  i did this in msvc 2005. typedef void (*cleanup_t)(); void func(cleanup_t clean) { cleanup_t(); } Why does this compile? and not give me a warning? ok, it gave me a unreferenced formal parameter warning but originally i did this when clean was in a class no there was no unreferenced formal parameter when this code gave me problems. What is cleanup_t(); really doing and what is the point? now for laughs i tried int() and that worked also.

  I'm trying to set up a batch file to automatically deploy a php app to a web server. Basically, what I want is an entirely automated process: I would just give it a revision number from the repository and it would then export the files, upload via ftp and then update deployment info at the repo host (codebase). However, I'm starting from scratch here. How would I set up a batch file to accept a variable when it was run? For example, the command myfile.bat /revision 42 should deploy revision 42 to my server. If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

  HI, I would like to profile my c++ application on linux. I would like to find out how much time my application spent on CPU processing vs time spent on block by IO/being idle. I know there is a profile tool call valgrind on linux. But it breaks down time spent on each method, and it does not give me an overall picture of how much time spent on CPU processing vs idle? Or is there a way to do that with valgrind. Thank you.

• Common files in output directories in a C# program

  My VS2008 solution has the following setup. Program1 Program2 Common.dll (used and referenced by both Program1 and Program2) In debug mode I like to set my output directory to Program Files\Productname, because some code will get the exe path for various reasons. My problem is that Program1 when compiled, will give an error that it could not copy Common.dll if Program2 is started. And vise versa. The annoyance here is that I don't even make changes to Common.dll that often, but 100% of the time it will try to copy it, not only when there are changes. I end up having to close all programs, and then build and then start them. So my question is, how can I only have VS2008 copy the Common.dll if there are changes inside the Common.dll project?

Im a newbie into this and I was using This Tutorial in order to set up the website... Now Im Stuck in the Step 08 Which asks to upload some files into the web host directory... I used FileZilla as my FTP Client .. When I give the host name and the password, Port number as 21 and try to login it says.. Connection Timed Out.. and says.. Could Not Connect to server .   I am new to .Net platform. I did a search and found that there are several ways to do parallel computing in .Net: Parallel task in Task Parallel Library, which is .Net 3.5. PLINQ, .Net 4.0 Asynchounous Programming, .Net 2.0, (async is mainly used to do I/O heavy tasks, F# has a concise syntax supporting this). I list this because in Mono, there seem to be no TPL or PLINQ. Thus if I need to write cross platform parallel programs, I can use async. .Net threads. No version limitation. Could you give some short comments on these or add more methods in this list? Thanks.

  Does anyone know if it is possible to use the Visual Studio / SQL Server Management Studio debugger to inspect the contents of a Table Value Parameter passed to a stored procedure? To give a trivial example: CREATE TYPE [dbo].[ControllerId] AS TABLE( [id] [nvarchar](max) NOT NULL ) GO CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[test] @controllerData [dbo].[ControllerId] READONLY AS BEGIN SELECT COUNT(*) FROM @controllerData; END DECLARE @SampleData as [dbo].[ControllerId]; INSERT INTO @SampleData ([id]) VALUES ('test'), ('test2'); exec [dbo].[test] @SampleData; Using the above with a break point on the exec statement, I am able to step into the stored procedure without any trouble. The debugger shows that the @controllerData local has a value of '(table)' but I have not found any tool that would allow me to actual view the rows that make up that table.

And if with JPA you can't do a batch update, what if I don't use transaction, and just use the following flow: em = emf.getEntityManager // do some query // make some data modification em.persist(..) // do some query // make some data modification em.persist(..) // do some query // make some data modification em.persist(..) ... em.close() How does this compare to batch update with regard to performance, and compare to a single transaction commit, measured by RPC calls to datastore server, CPU cycles per request, or so. Does every call to em.persist(..) before em.close() trigger a RPC call to the datastore server? Thanks very much for any response!

• Inserting Record into multiple tables No Common ID

  OK so I have two tables, MEDIA and BUSINESS. I want it set up so the forms to input into them are on the same page. MEDIA has a row that is biz_id that is the id of BUSINESS. So MEDIA is really a part of BUSINESS. HOW do I insert/add these into their tables without a common ID because I haven't yet made the record for business? I'm sorry I didn't really word this very much... You might need more clarification to answer properly and I'll be glad to give any more info. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

• Data validation between SQL replicated tables

  Hi All, I am trying to figure out a way to validate the data in my publisher and subscriber in SQL 2005 replication. I thought of using sp_publication_validation, but it needs db_owner permission and we are not allowed to have it in our company. So I did bit more reading and found out about two other SPs that I think work for me. First one is sp_article_validation, which I plan to run on the publisher. For each article that I call this SP, its gonna give the row count and a checksum. With that info, I intend to call sp_table_validation on the subscriber, passing the row count and checksum from the previous SP, there by validating both tables. What do you guys think? Is this a proven way to validate data in replication? There is very little documentation on these SPs. • How can I figure out where all these extra sqlite3 selects are being generated in my rails app?

  I'm trying to figure out where a whole pile of extra queries are being generated by my rails app. I need some ideas on how to tackle it. Or, if someone can give me some hints, I'd be grateful. I get these: SQL (1.0ms) SELECT name FROM sqlite_master WHERE type = 'table' AND NOT name = 'sqlite_sequence' SQL (0.8ms) SELECT name FROM sqlite_master WHERE type = 'table' AND NOT name = 'sqlite_sequence' SQL (0.8ms) SELECT name FROM sqlite_master WHERE type = 'table' AND NOT name = 'sqlite_sequence' repeated over and over on every request to the DB (as much as 70 times for a single request) I tried installing a plugin that traced the source of the queries, but it really didn't help at all. I'm using the hobofields gem, dunno if that is what's doing it but I'm somewhat wedded to it at the moment Any tips on hunting down the source of these extra queries?

  I'm looking to map to a directory on a different host using Jetty/Maven when working locally. I've found you can do this w/ Apache using mod_jk (JkMount/JkUnMount), but haven't figured it how to do the same on jetty. On our dev/q/live servers, we have Apache in front of JBoss and use mod_jk to do this. Locally, we're using jetty To give you an idea of what I'm talking about, this is how you would configure Apache to accomplish this: in httpd.conf: JkMount /images/* host2 JkMount /* host2 JkUnMount /images/* host1 workers.properties: worker.list=host2,host1 worker.host2.host=host-2.theDomain.com worker.host2.port=46654 worker.host1.host=host-1.theDomain.com worker.host1.port=46655 Is there a way to configure Jetty to do the same thing?
