  • Why is Harvest being purchased at all?

    - by Mike Caron
Does your work environment use Harvest SCM? I've used this now at two different locations and find it appalling. In one situation I wrote a conversion script so I could use CVS locally and then daily import changes to the Harvest system while I was sleeping. The corp was fanatic about using Harvest, despite 80% of the programmers crying for something different. It was needlessly complicated, slow and heavy. It is now a job requirement for me that Harvest is not in use where I work. Has anyone else used Harvest before? What's your experience? As bad as mine? Did you employ other, different workarounds? Why is this product still purchased today?

  • How do set default values in django for an HttpRequest.GET?

    - by Mike
I have a webpage that displays data based on a default date. The user can then change their view of the data by slecting a date with a date picker and clicking a submit button. I already have a variable set so that if no date is chosen, a default date is used.... so what's the problem? The problem comes if the user trys to type in the url page without a parameter... like so: http://mywebpage/viewdata (example A) instead of http://mywebpage/viewdata?date= (example B) I tried using: if request.method == 'GET': but apparently, even example A still returns true. I'm sure I'm doing some obvious beginner's mistake but I'll ask anyway... Is there a simpler way to handle example A other than passing the url to a string and checking the string for "?date="?

  • UIScrollView - with paging enabled, can I "change" the page width?

    - by Mike McMaster
What's the simplest way to have a scroll view (with pagingEnabled set to YES) have a page width set to something other than the scroll view's bounds? Let me give an example. Suppose I have a scroll view with 10 items, each 150 pixels wide, and my scroll view is 300 pixels wide. If I start with views 1 and 2 visible and scroll horizontally to the right, I want the next "page" to show items 2 and 3. If I scroll one more page to the right, I would see items 3 and 4. Has anyone done this? If not, what strategy would you use?

  • Why do Scala maps have poor performance relative to Java?

    - by Mike Hanafey
I am working on a Scala app that consumes large amounts of CPU time, so performance matters. The prototype of the system was written in Python, and performance was unacceptable. The application does a lot with inserting and manipulating data in maps. Rex Kerr's Thyme was used to look at the performance of updating and retrieving data from maps. Basically "n" random Ints were stored in maps, and retrieved from the maps, with the time relative to java.util.HashMap used as a reference. The full results for a range of "n" are here. Sample (n=100,000) performance relative to java, smaller is worse: Update Read Mutable 16.06% 76.51% Immutable 31.30% 20.68% I do not understand why the scala immutable map beats the scala mutable map in update performance. Using the sizeHint on the mutable map does not help (it appears to be ignored in the tested implementation, 2.10.3). Even more surprisingly the immutable read performance is worse than the mutable read performance, more significantly so with larger maps. The update performance of the scala mutable map is surprisingly bad, relative to both scala immutable and plain Java. What is the explanation?

  • sorting a list of objects by value php

    - by Mike
    I have a list of objects: class Beer { var $name; var $id; var $style; var $brewery; var $rate; function getName() { return $this->name; } function getID() { return $this->id; } function getStyle() { return $this->style; } function getBrewery() { return $this->brewery; } function getRate() { return $this->rate; } } After doing some research online on how to accomplish this, this is my code: usort($localBeersList, "cmp"); function cmp($a, $b) { if ($a->getRate() == $b->getRate()) { return 0; } return ($a->getRate() < $b->getRate()) ? -1 : 1; } If I try and output my list after this I do not get anything.

