• ASP.NET Lifecycle and long process

  Hello, I know we need a better solution but we need to get this done this way for right now. We have a long import process that's fired when you click start import button on a aspx web page. It takes a long time..sometimes several hours. I changed the timeout and that's fine but I keep getting a connection server reset error after about an hour. I'm thinking it's the asp.net lifecycle and I'd like to know if there are settings in IIS I can change to make this lifecycle last longer.

  I wrote a bash-script to check if a process is running. It doesn't work since the ps command always returns exit code 1. When I run the ps command from the command-line, the $? is correctly set, but within the script it is always 1. • SQL Server Process Queue Race Condition

  I have an order queue that is accessed by multiple order processors through a stored procedure. Each processor passes in a unique ID which is used to lock the next 20 orders for its own use. The stored procedure then returns these records to the order processor to be acted upon. There are cases where multiple processors are able to retrieve the same 'OrderTable' record at which point they try to simultaneously operate on it. This ultimately results in errors being thrown later in the process. My next course of action is to allow each processor grab all available orders and just round robin the processors but I was hoping to simply make this section of code thread safe and allow the processors to grab records whenever they like.   Hello, I have been doing more client-side development, managing the UI on the client and submitting data to the server via web service calls. I'm not looking for implementation details, but was curious on developer preferences for displaying an operation in process and what to display when completed or even failed. As a for instance, just for clarification sake, what if you are submitting a profile form's data to a web service. I want to display that something's happening to the user, and give them a message that the form submitted successfully. I've in the past used a twitter-style message (that appears at the top), modal dialogs... I was curious what worked for others and any advice (what did the users like/not like, etc.).   Hi I use OpenESB + BPEL. I would like to use some parameter to set system specific settings (path, string constants, etc.). I tried to use a properties file that a simple java class should read up and use with this method (http://wiki.open-esb.java.net/Wiki.jsp?page=BPELSEHowToCallJavaMethods). The problem is that I can't create properties file in BPEL project (not supported). So I created a file by hand. But this file is not included in the deployed app. Is there any working solution for including property file or is there any other method to set parameters on BPEL process? Thanks, Hubidubi

• (iPhone) Instruments can't "Attach to Process"

  Actually, I'm using a second generation Ipod Touch. What I'm trying to do is to debug my app on XCode and look for any memory leaks on Instruments at the same time. Is it even possible? Because the "Attach to Process" submenu lists when my app is running (or debugging in this case) but all the items inside this menu are disabled. All I can do is start the app from Instruments but later I come across some bug and I want to see the variables and properties affected. I'm also new to Instruments. Please, could someone give me any advice? Help would be greatly appreciated!

  We're having a significant number of problems creating a bulk upload function for our little app. We're using the FasterCSV gem to upload data to a MySQL database but he Faster CSV is so twitchy and precise in its requirements that it constantly breaks with malformed CSV errors and time out errors. The csv files are generally created by users' pasting text from their web sites or from Microsoft Word docs so it is not reasonable to expect that there will never be odd characters like smart quotes or accents in the data. Also users aren't going to be readily able to identify whether their data is perfect enough for FasterCSV or not. We need to find a way to fix it for them automatically. Is there a good way or a reliable tool for pre-processing CSV data to fix any nits in the data before having the FasterCSV gem process it?

If I have 3 processes running (all of which are C# applications) - and they all have THE SAME PROCESS NAME but different command line arguments, how can I differentiate between them If I want to start them or terminate them!? Thoughts As far as I can see, I physically cannot differentiate between them, at least not without having to use the Handle, but that doesn't tell me which one of them got terminated because the others will still sit there with the same name........ ....really stumped, help greatly appreciated!

Both Part 1 and Part 2 work perfectly fine independently, but when I run them together on an control event (click a button for example) the program hangs.   I'm trying to find a parental control for Ubuntu that turns adult site words into *. I have tried webcontentcontrol (doesn't even ask me to set a password), mobicip (doesn't even get listed in package names). My family can see my adult bookmark names and that's really embarrassing. I tried sudo apt-get remove webcontentcontrol sudo apt-get -f install sudo apt-get upgrade sudo pkill webcontentcontrol sudo apt-get remove webcontentcontrol but still can't uninstall it. Googling for that error message resulted in a solution that is first said dangerous, later said wrong. After sudo apt-get remove webcontentcontrol, I always get the error message "Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)". What should I do? The full error message is in brazilian portuguese. Should I post it anyway? I have just installed nanny, but while webcontentcontrol is installed, it doesn't load.

