• vs2008 mystery: Quick macro record and playback shortcuts not allowed?

  in vs2008, Tools, Macros, Record TemporaryMacro keyboard shortcut toggle is Ctrl+Shift+R; Run TemporaryMacro keyboard shorcut is Ctrl+Shift+P for playback. I've used them before, but they've stopped working. If I open Tools, Options, Keyboard, then navigate to a command like Tools.Run that has no assigned keyboard shortcut, I can experiment by pretending to assign a keyboard shorcut: I simply click inside the "Press shortcut keys:" textbox and try different keystroke combinations. Examples: Ctrl+p: currently assigned to File.Print Ctrl+r: currently assigned to various uses Ctrl+Shift+Q: available Ctrl+Shift+B: currently assigned to Build.BuildSolution BUT vs2008 will not even allow me to type either of Ctrl+Shift+P or Ctrl+Shift+R in the "Press shortcut keys:" textbox. When I type those combinations, nothing appears in the "Press shortcut keys:" textbox. Please note: I can record and playback a temporary macro by using the menu commands, however, the mouse is like a turtle when compared to the keyboard. • Returning partial address matches and mismatch position using L2S or SQL

  I need to implement a method that takes an address split up into individual parts and returns any matching items from an address table. If no matches are found, I want to be able to return a value indicating where it failed. Each input param has a corresponding field in the table. The signature would look something like this: List<Address> MatchAddress(string zipCode, string streetName, string houseNumber, string houseLetter, string floor, string appartmentNo, out int mismatchPosition) { // return matching addresses // if none found, return the position where it stopped matching // zipCode is position 0, appartmentNo is position 5 // // an empty param value indicates "don't check" } I know I can construct the method such that I start with all the parameters, execute the query and then remove param by param (from the right side) until either a match is found or I run out of parameters, but can I construct a query that is more effective than that, i.e minimizing the number of calls to the db, maybe even as a single call?

• Maven 2.1.0 not passing on system properties to Java virtual machine

  We use the command line to pass on system properties to the Java virtual machine when running our Hudson builds on a Linux box. It used to work quite well in 2.0.9 by since we upgraded to 2.1.0 it has stopped working altogether. The system properties just never make it to the Java virtual machine. I have created a small test project and indeed it does not work at all. I have attached it in case you want to give it a go. • Xml files stop being served by IIS6 after allowing .net to process the .xml extension

  I added a route into my site to allow for a sitemap and everything worked fine in IIS7 but once I deployed the route stopped working. Since the live server is running IIS6 I needed to put a new mapping in for .xml to be processed by .net and then it started to work. My issue though is on every other xml file on the site now. I keep getting a 404 error when trying to view xml files, but the sitemap.xml route works. Is this a routing issue or an IIS setup issue?   Hi , I am doing a web application in ZF + Doctrine 1.2.3 but i had an old database , it had pretty good structure so i think i can reverse engineer it with doctrine commad ./dcotrine generate-models-db , its amazing but i stopped when i wanted to use some doctrine behaviors like : searchable as an example , my question : if i went to my model and added these two lines : $this->actAs('Searchable', array( 'fields' => array('title', 'content') ) ); i am not sure if that enough and would work as expected , if you had any more tips about creating other behaviors like (versionable , i18n , sluggable or soft delete ) manually or reverse engineer it with doctrine behaviors , could you please list them

• zend framework can't find Model classes ?

  Yall: I have a simple question, it might be a simple configuration issue, but I have a Model defined, and when I try to access it from a controller it fails. The Model is in the model directory, and when I look at the quickstart app, it seems like this should work. • iPad/iPhone uiSearchbar transparent background

  I know this questions was asked(and solved) before, but this wont work for me. as a matter of fact, I had it already solved, but this issue came back out of nowhere and struck me on the head. I am not able to set the background of my UISearchBar transparent. I was always using: searchBar.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; [[searchBar.subviews objectAtIndex:0] removeFromSuperview]; and it worked nicely... but suddenly it stopped. could be since I upgraded my xcode-version but I am not sure. I spent a couple of hours already investigating this.. Is somebody out there to do this? please point me in the right direction. thanks heaps!!! best regards T

