  • How to share classes between DLLs

    - by Jamie Hale
I have an unmanaged Win32 C++ application that uses multiple C++ DLLs. The DLLs each need to use class Foo - definition and implementation. Where do Foo.h and Foo.cpp live so that the DLLs link and don't end up duplicating code in memory? Is this a reasonable thing to do?

  • Remote DLL Registration without access to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT

    - by mohlsen
We have a legacy VB6 application that updates itself on startup by pulling down the latest files and registering the COM components. This works for both local (regsvr32) ActiveX COM Components and remote (clireg32) ActiveX COM components registered in COM+ on another machine. New requirements are preventing us from writing to HKEY_LOACL_MACHINE (HKLM) for security reasons, which is what obviously happens by default when calling regsvr32 and clireg32. We have come up with an way to register the local COM componet under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes (HKCU) using the RegOverridePredefKey Windows API method. This works by redirecting the inserts into the registry to the HKCU location. Then when the COM components are instantiated, windows first looks to HKCU before looking for component information in HKLM. This replaces what regsvr32 is doing. The problem we are experiencing at this time is when we attempt to register VBR / TLB using clireg32, this registration process also adds registration keys to HKEY_LOACL_MACHINE. Is there a way to redirect clireg32.exe to register component is HKEY_CURRENT_USER? Are there any other methods that would allow us to register these COM+ components on clients machine with limited security access? Our only solution at this time would be to manually write the registration information to the registry, but that is not ideal and would be a maint issue.

  • COM OCX registration - 2 DLL's with same name

    - by Tony
Hi, I have a native app that has an .OCX file that needs to be registered for it to be used in a .NET application. Now currently there's different versions of this .OCX on the machine. Can someone please explain how this can affect the registration of this new (updated) .OCX file registration? And how does my .NET app know which object to create from which .OCX file?

  • Far jump in ntdll.dll's internal ZwCreateUserProcess

    - by user49164
I'm trying to understand how the Windows API creates processes so I can create a program to determine where invalid exes fail. I have a program that calls kernel32.CreateProcessA. Following along in OllyDbg, this calls kernel32.CreateProcessInternalA, which calls kernel32.CreateProcessInternalW, which calls ntdll.ZwCreateUserProcess. This function goes: mov eax, 0xAA xor ecx, ecx lea edx, dword ptr [esp+4] call dword ptr fs:[0xC0] add esp, 4 retn 0x2C So I follow the call to fs:[0xC0], which contains a single instruction: jmp far 0x33:0x74BE271E But when I step this instruction, Olly just comes back to ntdll.ZwCreateUserProcess at the add esp, 4 right after the call (which is not at 0x74BE271E). I put a breakpoint at retn 0x2C, and I find that the new process was somehow created during the execution of add esp, 4. So I'm assuming there's some magic involved in the far jump. I tried to change the CS register to 0x33 and EIP to 0x74BE271E instead of actually executing the far jump, but that just gave me an access violation after a few instructions. What's going on here? I need to be able to delve deeper beyond the abstraction of this ZwCreateUserProcess to figure out how exactly Windows creates processes.

  • Difficulties getting GraphViz working as a library in C++

    - by DistortedLojik
Am working on a program that will allow a graph of nodes to be displayed and then updated visually as the nodes themselves are updated. I am fairly new to Visual Studio 2010 and am following the GraphViz guide located at http://www.graphviz.org/pdf/libguide.pdf in order to get GraphViz working as a library. I have the following code which is taken straight from the pdf linked above. #include <graphviz\gvc.h> #include <graphviz\cdt.h> #include <graphviz\graph.h> #include <graphviz\pathplan.h> using namespace std; int main(int argc, char **argv) { Agraph_t *g; Agnode_t *n, *m; Agedge_t *e; Agsym_t *a; GVC_t *gvc; /* set up a graphviz context */ gvc = gvContext(); /* parse command line args - minimally argv[0] sets layout engine */ gvParseArgs(gvc, argc, argv); /* Create a simple digraph */ g = agopen("g", AGDIGRAPH); n = agnode(g, "n"); m = agnode(g, "m"); e = agedge(g, n, m); /* Set an attribute - in this case one that affects the visible rendering */ agsafeset(n, "color", "red", ""); /* Compute a layout using layout engine from command line args */ gvLayoutJobs(gvc, g); /* Write the graph according to -T and -o options */ gvRenderJobs(gvc, g); /* Free layout data */ gvFreeLayout(gvc, g); /* Free graph structures */ agclose(g); /* close output file, free context, and return number of errors */ return (gvFreeContext(gvc)); } After compiling I get the following errors which indicate that I do not have it correctly linked. 1>main.obj : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _gvFreeContext referenced in function _main 1>main.obj : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _agclose referenced in function _main 1>main.obj : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _gvFreeLayout referenced in function _main 1>main.obj : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _gvRenderJobs referenced in function _main 1>main.obj : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _gvLayoutJobs referenced in function _main 1>main.obj : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _agsafeset referenced in function _main 1>main.obj : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _agedge referenced in function _main 1>main.obj : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _agnode referenced in function _main 1>main.obj : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _agopen referenced in function _main 1>main.obj : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _gvParseArgs referenced in function _main 1>main.obj : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _gvContext referenced in function _main Within the VC++ Directories I have C:\Program Files (x86)\Graphviz2.26.3\include in the Include Directories and C:\Program Files (x86)\Graphviz2.26.3\lib\release\lib in the Library Directories Any help would be greatly appreciated to help get this working. • How to analyze dump file from delphi dll?

