• CS1685 Warning causes a CS0433 error when targeting 3.5 in VS2010

  I have a 2010 project that is targeting .NET v3.5. It was working fine until I started to mess with configurations a bit and now I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong. The project doesn't have ANY references added. It won't even let me add a reference to System.Core as it is added by the 'build system'. warning CS1685: The predefined type 'System.Func' is defined in multiple assemblies in the global alias; using definition from 'c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\mscorlib.dll' IFilter.cs(82,49): error CS0433: The type 'System.Func' exists in both 'c:\Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\v3.5\System.Core.dll' and 'c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\mscorlib.dll' Looks like something is grabbing onto 4.0 but I'm not quite sure how to fix it. Any one else run into this?

• How can I tell if the "optimizeCompilations" option is working?

  I've gone through the instructions found at http://blogs.msdn.com/davidebb/archive/2009/04/15/a-new-flag-to-optimize-asp-net-compilation-behavior.aspx, but I'm not sure if it's working. This is for a .NeET 3.5 SP1 project. When I add the attribute to my web.config, I get the warning The 'optimizeCompilations' attribute is not declared. Does this work for the ASP.NET Development Server? How can I test that it's working?

  I am working with a Web application, based on Asp.Net 3.5 and WSS 3.0 platform. Recenlty i've got a task as follows. Import bank statement using FTX - Desktop application and parse those statements into database in every 24 hours ie. i need to download bank statement with the help of a desktop application(which i can call by batch file). Then i have to go through each statement(text file) and convert those data into our database for future reference. As far as i know, .Net provides the following options to implement such a functionality. SharePoint Timer Jobs Web Services WCF Windows Services I would like to go for SharePoint Timer Jobs, but there are some plans to move whole application to Asp.net platform. I am interested with WCF since i haven't much experience with WCF applications, but not in a position to take final decision :) Which is the most suitable way for this kind of task? Please suggest.

• DTD is prohibited in this XML document -- how to change permissions?

  I am using a 3rd-party .NET component which requires an XML configuration file. I'm am using this in an ASP.NET application. I get an error when configure the XML with the following dtd: <!DOCTYPE prod-config SYSTEM "prod-config.dtd"> The error is as follows: For security reasons DTD is prohibited in this XML document. To enable DTD processing set the ProhibitDtd property on XmlReaderSettings to false and pass the settings into XmlReader.Create method. prod-config.dtd is sitting in the same directory as the XML config file. I don't have access to the component code to modify XmlReaderSettings, ProhibitDtd etc. Is there anotherway I can modify or tag the XML file to permit the DTD to be accessed? (FYI, the component is Oracle Coherence .NET client)

• Alternative to System.Web.HttpUtility.HtmlEncode/Decode?

  Is there any 'slimmer' alternative to the System.Web.HttpUtility.HtmlEncode/.Decode functions in .net 3.5 (sp1)? A separate library is fine.. or even 'wanted', at least something that does not pull in a 'whole new world' of dependencies that System.Web requires. I only want to convert a normal string into its xml/xhtml compliant equivalent (& back).

• The web publishing extension is not installed which is required to publish

  I was tring to deploy an ASP.NET Web Application to a Windows Azure Web Site by following the tutorial through this link: https://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/develop/net/tutorials/get-started/ After download the public profile, which is a ".PublishSettings" file, I go back to Visual Studio and right-click the project in Solution Explorer and select Publish from the context menu as the tutorial said. However, a warning box jumped up and it showed me that "The Web Publishing extension is not installed which is required to publish. You can install it from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=208120." I already installed "Windows Azure SDK for .NET (VS 2012)" and I also tried to uninstall this and install again, but the same problem is still there. Anyone knows how to solve this? I am really appreciated.

