  • Nested RDP and ILO/VMWare console sessions, latency and keystroke repetition

    I'm working on a remote server installation entirely through ILO. Due to the software application and environment, my access is restricted to a Windows server that I must access through RDP. Going from that system to the target server is accomplished via HP ILO2 or ILO3. I'm trying to run a CentOS installation in an environment where I can't use a kickstart. I'm doing this via text mode, but the keystrokes are repeating randomly and it's difficult to select the proper installation options. For example: ks=http://all.yourbase.org/kickstart/ks.cfg ends up looking like: ks====httttttp://allll..yourbaseee.....org/kicksstart/ks.cccfg I'm doing this using Microsoft's native RDP client (on Mac and Windows). I've also noticed this before when running installations or doing remote work in nested sessions. Same for typing into a VMWare console in some cases. Is there a nice fix for this, or it it simply a function of the protocol(s)?

  • GIMP: change the exact color on the image - OK, but transparency disappears

    There is no problem for me now to change color for pixels of the same color: I click on "Select by Color Tool"(Ctrl+O). The pixels of the same color are selected now. Then I press Ctrl+,. The selected pixels are white now (the white color is taken from a foreground color). The problem is the transparency. The green color I want to change to the white one has transparency. Once I use my method, the transparency disappears so all my-green-color with any transparency becomes white and without transparency. How do I keep the transparency by using my method? My picture is in .png format.

    It was time to create a new site. I figured VS 2010 is out so I should write it using MVC and Entity Framework. I have been very happy with MVC. My boss has had me making an administration web site in MVC2 but using 2008. I think one of the greatest features of MVC is you get to work with root of the app. It is kind of like being an iron worker; you get to work with the metal, mold it from scratch. Getting my articles out of my database and onto web pages was by far easier with MVC than it was with regular ASP.NET. This code is what I use to post the article to that page. It's pretty straightforward. The link in the menu is passes the id which is simply the url to the page.   • Performance Alert Writing to event Log but not running program

    I followed the instructions here How to create and configure performance alerts in Windows Server 2003 to set up an alert if the available logical disk space on one of my drives goes below a certain number. I selected the option to write to the application event log and select the "run this program" option and put in the path to a script that sends me an email. If I copy the path to the script and run it everything works and I get the email. When I start the alert I can see that the limit I set is being exceeded and the logs are being written to the application log, but the email is never being sent. I have the runas user and pword set to a Domain Admin. If I make the "run this program path" to C:\Windows\System32\calc.exe" it also doesn't start up the calculator. The Performance Logs and alerts services is running as Local Admin with allow to interact with desktop. What am I doing wrong?

  • How to see when stored procedures have last run

    I want to see a listing of all the stored procs for each database on a server along with when the last time that store proc was run. I'm pretty good with SQL but I don't know about looking at stats like this that sql keeps so I'd appreciate a little help finding this info. EDIT: From the answers I'm getting it sounds like this is not possible the way I thought it would be.   • Windows XP stay logged in

    Is there a way to make Windows XP stay logged in even after the user logs off? Right now the PCs log in at start up and we're using WinOFF to shut down the computer after X minutes of inactivity. The problem is that WinOFF does not work when the user logs off and stays in the "Select user login" screen. I'm thinking a possible solution would be to make the computer log back in as the default user after Y minutes of inactivity. How can I make it so that Windows XP logs in automatically after the user logs off?

  • Windows 8 won't boot after Boot Repair

    I've got a Sony Vaio laptop. Until yesterday I had Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04 installed. Today I upgraded to Windows 8, which killed my OS selection screen. So I booted to Ubuntu 12.10 from a USB stick and ran Boot Repair. This recovered the GRUB screen and let me boot into my Ubuntu 12.04 installation, but now I can' boot Windows 8. When I select the option that booted Windows 7 before, it looks like it wants to start Windows 7 (sic) again (black screen, with the text "Windows is loading" or something), but then reboots the machine after a few seconds. I'm sure Boot Repair can fix this, but I know far too little about the whole booting thing to know the right settings for it. Here's my boot repair report thing.

  • Custom built accounts package running on windows vista , printer selection box not now appearing

    This package has a printer function for documents which always brought up the printer selection box from which one picked the appropiate printer. Now recently,almost certainly as a result of windows updates, when I select PRINT nothing happens. The printer is working fine, and indeed a 'direct print' option to the default printer which is a matrix printer works fine, as it does not invoke the printer selection process. Does anyone know if there is a particular setting which might be causing this to happen. It works fine still on all previous windows versions XP etc, but will not work on Vista or later versions. Or is there a program code fix that anyone could suggest. Many thanks Liam

    In yesterday’s post I talked about you could use SQL Developer’s Describe (SHIFT+F4) to open a PL/SQL Package at your cursor. You might get an error if you try to describe this… If you actually try to describe the package as you see it in the above screenshot, you’ll get an error: Doh! I neglected to say in yesterday’s post that I was highlighting the package name before I hit SHIFT+F4. This works just fine, but it will work even better in our next release as we’ve fixed this issue. Until then, you can also try the Ctrl+Hover with your mouse. For PL/SQL calls you can open the source immediately based on what you’re hovering over with your mouse cursor. You could try this with “dbms_output.put_line(” too Ctrl+Click, It’s not just for PL/SQL If you don’t like the floating describe windows you get when you do a SHIFT+F4 on a database object, the ctrl+click will work too. Instead of opening a normal ‘hover’ panel, you’ll be taken directly to the object editor for that table, view, etc. Go ahead and try it right now. Paste this into your worksheet, then ctrl+click with your mouse over the table name: select * from scott.emp And now you know, the rest of the story.

