My problem is that I do not know how large those views are. Well, of course, I know their hard-coded values... But I want to be a good citizen and not use hard-coded values and instead query them. I know about project deploy, but it is no longer maintained.   • Windows: what is the difference between DEP always on and DEP opt-out with no exceptions?

    What is the difference between DEP always on ("/NoExecute=AlwaysOn" in boot.ini) and DEP opt-out ( "/NoExecute=OptOut" in boot.ini) with no exceptions? "no exceptions" = empty list of programs for which DEP does not apply. DEP = Data Execution Prevention (hardware). One would expect it to work the same way, but it makes a difference for some applications. E.g. for all versions of UltraEdit 14 (14.2). It crashes at startup for DEP always on, at least on Microsoft Windows XP Professional Edition x64 edition. (2010-03-11: this problem has been fixed with UltraEdit 15.2 and later.) Update 1: I think this difference is caused by the backdoors that Microsoft has put into hardware DEP for OptOut, according to Fabrice Roux (see below). In the case of IrfanView, for which Steve Gibson observed the same difference as I did for UltraEdit (see below), the difference is caused by a non-DEP aware EXE packer (ASPack) that Microsoft coded a backdoor for. Is there a difference between Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 ? Is there a difference between 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Windows ?     I am working on a web applicaton. And what we also create is something that could be described as inline editing. Just to portray thing I am trying to solve I use example of Facebook post. You have post like. Steve Jobs added 5 new photos Steve Jobs is link that redirects to his profile so in HTML, that would be: <div class="post-block"> <p><a href="stevejobs/" title="#">Steve Jobs</a> added 5 new photos.<p> </div> But what I want is the whole post "block" to be clickable although I want only that name to appear to be link. Normally in HTML logic would say to to this: <a href="stevejobs/" title="#"><div class="post-block"> <p><a href="stevejobs/" title="#">Steve Jobs</a> added 5 new photos.<p> </div></a> But this isn't semantically correct. Quick look to HTML 4.01 or any other standard says something like this: Links and anchors defined by the A element must not be nested; an A element must not contain any other A elements. How to create it semantically correct other than using javascript and defining div:hover state for the whole "div anchor"?

    Hello, I've been noticing this since Windows Vista. I see it on Windows 7, now, as well. In any case throughout the day I notice that my computer makes apparently random device-connect and/or device-disconnect ("boink") sounds. I suppose it is the same sound you hear when connecting or disconnecting a USB device such as a thumb drive. I've noticed that this happens on each of three computers I work with at home, my wife's computer, and my machine at work. It happens without any user action at all - i.e. I'll be just sitting there (hands off my mouse and keyboard), and the computer will make the sound. There is no visual queue or anything. Just the sound. I have sometimes gone in pursuit of the sound - running virus scans, examining event logs and such, and observing task manager - but have never had any luck tracking this thing down, but have not had any luck. Surely someone else out there must be experiencing this, too. Any ideas? Thanks, Steve

  • Burners freezing the PC when starting lead write in

    hi guys ,am having trouble with new pioneer dvdr-219l dual layer burners ,have replaced old burners with these dual layer ones . they are sata attached ,have tried img burn, xbox360 cookie burner, dvd decrypter, dvd flick , the burners seem ok burning cd and normal dvds but when trying to burn an iso to dual layer they will both freeze at the lead in write , the pc freezes including alt/delete mouse etc so have to re-boot,have tried uninstalling all burning programs that i have to eliminate conflicts and re-installing 1 at a time to see if that was the problem , still no solution am starting to think that maybe i have a bad sata cable the pc and burners dont seem to talk to each other when trying to burn dual layer ,any suggestions ???? this problem is giving me the shits ,ran microsofts fix it program and it said i had no burners installed that were capable of burning , i have had a look at device manager and the burners are there and when trouble shooted it says they are working ok , have noticed in device manager that the driver for these burners is from B.H.A.corporation file version 8.0.0.5. copyright 2000-2006 and they are not digitally sighned these burners are the latest models so how com the drivers are so old ...help please . steve