  • Javascript parent and child window functions

    - by Mike Thornley
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML> <HEAD> <TITLE>Lab 9-3</TITLE> <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"> <!-- function myFunction(){ myWin = open("","","width=200,height=200"); with(myWin.document){ open(); write("<HTML><HEAD><TITLE>Child Window</TITLE>"); write("<SCRIPT>function myTest(){"); write("alert('This function is defined in the child window "); write("and is called from the parent window.'); this.focus();}"); write("</SCRIPT></HEAD><BODY><H3>Child Window</H3><HR>"); write("<FORM><INPUT TYPE='button' VALUE='parent window function' "); // Use opener property write("onClick='opener.winFunction();'>"); write("<P><INPUT TYPE='button' VALUE='close window' "); write("onClick='window.close();'>"); write("</FORM></BODY></HTML>"); close(); } } function winFunction(){ alert("This function is defined in the parent window\n" + "and is called from the child window."); myWin.focus(); } //--> </SCRIPT> </HEAD> <BODY> <H3>CIW Web Languages</H3> <HR> <FORM NAME="myForm"> <INPUT TYPE="button" VALUE="open new window" onClick="myFunction();"> <!-- Invoke child window function --> <input type="button" value="Click to open child window" onclick="javascript:void(myWin.myTest());"/> </FORM> <P> </BODY> </HTML> To explain further what my initial query was, the code above, should open the child window (myWin) with the second button, the 'Open child window' button without the need to open the window with the first button or do anything else. It should simply call the myWin.myTest()function The child window will open when the second button is pressed but needs to have the child window open first (first button push) before it'll work. This is not the intended purpose, the 'Open child window' button should work without anything else needing to be done. For some reason the parent window isn't communicating with the myWin window and myTest fucntion. It's not homework, it's part of a certification course lab and is coded in the manner I have been shown to understand as correct. DTD isn't included as the focus is the JavaScript. I code correctly with regards to that and other W3C requirements.

  • Submit button on nested form submits the outer form in IE7

    - by Mike Christensen
I have the following code on my Home.aspx page: <form id="frmJump" method="post" action="Views/ViewsHome.aspx"> <input name="JumpProject" /><input type="submit" value="Go" /> </form> However, when I click the "Go" button, the page posts back to Home.aspx rather than going to ViewsHome.aspx. I even tried adding some script to force the form to submit: <input name="JumpProject" onkeypress="if(event.keyCode == 13) { this.form.submit(); return false; }" /> But still even if I press ENTER, the Home.aspx page is reloaded. The only thing I can see that might be borking things is this form is actually a child form of the main POSTBACK form that ASP.NET injects into the page. I'm sure there's something stupid I'm missing and this post will get 800 downvotes instantly banishing me back into the n00b realm, but perhaps I haven't gotten enough sleep lately and I'm missing something stupid. This is on IE7 and an ASP.NET 4.0 backend. I also have jQuery libraries loaded on the page incase jQuery can improve this somehow. Thanks!

  • How can I retrieve the values of controls in the form that posted?

    - by Mike at KBS
I know this has got to be the simplest-sounding question ever asked about ASP.Net but I'm baffled. I have a form wherein my visitor will enter name, address, etc. Then I am POSTing that form via the PostBackUrl property of my Submit button to another page, where the fields are supposed to be all re-formed into new hidden fields, then POSTed again to Paypal. My problem is I cannot get at the values entered by the visitor in the original page. Any time I put in "runat='server'", ASP.Net completely changes the ID of the control, making it impossible to figure out how to access. In the POSTed form I tried Request.Form["_txtFirstName"] and that turned up null. Then I tried ((TextBox)PreviousPage.FindControl("_txtFirstName")).Text and that was null, too. I've tried variations on those. I cannot figure out how I'm supposed to get at these controls. Why does this stuff need to be so difficult?

  • Remove adjacent identical elements in a Ruby Array?

    - by Mike Woodhouse
    Ruby 1.8.6 I have an array containing numerical values. I want to reduce it such that sequences of the same value are reduced to a single instance of that value. So I want a = [1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3] to reduce to [1, 2, 3, 2, 3] As you can see, Array#uniq won't work in this case. I have the following, which works: (a.size - 1).downto(1) { |i| a[i] = nil if a[i - 1] == a[i] } Can anyone come up with something less ugly?

