• Where to find ServerName in a PHP Script

  I'm looking to retrieve the ServerName field located in /etc/apache2/apache2.conf. My only issue is then calling it in PHP (echo $_SERVER['SERVER_NAME'];) it gives me not the server name but the ip address. If I pull a phpinfo(); I can the server name under the Hostname:Port field under the apache2handler, so I know it's accessible somehow.

  I've been looking around for something like this for a while, and I've found some tips on similar issues, but not exactly the same. I really don't know what to do. I downloaded and installed WAMP, and I have a MySQL and PHPMyAdmin setup according to common indications that can be found everywhere (securing MySQL root account, etc.). When I log into PHPMyAdmin (either as root or as pma), I see the following message at the bottom of the page: The additional features for working with linked tables have been deactivated. • Handling site not found and page not found with dynamic mass virtual hosting

  I have recently setup mass virtual hosting in Apache so that all we need to do is create a directory to create a new vhost. We're then also using wildcard DNS to map all subdomains to the server running our Apache instance. This works excellently, however I'm now having trouble configuring it to fail-over to an appropriate default/error-page when the vhost directory does not exist. The problem appears to be conflated between by my desire to handle the two error conditions: vhost not found i.e. there was no directory found matching the host supplied in the HTTP host header. I'd like this to display an appropriate site not found error page. The 404 page not found condition of the vhost. Additionally I have a specialised "api" vhost in its own vhost block. I've tried a number of variations and none seem to exhibit the behaviour I want. Here's what I'm working with right now: NameVirtualHost *:80 <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /var/www/site-not-found ServerName sitenotfound.mydomain.org ErrorDocument 500 /500.html ErrorDocument 404 /500.html </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName api.mydomain.org DocumentRoot /var/www/vhosts/api.mydomain.org/current # other directives, e.g. setting up passenger/rails etc... </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:80> # get the server name from the Host: header UseCanonicalName Off VirtualDocumentRoot /var/www/vhosts/%0/current # other directives ... e.g proxy passing to api etc... ErrorDocument 404 /404.html </VirtualHost> My understanding is that the first vhost block is used as the default, so I have this here as my catch all site. Next I have my API vhost, and then finally my mass vhost block. So for a domain that doesn't match the first two ServerName's and has no corresponding directory in /var/www/vhosts/ I'd expect it to fall-over to the first vhost, however with this setup, all domains resolve to my default site-not-found. Why is this? By putting the mass-vhost block first, I can get the mass-vhosts to resolve properly, but not my site-not-found vhost... and in this case I can't seem to find a way to distinguish between a page-level 404 in the vhost, and the case where the VirtualDocumentRoot fails to find a vhost directory (this appears to use the 404 also). Any help out of this bind is much appreciated!

• nginx error page and internal directives not working as expected

  I'd like to setup my nginx server to return a specific error page on HTTP 50x status codes, and I'd like this page to be unavailable by a direct request from users (e.g., http//mysite/internalerror). For that, I'm using nginx's internal directive, but I must be missing something, as when I put that directive on my /internalerror location, nginx returns a custom 404 error (which isn't even my own 404 error page) when a page crashes. • Which DNS settings are used when setting up your server

  I have a server and want to run my own name server service. Now I have set it up already and it works not, but I do not know where the exact settings are stored. On my server I use Plesk. When I edit DNS settings there I think it is stored in named.conf. Named is installed on the server, and BIND. Now I also have a panel from my registrar. This is separate from my server. Both places I can add the normal MX,A,CNAME, etc records. Now where is the best way to place this settings. Currently I have the same records on both places, on the server and at the registrar panel. I am correct to just add all the records at the registrar panel, and remove everything from within PLESK, and just don't run DNS on my server, because it is already done in the registrar panel. Or should I add the records in both places.

• Can Apache be configured to write to access.log or error.log with a different extension?

  One of the things that I am investigating is using the dateext option for logrotate. However if I understood things correctly apache will keep writing to the files access.log and error.log. I was wondering if there was a way to have apache log to a file access.log.YYYYMMDD and error.log.YYYYMMDD instead? Where YYYYMMDD would be the timestamp when the file was created.

  Using a VM I installed Windows 2008 Server x64 and as the image below shows, added the IIS Role full image and assigned all role features of IIS full image But if I have an ASP.NET (aspx) page that does (C#) Session["test-session"] = "A"; and read in other page I always get nothing! NOTE: I do have an entire ASP.NET web application, the example above is to be succinct and explicit on what is the problem I'm facing. • How do I point one virtual host to another instance of apache running at another port on the same bo

  Hi there. I've got two apache2 instances running on my box. One came with a bitnami redmine stack which sole purpose is to host Redmine at host:8080/redmine. The other apache instance is running with php and such and is where I specify all the VHosts for my domains. Now I'd like to point redmine.somedomain.com at www.somedomain.com:8080/redmine so that redmine is accessible through a subdomain and on port 80. Redmine is a Ruby on Rails app and runs with Phusion Passenger so I can't just point the vhost to the htdocs directory of the redmine install. How is this done? I've tinkered with ProxyPass and ProxyPassReverse but I just can't get it working. All help is greatly appreciated.

  I have absolutely no idea what I am doing wrong here. I have followed just about every guide there is with installing cakephp on shared hosting and I am still having problems. I have also started over each time when following a guide. Maybe someone can help me out here as I am out of options. Here is my current setup: / app webroot vendors lib cake public_html .htaccess index.php plugins I have configured the index.php file in the public_html to point to the correct files. I have also done this in the index.php file located in webroot folder. I am getting an Internal 500 server error and it says to check my logs for what the error specifically is. However there are no logs being generated.   I have php script on hosting, which receive big data with ajax/post. Just now, after some works on hosting, I see that script is broken. Looks like a problem with apache/php/php.ini or something like that. I check .htaccess php_value post_max_size 20M Which other parameters I should check? • Is there anyway to build a raid system without all drives?

