• Ubuntu VPN Server (PPTPD) Configuration - Pass Traffic to Internet

  I am trying to configure PPTPD on my Ubuntu box to pass all VPN traffic through to it's internet connection, so I essentially want it to work like a Proxy. I think the problem is that no default gateway is being assigned to my PPTP client (Windows 7). I can connect to the VPN fine, I get an IP address and DNS servers but no default gateway. Do I need to configure a specific option to tell the VPN server to forward all traffic it receives down it's eth0 port and out to the internet. Thanks!

  My Linux server is connected to AD via Bind DN and password (without domain joining). It is using sssd for authentication. I am able to ssh and login without any issue. I have a proper setup of uid and guid, etc. .. There is no issue with logging to the linux server. I want the samba service to use AD accounts, but I can't find documentation for how to configure it in this case. Can anyone explain how to configure samba to use active directory for authentication on a system using sssd?

  Hi, New to NGINX, we inherited a project that runs Django/FCGI/NGINX on a hosted RHEL box. A requirement has come in that the site now needs to have ssl enabled. Client was pretty sure the person who had built the site had made it so they could use ssl. I backed up the conf file, added the server block for the ssl instance and tried to reload. Reload failed because it didn't recognize the ssl in this line: ssl on; Not an NGINX expert, but the David Caruso in me tells me that the server (sunglasses on) is not secure. I know that you need to configure NGINX at install with this module. If this didn't happen, how hard/risky is it to reconfigure a running nginx box with this module given that we didn't configure it in the first place.

• How to get access to console to reset Cisco 3750?

  I acquired two Cisco 3750 switches from another part of my organization. I was able to complete the standard password/config reset procedure on one without any issues -- boot it, put it into express config mode, telnet in, reset the passwords, etc. The second one doesn't ever boot to the point where it displays anything on the console. When power cycled, the 'SYST' light flashes green a few times, then comes on a solid green and stays lit. None of the other lights ever flash or light up. Holding down the 'MODE' button for up to 30 seconds produces no noticeable effects. Nothing ever comes out on the console. Since I was able to configure the first one without any problems, I know my connectinon is good -- console port configured right, good cable, etc. Is this just a hardware problem with the switch? Is there any way I can recover from this and get the switch back into a state where I can configure it?

This network currently has a server (Windows Server 2008R2) running RRAS that establishes connectivity to the internet using a demand-dial PPPoE connection and handles the NAT. It also hosts a DNS server and DHCP. My ISP does not support IPv6, but I have a static IPv4 address. I've read about 6to4 and signed up at tunnelbroker.net, but quickly felt out of my depth. • Ubuntu 12.04 VPS doesn't boot with mysql in nsswitch.conf

  1and1 VPS ("dynamic cloud server") does not boot any more as soon as mysql lookup is enabled in nsswitch.conf - any suggestions appreciated. Minimal setup to reproduce the problem: install Ubuntu 12.04 / LTS minimal server image install mysql-server, libnss-mysql-bg, nscd configure /etc/libnss-mysql.cfg and /etc/libnss-mysql-root.cfg set up appropriate database tables configure nss lookups through mysql in nsswitch.conf passwd: compat mysql group: compat mysql shadow: compat mysql Now, when I try to reboot the server it just hangs. No logs (maybe due to /var not yet being mounted), and I can't see console output (since this is a VPS). Booting into recovery image and removing "mysql" from /etc/nsswitch.conf makes the system bootable again, so this is definitely related to nsswitch/libnss-mysql-bg. There's a thread on gentoo-users which seems to describe a similar problem, unfortunately there's no real solution described, also the thread is rather old (from 2006) so I'm not sure whether this applies to me at all.

I have read some articles, and they have been helpful, but not complete. The following is what I have gleaned are the steps I need to take: Commission a computer to be the server with Windows 2003 Server. Install the WSUS package(s) and select the type of updates to check for. Configure the rest of my computers to be clients of this server. Set the clients to receive updates from the server. My questions are as follows: Does the server have to run Windows 2003 Server, or will Windows XP Professional work? Where do I download the WSUS packages from?   I recently had a spamming incident and got listed on a blacklist. I have rectified the issue, removed from the blacklist, but my IP reputation is now classified as a high volume sender. But during the install process, I am stuck in 'setup my partition'. It has 2 options: wipe out my whole hard disk' or 'manually configure' I don't want it to wipe out my whole hard disk (i want to keep my window 7). But how can I manually configure the partition to use the free space and create a partition so that I can install ubuntu 9.10 and swap space? Thank you.

• why do Vagrant docs suggest using public IP address 33.33.33.10 for local VMs?

  I'm following a tutorial to set up vagrant (a tool to build and configure portable virtual machine images), and it seems that vagrant documentation suggests using IPv4 address 33.33.33.10 to configure a new box. That is a publicly routed IP adress, so I'm a bit confused why using this address is suggested. Since I don't own this network, I should not use an address from the 33.33.33.10/8 range. Am I correct in thinking that I should only use either a public address from a network I own, or an address from one of the private ranges as defined in RFC 1918? If so, why does Vagrant documentation suggest otherwise?

Now, I like to know if it is possible to configure a reverse proxy for only one server /application (in this case our web intranet). Our problem is Intranet call another aplication inside same intranet server and another internal servers, and the only way that I know to publish this resources is make a reverse proxy in our dmz apache for all apllications servers, but I like that from our DMZ reverse apache only intranet will be called, and other applications will be called by intranet server, and not reverse proxy. • Reporting Services 2008 & 2012 side by side

  I have installed Sql Server 2008 & 2012 side by side on the same machine, and that's includes the reporting service for each. Both are instances are named instances: MSSQLSERVER2008 and MSSQLSERVER2012. I didn't configure the 2008 one but configured 2012 first and this one is working fine. However later on when I wanted to configure the 2008 reporting service instance I was not able to do so; it simply cannot find it. Both services are displayed as running, nevertheless while being in Reporting Services Configuration Manager only the 2012 instance is displayed. I tried stopping the 2012 but still no luck, 2008 won't show up in the RS configuration manager. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance Iulian

  I'm stuck how best to configure disk array. We have Hp P2000 G3 disk array with 24 SAS physical disks 300Gb each. We need to configure this array got 2 copies of PostgreSQL 9.2 because two different system. As we know it's recommended to store database and transaction logs(pg_xlog) files on separate disks. So we must setup 4 logical disk: 2 for transaction logs with RAID 1 2 for database with RAID 10 Is this right scheme of distribution? Or may be it is best to just make one big RAID 10 with 4 logical disks?