I've ensured the following Edit and Continue is enabled under ToolsOptionsDebuggingEdit and Continue My solution platform is set to x86 My solution configuration is set to Debug All my projects are building for Debug and x86 For all projects under ProjectsPropertiesBuild the Optimize code is unchecked When I hit a break point and try to edit I and confronted with the following message. This is happening for me for all projects that I create whether they are WPF/Win Forms/VB.NET/C#/.NET 4/.NET 3. Any ideas?

• Perfmon: which counter identifies that threads are waiting?

  While load testing an ASP.NET app, we find that the pages are taking 20-30 sec under heavy load. We suspect this is because the pages are waiting for database calls or web services. Is there a particular perfmon counter that can identify this sort of bottleneck on the web servers? CPU, Memory, and Disk are normal. Or must we use a tool other than perfmon to track down this bottleneck?

Unfortunately, I cannot add a strongly typed view as easily as I am used to ‘under’ asp.net mvc. What can I do to ‘enable’ this in VS 2008 Prof? • Trapping Error Status in MSBuild

  As part of some build automation of running xUnit.net tests with MSBuild, I'm running into a case where I need to loop over a batch of items. Inside the loop, I need to detect whether an iteration failed, but I want to continue executing regardless. Then after the batched bit, I need to know whether one or more errors have occurred in order to report the outcome to TeamBuild. IOW, in pseudocode: Task Name=RunTests CreateItems ForEach item CallTarget Target=RunTest ContinueOnError=true CombineNUnitResults Report success/failure Task Name=RunTest XUnit item I'm hoping this can be achieved without a custom task (or hacking the xunit.net MSBuild task as Jonne did). • Max TCP Connections to a machine

  I am creating a Windows Service in .NET to which N number of client can connect. The service starts a TCP listener and accepts the client connections. The problem I am facing is that I can only open 10 connections to this service. The listener::AcceptTcpClient() method accepts only 10 connection and throws an exception for 11th one. The client application uses the System.Net.Sockets.TcpClient class and the service is using System.Net.Sockets.TcpListener class. This is the exception that I am getting when I try to make a number of connections in a for loop to this service (after the 10th connection is made): "Unable to read data from Transport connection: An exsting connection was forcibly closed by remote host"

  How can I retrieve the names of all of the private MSMQ queues on the local machine, without using System.Messaging.MessageQueue.GetPrivateQueuesByMachine(".")? I'm using PowerShell so any solution using COM, WMI, or .NET is acceptable, although the latter is preferable. Note that this StackOverflow question has a solution that returns all of the queue objects. I don't want the objects (it's too slow and a little flakey when there are lots of queues), I just want their names.

• webclient methods not available to my Silverlight application

  Trying to do basic webclient data pull in C#, and the methods are not available in visualstudio, and the code is not compiling. //snip WebClient client = new WebClient(); byte[] resp = client.DownloadData(url); //snip Error 1 'System.Net.WebClient' does not contain a definition for 'DownloadData' and no extension method 'DownloadData' accepting a first argument of type 'System.Net.WebClient' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) C:\Users\Michael\Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\search2\search2\MainPage.xaml.cs I'm doing this in a c# file for a XAML/Silverlight project, but can't imagine why that would make a difference. I can not find any reference to this issue on the web, and I had something similar to this working last month, but in a regular ASP.NET page, not in a Silverlight app.