  I'm trying to display a video in my sdcard on the video view. Here is my code: String name = Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory() + "/test.mp4"; final VideoView videoView = (VideoView)findViewById(R.id.videoView1); videoView.setOnPreparedListener(new MediaPlayer.OnPreparedListener() { public void onPrepared(MediaPlayer arg0) { videoView.start(); } }); videoView.setVideoPath(name); The file I am trying to open is called test.mp4 and its located within the sdcard folder. I get an error saying the application has unfortunately stopped. I would appreciate it if someone could help me. Thanks. EDIT : I used the debugger and found out that I get an InvocationTargetException. The detailed message says that : Failure delivering result ResultInfo{who=null, request=1001, result=-1, data=Intent { dat=file:///mnt/sdcard/test.mp4 }} to activity : java.lang.NullPointerException EDIT : I looked at the logcat again and it seems to give the error at videoView.setOnPreparedListener(new MediaPlayer.OnPreparedListener() { I'm guessing either videoView or MediaPlayer is null.

  Hi, Can any one tell me when this error occurs . I suspect this is coming when added any new js in Grails . • Visual Studio 2008. MFC event wizard broken

  OK, so it's almost a programming question - The VS2008 dialog event wizard has stopped working. Double-clicking on a button in an MFC dialog project does not fire the wizard as usual and a right-click to get to the 'Add Event Handler...' shows a dialog with no message types. Further to this the MFC message mapping and virtual class listing that generally appears in the properties window (Alt + Enter) is now empty. Has anyone elese seen this and if so, how'd they fix it? I have 'repaired' my VS08 installation ... Thx++ Jerry

  Hi All I have J2SE application running in linux. I have stop application script in which i am doing kill of the J2SE pid. This J2SE application has 6 infinitely running user threads,which will be polling for some specific records in backend DB. When this java pid is killed, I need to perform some cleanup operations for each of the long running thread, like connecting to DB and set status of some transactions which are in-progress to empty. Is there a way to write a method in each of the thread, which will be called when the thread is going to be stopped, by JVM.

• Silverlight 4 NewBie Question

  I am watching a video from Silverlight.net website about DataForm. There is no source code download, so I am typing in the code as I watch the video. Unfortunately I can't replicate what is shown in the video. there are several issues. I am going to list out only the first 2 1) The presenter shows a simple class inside DataForm that has a icon at the very top of the data form that upon clicking it makes the DataForm editable and a save button appears at the bottom. I did'nt get the same thing when I ran my code against Silverlight 4 or Silverlight 3 2) Than he goes on to show that if you mark your class [Bindable(false)] you shouldn't see anything in your page. I did that but my form still shows all the properties I stopped after these 2 issues. If the features being talked about in this video were deprecated in the final release than this video should have been taken off the site. can anyone help me with this??

• multiple jQuery Cycle slideshows get superimposed

  I'm using the jQuery cycle plugin to create multiple slideshows on a single page (which, once I get this problem figured out, will be started/stopped by mouse hover -- yeah, I know there are 9 slideshows on the page). Problem is, when I tell more than one slideshow to start cycling, whichever ones I call cycle() on get superimposed. So, all the images from slide 1 are superimposed, then they all transition to slide 2, etc. I can tell they're being superimposed because the first slide of each slideshow contains a transparent PNG. This happens whether I call cycle() in a jQuery each() iterator, or even if I call it by hand on just two or three of the containers with a jQuery id selector.   hello, i have a mathematical problem: i have a function where the only parameter is the current time. the return should be a position which is used to place an object on a certain place. int position(int time) { int x = 0; //TODO implement x depending on time return x; } so basically the function is called every frame to put the object in motion. the motion should look like this (this is the actual question): a linear motion for time A, the object moves at constant speed no motion for time B, the object is stopped repeat at 1. thanks!

  I'm finding that autotest has stopped working... $ autotest loading autotest/rails Autotest style autotest/rails doesn't seem to exist. Aborting. According to this blog post, the common reason for this error is that people don't have the autotest-rails gem installed. However, I definitely have that installed: autotest-rails (4.1.0) ZenTest (4.1.4, 4.1.3, 4.1.1, 4.0.0, 3.11.1, 3.11.0, 3.10.0, 3.9.3, 3.9.2) I haven't installed any new gems today or yesterday, though I might have done a gem update yesterday. Another issue I saw mentioned was incompatibility with Ruby 1.9, but I'm using MRI Ruby 1.8.6.