  I'm building a raid1 (ok it will probably be a raid10,f2 but the difference with 2 drives... isn't much) system with 2 1TB drives. However, 1 of the drives I've ordered is bad so I'm RMA-ing it. I'm wondering if I could partition and install to the 1 drive and then rebuild the array when I get the second drive (after I test it of course) My initial investigation doesn't show me a way of creating the array without specifying all devices... and the device the second drive will be is one that has data that I will need to migrate (plus it's not big enough). Is it possible that I could create an array without specifying all devices? or specify false ones and reconfigure to the right ones later? Or some other method I'm not thinking of.

I also tried converting the project to 4.0 and tried the Classic and Integrated Mode application pool for .Net 4.0 with no luck. I also tried adding the managed handler through IIS Manager's Handler Mappings. If you have time please download the source (184kb) to reproduce the problem on your own machine. The zip contains a VS2010 solution (.Net 2.0). You could also try to convert this to .Net 4.0 I am using Windows 7 anyway if that matters. If you need more details, please drop your comments below. This is working fine by the way on my webdev server.

• RAID0 PROBLEM WITH A SONY SPORTING A NEW HDD

  Sony Windows 7 PC. Originally had 2 x 300Gb HDD. One HDD completely pancaked so have replaced with a new 500Gb HDD. When both drives are connected the 300GB doesn't appear to be recognised as a 300Gb HDD as a seperate entity. BIOS sees it but the operating system only sees a total of 465GB of HD space. When both disks are attached unde disk management it shows one 465Gb as RAID 0 and the new drive as STxxxxxx 465Gb. My question I guess is what should I see in total HDD space and is this configured correctly as I thought I would see 2 seperate drives 1x500Gb and 1x300Gb. My customer insisted that prior to the HDD crash he saw 2 drives both registering as 300Gb (a c: and d: drive).

• How to configure IIS 7.5 to allow special chars in Url for ASP.NET 3.5?

  I'm trying to configure my IIS 7.5 to allow specials chars in the url for ASP.NET. This is important to support wide-spread legacy url's on a new system. Sample url: http://mydomain.com/FileWith%inTheName.html This would be encoded in the url and requested as http://mydomain.com/FileWith25%inTheName.html This simply works, when creating a new web in IIS 7.5, placing a file with the percentage sign in the file name in the web root and pointing the browser to it. This does not work, however, when the web site is an ASP.NET application. ASP.NET always returns a 400.0 - Bad Request error in the WindowsAuthentication module from the StaticFile handler, when pointing to that url. It however displays the requested url correctly and also resolves correctly to the correct physical file (the information from the field 'Physical Path' from the Server error page points to the physically available file). There are hints on how to enable this, so I followed the instructions on these websites step by step: http://dirk.net/2008/06/09/ampersand-the-request-url-in-iis7/ http://adorr.net/2010/01/configure-iis-to-accept-url-with-special-characters.html The second one actually sums up the information from the first post and adds some more information about x64 systems (we're running x64) and on an additional web.config change for this. I tried all that, and still can't get this running from an asp.net web application. And yes: I rebooted after applying the registry changes. So, what do I have to do in addition to the settings described in above posts, to support the legacy url's which contain percentage characters? Additional info: Application Pool mode is integrated. Push after some days. No idea anyone?

• If two separate PATH directories contain a same-named executable, how does Windows choose?

  I'm in the process of upgrading PEAR (PHP) on my system. The upgrade script is encouraging me to add "..\PHP\PEAR" to my PATH so that I can use "pear.bat". However, I already am able to use pear.bat. Looking in my PATH, I see that I don't have any PEAR directories, only my PHP directory. Opening my PHP directory, I see that there's a "pear.bat" in the base. But there's also a pear.bat in the PEAR subfolder of PHP. I'm wondering if I borked a PEAR install. I digress. So if I leave ..\PHP in my path, but also add ..\PHP\PEAR -- both of which have a "pear.bat" in them -- which one will Windows "choose"? How does Windows decide?

• Tomcat memory usage grows until crash with no GC run

  I'm administrating a server running Tomcat that is getting a lot of traffic lately. If I monitor memory usage in Task Manager I can see the memory usage growing and eventually tomcat crashes around the 1GB mark. Here's the memory relevent bits I've set in Tomcat Properties (this is a Windows Server): Intial memory pool: 1024 MB Maximum memory pool: 1024 MB -XX:MaxPermSize=256M The weird thing is since these problems arose I've deployed Lambda Probe to the Tomcat instance and the memory usage values I see there are much lower, for example Task Manager might show 467MB used while the "Total" used in Probe is 212 MB. Also, the Maximum Total listed in Probe is 1.29GB, when I would have expected 1GB, the maximum memory set above. If I force the garbage collector to run using Probe, I can keep Tomcat from crashing for a while (indefinitely, AFAIK). So why doesn't the GC run automatically and stop Tomcat from crashing? Thanks.

  I have problem with spam and postfix + postgray. It generally good works but I have false-positive still and reject good email. And now I have problems. Can I configure postfix (and postgray) that: if_reject than redirect to [email protected] (change recipients). Or I don't know maybe: Each email have to copy and send to [email protected] Then filtering? If hit restriction than just reject (another copy is in [email protected]) How to do it?
