• Stop Your Mouse from Waking Up Your Windows 7 Computer

  If you use Sleep Mode on your PC, have you ever noticed that moving your mouse will wake the computer from sleep mode? If you would prefer to only have the PC wake up when you hit a key instead, there’s a simple tweak. Just type Mouse into the start menu search box, or the Control Panel search box, and then open up the Mouse Properties panel. Find the Hardware tab, select your mouse in the list, and then click the Properties button. You’ll have to click the “Change settings” button before you can see the Power Management tab… And now, you can uncheck the box from “Allow this device to wake the computer”. • Page_BlockSubmit - reset it to False, if there is a scenario when page doesn't postback on validation error

  Recently, I was facing a problem where if there was a validation error, and if I changed the state of checkbox it won't postback on first attempt. But when I uncheck and check again , it postbacks on second attempt...this is some quirky behaviour in .ASP.Net platform. The solution was to reset Page_BlockSubmit flag to false and it works fine. The following explanation is from http://lionsden.co.il/codeden/?p=137&cpage=1#comment-143   Submit button on the page is a member of vgMain, so automatically it will only run the validation on that group. A solution is needed that will run validation on multiple groups and block the postback if needed. Solution Include the following function on the page: function DoValidation() { //validate the primary group var validated = Page_ClientValidate('vgPrimary ');   //if it is valid if (validated) { //valid the main group validated = Page_ClientValidate('vgMain'); }   //remove the flag to block the submit if it was raised Page_BlockSubmit = false;   //return the results return validated; } Call the above function from the submit button’s OnClientClick event. <asp:Button runat="server" ID="btnSubmit" CausesValidation="true" ValidationGroup="vgMain" Text="Next" OnClick="btnSubmit_Click" OnClientClick="return DoValidation();" /> What is Page_BlockSubmit When the user clicks on a button causing a full post back, after running Page_ClientValidate ASP.NET runs another built in function ValidatorCommonOnSubmit. Within Page_ClientValidate, Page_BlockSubmit is set based on the validation. The postback is then blocked in ValidatorCommonOnSubmit if Page_BlockSubmit is true. No matter what, at the end of the function Page_BlockSubmit is always reset back to false. If a page does a partial postback without running any validation and Page_BlockSubmit has not been reset to false, the partial postback will be blocked. In essence the above function, RunValidation, acts similar to ValidatorCommonOnSubmit. It runs the validation and then returns false to block the postback if needed. Since the built in postback is never run, we need to reset Page_BlockSubmit manually before returning the validation result.

• Sql Server Prevent Saving Changes That Require Table to be Re-created

  When working with SQL Server Management studio, if you use the Design view of a table and attempt to make a change that will require the table to be dropped and re-added, you may receive an error message like this one: Saving changes is not permitted.  The changes you have made require the following tables to be dropped and re-created.  You have either made changes to a table that cant be re-created or enabled the option Prevent saving changes that require the table to be re-created. In truth, its quite likely that you didnt enable such an option, despite the error dialogs accusations, as it is enabled by default when you install SQL Management Studio.  You can learn more about the issue in the KB article, Error message when you try to save a table in SQL Server 2008: Saving changes is not permitted. Warning: As the above article states, it is not recommended that you turn off this option (at least not permanently), as it will ensure that you do not accidentally change the schema of a table such that data is lost.  Do so at your peril. The simplest way to bypass this error is to go into Option Designers and uncheck the option Prevent saving changes that require table re-creation.  See the screenshot below. The main reason why you will see this error is if you attempted to do any of the following to the table whose design you are saving: Change the Allow Nulls setting for a column Reorder columns Change any columns data type Add a new column The recommended workaround is to script out the changes to a SQL file and execute them by hand, or to simply write out your own T-SQL to make the changes. • Dock with dual external DVI monitors with Intel + Nvidia Optimus?

