  This isn't exactly Fermat's last theorem, but it keeps coming back to annoy me like an unpaid phone bill from college. Sometimes I want to create a HyperLink that does not cause a postback, so I want the target url to be #. When the markup happens to be from a UserControl in a subfolder, / |- Home.aspx (uses UC.ascx) |- Sub |- UC.ascx the URL is rewritten with a relative path, e.g. <asp:HyperLink runat="server" NavigateUrl="#" >Click Me!</asp:HyperLink> becomes <a href="SubFolder/#">Click Me!</a> Which is, unfortunately, wrong. Obviously I can get around this by not using a server control, but it seems stupid. Can this be avoided? The point here is I will add a click event with jQuery or in code-behind, and I never want it to cause a postback, but I want it to be a hyperlink for CSS reasons.

• Can someone tell me why my dataset wont save correctly to the database in simple winforms app?

  I have been struggling with this all day and I know it is probably something stupid. My code is below. If I call save then exit my program and start again I can save images to my events but if I just call save when I try to add an image and call save again I get a foreign key error. From what I know I thought my save method was updating the database from my dataset so the event associated with the image should exist. Anyway here is my save method... Private Sub Save() Me.Validate() EventsBindingSource.EndEdit() ImagesBindingSource.EndEdit() TableAdapterManager.UpdateAll(EventDataSet) EventDataSet.AcceptChanges() End Sub Am I doing this wrong? • How to load the whole content of a page into another window?

  I'm building a Dashboard and for some stupid reasons my boss wants to load it in a frame on the homepage (yes a frame, he still lives in the 1990s). Anyway, sometimes the dashboard needs some room so that it can show all charts correctly, so I want to add a feature to load the content of the dashboard into a new window. The problem is that, if the user has had some interaction with the dashboard, it will contain modal dialogs, new images, etc... so I want to load all the dashboard content into a new window without reloading its content. Of course, the user should be able to continue browsing the dashboard without problems. How can I do that? I'm using jQuery as my JavaScript framework.

• Cross Domain Cookies Problem (ASP.NET)

  Hi guys, i have a problem with cross-domain cookies. I read a lot of documentation about sharing cookies between subdomains. The main idea of all articles is set Domain property to something like ".mydomain.com". I've created two domains on local IIS server - test1.local.boo and test2.local.boo. They works great and visible with browser. I have the following code: Site test1 - Writes cookie: HttpCookie myCookie = new HttpCookie("TestCookie"); myCookie.Domain = ".local.boo"; myCookie["msg"] = "Welcome from Cookie"; Response.Cookies.Add(myCookie); Site test2 - Reads cookie: HttpCookie cookie = Request.Cookies["TestCookie"]; if (cookie != null) { Response.Write(cookie["msg"]); } else { Response.Write("FAILED"); } This code always shows FAILED message. So it means that second site can't read cookie from the same subdomain. Where is my mistake??

  Hello, I had one page in Views in CakePHP, it have normal javascript block, Just inserted: <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"> ---code--- </script> Inside page, and it was all working okay... But now... It doesn't show... How can I change configuration or something to enable showing javascript blocks without CakePHP commands. Javascript needs data from that page so I can't use outer file, and it's too long to use $javascript-codeBlock Is there any way to reconfigure stupid CakePHP to start showing those blocks? Some files are showing javascript, and it's working all okay, but some of them won't show... Please help...

  Just a stupid question. I could try it out in 2 minutes, really. It's just that I have 1 GB RAM and have already got 2 instances of VS 2010 open on my desktop, with an instance of VS 2005, too. Opening another instance of VS 2010 would be an over kill. Can I have a type (for now forgetting its semantics) that can be covariant as well as contravariant? • Rscript does not recognize setGeneric function

  I am trying to convert an R script into something that a client can run in batch mode. My code uses generic functions and one snippet which is near the beginning goes like: setGeneric("testInput", function(inputData, params = list()) standardGeneric("testInput")) I've been using R CMD BATCH and it works fine. However I couldn't find an easy way to make my script print the output on the console, so based on that (and suggestion that Rscript.exe is the "proper" way to run R batch files) I decided to switch to Rscript. However when running the very same .R file with Rscript I get the following: Error: could not find function "setGeneric" Execution halted I know there is probably a trivial reason behind this but I just cannot figure it out. • Why Java cannot find my constructor?

  Well, maybe it is a stupid question, but I cannot resolve this problem. In my ServiceBrowser class I have this line: ServiceResolver serviceResolver = new ServiceResolver(ifIndex, serviceName, regType, domain); And compiler complains about it. It says: cannot find symbol symbol : constructor ServiceResolver(int,java.lang.String,java.lang.String,java.lang.String) This is strange, because I do have a constructor in the ServiceResolver: public void ServiceResolver(int ifIndex, String serviceName, String regType, String domain) { this.ifIndex = ifIndex; this.serviceName = serviceName; this.regType = regType; this.domain = domain; } ADDED: I removed void from the constructor and it works! Why?

  Very simple question from one somewhat new to Java: when adding an event handler (or whatever it is called in Java) to a Control, MUST it be an object? I mean, in C# I can do control.event += System.eventHandler(methodThatHandlesEvent) Sure, that's because we have delegate types in C#, but I was wondering if I can choose which method would be called when an event is raised in Java? I mean, in Java I can have something like control.AddActionListener(objectWhichClassImplementsActionListener) And then I have the stupid actionPerformed method in this class, which is the only method that is called. I know, there are more kinds of listeners, but I can't have a "ActionListenerHandler" class in which I implement several actionPerformed methods that can be assigned to different controls?

