  • how to compute differences between two binaries (i.e., two executables) in linux

    - by Indranil
In Linux is there any way to compute the differences between two binaries (i.e., two executables)? Let me be more specific: I want to know how to compute the delta (delta difference) between two versions of an executable or application or software in Linux. For example if I have to download and install only the updated part (the delta difference between the latest version and the old version) of an existing application or binary how do I do that in Linux.

  • grep a specific word and sum it

    - by Kimi
I want to grep an environment variable env | grep ABC_IJK[1,2] currenlty defined variables are like this ABC_IJK1=123 ABC_IJK1_XYZ=sn123:345 ABC_IJK2=999 ABC_IJK2_XYZ=sn321:999 I only want to get only this ABC_IJK1=123 ABC_IJK2=999 get number of connections sum them(not 123 + 999) and save in N1 (this one has 2 connection) so N1=2 get number of connections sum them and save in N2 for other machine (if this have four) so N2=4 If the value is not there or the variable is not present then N1=1 for below: ABC_IJK1= ABC_IJK2=123 Then need to compare it with a MAX_CONNECTION variable Thanks

  • Convert Chunk of Data into Tabular Format Using Perl

    - by neversaint
I have a data that looks like this 1:SRX000566 Submitter: WoldLab Study: RNASeq expression profiling for ENCODE project(SRP000228) Sample: Human cell line GM12878(SRS000567) Instrument: Solexa 1G Genome Analyzer Total: 4 runs, 62.7M spots, 2.1G bases Run #1: SRR002055, 11373440 spots, 375323520 bases Run #2: SRR002063, 22995209 spots, 758841897 bases Run #3: SRR005091, 13934766 spots, 459847278 bases Run #4: SRR005096, 14370900 spots, 474239700 bases 2:SRX000565 Submitter: WoldLab Study: RNASeq expression profiling for ENCODE project(SRP000228) Sample: Human cell line GM12878(SRS000567) Instrument: Solexa 1G Genome Analyzer Total: 3 runs, 51.2M spots, 1.7G bases Run #1: SRR002052, 12607931 spots, 416061723 bases Run #2: SRR002054, 12880281 spots, 425049273 bases Run #3: SRR002060, 25740337 spots, 849431121 bases 3:SRX012407 Submitter: GEO Study: GSE17153: Illumina sequencing of small RNAs from C. elegans embryos(SRP001363) Sample: Caenorhabditis elegans(SRS006961) Instrument: Illumina Genome Analyzer II Total: 1 run, 3M spots, 106.8M bases Run #1: SRR029428, 2965597 spots, 106761492 bases Is there a compact way to convert them into tabular format (tab separated). Hence 1 entry/row per chunk. In these case 3 rows. I tried this but doesn't seem to work. perl -laF/\n/ -000ne"print join chr(9),@F" myfile.txt

  • sed/awk or other: one-liner to increment a number by 1 keeping spacing characters

    - by WizardOfOdds
EDIT: I don't know in advance at which "column" my digits are going to be and I'd like to have a one-liner. Apparently sed doesn't do arithmetic, so maybe a one-liner solution based on awk? I've got a string: (notice the spacing) eh oh 37 and I want it to become: eh oh 36 (so I want to keep the spacing) Using awk I don't find how to do it, so far I have: echo "eh oh 37" | awk '$3>=0&&$3<=99 {$3--} {print}' But this gives: eh oh 36 (the spacing characters where lost, because the field separator is ' ') Is there a way to ask awk something like "print the output using the exact same field separators as the input had"? Then I tried yet something else, using awk's sub(..,..) method: ' sub(/[0-9][0-9]/, ...) {print}' but no cigar yet: I don't know how to reference the regexp and do arithmetic on it in the second argument (which I left with '...' for now). Then I tried with sed, but got stuck after this: echo "eh oh 37" | sed -e 's/\([0-9][0-9]\)/.../' Can I do arithmetic from sed using a reference to the matching digits and have the output not modify the number of spacing characters? Note that it's related to my question concerning Emacs and how to apply this to some (big) Emacs region (using a replace region with Emacs's shell-command-on-region) but it's not an identical question: this one is specifically about how to "keep spaces" when working with awk/sed/etc.