  I have a Dell Latitude E6420 laptop plugged into a docking station, and the dock has 2 monitors (connected with DVI). Also note that I've installed Ubuntu alongside (dual-boot) Windows 7. I can't get the dual monitors to work both on Ubuntu (either 11.10 or 12.04) and Windows 7. When I run lspci | grep VGA, I get: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GF108 [Quadro NVS 4200M] (rev a1) If I then reboot and uncheck Optimus setting in the BIOS during reboot, I'm able to get the dual monitors to work in Ubuntu 12.04 (but I need to configure them every boot in Nvidia Settings). When I run lspci | grep VGA, I get: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF119 [Quadro NVS 4200M] (rev a1) But then if I reboot into Windows (leaving the Optimus unchecked), Windows can't detect external monitors, and the resolution is unacceptably low. I've seen on many forum posts that this particular graphics card setup causes lots of headaches. I haven't been able to resolve my problem yet. How can I use my external display on my laptop with intel and nvidia video cards? How to use external displays with Intel driver on a NVidia/Intel hybrid system nVidia Optimus , Unity 3D and Dual Monitors "Just use VGA instead of DVI" isn't an option because my dock has only 1 VGA port (and 2 DVI). Switching the BIOS setting on every reboot and then reconfiguring the display settings every time is tedious, time-consuming, and impractical. Do you know how to make this work smoothly?   Color identifiers make it easier for developers to quickly read and understand the code on screen.  One of the many features provided by JustCode is the ability to colorize additional items that Visual Studio does not allow you to colorize by default.  The colorization of items such as methods, properties, events, variables, and method parameters can easily be tweaked to your specific needs. • Unity throws SynchronizationLockException while debugging

  I've found Unity to be a great resource for writing unit-testable code, and tests targeting it. Sadly, not all those unit tests work perfectly the first time (TDD notwithstanding), and sometimes it's not even immediately apparent why they're failing. So I use Visual Studio's debugger. I then see SynchronizationLockExceptions thrown by Unity calls, when I never did while running the code without debugging. I hit F5 to continue past these distractions, the line that had the exception appears to have completed normally, and I continue on to what I was trying to debug in the first place.In settings where Unity isn't used extensively, this is just one amongst a handful of annoyances in a tool (Visual Studio) that overall makes my work life much, much easier and more enjoyable. But in larger projects, it can be maddening. Finally it bugged me enough where it was worth researching it.Amongst the first and most helpful Google results was, of course, at Stack Overflow. The first couple answers were extensive but seemed a bit more involved than I could pull off at this stage in the product's lifecycle. A bit more digging showed that the Microsoft team knows about this bug but hasn't prioritized it into any released build yet. SO users jaster and alex-g proposed workarounds that relieved my pain--just go to Debug|Exceptions..., find the SynchronizationLockException, and uncheck it. As others warned, this will skip over SynchronizationLockExceptions in your code that you want to catch, but that wasn't a concern for me in this case. Thanks, guys; I've used that dialog before, but it's been so long I'd forgotten about it.Now if I could just do the same for Microsoft.CSharp.RuntimeBinder.RuntimeBinderException... Until then, F5 it is.

• Dell Mini 9 Integrated Microphone -- not working

  Im running the latest Debian version, 6.0 on my Dell Mini 9.Webcam and sound work, but microphone is a no-go. I hope even though it is Debian, fellow Linux users can help. In Alsamixer (1.0.23), I have Capture, Digital, and Mic settings all the way up. There are no options for adjusting "Front" mic settings. (May have been for older alsamixer versions?) In Sound Recorder, playback has loud noise/feedback? Under Preferences in Volume Control under the Recording tab, both Capture and Digital are permanently checked, regardless if I uncheck them. I'm not sure how to interpret the above, but I am just trying to offer as much relevant background information as I can. I've been scouring forums for the answer, but to no avail. Most questions/answers are from 2008, and couldn't find a solution. I'm not very handy with the Linux machine, but love to learn / am learning. Also, I've attempted the solution here, and it didn't work. Thanks, in advance, for your help!

• double-click does not open the default program

  I installed Ubuntu 12.04, with texlive-full and texworks. When I double-click a .tex file in Nautilus, it pops up a Do you want to run "xxxxxxxx.tex", or display it contents? "xxxxxxxx.tex" is an executable text file. Run in Terminal Display Cancel Run If I choose Display, it opens texworks. How can I make it open without seeing the above conversation window? By the way, is .tex file indeed an executable file? ADDED Just for the case, my ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list file looks like the following: [Default Applications] text/html=google-chrome.desktop x-scheme-handler/http=google-chrome.desktop x-scheme-handler/https=google-chrome.desktop x-scheme-handler/about=google-chrome.desktop x-scheme-handler/unknown=google-chrome.desktop text/x-tex=texworks.desktop x-scheme-handler/mailto=google-chrome.desktop [Added Associations] text/x-tex=texworks.desktop; text/x-bibtex=jabref.desktop;gedit.desktop; I observe texworks are both up and down. Should I remove one? ADDED This does not happen with all .tex files. In fact, I am currently using Ubuntu 12.04 under Virtual Box with Windows 7 host. I have my Dropbox account synced with the Windows 7 host, and I access files in Dropbox in Ubuntu through Virtual Box's shared folder functionality. (I didn't install Dropbox client in Ubuntu.) Files in Dropbox are owned by root with group vboxsf. My personal account is in the group vboxsf. It seems that I have to uncheck the option for "executable", but I have all my .tex files in the Dropbox shared folder. Would there be any workaround?