  • SQL Performance Problem IA64

    We’ve got a performance problem in production. QA and DEV environments are 2 instances on the same physical server: Windows 2003 Enterprise SP2, 32 GB RAM, 1 Quad 3.5 GHz Intel Xeon X5270 (4 cores x64), SQL 2005 SP3 (9.0.4262), SAN Drives Prod: Windows 2003 Datacenter SP2, 64 GB RAM, 4 Dual Core 1.6 GHz Intel Family 80000002, Model 6 Itanium (8 cores IA64), SQL 2005 SP3 (9.0.4262), SAN Drives, Veritas Cluster I am seeing excessive Signal Wait Percentages ( 250%) and Page Reads /s (50) and Page Writes /s (25) are both high occasionally. I did test this query on both QA and PROD and it has the same execution plan and even the same stats: SELECT top 40000000 * INTO dbo.tmp_tbl FROM dbo.tbl GO Scan count 1, logical reads 429564, physical reads 0, read-ahead reads 0, lob logical reads 0, lob physical reads 0, lob read-ahead reads 0. As you can see it’s just logical reads, however: QA: 0:48 Prod: 2:18 So It seems like a processor related issue, however I’m not sure where to go next, any ideas? Thanks, Aaron

  • Windows 7 Keeps Changing the MBR on boot

    I am having an issue with Windows 7 changing the boot order everytime I start up. I have 4 partitions: boot linux windows. Grub is installed on the boot, and boots up both operating systems fine, however when I boot to Windows the bootable partition is changed to Windows and the MBR is rewritten. How do I stop this? Its rather annoying to have to boot, chroot and fix this problem everytime. I also don't want to use the Windows boot select.

  • Configure Mouse Buttons for "Administrator"/Elevated privileges

    I am, for better or worse, an administrator on my Windows 7 machine. However, even then, I still need to run certain programs "as Administrator" - for example, Visual Studio 2008 when working with local IIS sites. I also like to have the extra buttons on my IntelliMouse Optical doing non-standard things, like representing Ctrl and Shift. However, when in VS running as administrator, these settings aren't picked up, just like my mapped drives aren't picked up - I would understand this if I was logging in as a different user, supplying credentials, etc, but I'm not, I'm just pressing "Yes" at the UAC prompt. Normally, I'd just right click the item in the start menu and select "Run as administrator", but that's not an option on the context menu for either the Microsoft IntelliPoint Mouse application that appears under "Programs", nor the "Mouse" control panel item. Running the control panel as administrator also doesn't seem to help. So has any one got any suggestions on how I can configure my mouse buttons for the elevated version of me that Visual Studio is running as?

  • Cannot boot from USB on my Mac mini

    Two weeks ago I installed OSX 10.8 on my Mac mini. After that, my system started to hang a lot, so I tried to erase it and install OSX 10.7 again. I used carbon Copy Cloner to make the bootable USB and it can load successfully on another Macbook. However, on my Mac mini, when I press on the option button to select the USB, it loads the white screen with a ban symbol at the center of the screen. After a moment, my machine automatically shuts down. Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Edit: this is exactly the problem I have now http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-1207168.html Update 1: the hdd seems ok (from disk utility). I restored the booting partition by disk utility (drag the dmg file to that partition). After restarting and using that partition to boot, prohibited symbol is still there

What are my options ? My research shows me that I can use bridged network, but I have to select an adapter. I have only two network adapters, does that mean I can only have 2 VMs ? And when I configure the 2 VMS, will my actual server have internet connection ? Or does it use the Mac address ?