  • perl issuing os command with defined variables

    - by Vinnie Biros
I am adding functionality into my scripts so that they can use kerberos authentication to run automatically and use secure protocols when executing. I have my functionality working for shell scripts that do exactly what i want, however i am having issues porting it to perl to work within my perl scripts as i am new to perl. Here is my working shell code and trying to get the same functionality in perl: #!/bin/sh ticketFileName=`basename $0-$$` #set filename variable to name of script plus the PID krb5CacheLocation=/tmp/$ticketFileName #set ticket cache location to /tmp + script name /usr/share/centrifydc/kerberos/bin/kinit -c $krb5CacheLocation -kt /root/.ssh/someaccount.keytab someaccount #get TGT and specifiy ticket cache location on kinit export KRB5CCNAME=$krb5CacheLocation #set the KRB5CCNAME variable to tell ssh where to look What i have attempted in perl: #!/usr/bin/perl my $ticketFileName = `basename $0-$$`; my $krb5CacheLocation = '/tmp/'.$ticketFileName; `export KRB5CCNAME=$krb5CacheLocation`; `/usr/share/centrifydc/kerberos/bin/kinit -c $krb5CacheLocation -kt /root/.ssh/unixmap0000.keytab unixmap0000`; Seems it is not liking the passed variable that i am referencing in the OS command. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

  • Start Codeblocks project from external code

    - by Dnaiel
I have C++ code that depends on boost and other libraries, and therefore this code has a makefile that invokes boost. I am now trying to start developing this code in codeblocks in linux, so in order to do that I have two basic questions: (1) How can I import the code into codeblocks as a codeblocks new project? (2) How do I invoke the makefile with codeblocks instead of codeblocks trying to compile the code (which it would fail since codeblocks does not know that it needs to invoke boost). Sorry if it's too basic but I am quite new to C++ and codeblocks. Thanks!

  • Parse string with bash and extract number

    - by cleg
Hello I've got supervisor's status output, looking like this. frontend RUNNING pid 16652, uptime 2:11:17 nginx RUNNING pid 16651, uptime 2:11:17 redis RUNNING pid 16607, uptime 2:11:32 I need to extract nginx's PID. I've done it via grep -P command, but on remote machine grep is build without perl regular expression support. Looks like sed or awk is exactly what I need, but I don't familiar with them. Please help me to find a way how to do it, thanks in advance.

  • "Correct" way to playback user movement with xlib?

    - by Dasuraga
I'm trying to figure out a way to make demos for a program I've written with xlib, and I came across this, but, according to the author page: This extension is not intended to support general journaling and playback of user actions. Does anyone know of any functions in xlib that are intended to support playback of user actions? Does it even exist? Or could I just use this without any real problems?

Installing RDoc documentation for fastercsv-1.5.3... And try it again. rake gems (in /Users/jp/Sites/central/trunk) - [F] authlogic - [R] activesupport - [F] builder - [F] formtastic - [R] activesupport >= 2.3.0 - [R] actionpack >= 2.3.0 - [ ] fastercsv I = Installed F = Frozen R = Framework (loaded before rails starts) One thing to know is that I tried unpacking the gems but if it doesn't think it's installed it can't unpack it. Another thing is that I really tried to figure this out. There's a bunch of people saying clean up local gems in your user account, always install with sudo, etc. But I've tried all that. What would you guys do to fix this? Thanks many times over, Josh

However, I'm getting an error with it. serverPath = "ftp://x.x.x.x/tmp/myfile.txt"; FtpWebRequest request = (FtpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(serverPath); request.KeepAlive = true; request.UsePassive = true; request.UseBinary = true; request.Method = WebRequestMethods.Ftp.DownloadFile; request.Credentials = new NetworkCredential(username, password); // Read the file from the server & write to destination using (FtpWebResponse response = (FtpWebResponse)request.GetResponse()) // Error here using (Stream responseStream = response.GetResponseStream()) using (StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(responseStream)) using (StreamWriter destination = new StreamWriter(destinationFile)) { destination.Write(reader.ReadToEnd()); destination.Flush(); } The error is: The remote server returned an error: (550) File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access) The file definately does exist on the remote machine and I am able to perform this ftp manually (i.e. I have permissions). Can anyone tell me why I might be getting this error?

