• Can I modify package.xml file in SQL bootstrapper to install a named SQL server instance

  I want to use the SqlExpress2008 Bootstrapper for a new installation on Windows7, I do not want to use the default SQLEXPRESS Instance. I have attempted to edit the package.xml file located in: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\Bootstrapper\Packages\SqlExpress2008\en\package.xml and updated the command argument instancename=CUSTOMINSTANCE But unfortunately it still creates the default SQLEXPRESS not CUSTOMINSTANCE The wix tag is as follows: <sql:SqlDatabase Id="SqlDatabaseCore" ConfirmOverwrite="yes" ContinueOnError="no" CreateOnInstall="yes" CreateOnReinstall="no" CreateOnUninstall="no" Database="MyDatabase" DropOnInstall="no" DropOnReinstall="no" DropOnUninstall="no" Instance="[SQLINSTANCE]" Server="[SQLSERVER]"> <sql:SqlFileSpec Id="SqlFileSpecCore" Filename="[CommonAppDataFolder]MyCompany\Database\MyDatabase.mdf" Name="MyDatabase" /> <sql:SqlLogFileSpec Id="SqlLogFileSpecCore" Filename="[CommonAppDataFolder]MyCompany\Database\MyDatabase.ldf" Name="MyDatabaseLog" /> Is this the standard way to accomplish this?

• Install multiple iPhone apps at once from Xcode to device

  Supposing we have an Xcode iPhone project with 2 targets, is it possible to build and install both of them on the device with one click? Of course, I understand we will not be able to "build and run" both, but can we at least install them? And to extend this concept a bit a bit: are there any scripts to achieve the same thing but with multiple iPhone projects instead of multiple targets in one project? This would be useful when you want to load all your apps on a new development device and don't want to go through all your projects one by one and install.

• Microsecond (or one ms) time resolution on an embedded device (Linux Kernel)

  Hey guys, I have a kernel module I've built that requires at least 1 ms time resolution. I currently use do_gettimeofday() but I'm concerned that this won't work once I move my module to an embedded device. The device has a 180 Mz processor (MIPS) and the default HZ value in the kernel is 100. Thus using jiffies will only give me at best 10 ms resolution. That won't cut it. What I'd like to know is if do_gettimeofday() is based on the timer interrupt (HZ). Can it be guaranteed to provide at least 1 ms of resolution? Thanks!

  How do you make VS 2008 automatically install SQL Server CE 3.5 when debugging (F5) a CF app on a windows Mobile 5.0 device? VS used to do this automatically, but now it stopped and I don't know why. I have changed the structure of my solution and the projects, but it is still using SQL Server CE 3.5. It used to also install the Query Analyzer as well which was useful. I frequently uninstall all the programs on the device or do hard reboots so installing this manually is what I am trying to avoid.

  ...before the pagination chunks have been determined. I know you can do this in multiple statements, but there must be a better way. my results are returned ordered by date and I want to return the pagination chunk that contains a given id. So I could, for example, select the date of the given id and then select a chunk of results where date is less than or greater than the date. That would work. But is there some native mysql method of doing this sort of thing in one statement? It just seems reasonable to expect that we could ask for X results in which a given id exists if results are ordered by date.

  Hi guys I am getting a problem when i compile my iphone database application to device. When i debug the code it says database path "out of scope" on the break point and it does not compile the statement. • Finding out whether a DirectInput device supports XInput (with mingw/gcc)

  I'm working on an input system, wrapping DirectInput and XInput. Currently XInput devices are enumerated twice, once as XInput and once as DirectInput (since they support both). How can I find out if a given DirectInput device also supports XInput? There is this MSDN page on the topic, but it requires wbemidl.h and wmsstd.h which aren't available in mingw/gcc (and for some reason I want to avoid msvc - probably by habit). I don't think blacklisting device names/guids is a good solution, but is there a better one? Thanks.

  Hello, I have the following Groovy+SwingBuilder code. In one panel I generate checkboxes and in another panel I want to access the values of the checkboxes. • Accessing the feed/entry/id field of an ATOM 1.0 feed with the ROME library

  Hi, I feel a bit stupid asking this question, but I don't know how I can access the ID field of an entry when using ROME to parse an Atom feed. ROME provides it's own meta level of feeds/items, i.e. SyndFeed and SyndEntry. Being an abstraction over RSS and ATOM they only contain elements both formats support. Thus, there is no method to get an ID of an entry. There also exist low level packages for the distinct formats, and the Atom package contains com.sun.syndication.feed.atom.Entry, which provides getId(). However, I don't know how can I convert my SyndEntry into an Entry. I have not found a way to convert it. The (outdated) tutorials show a conversion, but that's only for output though. So how can I easily access the ID field? Thanks in advance.

  I am working on an Embedded Windows CE project and am interested in accessing a USB HID device through one of its USB Host ports. All I really need to read are the raw HID spec packets. On a windows computer, I have a working program using hid.dll, but as far as I have researched, there is no equivalent on CE. I know there is the usbhid.dll, but I'm not sure if it is applicable for this situation. I would prefer not to write a kernel level driver, as I would like to do my coding in c#. Has anyone had experience consuming an HID device on Windows CE?