  • MySQL (local) owner and permissions

    I asked this question on the MySQL forums and got no answer. I asked on StackOverflow and received a recommendation to try on ServerFault. So here I am. I recently successfully installed the 64 bit version of mysql-5.5.8 on a MacBook Pro in the /usr/local directory. To address a completely unrelated software (RVM actually) , I chown-ed my /usr/local directory to $USER, Which made MySQL very unhappy. It complained specifically about the /usr/local/mysql/data directory, so I chown-ed that directory to _mysql:wheel. Everything appears to work again, but it made me wonder if I would have been better off changing the owner of the whole /usr/local/mysql directory, not just the data subdirectory. Since I neglected to make notes of what owner the default installation runs under before rashly changing the owner of the /usr/local directory, could someone tell me what owner and permissions the /usr/local/mysql directory is by default if you don't inadvertently screw it up? :-/ In terms of permissions I'm guessing rwxr-xr-x would be appropriate (that's what the data directory currently has and it appears to be working fine), but reinforcement for that hunch would be appreciated.   • Select row After UIPickerView is loaded

    I have an iphone database app that loads a UIPickerView with data from a table. I want to set the selected row to a particular row from the data in another table. for example: Lets say I have a UIPickerView that is loaded with X number of names of the iPhone users friends (the number of names is variable, could be 1 or 1000 and all are entered into the DB by the user). The iPhone user has a preference set that their current best friend is TED. I want the UIPickerView to be position to TED when displayed. Where do I call selectRow? I tried in viewDidAppear but it was never called, in titleForRow which caused all kinds of strange behavior. viewDidLoad and viewWillAppear are out of the question because I don't know what's in the datasource to the picker yet.   • Setting TreeView.DataContext doesn't refresh the tree

    I have a List that I've bound to a TreeView. Setting TreeView.DataContext works - everything displays correctly. I then change the list (add an item to it) and set TreeView.DataContext again (to the same value) but the tree does not refresh with the new items. How do I get the treeview to refresh? This is basically my code: public class xItemCollection : ObservableCollection<xItem> { } public class xItem : INotifyPropertyChanged { xItemCollection _Items; public xItem() { _Items = new xItemCollection(); } public xItemCollection Items {get{return _Items;}} } ... this.RootItem = new xItem(); treeView.DataContext = this; Adding items to the list works until the tree is rendered for the first time. After it is rendered, adding/removing items does not refresh the tree.

  • How to create database records for a financial year

    Hello, I need to create entities (specifically contracts) in a database table that are associated with a financial year. These contracts will be applied to projects. Any contract variation will be recorded by creating a new contract record for the same financial year but the original will remain associated with the project as a history. The projects can last several years and so at any one time a project will have a live contract record for each year as well as any number of historic contracts for that year. All of which is incidental but I'm trying to provide some context. If the contracts where for the year - it would be easy and I'd just store the Year either as a date field with the 1st of January or just an Integer. However the contracts run for financial years and I don't know how to approach this. I don't want a separate table containing the financial years as I don't want the users to have to maintain this. I don't want to store the financial year as a string "2009/2010" as this is not ideal for sorting/extracting the data. Any ideas will be helpful, my best so far is to have starting and ending year in 2 columns and just "KNOW" that starting is April of the year etc Thanks

    I know of the non-standard %uxxxx scheme but that doesn't seem like a wise choice since the scheme has been rejected by the W3C. Some interesting examples: The heart character. If I type this into my browser: http://www.google.com/search?q=? Then copy and paste it, I see this URL http://www.google.com/search?q=%E2%99%A5 which makes it seem like Firefox (or Safari) is doing this. urllib.quote_plus(x.encode("latin-1")) '%E2%99%A5' which makes sense, except for things that can't be encoded in Latin-1, like the triple dot character. … If I type the URL http://www.google.com/search?q=… into my browser then copy and paste, I get http://www.google.com/search?q=%E2%80%A6 back. Which seems to be the result of doing urllib.quote_plus(x.encode("utf-8")) which makes sense since … can't be encoded with Latin-1. But then its not clear to me how the browser knows whether to decode with UTF-8 or Latin-1. Since this seems to be ambiguous: In [67]: u"…".encode('utf-8').decode('latin-1') Out[67]: u'\xc3\xa2\xc2\x80\xc2\xa6' works, so I don't know how the browser figures out whether to decode that with UTF-8 or Latin-1. What's the right thing to be doing with the special characters I need to deal with?