  • elegant way to make directory recursively in Python?

    - by user248237
I would like to make a directory in a "recursive" way, i.e. have a function make_directory() that behaves as follows: make_directory("a/b/c/d/") should create directory a, then child b, then c, then d. If any of the parent directories exist it should not make them. E.g. if "a" exists, then b should be a subdir of that, and then c should be made inside b, etc. how can I do this in python? os.mkdir does not have this behavior.

  • AWK If/ElseConditional Problem

    - by neversaint
    I have a data that looks like this: foo foo scaffold_7 1 4845 6422 4845 bar bar scaffold_7 -1 14689 16310 16310 What I want to do is to process the above lines where I just want to print column 1,2,3, 7 and one more column after 7th. But with condition when printing column 7 onwards. Below is my awk script: awk '{ if ($4=="+") { {end=$6-$5}{print $1 "\t" $2 "\t" $3 "\t" $4 "\t" $7 "\t" end+$7} } else {end=$6-$5}{print $1 "\t" $2 "\t" $3 "\t" $4 "\t" $7-end "\t" $7} }' But why it doesn't achieve the desired result like this? foo foo scaffold_7 1 4845 6422 bar bar scaffold_7 -1 14689 16310 Note that the arithmetic (e.g. $7-end or end+$7) is a must. So we can't just swap column from input file. Furthermore this AWK will be inside a bash script.

  • Renaming and Moving Files in Bash

    - by KT
HI, I'm completely new to Bash and StackOverflow. I need to move a set of files (all contained in the same folder) to a target folder where files with the same name could already exist. In case a specific file exists, I need to rename the file before moving it, by appending for example an incremental integer to the file name. The extensions should be preserved. The file names could contain dots in the middle. Originally, I was thinking about comparing the two folders to have a list of the existing files (I did this with "comm"), but then I got a bit stuck. I think I'm just trying to do things in the most complicated possible way. Any hint to do this in the "bash way"?

  • Listing all shared memory segments used by a process on AIX5.3+

    - by Frank Meerkötter
I would like to find all shared memory segments used by a given process. I am especially interested in figuring out the shmid so i can use it in calls to shmctl(). On Solaris i would just read /proc/$PID/map to figure out that information (field pr_shmid). The contents of that file are defined by struct prmap_t in sys/procfs. AIX also has a /proc/$PID/map file. There is also a struct prmap but unfortunately it is missing the pr_shmid field. Any ideas how i can achieve this on AIX5.3+?

  • Options for Linux OS executable archive files - self installers

    - by Matt1776
I am looking to create a web-project that is able to install with a program. The user should be able to download an archive file or tar file, run it (executable), and the setup script would ask for paths and configurable values and then unpack its 'payload' and sorting out the contents for deployment. This would be a Linux version of the MSI installer. Is there such a thing for Linux operating systems? This does not involve kernel level manipulations. All it needs to do is copy directories and files on the filesystem, which should cover about 80% if not more of all the *nix distributions.

  • Detect number of IDLE processors ruby

    - by Yannick Wurm
Hello, I work on shared linux machines with between 4 and 24 cores. To make best use of them, I use the following code to detect the number of processors from my ruby scripts: return `cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep processor | wc -l`.to_i (perhaps there is a pure-ruby way of doing this?) But sometimes a colleague is using six or eight of the 24 cores. (as seen via top). How can I get an estimate of the number of currently unused processors that I can use without making anyone upset? Thanks!
