked when I press Ctrl+Alt+L). Can I disable that behaviour? What's the name of that lock screen? I tried hiding gnome-screensaver and /etc/acpi/ and I looked in gconf-editor /apps/gnome-power-manager/buttons. I didn't find anything related in dconf-editor.

    On Linux (Gnome desktop) how do you prevent one of the partitions on an external USB drive auto-mounting when it attached to the machine? I don't just want to prevent the Nautilus window from popping up -- I want that partition not to mount. Fiddling with /etc/fstab is not acceptable, as this is a removable drive that is attached to different machines. I seem to remember that you create a hidden file in the root of the file system, but I can't remember what it's called. Something like: touch /media/usbdisk/.no-mount How do you actually make this work?

    We have a 2012 domain controller in an environment where we are running a web proxy auto discovery (WPAD) setup for client devices, and that proxy server requires authentication. However windows update does not support proxy servers requiring authentication. So we want to prevent windows update on our servers from using the WPAD proxy settings. On a domain member server we can log in to the local administrator account (not domain admin) and un-tick the the "Auto detect proxy settings" in IE internet options and that fixes the issue on those servers. But a domain controller does not have a local admin account, as that account is the domain admin account. Doing this to the domain admin account on the DC does not prevent it from using WPAD. Our whole purpose of running a proxy server that requires authentication is so we can identify what the users on our session based remote desktop servers are doing on the internet.   • Ask a DNS server what sites it hosts - and how to possibly prevent misuse

    I've got a server which I host my company website as well as some of my clients. I noticed a domain which I created, but never used, was being attacked by a poke and hope hacker. I imagine that the hacker collected the domain from either hitting my DNS server and requesting what domains are hosted. So, in the interest of prevention and better server management, how would I ask my own DNS server (Linux CentOS 4) what sites are being hosted on it? Also, is there a way to prevent these types of attacks by hiding this information? I would assume that DNS servers would need to keep some information public, but I'm not sure if there is something that most hosts do to help prevent these bandwidth wasting poke and hope attacks.     OK, this is a similar question to this. Actually I am trying to prevent people from multiple login into one single computer and use my application simultaneously. This is because I want to stop them from buying one license, install it on a machine, and use certain remote desktop technologies to do multiple user login. I want to prevent them from violating the license agreement. Is there anyway that I can do in my application for this? Or is multiple login simultaneously is simply not possible?

    a week ago we experienced a really sweet problem at a client of ours. They are a school with around 1200 users, and everyone of them has auto forwarding for all mail activated. We use Exchange 2010 Now a few of the users where able to make NDR loops by adding 2 different, wrong, destinations. We had around 80k mails sent within a few hours. Not very practical. My question is, does anyone know a good way to prevent something like this. I have found 2 ways, which both fail for their own reasons We could manage the auto forwarding on the exchange host itself, which should prevent this looping problem someone said. But 1200 Users, not on my watch. There is a Powershell script out in the wild which should work against that, but my employers want something more "professional" Thank you very much for your support Linus

    When I download a PDF or image in Google Chrome on my Mac, is it possible to prevent Chrome from automatically opening it in my default application for that file type (e.g., Preview)? I notice that Chrome does not do this for other downloaded files such as audio and ZIP archives. I still want to be able to preview files in Chrome; I just want to prevent it from automatically launching my image/PDF viewer application after I download them. For example: I click on a link in an email to a PDF document or an image file. Chrome displays the contents in the browser. I press Cmd-S and save the file to my computer. When the download finishes, the file opens automatically in Preview.app. It's that last step that I would like to bypass.

  • How can I prevent Apache from asking for credentials on non SSL site

    I have a web server with several virtual hosts. Some of those hosts have an associated ssl site. I have a DirectoryMatch directive in my main config file which requires basic authentication to any directory with secured as part of the directory path. On sites that have an SSL site, I have a rewrite rule (located in the non ssl config for that site), that redirects to the SSL site, same uri. The problem is the http (80) site asks for credentials first, and then the https (443) site asks for credentials again. I would like to prevent the http site from asking and thus avoid the potential for someone entering credentials and having them sent in clear text. I know I could move the DirectoryMatch down to the specific site, and just put the auth statement in the SSL config, but that would introduce the possibility of forgetting to protect critical directories when creating new sites. Here are the pertinent declarations: httpd.conf (all sites): <DirectoryMatch "_secured_"> AuthType Basic AuthName "+ + + Restrcted Area on Server + + +" AuthUserFile /home/websvr/.auth/std.auth Require valid-user </DirectoryMatch> site.conf (specific to individual site) <DirectoryMatch "_secured_"> RewriteEngine On RewriteRule .*(_secured_.*) https://site.com/$1 </DirectoryMatch> Is there a way to leave DirectoryMatch in the main config file and prevent the request for authorization from the http site?     Hello, I am working on editors created with GMF and struggling with OCL right now. Is there a possibilty to prevent a node to be created if an OCL statement in the mapping evaluates to false? If tried adding an OCL statement to a node and all it does is making the node not visible in the editor, but it is created. There is also an OCL statement in the ecore file, but this way it is only evaluated when there should be something done with the created model.     Ok, in this question I learned how to prevent the insert of a NULL value. But, unfortunately, an empty string is being inserted anyway. Apart from preventing this on the PHP side, I'd like to use something like a database constraint to prevent this. Of course a check on the application side is necessary, but I'd like it to be on both sides. I am taught that whatever application is talking to your database, it should not be able to insert basically wrong data in it. So... CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS tblFoo ( foo_id int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, foo_test varchar(50) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (foo_id) ); Would still allow me to do this insert: INSERT INTO tblFoo (foo_test) VALUES (''); Which I would like to prevent.

    When you are browsing a network share and there are over 1000 folders in the root (like at work), is there a way to prevent Explorer from expanding all the Folders when you have the "Folders" view enabled? Explorer will open the folder your double clicked on, and show that in the right navigation pane, and it's great, but wait about five seconds and the rest of the folder list pops into view, I'd rather that not happen. There is only one folder I'm interested in (or have access to), and it's annoying waiting for Explorer to load the rest of the files.

    Hi, I have two partitions on a hard drive in my machine that are formatted as ntfs, but must under no circumstance be mounted by my Ubuntu installation (unless I do some preparation first). However nautilus happily displays the partitions, and a single click will mount them automatically. This is very dangerous behaviour, how can I hide the partitions from nautilus and prevent accidentally mounting them by a single stray mouse click? Thanks

Why would this server be the only server that is causing BIND to produce these logs? I've search around google and have found a few different solutions for hiding these logs, but I would like to know why this one server is so troublesome