  I can't install xojo. When I click install in the software center it's not progressing. So i uncheck: Added by software-center; credentials stored in /etc/apt/auth.conf https://private-ppa.launchpad.net/commercial-ppa-uploaders/xojo/ubuntu GPG error was gone. But then again I found myself at the beginning of the problem.STUCK at '0% [Working]'. 'Xojo' is the only application that I can't install.Any explanation why is it like that?

• Added resolution not working after upgrading to 12.04

  After upgrading, my screen resolution (added by xrandr comands on the start) did not work like before. Messages appear showing some errors (that i have never had in 11.10). "No se pudo aplicar la configuración almacenada para los monitores"/"Can't apply the stored configuration for the monitors." This script didn't work either. xrandr --newmode "1280x1024_60.00" 109.00 1280 1368 1496 1712 1024 1027 1034 1063 -hsync +vsync xrandr --addmode VGA1 1280x1024_60.00 xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 1280x1024_60.00 I also tryed deleting monitors.xml but, nothing. This only erase the window message. It's been sayd that ##It's a normal buggy and well know problem for Pc's with Intel integrated video cards.## The new version of gnome-settings-daemon stores its configuration information in dconf rather than gconf. I tryed something, but the problem persist. This is what i did. Install the dconf-tools package, and then run dconf-editor. In the tree on the left, navigate org - gnome - settings-daemon - plugins - xrandr. Uncheck the active checkbox. restart your XServer (Ctrl+Alt+Backspace) (It didn't worked out for me, but it may be helpful to someone)

• Outlook 2010 - HTML Images not downloaded - at all - by default

  Maybe it's just me but I found this "Security Feature" of Office 2010 a bit annyoing out of the box.  Outlook does not download any pictures by default for HTML emails.  Now this is nothing new, but what is different is that Outlook 2010 has added another layer of security around the pictures.  You now have the option to finely tune when things are downloaded.  The side affect is that nothing is downloaded at all.  And when I would click on "Download Images" on an email, it still would not show the images.  I found that I had to explicitly tell Outlook to download HTML images and then restart Windows.  It did not work if I simply restarted Office.  Again, maybe this was just me.  Here's what you need to do in Outlook 2010 to enable images for HTML: Click on the new "File" tab Click on "Options" Click on "Trust Center" Clicn on "Trust Center Settings" Uncheck the "Don't download pictures automatically in HTML e-mail messages or RSS items" check box Click the "Okay" button Exit Outlook 2010 Again, for me I had to restart Windows (Windows 7 64bit, Office 2010 64bit) to get this to "take affect".

Why? Because any file I create on or move to the partition is automatically marked as executable. The problem is that there is no way of changing that through nautilus. I cannot uncheck the "Allow executing file as program" option. The noexec option doesn't help, unfortunately. It only prevents nautilus from displaying the "run" or "read" dialog but doesn't change the executable flag. Is there any way I can fix this?