    - by Yann
I'm an escalation engineer on a product which use both c# and delphi 2006 code. In most cases c# issues are debugged with windbg and delphi 2006 issues with eurekalog. But when the issue is a delphi memory usage, eurekalog doesn't give enough information to fix the issue and the only thing i have to debug it is a full memory dump file. I cannot (or i don't know how to) load symbol file in windbg because it is a .map file and not a .pdb file. So my questions are: Does anyone know how to load symbol from .map file in windbg? (Converting .map to .pdb or other) Does anyone know a tool to analyze dump file for delphi application?

  • Is it possible to compile IronRuby code to a .NET assembly (EXE or DLL)

    - by Chris Ammerman
My scenario consists of the following points. I have a packaged software product I am developing in C# Since it is a packaged product, the public interfaces of the assemblies need to be tightly controlled... All assemblies are strong-named Any classes that don't absolutely have to be "public" are "internal" I want to write unit tests for those "internal" classes, since they are the bulk of the code And finally.... I want to try writing the unit tests in Ruby. Since the unit tests would be external to the assembly containing the code under test, the assemblies under test would each need to have an "InternalsVisibleTo" attribute specifying the name of the unit test assembly. Which of course would mean that the Ruby unit tests would have to compile down to a .NET assembly so they can be given access in this way. Can this be done? If so, how? All I can find on the web about "compiling IronRuby" is about building the actual IronRuby runtime from source.

  • How does the Garbage Collector decide when to kill objects held by WeakReferences?

    - by Kennet Belenky
I have an object, which I believe is held only by a WeakReference. I've traced its reference holders using SOS and SOSEX, and both confirm that this is the case (I'm not an SOS expert, so I could be wrong on this point). The standard explanation of WeakReferences is that the GC ignores them when doing its sweeps. Nonetheless, my object survives an invocation to GC.Collect(GC.MaxGeneration, GCCollectionMode.Forced). Is it possible for an object that is only referenced with a WeakReference to survive that collection? Is there an even more thorough collection that I can force? Or, should I re-visit my belief that the only references to the object are weak?

  • Problem getting correct parameters for C# P/Invoke call to C++ dll

    - by Jim Jones
Trying to Interop a functionality from the Outside In API from Oracle. Have the following function: SCCERR EXOpenExport {VTHDOC hDoc, VTDWORD dwOutputId, VTDWORD dwSpecType, VTLPVOID pSpec, VTDWORD dwFlags, VTSYSPARAM dwReserved, VTLPVOID pCallbackFunc, VTSYSPARAM dwCallbackData, VTLPHEXPORT phExport); From the header files I reduced the parameters to: typedef VTSYSPARAM VTHDOC, VTLPHDOC * typedef DWORD_PTR VTSYSPARAM typedef unsigned long DWORD_PTR typedef unsigned long VTDWORD typedef VTVOID* VTLPVOID #define VTVOID void typedef VTHDOC VTHEXPORT, *VTLPEXPORT These are for 32 bit windows Going through the header files, the example programs, and the documentation I found: 1. That pSpec could be a pointer to a buffer or NULL, so I set it to a IntPtr.Zero (documentation). 2. That dwFlags and dwReserved according to the documentation "Must be set by the developer to 0". 3. That pCallbackFunc can be set to NULL if I don't want to handle callbacks. 4. That the last two are based on structs that I wrote C# wrappers for using the [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential)]. Then instatiated an instance and generated the parameters by first creating a IntPtr with Marshal.AllocHGlobal(Marshal.SizeOf(instance)), then getting the address value which is passed as a uint for dwCallbackData and a IntPtr for phExport. The final parameter list is as follows: 1. phDoc as a IntPtr which was loaded with an address by the DAOpenDocument function called before. 2. dwOutputId as uint set to 1535 which represents FI_JPEGFIF 3. dwSpecType as int set to 2 which represents IOTYPE_ANSIPATH 4. pSpec as an IntPtr.Zero where the output will be written 5. dwFlags as uint set to 0 as directed 6. dwReserved as uint set to 0 as directed 7. pCallbackFunc as IntPtr set to NULL as I will handle results 8. dwCallBackDate as uint the address of a buffer for a struct 9. phExport as IntPtr to another struct buffer still get an undefined error from the API. Meaning that the call returns a 961 which is not defined in any of the header files. In the past I have gotten this when my choice of parameter types are incorrect. I started out using Interop Assistant which was helpful in learning how many of the parameter types get translated. It is however limited by how well I am able to glean the correct native type from the header files. For example the hDoc parameter used in the preceding function was defined as a non-filesytem handle, so attempted to use Marshal to create a handle, then used an IntPtr, and finally it turned out to be an int (actually it was &phDoc used here). So is there a more scientific way of doing this, other than trial and error? Jim