  • ASP.net debug hangs until I delete vbproj.user

    - by Mike Robertson
Intermittently when I start debugging a web application VS hangs (not responding). It will start OK if I run the appllication without debugging. When it has happened once it will do it every time until I delete the vbporj.user file. This problem appeared when I moved to Win7 64bit. I am using VS2008 Pro and everything is patched up to date. I am using the internal IIS7.

  • iphone - grouping UIImageViews x blocking elements

    - by Mike
I have to rotate several UIImageViews around a specific center. To accomplish this I am using the famous trick of putting these views as subviews of a larger one and rotating that one. The problem is that these subviews have to detect touches, because each one has buttons on it. The hierarchy is like this LARGE_VIEW | |_____ imageView1 | |_________ button1 | |_________ button2 | |_________ button3 | |_____ imageView2 |_________ button4 |_________ button5 |_________ button6 etc So, to make buttons respond to tap, I had to make this; [LARGE_VIEW setUserInteractionEnabled:YES]; [imageView1 setUserInteractionEnabled:YES]; [imageView2 setUserInteractionEnabled:YES]; ImageView1 and 2 are two vertical rows of buttons on each side of the screen. The problem is that there's another view below LARGE_VIEW and this view is not receiving the taps, because LARGE_VIEW is intercepting them first. I don't need LARGE_VIEW to detect any taps except on the two areas where imageView 1 and 2 are. LARGE_VIEW must let pass taps on the area defined by this rect (52, 0, 768-2*52, 1024). ImageView1 and 2 have this size: 52 pixels wide and 1024 pixels high (iPad). ImageView1's rect is: (0, 0, 52, 1024) and ImageView2's rect is: (768-52, 0, 52, 1024) LARGE_VIEW must let pass taps on the area defined by this rect (52, 0, 768-2*52, 1024). How to solve that? I need LARGE_VIEW detect taps on each rect defined on my previous paragraph and pass these taps to its subviews and just let pass taps outside these rects to the app, so other views BELOW, can detect taps too. thanks.

  • Codebase for making a Flash-based interactive map with SVG vector data?

    - by Mike
I'm looking for a way to take SVG path info (basically a string of coordinates) and dynamically draw it with Actionscript. Icing on the cake would be if those shapes could detect mouse events to trigger JS and dynamically change their appearance (fill, stroke, etc...). I'm currently trying something similar to this (http://raphaeljs.com/australia.html) using SVG but it's just too slow in IE. I've also tried Google's SVG Web (http://code.google.com/p/svgweb/) which basically does exactly what I'm looking for (it converts SVG to Flash in IE) but again, it's sloooooow - which is why I'm considering doing the whole shebang in Flash. Anyone know of some links to point me in the right direction?

  • Firefox proxy delima

    - by Mike L.
Any idea why when using system proxy settings in firefox, it can not accept a proxy such as: user:[email protected]:port ??? IE will allow and connect to a proxy in this format. Not only does firefox not work, but it does not prompt for the password, nor attempt to make a connection to the proxy. Basically get a "proxy server not found" error. Anybody know a way around this? I am working on a proxy switching program for IE & Firefox, and I would like to use system-wide proxy settings. If I just store the server:port combination, firefox prompts for the password, as well as IE. Then they can be cached and it will not ask again. Maybe my only option is to programmatically cache the user/pass? Anybody know a way to do this? I am pretty sure IE stores them at HTTP basic authentication passwords and I can add them with AddCredential. After saving a password for a proxy in firefox, it shows up in saved passwords in a format like "moz-proxy://server:port" anybody know how to programmatically add a saved password to firefox? Thanks

  • unix shell, redirect output but keep on stdin

    - by Mike
I'd like to have a shell script redirect stdout of a child process in the following manner Redirect stdout to a file Display the output of the process in real time I know I could do something like #!/bin/sh ./child > file cat file But that would not display stdout in real time. For instance, if the child was #!/bin/sh echo 1 sleep 1 echo 2 The user would see "1" and "2" printed at the same time