• Getting the PC speaker to beep

  There has been much written on getting the beep sound from Ubuntu releases over the years. Example: fixing the beep My needs are slightly different in that I do not want to ensure sound card beeps are functioning. Instead, I want PC speaker beeps, the kind produced by the original built-in speaker because I believe they will produce less CPU load. I have confirmed that my computer has the PC speaker by unplugging the external speakers and shutting down Ubuntu. At some point in the shutdown and restart process a beep is heard even though the external speakers have no power. I have tried the following: In /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf, turn these lines into comments: #blacklist snd_pcsp #blacklist pcspkr In .bashrc /usr/bin/xset b on /usr/bin/xset b 100 Enable in the gnome terminal: Edit Profile Prefs General Terminal Bell Ensure no "mute" selections in: System Prefs Sound various tabs (uncheck them all). Select "Enable window and button sounds" in: System Prefs Sound Sound Effects In gconf-editor desktop gnome sound, select the three sound check boxes. In gconf-editor apps metacity general select the audible bell check box. Still I get no PC speaker beeps when I send code 7 to the console via my Java program or use echo -e '\a' on the bash command line. What else should I try? Update Since my goal is to minimize load on the CPU, here is a comparison of elapsed times. Each test is for 100,000 iterations. Each variant was performed three times so three results are presented for each. printwriter.format("%c", 7); // 1.3 seconds, 1.5 seconds, 1.5 seconds Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().beep(); // 0.8 seconds, 0.3 seconds, 0.5 seconds try { Runtime.getRuntime().exec("beep"); } catch (IOException e) { } // 10.3 seconds, 16.3 seconds, 11.4 seconds These runs were done inside Eclipse so multiply by some value less than 1 for standalone execution. Unfortunately, Toolkit's beep is silent on my computer and so is code 7. The beep utility works but has the most cost.

• Ubuntu 12.04 Freezes w/ Ethernet Unplugged + Wireless Drops (Acer Aspire 5516)

  Ubuntu 12.04-12.10 32/64 freezes or won't boot if the Ethernet cable is unplugged and will not hold a wireless connection. Here is my scenario... Laptop: Acer Aspire 5516 Wireless card: Broadcom BCM4312 Ubuntu 12.04 32/64 Issues Unity 3d won't load without the Ethernet cable plugged in. If I let it load with Ethernet plugged in, it will freeze once I disconnect the cable. Unity 2d will load without the Ethernet cable plugged. In Unity 2d, wireless cannot hold a connection. I can connect to a Wireless network, but when I try to use it (i.e. open a browser), it disconnects. I can reconnect by disabling wireless (uncheck Enable Wireless), re-enable wireless, and reconnect. But, it will disconnect again once I start using it. Ubuntu 12.10 Issues Since 12.10 only gives me the option to load 3d (I assume), I experience the same thing as the first issue in 12.04. Attempted Solutions Enable networking/LAN in BIOS Set LAN first in boot priority in BIOS Remove STA wireless driver (bcmwl-kernel-source) and install b43 low power driver (firmware-b43-lpphy-installer). Remove default Network Manager and install Wicd. So far, I have had no luck with fixing this issue. Does anyone have any further suggestions?

• Usb stick too slow to benchmark?

  I have a Core 2 Duo [email protected] with 3GB RAM. After some time using XUbuntu 10.10 on an 8GB stick I decided to switch to 12.04 and put it onto a 32GB stick (Transcend). I use an EXT4 with no journalling, noatime etc set. /tmp and /run is using tmpfs. And it is REALLY slow. MUCH slower than the old Xubuntu on the 8GB stick. Starting takes minutes, all applications "fade" because they respond too slow. I first thought that the NVidia graphics card is responsible for this, because there seem to be some known problems with that. Doing the adjustment (uncheck the sync checkbox) did not help. I believe the root cause is that the access to the USB stick is extremely slow. Running the read benchmark of the disk utility then brought the message "disk is too slow to benchmark"! • How to Disable Touchpad tap in Toshiba Tecra R850 in Oneiric - it is recognized as a PS/2 mouse

  I know there's a lot of similar questions, but nothing I have tried here works yet - perhaps I was doing it wrong. New Laptop - Toshiba Tecra R850 with an install of Oneiric 64 bit. Mostly things are working well, but I have a problem with the touchpad (or whatever it's called) - whenever I use it for moving the mouse pointer I accidentally tap on it - basically I am clicking all over the place by accident. So I want to disable the tap-as-click (after all, I have buttons for clicks too). I open up "Mouse and Touchpad" and on the Touchpad tab I check "Disable touchpad when typing" and UNcheck "Enable mouse clicks with touchpad". This does not achieve anything. Ditto Synaptiks and other similar tools. EDIT OK it turns out that this is a somewhat known problem - it seems the touchpad is not being recognized as a touchpad, it is seen as a PS/2 mouse. So any adjustments made with various settings programs to the "touchpad" don't affect it. I've been looking at solutions for getting the touchpad correctly recognized and not achieved it yet - seems there is a problem at the kernel level...I tried (foolishly) a suggestion to replace the psmouse.ko driver ...this screwed some stuff up and didn't solve my problem. • Custom CheckBox in WPF DataGrid does not update binding

