  • Doing sum's if certain conditions are true

    I am trying to build a query that does a sum if a certain parameter is set. For example: SELECT SUM(IF(<condition>,field,field)) AS total_value ...which is working correctly. But i have more than one condition in IF(), like: SELECT SUM(IF(<condition> <condition>,field,field)) AS total_value ..which is not working, could you have any idea what should be the right query for this.

  • Excel SUM From Different Sheets IF Date Found

    I have a workbook with separate sheets for each product (about 20 sheets, adding more on a regular basis). Each product is only available for a certain time frame, and has daily sales data recorded on that product's sheet. I want an overall snapshot across all products from any given date to be consolidated on a new sheet. This would sum from a particular column on each of the other sheets if a corresponding date exists. I have a moderately passable function right now that has a separate VLOOKUP for each product sheet like SUM(IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(DATECELL,SHEETNAME!ARRAY,COLUMN... next VLOOKUP, next VLOOKUP etc., but it's incredibly cumbersome to update each function when a new product is added. I'm thinking there's a much easier way utilizing a named group (sheet names), SUMIF, VLOOKUP etc. Then when a new product sheet is added, I can simply add the sheet name to the named group rather than editing all the functions. Any help would be much appreciated!

  • Five unique, random numbers from a subset

    I know similar questions come up a lot and there's probably no definitive answer, but I want to generate five unique random numbers from a subset of numbers that is potentially infinite (maybe 0-20, or 0-1,000,000). The only catch is that I don't want to have to run while loops or fill an array. My current method is to simply generate five random numbers from a subset minus the last five numbers. If any of the numbers match each other, then they go to their respective place at the end of the subset. So if the fourth number matches any other number, it will bet set to the 4th from the last number. Does anyone have a method that is "random enough" and doesn't involve costly loops or arrays? Please keep in mind this a curiosity, not some mission-critical problem. I would appreciate it if everyone didn't post "why are you having this problem?" answers. I am just looking for ideas.   • GROUP BY and SUM distinct date across 2 tables

    I'm not sure if this is possible in one mysql query so I might just combine the results via php. I have 2 tables: 'users' and 'billing' I'm trying to group summed activity for every date that is available in these two tables. 'users' is not historical data but 'billing' contains a record for each transaction. In this example I am showing a user's status which I'd like to sum for created date and deposit amounts that I would also like to sum by created date. I realize there is a bit of a disconnect between the data but I'd like to some all of it together and display it as seen below. This will show me an overview of all of the users by when they were created and what the current statuses are next to total transactions. I've tried UNION as well as LEFT JOIN but I can't seem to get either to work. Union example is pretty close but doesn't combine the dates into one row.     I am looking for an efficient way to determine if a set is a subset of another set in Matlab or Mathematica. Example: Set A = [1 2 3 4] Set B = [4 3] Set C = [3 4 1] Set D = [4 3 2 1] The output should be: Set A Sets B and C belong to set A because A contains all of their elements, therefore, they can be deleted (the order of elements in a set doesn't matter). Set D has the same elements as set A and since set A precedes set D, I would like to simply keep set A and delete set D. So there are two essential rules: 1. Delete a set if it is a subset of another set 2. Delete a set if its elements are the same as those of a preceding set My Matlab code is not very efficient at doing this - it mostly consists of nested loops. Suggestions are very welcome! Additional explanation: the issue is that with a large number of sets there will be a very large number of pairwise comparisons.

    I have an arraylist that holds a subset of names found in my database. I need to write a query to get a count of the people in the arraylist for certain sections i.e. There is a field "City" in my database from the people in the arraylist of names I want to know how many of them live in Chicago, how many live in New York etc. Can someone help me how I might set up an sql statement to handle this. I think somehow I have to pass the subset of names to sql somehow.

    Hi, We have a requirement where we need to group our records by a particular field and take the sum of a corresponding numeric field e.x. select userid, sum(click_count) from user_action group by userid; We are trying to do this using apache solr and found that there were 2 ways of doing this: Using the field collapsing feature (http://blog.jteam.nl/2009/10/20/result-grouping-field-collapsing-with-solr/) but found 2 problems with this: 1.1. This is not part of release and is available as patch so we are not sure if we can use this in production. 1.2. We do not get the sum back but individual counts and we need to sum it at the client side. Using the Stats Component along with faceted search (http://wiki.apache.org/solr/StatsComponent). This meets our requirement but it is not fast enough for very large data sets. I just wanted to know if anybody knows of any other way to achieve this. Appreciate any help. Thanks, Terance.

  • Fastest way to find sum of digits on big numbers

    I have some big numbers (again) and i need to find if the sum of the digits is an even number. I tried this: finding the sum of the digits with a while loop and then checking if that sum % 2 equals 0 and it's working but it's too slow for big numbers, because i am given intervals of numbers and if the input is 1999999 19999999999 then my program fails, i cannot complete within the time limit which is 0,1 sec. What to do ? Is there any other faster way to do this ? EDIT: The input 1999999 19999999999 means it will start with 1999999 and check all the numbers like i wrote above until 19999999999, and because we are talking about big numbers (< 2^30) my program is not worthy.

  • sum of timespans

    I have a collection of objects that include a timespan variable: MyObject { TimeSpan TheDuration {get;set;} } I want to use linq to sum those times. Of course, (from r in MyCollection select r.TheDuration).Sum(); doesn't work! I'm thinking of changing the datatype of TheDuration to an int and then summing it and converting the sum to a TimeSpan. That'll be messy because each TheDuration in my collection is used in as a timespan somewhere else. Any suggestion on this summation?

  • R: Are there any alternatives to loops for subsetting from an optimization standpoint?

    A recurring analysis paradigm I encounter in my research is the need to subset based on all different group id values, performing statistical analysis on each group in turn, and putting the results in an output matrix for further processing/summarizing. How I typically do this in R is something like the following: data.mat <- read.csv("...") groupids <- unique(data.mat$ID) #Assume there are then 100 unique groups results <- matrix(rep("NA",300),ncol=3,nrow=100) for(i in 1:100) { tempmat <- subset(data.mat,ID==groupids[i]) #Run various stats on tempmat (correlations, regressions, etc), checking to #make sure this specific group doesn't have NAs in the variables I'm using #and assign results to x, y, and z, for example. results[i,1] <- x results[i,2] <- y results[i,3] <- z } This ends up working for me, but depending on the size of the data and the number of groups I'm working with, this can take up to three days. Besides branching out into parallel processing, is there any "trick" for making something like this run faster? For instance, converting the loops into something else (something like an apply with a function containing the stats I want to run inside the loop), or eliminating the need to actually assign the subset of data to a variable?
