  • OpenGL - Calculating camera view matrix

    Problem I am calculating the model, view and projection matrices independently to be used in my shader as follows: gl_Position = projection * view * model * vec4(in_Position, 1.0); When I try to calculate my camera's view matrix the Z axis is flipped and my camera seems like it is looking backwards. My program is written in C# using the OpenTK library. Translation (Working) I've created a test scene as follows: From my understanding of the OpenGL coordinate system they are positioned correctly. The model matrix is created using: Matrix4 translation = Matrix4.CreateTranslation(modelPosition); Matrix4 model = translation; The view matrix is created using: Matrix4 translation = Matrix4.CreateTranslation(-cameraPosition); Matrix4 view = translation; Rotation (Not-Working) I now want to create the camera's rotation matrix. To do this I use the camera's right, up and forward vectors: // Hard coded example orientation: // Normally calculated from up and forward // Similar to look-at camera. Vector3 r = Vector.UnitX; Vector3 u = Vector3.UnitY; Vector3 f = -Vector3.UnitZ; Matrix4 rot = new Matrix4( r.X, r.Y, r.Z, 0, u.X, u.Y, u.Z, 0, f.X, f.Y, f.Z, 0, 0.0f, 0.0f, 0.0f, 1.0f); This results in the following matrix being created: I know that multiplying by the identity matrix would produce no rotation. This is clearly not the identity matrix and therefore will apply some rotation. I thought that because this is aligned with the OpenGL coordinate system is should produce no rotation. Is this the wrong way to calculate the rotation matrix? I then create my view matrix as: // OpenTK is row-major so the order of operations is reversed: Matrix4 view = translation * rot; Rotation almost works now but the -Z/+Z axis has been flipped, with the green cube now appearing closer to the camera. It seems like the camera is looking backwards, especially if I move it around. My goal is to store the position and orientation of all objects (including the camera) as: Vector3 position; Vector3 up; Vector3 forward; Apologies for writing such a long question and thank you in advance. I've tried following tutorials/guides from many sites but I keep ending up with something wrong. This sound system compromises a external subwoofer which amplifies bass and is connected to a special output jack. Ubuntu 12.04, however, does not detect this subwoofer. How could this be solved?   • XFCE session with GNOME in background

    Hi askUbuntu I recently installed XFCE on my Ubuntu 10.04 and it runs finely but with an issue. Everytime I login into my XFCE session I see the background image of GNOME session and after few seconds it disappears which gives me the impression that XFCE session is running over an already running GNOME session. If that is really the case then it might also be eating into my system's RAM which could be a bug. All helps and suggestions are welcome.

    I've been reading some literature on security, specifically password security/encryption, and there's been one thing that I've been wondering: is the 3-strike rule a perfect solution to password security? That is, if the number of password attempts is limited to some small number, after which all authentication requests will not be honored, will that not protect users from intrusion? I realize gaining access or control over something doesn't always mean going through the authentication system, but doesn't this feature make dictionary/brute-force attacks obsolete? Is there something I'm missing?

  • Disk Drive not working

    The CD/DVD drive on my sisters' (I'm helping her shift from Win. XP (now officially deprecated by Microsoft) to Ubuntu) system. Now, it may end up being a failed attempt, all together (Almost the whole last year (when she's been on XP) the disk drive hasn't (not even powering on) been working.), I just want to make sure I've explored every remote possibility. Because I figure, "Huh, now that I've got Ubuntu running, instead of XP, that (just) might make a difference.". I have tried using the sudo lshw command in the terminal, to (seemingly) no avil, but, who knows, you might be able to make something out of it.     It happens sometimes, but I've managed to restore the Nautilus without rebooting the system.But today, when I attached a file .svg by e-mail, he first caught the Google Chrome and then Firefox 5, and when I open the folder in Nautilus Ubuntu crashed. Making me to restart the PC via Alt + SysRq + B. I know there is a bug related to it, and I also know that there is no preview thumbnails for Nautilus, but that could be set up so only thumbnails of files .svg did not appear?

    OK so not a customized world, but do you know what goes into creating that customized web store front for you? How do you get those additional offers from vendors when you call in for service or when you are browsing a storefront. This is what is has been happening behind the scenes.  When a customer calls in a contact center for service, at the end of the conversation, they are offered a new product, or service. But what just transpired was that the CRM system that was in place had routed the call to the right agent, the agent got the pop up screen with the customer information, and the call request  was handled. Then came the decision point to cross-sell and up-sell, The agent got some recommended offers that were created based on analyzed data (this data had been put into a data warehouse, modeled, profiled and rules were implemented e.g.. People with profile X like product Y).  But with this system, what happens is that analytics can be applied to a very small subset.     I'm PXE-booting a Ubuntu 10.10 system, where I specify the kernel parameters as follows: append root=/dev/nfs initrd=ubuntu-boot/initrd.img-2.6.35-24-generic nfsroot=11.22.33.44:/data/nfsroot,fsc ip=dhcp rw I need to use the mount option 'fsc' in order to use FS-cache functionality (the cachefilesd package.) However, when I try this I get the following error upon boot: nfsmount: bad option 'fsc' Why doesn't nfsmount permit this option? (It works fine when you mount manually with "mount -o fsc" after booting up.)

  • Unable to boot Ubuntu 13.10 (nVidia GTX 770m and Intel HD 4600)

    Ever since I bought this laptop I've been trying to install Ubuntu on it. It came with W8 preinstalled. Up to this point, I've been able to boot in UEFI mode with a black screen. I can tell it's trying to use the nVidia card (there's a led on the computer, depending on the color you can tell which GPU is using) and if I press crtl+alt+F1 I can go to console mode. Taking this advantage I tried to install bumblebee and after a successful install the led that indicates which GPU is being used change, indicating that it switched to the Intel HD 4600 graphics. After the installation I tried to initiate the graphic interface (startx) with no success. I also saved the dsmeg output to see if it can be of any help. In order to be able to get to this stage I had to boot with nomodeset option and removed quiet and splash. Anyone got this same error? Any guidance? I've tried other linux distros and so far the only one that is able to boot is Opensuse 12.3 without any issues (but only when I switch to legacy mode instead of UEFI).

    I have somehow changed my root username which seems to have caused my system to disallow me to mount USB, CDROM. My normal username is jenchris, however if I type: su root (and enter the password) then it shows root@jenchris-H55M-UD2H:/home/jenchris# (PLEASE NOTE THE HASH AT THE END OF THE USERNAME!) I think I accidentally hit the hash key at some point whilst typing my username.... This is causing huge problems as I have lost lots of permissions, please can someone help?