• JSF/Seam - new component instance on submit?

  And my confusion with JSF continues. This is a continuation of a question asked yesterday, but I feel it warrants a new question. I have a single seam component that expects a URL parameter to be injected for retrieving a List<String> from a method. This works perfectly on the first navigation to the page. The List is used to display many different selectOneRadio groups that populate a <h:form/>. Now on the submit, I cannot get the URL parameter to be injected or otherwise set on the component! Adding <h:inputHidden/> causes FacesExceptions to be thrown. Then I tried setting the List as an instance variable on the object, and when the subsequent call is made on the submit (which I also do not understand why that is done) I check to see if the variable is non-null: if it isn't, return it. Now I found that a new instance of the component is created on submit!!! getList() called this.toString(): .BeanAction@5fd98420 #### This is when submit is clicked getList() called this.toString(): .BeanAction@22aacbce The component has the following annotations: Stateful @Scope(ScopeType.CONVERSATION) @Name("bean") @Restrict("#{identity.loggedIn}") Can someone explain why there is a new instance of the component created? I'm really not quite sure how to go about handling this. I thought the hidden parameter would work, because that is how I would do it with straight HTML, and I'm a little surprised that its not working for JSF/Seam.

  Hi All, I am trying to do a sample project on the Apple the push notification. I created an AppID, done some terminal commands, and finally got a Provisional Certificate for do the same. I got the certificate installed on my device and SDK. Till now every thing goes fine. But when i try to run the app on the device.... it doesnt.   I am currently dealing with two devices connected to the I2C bus within an embedded system running Linux. I am using an exisiting driver for the first device, a camera. For the second device, I have successfully implemented a userspace program with which I can communicate with the second device. So far, both devices seem to coexist happily. However, almost all I2C devices have their own driver module. Thus, I am wondering what the advantages of a driver module are. This query returns the correct number(using print_r()) but I cannot figure out how to access it. Here is the main code.   Following the feedback i got from: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2683682/new-to-linux-kernel-driver-development/2683819 I have written a driver (.c file) by comparing it with an existing driver and "borrowing" heavily from its code. The driver is registered fine and init() and probe() are working fine. I am also able to access the peripheral device registers. :-) However i am a bit hazy about the IRQ/ISR. The peripheral-device is a input device and raises an interrupt on a GPIO pin. How do i move ahead from my current state ( init(), probe(), etc. ) to be able to handle the IRQ and execute my ISR function?? Many-Thanks in Advance

  I'm following the Kevin Skoglund tutorial Ruby on Rails 3 Essential Training, which was written for rails 3.0, though I am currently using 3.2. It uses the following method in the pages_controller with a before_filter to display only the pages which belong to the parent subject. The tutorial explicitly uses .find_by_id because if the result is nil it "will not return an error". However I get the "Called id for nil, which would mistakenly be 4 -- if you really wanted the id of nil, use object_id" error when trying to view a page where @subject has been set to nil. def find_subject if params[:subject_id] @subject = Subject.find_by_id(params[:subject_id]) end end The actual code that is causing the error is: def list @pages = Page.order("pages.position ASC").where(:subject_id => @subject.id) end Is this something that has changed since 3.0? If so, what would be the correct way to implement this functionality in 3.2?

• Clustered index dilemma - ID or sort?

  I have a table with two very important fields: id INT identity(1,1) PRIMARY KEY identifiersortcode VARCHAR(900) My app always sorts and pages search results in the UI based on identifiersortcode, but all table joins (and they are legion) are on the id field. (Aside: yes, the sort code really is that long. There's a strong BL reason.) Also, due to O/RM use, most SELECT statements are going to pull almost every column. Currently, the clustered index is on id, but I'm wondering if the TOP / ORDER BY portion of most queries would make identifiersortcode a more attractive option as the clustered key, even considering all of the table joins going on. Inserts on the table and changes to the identifiersortcode are limited enough that changing my clustered index would be a problem for insert/update operations. Trying to make the sort code's non-clustered index a covering index (using INCLUDE) is not a good option. There are a number of large columns, and some of them have a lot of update activity.

  VB.NET 2008 - WinForms Hi Everyone! I've been looking for an answer to my problem but I only find more questions related to my problem... The thing is that I'm using a AxWebBrowser control in VB.NET 2008 to open a excel file in a WindowsForm, it opens succesfully and everything... but the problem is this: If I had a Excel File Open before opening another Excel File in my WebBrowser Control, the window that contains the file that was already open gets locked... (I can't give focus to that Excel window... If I click on it, the focus returns to my application) I tried creating a new excel instance with CreateObject("Excel.Application") just before loading the file, but the WebBrowser locks the first Excel Instance... Is there a way to lock it to the last instance??? I use the WebBrowser1.Navigate(Url) method to load the file... where Url is a String like C:\myExcelFile.xlsm WebBrowser1.Document.Application.UserControl is also True, but it get's locked. Any Suggestion?? Thanks in Advance!!!