• Issue with converting PDF pages to images with ImageMagick's convert (and PHP)

  I'm trying to create a small web service to convert PDF files to a series of images. When I run convert /full/path/to/source.pdf full/path/to/target.jpg when connected to the (shared hosting, Linux) server via ssh, everything works correctly. When executing the same command through PHP's exec() function, only the first few pages of the PDF file get converted. Sometimes the remaining pages are 0-length jpg files, sometimes they don't appear at all. Also, the bottom area of the first pages is sometimes black, as if convert stopped half-way on the page. What could be causing this problem?

• Mysqld Crashes immediately on running on Windows 7...?

  I am trying to run MySql 5.1 on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I have downloaded the MSI installer from the MYSql website and installed it. The installation is successful, but the service does not start. If I try to run MySql manually using the mysqld executable, it crashes immediately on running (error: mysqld.exe has stopped working). Earlier mysql was running on the machine, but I had some problem with it (wasn't executing big queries) and installed it again which somehow broke the program. I had installed it to work as a service which started giving me this isse, and now it won't work even if I don't install it as a service. I have tried removing the mysql folder and re-installing. Is there somewhere else where Mysql saves configuration info or other data? Has anyone else found this problem and solved it? How can I find out why the process is failing to run?

• Can "\Device\NamedPipe\\Win32Pipes" handles cause "Too many open files" error?

  Continuing from this question: When I am trying to do fopen on Windows, I get a "Too many open files" error. I tried to analyze, how many open files I have, and seems like not too much. But when I executed Process Explorer, I noticed that I have many open handles with similar names: "\Device\NamedPipe\Win32Pipes.00000590.000000e2", "\Device\NamedPipe\Win32Pipes.00000590.000000e3", etc. I see that the number of these handles is exactly equal to the number of the iterations that my program executed, before it returned "Too many open files" and stopped. I am looking for an answer, what are these handles, and could they actually cause the "Too many open files" error? In my program I am loading files from remote drive, and I am creating TCP/IP connections. Could one of these operations create these handles?

• my server suddenly crashes every 2 days or so. Programmer has no idea, please help find the cause, here is the top

  Every couple of days my server suddenly crashes and I must request hardware reset at data center to get it back running. Today I came back to my shell and saw the server was dead and "top" was running on it, and see below for the "top" right before the crash. I opened /var/log/messages and scrolled to the reboot time and see nothing, no errors prior to the hard reboot. (I checked in /etc/syslog.conf and I see "*.info;mail.none;authpriv.none;cron.none /var/log/messages" , isn't this good enough to log all problems?) Usually when I look at the top, the swap is never used up like this! I also don't know why mysqld is at 323% cpu (server only runs drupal and its never slow or overloaded). Solver is my application. I don't know whats that 'sh' doing and 'dovecot' doing.   We are in the process of creating active-x controls used within our application. Since Microsoft stopped supporting classic Visual Basic, is it wise to use Visual Basic to develop the Active X control or the latest VC++/ATL/MFC libraries provide more feature where we can create controls faster by leaving Visual Basic flexibility? We will not be able to use .NET/VB.NET/C# since the application is supposed to work inside containers and containers may not support latest .NET runtime. Any other language is best fit for Active X control development other than VB and VC++?

• Why are my Opteron cores running at only 75% capacity each? (25% CPU idle)

  We've just taken delivery of a powerful 32-core AMD Opteron server with 128Gb. We have 2 x 6272 CPU's with 16 cores each. We are running a big long-running java task on 30 threads. We have the NUMA optimisations for Linux and java turned on. Our Java threads are mainly using objects that are private to that thread, sometimes reading memory that other threads will be reading, and very very occasionally writing or locking shared objects. We can't explain why the CPU cores are 25% idle. I had trouble finding a clear explanation of what 'top' means by "idle" versus "wait", but I get the impression that "idle" means "no more threads that need to be run" but this doesn't make sense in our case. We're using a "Executors.newFixedThreadPool(30)". There are a large number of tasks pending and each task lasts for 10 seconds or so. I suspect that the explanation requires a good understanding of NUMA. Is the "idle" state what you see when a CPU is waiting for a non-local access? If not, then what is the explanation?

• What does xp_qv do in SQL Server?

  Last night one of our SQL servers developed some major problems and after a colleague stopped, started, and all the usual things it started checking and rebuilding databases and is now running an extended stored procedure called "xp_qv". The internet seems to be very short of information on what this procedure does or anythign like that so I was hoping somebody here might be able to help. I should add that I assume it is meant to be running so the question isn't "Can I stop it" or anything like that, its just curiosity in what it is doing in the hope that it will help determine how long before things are usable again...
