  • vpsinfo system info script but for windows

    I'm using vpsinfo on all my linux servers, both virtual and non virtual and I'm wondering does anybody know of a similar script for windows servers? I sure could use one, so much that I'm even tempted to write one, but lack the time to do so. EDIT: I am not looking for monitoring application. I'm looking for a asp.net page that will show me all the relevant information about my server (like vpsinfo) without the hassle.

  • C# app fails to load Matlab DLL when running from a shared drive?

    I have a C# .NET 2.0 program that calls a Matlab .dll file that I created using Matlab Builder for .NET. This Matlab .dll file is a wrapper for a m file function that I need to call from my C# program. Everything works fine when I run this app from my local drive. However once I copy the app to a shared drive the Matlab dll fails when it's first loaded. I setup caspol to allow .NET programs to run from shared drives. Does anyone know what could cause this problem or a tool that I could use to easily figure out what the problem is? Thanks.

    I am an intermediate user of EF in .net 3.5 and have recently moved to working with .net 4. One think i keep coming across when reading various tutorials is the use of ObjectSets instead of ObjectQuerys and that they are a great new feature. What is so great about them? Reading this MSDN article titled "Working with ObjectSet (Entity Framework)" It shows two examples for on how to add a Product.. one for 3.5 and another for 4.0. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee473442.aspx Though my lack of knowledge I am possibly bringing up a seperate point here, but i never added a Product like this: //In .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, use the following code: using (AdventureWorksEntities context = new AdventureWorksEntities()) { // Add the new object to the context. context.AddObject("Products", newProduct); } I would have just used context.AddToProducts(newProduct); Please enlighten me.     Most web frameworks are still using the traditional action based MVC model. A controller recieves the request, calls the model and delegates rendering to a template. That is what Rails, Grails, Struts, Spring MVC ... are doing. The other category, the component based frameworks like Wicket, Tapestry, JSF, or ASP.Net Web Forms have become more popular over the last years, but my perception is that the traditional action based approach is far more popular. And even ASP .Net Web Forms has become a sibling name ASP .Net Web MVC. I think the kind of applications built with both types of frameworks is overlapping very much, so the question is: Why are action based frameworks so predominant?

I have to imagine that someone out there has written a framework I can use to simplify the creation of these kind of simple GUIs.   • How do I consume a COM+ local server from C#?

    I have a web application from a company that has gone out of business. We're looking to extend the web app a bit with some asp.net functionality. The web app was written as an ISAPI application in Delphi, and uses COM+ to talk to the SQL Server and handles things like session management and authentication. So, in order to get the current user and other details, I have to use the undocument COM+ components. I was able to dig out the type library and auto generated IDL, but at this point i'm lost in creating a .NET proxy class for this. Is there a way to autogenerate the .net COM+ proxy either from the .dll itself (extracting the typelib info) or from the IDL? Note: These seem to be simple COM style objects hosted in COM+ servers, no subscriptions or transaction monitoring..

What is the best way to do this?? The server is Windows 2003 Enterprise, the service is a .NET component wraped as COM+ (I know that I don´t have to do it that way, but the purpose is to itegrate a legacy App with a .NET component) The purpose of this is just to test that the .NET COM+ Component works.     Hi all, I'm new to .Net and IIS. I've created a simple RESTful Web Service in VS2008 and .net 3.5 framework using WCF. I've tested it well with F5 debugging in VS(seems it is auto deployed on Windows Service). Now I want to deploy it on my IIS server so that I can use it remotely. But I cannot find any guide for this. I manually deployed my service folder just as an ASP.net site. But seems it does not work(keep showing 401 error). Can anyone tell me how to deploy it to IIS? It contains a simple GET method and I hope it can be accessed by anomynous clients (because the host IP is 192.168..). I have a web.config file, a .dll and .pdb under /bin folder, a Global.asax and .svc file for my service. The IIS server is on the same machine. Thanks a million.

However i fail to understand, why do they offer codename "Enterprise" Shared hosting at the same price point as the codename "Economy" VPS ?   • Must .aspx files have a page directive?

    Around 90% of the pages for our websites have no .Net code embedded in them yet are published as .aspx files. I want these to render as fast as possible so I'm removing as much as I can. Does the .Net page directive have an impact on performance? I am thinking about two factors; the page speed for each GET and what happens when the file changes. The CMS system re-creates each page daily and I'm wondering if this triggers the ASP.Net compilation process.

    Okay i have what may seem a really easy to solve problem but i've been trying to solve it for days. I'm trying to deploy a asp.net MVC2 application to a IIS 5.1 server running Windows XP Pro. (it's actually the default MVC2 app) However when i deploy, the only thing i'm able to see is a Directory listing. I tried a lot of stuff but can't get it to display anything other than the directory listing. hopefully i'm just a noob who forgot to add something, thanks for your answer :)

    We are in the process of creating active-x controls used within our application. Since Microsoft stopped supporting classic Visual Basic, is it wise to use Visual Basic to develop the Active X control or the latest VC++/ATL/MFC libraries provide more feature where we can create controls faster by leaving Visual Basic flexibility? We will not be able to use .NET/VB.NET/C# since the application is supposed to work inside containers and containers may not support latest .NET runtime. Any other language is best fit for Active X control development other than VB and VC++?

    I have developed the application for windows mobile 5.0 and .net compact framework 2.0 sp2. This application communicates to the hardware device using serial port. This application works fine in windows mobile 5.0 based PDAs. I have handled data received event to get the data from serial port. But when I run my application on windows mobile 6.1 and .net compact framework 3.5, my application hangs on serial port close API call. There are many workarounds mentioned in the .net compact framework blog like (closing the com port on different thread, opening the port in the beginning of the application and close once application exists, polling for data instead of event handling), but nothing is working consistently.

    I'm trying to rebuild an old metronome application that was originally written using MFC in C++ to be written in .NET using C#. One of the issues I'm running into is playing the midi files that are used to represent the metronome "clicks". I've found a few articles online about playing MIDI in .NET, but most of them seem to rely on custom libraries that someone has cobbled together and made available. I'm not averse to using these, but I'd rather understand for myself how this is being done, since it seems like it should be a mostly trivial exercise. So, am I missing something? Or is it just difficult to use MIDI inside of a .NET application?

  • Whats the proper way of accessing a database through an assembly?

    Hi, I have a ASP.NET MVC application which is build up as an assembly that queries the database and a asp.net frontend that references this assembly and this assembly abstracts the underlying database. This means that my Assembly contains a app.config file that contains the connectionstring to the database (Linq to Sql data model). How do I go about making this more flexible? Should i make a "initialize()" method somewhere in my assembly which takes the connection string from the asp.net mvc application and then that controls which database to use? or how is this done?