  • ASP.NET application developed in 32 bit environment not working in 64 bit environment

    - by jgonchik
We have developed an ASP.NET website on a Windows 7 - 32 bit platform using Visual Studio 2008. This website is being hosted at a hosting company where we share a server with hundreds of other ASP.NET websites. We are in the process of changing our hosting to a dedicated Windows 2008 - 64 bit server. We have installed Visual Studio on this new server in order to debug our application. If we try to start the application on this new server using Visual Studios 2008's own web server (not IIS 7) we get the error below. We have tried to compile the application in both 32 as well as 64 bit mode. We also tried to compile to "Any CPU". But nothing helps. We also tried running Visual Studio as an administrator but without success. We get the following error: Server Error in '/' Application. The specified module could not be found. • R6034: An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.

    - by mattias
I am getting this R6034 error when running program that I just updated (and cleaned) from VS2003 - VS2008. To be more exact: "R6034: An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly." It seems to happed almost at the same place all the time when running. I have no really idea why but I tried some suggestions I found when googleing this. For example adding the msvc dlls, but that didn't work. Any help on why this error occurs would be great. Thanks

  • how to push a string address to stack with assembly, machine code

    - by Yigit
Hi all, I am changing minesweeper.exe in order to have an understanding of how code injection works. Simply, I want the minesweeper to show a message box before starting. So, I find a "cave" in the executable and then define the string to show in messagebox and call the messagebox. Additionally of course, I have to change the value at module entry point of the executable and first direct it to my additional code, then continue its own code. So at the cave what I do; "hello starbuck",0 push 0 //arg4 of MessageBoxW function push the address of my string //arg3, must be title push the address of my string //arg2, must be the message push 0 //arg1 call MessageBoxW ... Now since the memory addresses of codes in the executable change everytime it is loaded in the memory, for calling the MessageBoxW function, I give the offset of the address where MessageBoxW is defined in Import Address Table. For instance, if MessageBoxW is defined at address1 in the IAT and the instruction just after call MessageBoxW is at address2 instead of writing call MessageBoxW, I write call address2 - address1. So my question is, how do I do it for pushing the string's address to the stack? For example, if I do these changes via ollydbg, I give the immediate address of "hello starbuck" for pushing and it works. But after reloading the executable or starting it outside of ollydbg, it naturally fails, since the immediate addresses change. Thanks in advance, Yigit.

  • COM-Objects containing maps / content error(0)

    - by Florian Berzsenyi
    I'm writing a small wrapper to get familiar with some important topics in C++ (WinAPI, COM, STL,OOP). For now, my class shall be able to create a (child) window. Mainly, this window is connected to a global message loop that distribute messages to a local loop of the right instance (global is static, local is virtual). Obviously, there are surely better ways to do that but I'm using std::maps to store HWND and their instance pointer in pairs (the Global loop looks for the pointer with the HWND-parameter, gets itself the pointer from the map and calls then the local loop). Now, it appears that the map does not accept any values because of a unknown reason. It seems to allocate enough space but something went wrong anyway [ (error) 0 is displayed instead of the entries in visual C++). I've looked that up in google as well and found out that maps cause some trouble when used in classes AND DLLs. May this be the reason and is there any solution?? Protected scope of class: static std::map<HWND,MAP_BASE_OBJECT*> m_LoopBuf Implementation in .cpp-file: std::map<HWND,MAP_BASE_OBJECT*> HWindow::m_LoopBuf;

  • How to load a library that depends on another library, all from a jar file

    - by Philip
I would like to ship my application as a self-contained jar file. The jar file should contain all the class files, as well as two shared libraries. One of these shared libraries is written for the JNI and is essentially an indirection to the other one (which is 100% C). I have first tried running my jar file without the libraries, but having them accessible through the LD_LIBRARY_PATH environment variable. That worked fine. I then put the JNI library into the jar file. I have read about loading libraries from jar files by copying them first to some temporary directory, and that worked well for me (note that the 100% C library was, I suppose, loaded as before). Now I want to put both libraries into the jar, but I don't understand how I can make sure that they will both be loaded. Sure I can copy them both to a temporary directory, but when I load the "indirection" one, it always gives me: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /tmp/.../libindirect.so: /libpure.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I've tried to force the JVM to load the "100% C" library first by explicitely calling System.load(...) on its temporary file, but that didn't work better. I suspect the system is looking for it when resolving the links in libindirect.so but doesn't care about what the JVM loaded. Can anyone help me on that one? Thanks