When I try to ping the server from client computer A I get the following: PING 74.208.192.xxx ==> Ping fails PING 74.208.192.xxx:80 ==> Ping succeeds! From client computer B, BOTH the pings fail. PING 74.208.192.xxx ==> Ping fails PING 74.208.192.xxx:80 ==> Ping fails with a message "Ping request could not find host 74.208.192.xxx:80" Both clients A and B are on the same subnet. The server is outside (a virtual server hosted by an ISP) I have an ASP.NET application in a virtual directory on the server. In IE or firefox, if I enter http://74.208.192.xxx/subdir/subdir/../Default.aspx, it works from both the clients! The server has default firewall settings but web server enabled (Port 80 is open). From client A (note the different 'reply to' address when the ping succeeds.   rig: win7 64bit, vs2010, mvc v2, TestDriven.Net 3.0, Reshaper 5.0, MSpec 0.3 i recently started a new project and want to use mspec. (1) copied Machine.Specifications.ReSharperRunner.5.0.dll and Machine.Specifications.dll to JetBrains\ReSharper\5.0\Bin\Plugins\Machine.Specifications (2) copied Machine.Specifications.TDNetRunner.dll to TestDriven.NET 3\Machine.Specifications when i try to run the test i get this error: System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'Machine.Specifications i don't know where this error is coming from. vs2010 menu - ReSharper -Plugins shows the MSpec plugin. vs2010 menu -ReSharper - Options - Tools - Unit Testing also shows the MSpec unit testing provider but it doesn't show any details when i click on it as does MSTest and nUnit. i found this: http://marcinobel.com/index.php/mspec-bdd-installer/ which didn't work. i also tried this: http://eduncan911.com/blog/registering-mspec-runners-for-testdriven-net-on-windows-x64.aspx which also didn't work. now i fear i screwed my registry. any guidance?

• How can I prevent Telerik RadChart from generating an onerror attribute?

For example, how to correctly use cookies and how to encrypt what is stored in the cookie to ensure the session persists until they logout/timeout. • Using a DataSet instead of custom business entities in soa and n-tier architecture

  I’m working on a large and a high volume transactional enterprise application which has been designed using n-tire application architecture .And it was developed in the .NET platform utilizing C#,VB.NEt, Framework 3.5, ObjectDataSources, DataSet, WCF, asp.net update panel, JavaScript ,JSON, 3rd Party tools. The application is supposed to accomplish a really scalable / easily maintained / robust application / integrations, and to make sure that my services are created using a format that can be understood by other systems. The problem is, this application is about 70% complete but now I was wondering if the following would cause us future issues, I’m using a DataSet and a DataTable to (get /set) the data (form /to) the stored procedure in the database using the ObjectDataSources and was wondering if this would prevent my application from achieving the above goals. Actually, I am not anti-OO. I write lots of classes for different purposes, but I didn’t use the entity objects(custom business entities) instead of the previous way because I have a large database that may contain 50 tables and I was just afraid to create entities for each table and then in the future if I need to change the schema of the database, it might cause a huge affect on the application ?

• Connect to SQL Server Compact Edition in SSIS

  Till now I've been exporting data INTO the SQL Server CE database, but now in SSIS I'm attempting to source data that was inserted in a previous step of the import. The SSIS fails during validation with the following error Error: Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.DtsCouldNotCreateManagedConnectionException: Could not create a managed connection manager. I am attempting to use the ADO NET Source that connects to the Data Source using the Microsoft.SqlServerCe.Client.3.5 provider (i.e. ADO.NET connection manager). I CAN preview the data in the ADO.NET Source editor, but the package validation fails due to the above error.

• IUSR vs. Application Pool credentials

  I have a IIS7/ASP.NET application running with the following configuration: Anonymous authentication (IUSR). Application Pool running as a domain account If IUSR is denied the "logon locally", then it appears that ASPX pages will still render their HTML, but static content such as images will not be delivered. I'm wondering what the technical reason is for this? If IUSR is "broken", why will a request to an ASPX page be passed down the pipeline and executed, but IIS will refuse to serve an image in the same directory?

• IIS Express only utilizes 13% of i7 Quad Core

  Since one of my scripts got incredibly complex, i was benchmarking the performance of moving some javascript processing logic to the server side in my ASP.NET MVC 4 application. According to taskmgr.exe, IIS Express only utilizes 13% of my i7. I decided to throw in 3 parallel tasks calculating the fibonacci sequence up to 50 and the IIS express still wouldn't utilize more than 13% of my cpu. Is there anything i can do, so that the application utilizes the full cpu, as it would in a real server ?

Is there a quicker way? Speed seems to be a bit slow on it as it pulls down the entire feed before parsing.
