  • Would you consider using training/mentoring from LearnersParadise.com?

    My initial question deserves some explanation. I signed up for an account at learnersparadise.com. After signing up I couldn't login so I opted to use their "send password" feature. Upon receiving my password in my email I confirmed two things A) They trimmed off 2 of the last digits of my 10-digit password without informing me and saved it that way in their database B) my password is not saved in their database using a one-way hash since they were able to email me my password. I'm quite certain that both of these are perfectly awful programming practices. I suspect that the mentors/trainers at learnersparadise are not necessarily affiliated with the website and it's design since they are basically people like you and me (hopefully more skill than me) who have signed up to become mentors. However, I'm still uncertain about signing up for training/mentoring at a site that uses such poor programming practices themselves? Would you let learnersparadise poor programming practices affect your opinion of their trainers/mentors?

  • Enumerating .NET assembly resources at runtime

    I have a resource assembly with image files in it that are built using Resource or Content build action. This makes these files accessible using the Uris. However I cannot find the way to enumerate such resources. If I set the build action to Embedded Resource it becomes possible to enumerate the files with the following code: string[] resources = Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetManifestResourceNames(); but it in turn makes these files inaccessible using Uris. The question is - how to enumerate resources that are compiled with either Resource or Content build action? NOTE: As Thomas Levesque pointed out it is possible to enumerate such resources by leveraging the AssemblyAssociatedContentFileAttribute, but it seems to only work for WPF Application assemblies and not for class library ones. So the question is still open.

  • WPF resource merged to Application.Resources but not resolved at runtime

    I have a brush that is part of a ResourceDictionary that is merged to Application.Resources. But for some reason it's not resolved at runtime when a style is being applied to one of the controls. However, if I call Application.Current.FindResource("BrushName") from the Immediate Window at the time when exception is thrown, the resource is found. Am I missing something? Isn't WPF supposed to try to look for the resource in the app's resources? UPDATE The application is quite big, so I can't post all actual code but here's the way the resources are merged and used: Brushes.xaml <ResourceDictionary ...> <SolidColorBrush x:Key="BrushName" Color="#12345678" /> <\ResourceDictionary> SomeStyles.xaml <ResourceDictionary ...> <Style x:Key="SomeStyle"> <Setter Property="SomeProperty" Value="{StaticResource BrushName}" /> </Style> </ResourceDictionary> App.xaml <Application ...> <Application.Resources> <ResourceDictionary> <ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries> <ResourceDictionary Source="Brushes.xaml" /> <ResourceDictionary Source="SomeStyles.xaml" /> </ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries> </ResourceDictionary> </Application.Resources> </Application ...> And then some control might use the style using the resource like this: ...   • Rails "NoMethodError" with sub-resources

I'm a newbie Rails developer who is getting the following error when trying to access the 'new' action on my CityController: undefined method `cities_path' for #<#<Class:0x104608c18>:0x104606f08> Extracted source (around line #2): 1: <h1>New City</h1> 2: <%= form_for(@city) do |f| %> 3: <%= f.error_messages %> 4: 5: <div class="field"> As some background, I have a State model with many Cities. I'm getting this error after clicking on the following link coming from a State show page: <p>Add a city: <%= link_to "Add city", new_state_city_path(@state) %></p> When I run 'rake:routes' it says this is a legit route... For more background, here is the CityController 'new' action: def new @city = City.new respond_to do |format| format.html # new.html.erb format.xml { render :xml => @city } end end Here is the (complete) form in the view: <%= form_for(@city) do |f| %> <%= f.error_messages %> <div class="field"> <%= f.label :name %><br /> <%= f.text_field :name %> </div> <div class="actions"> <%= f.submit %> </div> <% end %> This initially made me think that it's a resources/routes issue since it came back with a mention of 'cities_path' (in fact, that's what another person posting to Stack Overflow had wrong (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/845315/rails-error-nomethoderror-my-first-ruby-app). However, that doesn't seem to be the case from what I can see. Here are how my resources look in my routes file: resources :states do resources :cities end I can get it working when they are not sub-resources, but I really need to keep them as sub-resources for my future plans with the app. Any help would be very much appreciated, since I've been racking my brains on this for more hours than I would care to admit... Thanks! (Not sure this matters at all, but I'm running the very latest version of Rails 3 beta2).

  • How to make technical training session useful and successful for trainee?

    Are these suggestions good to give for a successful training session? Practice time should be always given immediate after technical training? usually after receiving any technical session about any new thing we do routine work. If we don't do practice just after training, later when we do any work related to that training then we feel we need training again. So if we are getting training today and will not use it for some period of time (15 -30 -60 days) then the training is of no use, as it is at the wrong time. I.e. We will forget many things Any other suggestions which i should give? I'm trainee not trainer. What suggestion should i give to trainer/organizer?

  • Resources access problem from JAR

    I have the following directory structure of a project: Folder "project" in Eclipse: --folder "src" --folder "resources" ----trayicon2.png --folder "db" ----test.db --folder "bin" I'm accessing the image with: Image image = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage("resources/trayicon2.png"); and from Eclipse that is not a problem. Then I generate an "executable jar file", and add the dirs, making a directory structure of: Folder "project" --folder "db" ----test.db --folder "resources" ----trayicon2.png --project.jar And now the image is no more accessible. Also, the database is no more accessible; while in Eclipse I used to access it with: Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:sqlite:db/test.db"); How can I access the resources (images and db) after generating the jar file "project.jar"?

  • asp.net global resources problem

    Hello. I have a weird problem with global resources in my asp.net mvc web application. I have some resources in separate project(not a web app project). Those resources have following settings: Build action: Embedded Resource, Copy To Output Directory: Do not copy, Custom Tool: ResXFileCodeGenerator. When I change an existing value in resource file, build solution in release mode and upload neccesary dll files back to server, the previous values in resources are still shown. However, when I add a new key into resource file, the value of this key is shown properly. I do not have this problem during debugging on localhost. Thanks

  • Displaying xaml resources dynamically?

    I used Mike Swanson's illustrator to xaml converter to convert some of my images to xaml. The convert creates a viewbox that contains the image. These viewboxes I made resource files in my program. The code below shows what I'm trying to do: I have a viewmodel that has an enum variable called PrimaryWinding of type Windings.