  • How to install Canon MP610 printer on Ubuntu 12.04 x64

    I installed Ubuntu 12.04 x64. Orginal Canon drivers are only for 32-bit version. How can I install this printer in 64-bit version ? Arkadius HERE IS SOLUTION I looked for solution some time and finally found it. First I try to do it by adding repository like it is written here: http://www.iheartubuntu.com/2012/02/install-canon-printer-for-ubuntu-linux.html BUT it did NOT work. Printer was installed but every print JOB goes somewhere ( probably to /dev/null :) ) Also installing sudo apt-get install ia32-libs did NOT worked (it was already installed) Finally I found solution. NOTE I did NOT use orginal Canon drivers for 32-bit. I also removed drivers from repository: ppa:michael-gruz/canon I found solution almost at the end of this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1967725&page=10 Most important hint was found in Response #97 "Do NOT install any PPA" I did as follows: Removed all copies of my printer Removed Canon drivers from repository ppa:michael-gruz/canon sudo apt-get remove cnijfilter* Added new repository and installed CUPS for Canon: sudo apt-add-repository ppa:robbiew/cups-bjnp sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install cups-bjnp Installed Gutenprint: sudo apt-get install printer-driver-gutenprint Restarted CUPS: sudo restart cups Add myself to group lp: sudo usermod -G lp -a your_user_name Added printer usings steps from link above: Don't install any PPA for the drivers. Click the Cog up in the right-hand corner and select Printers. Turn on the printer and make sure it is connected. When the Printers windows appears, click +Add and wait a few minutes. Your printer should appear within the configuration wizard. Mine did and its an Canon MX330. Click the defaults and continue on. Cups should identify your printer. I saw a few other models in the list. I was able to successfully print a test page afterwards. I hope this will also help someone else. Arkadius .

    On starting up Ubuntu, I seem to have to do the following, all the time: Enter the password for the keyring to unlock, so that it connects to wifi Enable the "Extra" Visual effects from the Appearances preferences Start skype. How can I automate all of these. Bonus points, if I can use the existing chat bundled in the system to use my skype account. Also, since I dual boot, I get the grub options initially to select Windows or Ubuntu that waits for 10 seconds for me to choose. How do I make it go to ubuntu, unless I explicitly not press a key to boot to windows. Thanks in advance.

    Instead of a normal button with words, sometimes you want a button that is just graphical. Yes, you can put an Image control in the Content of a normal Button control, but you still have the button outline, and trying to change the style can be rather difficult. Instead I like creating a user control that simulates a button, but just accepts an image. Figure 1 shows an example of three of these custom user controls to represent minimize, maximize and close buttons for a borderless window. Notice the highlighted image button has a gray rectangle around it. You will learn how to highlight using the VisualStateManager in this blog post.Figure 1: Creating a custom user control for things like image buttons gives you complete control over the look and feel.I would suggest you read my previous blog post on creating a custom Button user control as that is a good primer for what I am going to expand upon in this blog post. That is all that is needed to display the buttons shown in Figure 1. The definition for this user control is in a DLL named PDSA.WPF. The Style definitions for both the Border and the Image controls are contained in a resource dictionary names PDSAButtonStyles.xaml. Using a resource dictionary allows you to create a few different resource dictionaries, each with a different theme for the buttons.The Visual State ManagerTo display the highlight around the button as your mouse moves over the control, you will need to add a Visual State Manager group. Two different states are needed; MouseEnter and MouseLeave. In the MouseEnter you create a ColorAnimation to modify the BorderBrush color of the Border control. You specify the color to animate as “DarkGray”. You set the duration to less than a second. The TargetName of this storyboard is the name of the Border control “borMain” and since we are specifying a single color, you need to set the TargetProperty to “BorderBrush.Color”. You do not need any storyboard for the MouseLeave state. To this method you will pass in the target element (“borMain”) and the state (“MouseEnter”). Drag and drop the button onto a Window or User Control in your application. I have not referenced the PDSAButtonStyles.xaml file within the control itself so you do need to add a reference to this resource dictionary somewhere in your application such as in the App.xaml.<Application.Resources>  <ResourceDictionary>    <ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries>      <ResourceDictionary         Source="/PDSA.WPF;component/PDSAButtonStyles.xaml" />    </ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries>  </ResourceDictionary></Application.Resources>This will give your buttons a default look and feel unless you override that dictionary on a specific Window or User Control or on an individual button. After you have given a global style to your application and you drag your image button onto a window, the following will appear in your XAML window.<my:PDSAucButtonImage ... />There will be some other attributes set on the above XAML, but you simply need to set the x:Name, the ToolTip and ImageUri properties. You will also want to respond to the Click event procedure in order to associate an action with clicking on this button. The x:Name and the ToolTip we get for free. You have to create the Click event procedure yourself. In this blog post I showed you how to create a custom user control and simulate a button using a Border and Image control. With just a little bit of code to respond to the MouseLeftButtonDown event on the border you can raise your own Click event. Dependency properties, such as ImageUri, allow you to set attributes on your custom user control.   • NET START command not passing parameters in Windows Server 2008

    My application calls a Stored Procedure, through the stored procedure I am calling a Windows Service using the NET START command as follows: SELECT @Cmd = 'Net Start ServiceName /"' + @param1 + '" /"' + @param2 + '"' Now the parameters passed here are not reaching the OnStart method. These values are blank. Protected Overrides Sub OnStart(ByVal args() As String) Try service1= New Service service1.param2 = args(1) service1.param1 = args(0) Here I get args(0) as the name of service instead of the value that is passed, and args(1) is blank. Although the args.Getlength(0) returns 2. The service starts successfully, it invokes the executable, but the parameters are not there. What can be the reason? Administrative access might be required in NET START command? Has the syntax changed for NET START command in Windows Server 2008? Windows Services do not accept parameters in Windows Server 2008? The same thing is running fine on Windows Server 2003.
