  • Windows 7 doesn't start anymore

    Hi, I've experienced some BSOD on windows 7 RC, and some freezing when startup, but today was big surprise, it doesn't start anymore. I tried to start on safe mode and no results too, it shows the starting animation, then a blue screen for less than a second and turns off immediately. The only thing I remember did today is update flash player under Firefox, then chrome stopped working even after logging off, and once restarting, it doesn't start anymore. Anyone experienced the same issue? any hints? [EDIT 3] Solved : Windows 7 have a very smart repair strategy, it works automatically, and it tried every possible fix, what fixed my problem was the system restore to a previous date, all this happened automatically.   • Secondary monitor bug: a problem in WPF or in the graphics driver?

    I have discovered a strange bug with my WPF application and I am trying to determine whether it is a problem with WPF or my graphics driver so that I can report it to the appropriate company. I have a Quadro FX 1700 with the latest drivers (197.54) on a Windows XP system, running a .NET 3.5 SP1 application. I have dual monitors, and when I maximize then minimize a child window of the main window on my primary monitor, the child window gets drawn on the secondary monitor as well. It appears in both places. I made a sample application (code is below) which induces this behavior. Start the application and ensure the main window is on your primary monitor. Double-click the main window. A green child window should appear. Click the green child window to maximize. Click the green child window to minimize. Can anyone else reproduce this problem? On my system the green child restores, but then it's drawn on both my primary and secondary monitors, rather than just the primary monitor.   • How can I get the printer shares on a print server using Powershell?

    I'm trying to use Powershell to get the print shares from a remote print server. I'm using: Get-WmiObject Win32_Share -computerName "print-server" I'm getting an "access denied" error: Get-WmiObject : Access is denied.   • pdf creation software, for docx and odt

    Ok, I have a fairly large collection of docx and odt files. Minutes from meetings etc. Now I want to convert them to pdfs for distrobution. and also into one combined pdf. At the momement I'm using Adobe Acrobat 8 (Pro iirc). and on another machine I'm using foxit pdf printer. To do this I have to print them each individually to pdfs. and then I can combine them with Acrobat, cos acrobat doesn't support conversion stright from docx or odt to pdf - only via printing. Now this is annoying if you have to do it on a regular basis, since i don't keep the pdfs around (I have the orignals source controlled :-D) cos they go out of date pretty quick as I often have to go back and modify old versions (like ridiculously often). e Eg When I find out I've got something in the minutes wrong or I want to add more context for clarifaction. Anyone got a better solution?

    We currently have a printer server which also serves as a file server. The server is located on premise however is not close to any wired access point i.e. a patch panel or point. The server also requires access to the Internet as it transmits files across. We have a wireless modem and a wireless router. I can run a cable between the server and wireless router. How can I have the wireless router communicate with the wireless modem? If the operating system of the server is concerned, it is running Windows Server 2003.

    i have one windows 2008 server & windows xp clients. one HP2600n is connected to network with network cable, and installed in server and shared. also same printer is shared on xp cleints. the problem is: once cleints send print it come to the server que and stuck there untill we manually restart printer spooler service. once we restart the service all the prints in QUE prints and after that new prints again stuck in QUE till next manually restart. how can we solve this problem?   • Dosbox USB print Windows 8.1 64Bit

    Worked fine until I've upgraded to Windows 8.1 as well as made the mail programm working (had to get a windows live ID and have to type in a password now, when starting Windows). I did set the USB printer to lpt1 on the local Windows 8 computer and another XP computer via LAN to lpt2 the same way with the same printer on the Windows 8 computer. But now it doesn't work anymore from the Win8 one (where the printer is plugged via USB). Tried already deleting lpt2: on the XP one, as well as lpt1 on the Windows 8, resetted it. Not working... :-( I tried also net use lpt1: \server\printer password "\user:Ute Berger" /persistent:yes of course with the correct server and shared printer name as well as net use \server\printer "\user:Ute Berger" password /persistent:yes . This is the name displayed as a user now. But in C:\users it is named Benutzer1. Tried this one also. Nothing worked. What could be the problem here? What's strange is that when I type "net use lpt1:" on the XP, I get another error (67 - The networkname wasn't found) than trying something I didn't set up like lpt2 (2 - The system can't find the file). Could this be a possible problem as even if deleted something is left blocking on the Windows 8 computer? Please help me - I tried for hours today but all I've got was frustration... Regards Tim

  • Modify PATH variable for X11 during log-in

    I am working on some lab computers (read: no administrative rights) that, if I log in, I need to change the PATH variable as X11 starts. The reason is that I need to change the PATH variable at this time, as opposed to later, is that the Print Screen command seems to "bind" during login (forgive my bad explanation of this). Currently, I have a .bashrc script as a workaround: #!/bin/bash export PATH=/home/username/bin:$PATH I can make it work by starting a new X, but I was wondering if it is possible to change upon login. cat /etc/redhat-release tells me my distribution is: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Client release 5.8 (Tikanga)

    I've got a HP LaserJet 1020 printer connected to my 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate machine. I'm sharing this printer out. Got another 64-bit Windows 7 machine, with Home Premium. I installed the printer driver from HP for 64-bit on both machines. However, the strange thing is that if the Home Premium machine prints something, it never comes out unless I reboot the Ultimate machine. This is less than optimal. Any idea what's causing this and if there's anything I can do about it?

Am I being neurotic in trying to find a way to optimize this? I may be working on a function and put in a half-dozen or so of those lines, figure out why it's not working, and then cut them out again. Have you developed an efficient way of doing that? I'm coding Python in Emacs.