• Confusion between JPA and Hibernate cascading

  I'm using Hibernate 3.6 and have my code annotated (versus using hibernate mapping files). I ran into the known "problem" of using JPA cascading options that are not compatible with Hibernate's CascadeType (see this link for more info http://www.mkyong.com/hibernate/cascade-jpa-hibernate-annotation-common-mistake/). I was hoping to get a bit more clarification on the problem. I have some particular questions: 1) So @Cascade({CascadeType.SAVE_UPDATE}) works for saveOrUpdate(), but does it apply also if I use merge() or persist()? or do I have to use all three Hibernate CascadeTypes? 2) How do I decide whether to use JPA cascade options or the Hibernate @Cascade annotation instead? 2) There is a "bug" filed against this in Hibernate, but the developers apparently see this as a documentation issue, (I'm completely disagree with them), and I'm not seeing that it was addressed in said documentation. Anyone know why this is "working as designed" and not a bug in Hibernate's JPA implementation? Many thanks in advance.

  I wrote a simple test project, but I cant understand why I always receive savedInstanceState = null in lifecycle methods onCreate, onCreateView and onActivityCreated. I change the screen orientation, see the log, but state not saved. Tell me please where is my mistake. Thanks. I think that i check all 1) add map.jar from api 3 to eclipse 2) I obtain a api key 3) In androidmanifest I have putted the uses-library and te internet permision 4) I launch the google api emulator for api 3. 5) I dont know that i can try. • "Send it to a friend" button on a webpage

  Hey, How often do we see stuff like "Send this page to a friend" on a webpages? Well, I see them quite often. My question is, how do you guys see it's effectiveness? If I hit a webpage that's interesting, and I think my friend would enjoy it, I can just copy the URL from my browser bar, paste it into the email and press "Send" button. In my opinion, it's usually faster and less mistake-aware then the button/link like this on the webpage. In addition, I'm not really sure what this website does with the emails I enter there - don't they store it and then sell for $1/100 addresses to spammers? My question is - when you design a website, do you put such links on the pages (it's often seen on sites with some news/articles)? Does it even make sense?

• MySQL - Counting rows in preparation for greatest-n-per-group not working?

  Referring to SO and other sites have given me examples of how to use MySQL to create a 'greatest-n-per-group' query. My variant on this would be to have a query that returns the first 3 rows of each category. As the basis for this I need to sort my data into a usable sequence and that is where my problems start. Running just the sequence query with row numbering shows that changes in category are mostly ignored. I should have 35 categories returning rows but only 5 do so. My query: set @c:=0; set @a:=0; SELECT IF(@c = tdg, @a:=@a+1, @a:=1) AS rownum, (@c:=tdg) , julian_day, sequence, complete, year, tdg FROM tsd WHERE complete = 0 order by tdg, year, julian_day, sequence Do I have a syntax mistake with this query?

• Tkinter mouse event initially triggered

  I'm currently learning Tkinter and I cannot find a solution for my problem here nor outside Stackoverflow. In a nutshell, all events that I bind to my widgets are triggered initialy and don't respond to my actions. When the array is constructed, instead of using it as a pointer, JavaScript calls my function. Why? What mistake, misconception do I have?

• Updating .net 4.0 machine.config seems to have no effect

  I'm feeling stupid. I've just created my first ASP.net 4.0 site after working my way though over the years from 1.1 upwards. We have several settings at the machine.config level that I need to migrate to the new 4.0 machine.config. I though I had be adding the required connection strings to the connection string section of the following two files: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\machine.config C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\machine.config When I created a new website in IIS and assigned it to the ASP.net 4.0 Application pool I only get the default LocalSqlServer connection string. I tried editing the name of this in the two files above to indicate which file it was in, but there was no change. Are there machine.config files in other locations I should be looking at?

• Why repeat database constraints in models?

  In a CakePHP application, for unique constraints that are accounted for in the database, what is the benefit of having the same validation checks in the model? I understand the benefit of having JS validation, but I believe this model validation makes an extra trip to the DB. I am 100% sure that certain validations are made in the DB so the model validation would simply be redundant. The only benefit I see is the app recognizing the mistake and adjusting the view for the user accordingly (repopulating the fields and showing error message on the appropriate field; bettering the ux) but this could be achieved if there was a constraint naming convention and so the app could understand what the problem was with the save (existing method to do this now?)

• How compiling circular dependencies works?

  I've made the example in Java but I think (not tested) that it works in other (all?) languages. You have 2 files M.java that says public class MType{ XType x; MType(){ x = null;} } and another file XType.java (in the same directory) public class XType{ MType m; public XType(MType m){ this.m=m;} } Ok it's BAD programming , but.. if you run javac XType it compiles: compiles even MTypes because XType needs it. But.. MType needs XType.. how it works? How does the compiler know what is happening? Probably is a stupid question, but I would like to know how the compiler (javac or other compilers if you know.) manages that situation, not how to avoid it. I'm asking because i'm writing a precompiler and I would like to manage that situation.. Thank you

• Having trouble applying style to SVG using JavaScript upon object creation

  Hi, I have a function which creates an SVG text object using JavaScript. As soon as the object is created, I want it to have the style attribute which in CSS would be text-anchor: left. Currently, it doesn't work. I have tried many variations, and I also read that when using styles in JavaScript you must remove any '-' dashes and format the attribute name in camel casing (is this true?).