  In my Visual Studio 2010 WPF application, I have the following (simplified) style: <Style x:Key="MyStyle" TargetType="{x:Type CheckBox}"> <Setter Property="Background" Value="Blue" /> </Style> If I use it as the ElementStyle AND EditingElementStyle in my DataGridCheckBoxColumn: <DataGridCheckBoxColumn Binding="{Binding IsEnabled}" ElementStyle="{StaticResource MyStyle}" EditingElementStyle="{StaticResource MyStyle}" /> Then my binding, IsEnabled, does not toggle when I check/uncheck a row's checkbox. If I remove either ElementStyle, EditingElementStyle, or both, then the binding updates no problem. Why is this?! Also, I tried to work around the problem using the following code: <DataGridTemplateColumn> <DataGridTemplateColumn.CellTemplate> <DataTemplate> <CheckBox IsChecked="{Binding IsEnabled}" /> </DataTemplate> </DataGridTemplateColumn.CellTemplate> </DataGridTemplateColumn> However, the problem remains.

• How to set a checkbox to checked state in a ListView using Autohotkey

  Hi, I am writing a Autohotkey script that need to 'check' and 'uncheck' checkboxes defined inside a listViewControl. I think the way to do it is using a SendMessage to the listview (or maybe to the listview item itself?) using the LVM_SETITEMSTATE parameter but i don't know the exact format...anyone have any idea? SendMessage, LVM_SETITEMSTATE, 1000, SysListView321 i think that 1000 means that the checkbox will be checked and 2000 means that he will be unchecked. do i need to do a loop for each ListViewItem? I had also tried to use the LV_Modify(0, "+Checked") But it doesnt seems to work also. To emphasize the problem, I am not creating my own List View, i'm trying to manipulate the state of an exisiting application ListView.... (i'm running an installer and using the AutoHotKey script i press the next buttons on each of the screens, but in this screen i need to first select all the components and only then move to the next screen) Any AutoHotKey Experts in here?

• How to modify IIS handler mapping permissions via Wix or a Custom Action

  Hi, I'm using Wix to create an installer for a Silverlight application. When I install the application the virtual directory that has been created has the execute permission checked for the *.dll handler mapping (IIS 7 Web site VDir Handler Mappings *.dll Edit Feature Permissions Execute). When I browse to the application it cannot download its satellite assemblies in ClientBin. If I uncheck the execute permission in IIS the handler becomes disabled and the application now works. I don't want to have to do this manually. Does anybody know how to modify the handler mapping permissions in Wix or a Custom Action? Thanks

• Why does WPF toggle button pulse once unchecked

  Wihtin a Desktop app I have a toggle button: For the Checked event I am setting a value and then executing a method FilterView(); //ommitting code Unchecked state is just the opposite. resets a variable and executed the method again The question I have is I noticed when I uncheck the toggle button the button continues to pulse or flash ( going from blue to chrome) as if it still has focus. The button will stay like this until another button is clicked. Is there a way to remove this focus so that when the button is unchecked the button goes back to a unchecked state without the flashing / pulsing color. As you can see from above this is a standard toggle button no styles or custom I tested this on just a regular button and I found the same occured when clicked the button will continue to pulse / flash until another button is clicked. How do you work around this or prevent this effect from happening. Thank you

• How can I hot deploy using the glassfish adapter in Eclipse

  Has anyone gotten the glassfish v3 adapter to work with Eclipse without restarting every time there's a code change? I tried to set this up but the adapter "republishes" every time I change any file, which is very annoying. It takes up to 3 minutes and locks up my machine for a second. I must remember to constantly stop the adapter before making any changes. I'd settle for just disabling this "feature", but even if I uncheck "publish change immediately" this behavior still happens. I'm using the latest version of the glassfish adapter and tried with eclipse 3.5 and the 3.6 milestone builds.... What setup is everyone using if you have glassfish v3 as your server? Is there any way to actually get the hot deploy feature to work correctly?

• How to detect checkbox state in Javascript IE7

  I have a simple checkbox on my website. Everytime you check and uncheck it, it shows an alert as to what the state is. This works flawlessly in FF, Chrome, and IE8. However, when I run this in IE7, no matter if the check is on or off, it always alerts "off". It's like IE7 can't detect that the checkbox is checked. Does anyone have an idea of how to fix this or work around it? I basically need to toggle the visibility of some content based on a checkbox, but IE7 is being difficult. Thanks!