  I'm trying to find a significant memory leak (15MB at a time, but doing allocations like this on multiple places). I checked the most obvious places, and then used AQTime, but I still can't pinpoint it. Now I see 2 options left: 1) Use SetProcessWorkingSetSize: I've tried this but my process happily keeps on running when using up more then 150MB: DWORD MemorySize = 150*1024*1024; SetProcessWorkingSetSize( GetCurrentProcess(), MemorySize/2, MemorySize*2 ); 2) Put a breakpoint when allocating more then 1MB at a time. How should I do this, overload operator new with an 'if1MB' inside ?

The FAQ states that SQLite should be able to manage multi process accesses using locks mechanism. We are experiencing a strange problem: When many threads are accessing the same database file, sometime constrains violations occur, more specifically - a field with a unique constrain is getting duplicate values after calling "insert or replace" statement. It happens quite often now, that we are using the encryption. Before we started using SQLite encryption we did not notice such a behavior. Are there any specific known issues with this?

• Computationally intensive scala process using actors hangs uncooperatively

  I have a computationally intensive scala application that hangs. By hangs I means it is sitting in the process stack using 1% CPU but does not respond to kill -QUIT nor can it be attached via jdb attach. Runs 2-12 hours at 800-900% CPU before it gets stuck The application is using ~10 scala.actors. Until now I have had great success with kill -QUIT but I am bit stumped as to how to proceed. The actors write a fair amount to stdout using println which is redirected to a text file but has not been helpful so far diagnostically. I am just hoping there is some obvious technique when kill -QUIT fails that I am ignorant of. Or just confirmation that having multiple actors println asynchronously is a real bad idea (though I've been doing it for a long time only recently with these results) Details scala 2.8.1 & 2.8.0 mac osx 10.6.5 java version "1.6.0_22" Thanks

I restarted my computer to stop the Ctrl key sends.   I have to resurrect an ancient Delphi 7 application, which means I have to use the D7 IDE. Upgrading the project to a more recent version of Delphi unfortunately isn't an option. My new D7 installation's Run menu is missing Attach to Process. Aside from the missing menu item, the debugger works fine (I can debug normal Delphi executables started with Run).   I have a web site and i am showing videos to visitors, at the admin side i am filling the form of video and upload video file and sometimes i need to change(update) the video so i update the video by uploading another one, when i create the video in the first time i concatenate a datetime variable with the video name to avoid repeatition(file already exist) and when updatting the video the problem appears.... as if i upload the new video with the previous name so it will replace the previous one and in this case if the video is used by another process it will fail and the second option(which i am already using) is to upload a new video and concatenating new datetime variable with video title, so the previous and the new video will exist in the same directory and in this case i will lose too much space in my server directory as i have unused videos which takes space which in future will cause problem to me in the disk space so how can i solve this problem ?   Background: I've a folder that gets pumped with files continuously. My SSIS package needs to process the files and delete them. The SSIS package is scheduled to run once every minute. I'm picking up the files in ascending order of file creation time. I'm building an array of files and then processing-deleting them one at a time. Problem: If an instance of my package takes longer than one minute to run, the next instance of the SSIS package will pick up some of the files the previous instance has in its buffer. By the time the second instance of teh package gets around to processing a file, it may already have been deleted by the first instance, creating an exception condition. I was wondering whether there was a way to avoid the exception condition. Thanks.

• Using delayed_job to process file uploads across multiple servers

  Does anyone have any good resources on how to do this? Basically, I'm working on a project (in Rails) where people can upload files. They might be big. I'd like to process them using delayed_job before sending them to S3. I'd also like to do this processing on a separate job queue server, rather than on the webserver itself. I'd rather not have to upload the files to the webserver, then transfer them to the job queue server, and then upload them to S3 if I don't have to. Thanks.
