  In my workplace I have a coworker who have been working in the company for 3 years (1 more than me) doing stuff surrounding to software development but not software development. We need to run a new project in C and we have a lot of professional disagreements that in my opinion are caused by too much pride to his skill. For example he strives to insert code unnecessary code generation using C macros as possible instead of writing the same C code with the correct separations to functions. I tried to explain to him why inline function are a better replacement for C macros but he said to me that he knows better than gcc how to inline a function. How can I handle such a person?

• "From the Coal Face" - 1 - What ILDASM can reveal!

  In a place far, far away, there was a project where the Architect decided on using embedded TSQL in a Dot Net application, rather than use stored procedures. I located ILDASM.EXE (my Framework 3.5 version lives at C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\bin on my home development PC) and created a shortcut to it in the SendTo folder. Now I could set about doing a simple demonstration to the Architect by taking one of the Dot Net EXE's with the embedded TSQL and sending it to ILDASM.  Since I had written most of the embedded TSQL, it was a matter of seconds before I located the embedded TSQL within the Exe. The TSQL that was supposed to be safely hidden within the EXE was easily located and and copied. (It should also be noted that we could have encrypted the stored procedures on loading them to the database.)

• How to get experience in large scale databases?

  I have written applications that are very small scale and the code I write works fine for them. But I have often wondered how the server side code I write would scale up from 100s of queries per day to millions. Also when looking at possible jobs/projects, people are often looking for developers with experience in this sort of high traffic database design so I would at least like to be able to say, I havent gotten to work on a project that was this popular, but I at least have tried to simulate it. Are there tools or frameworks that can generate a lot of traffic or at least simulate what would happen with traffic on different orders of magnitude so I could get some practice writing optimized code for higher traffic applicaitons?

• What kind of authorization I should use for my facebook application

  I am building a social reader Facebook application using Django where I am using Google Data API (Blogger API). But I am unable to deal with the authorization step to use the API (currently using ClientLogin under development). I tried to read the OAuth documentation but couldn't figure out how to proceed. I don't want my users to provide any login credentials for google.. which makes the app completely absurd. So, can anyone help me on my project and tell me what kind of authorization I should actually use and how ? (I am using gdata lib)

• How do you combat programming fatigue?

  Not fatigue as in 'I need sleep' but fatigue as in 'I just can't be bothered anymore' which usually sets in when you hit roadblocks in whatever project you're working on, generally the closer you get to deadlines. It can be in work projects or personal projects, but it's something I keep hitting more and more lately. I'll get an idea, get into working on it, have a few really good days and make progress, then just some niggly things will trip me up, I can't get things working the way you want, I've hit limitations in the framework, I've got problems I can't find documentation for, etc. and it just gets too frustrating. Or am I alone in this?

• Effective methods for managing work tasks? (documenting/remembering/prioritizing)

  I'm looking for suggestions on effective methods that I can use to document, remember and prioritize tasks at work. Many of the these tasks belong to a primary project, but they also exist for independent initiatives. The tasks themselves cover everything from development to documentation to discussions, with varying priorities, and deadlines ranging from right away to a few months from now. Historically I have used a notepad to keep track of these tasks, with a star next to an item indicating it needs to be done and a check mark when it's completed. However, as I gain more responsibilities and more things to manage: it becomes harder to make sure I've done everything (because some things get lost 5 pages back) it becomes harder to remember what's most important to do next it becomes harder to keep track of dependencies between tasks Has anyone found methods that have made their tasks easier to manage? I've considered adding some meta-data to keep track of what's most important and dependencies, or possibly switching to an app that could automate this (if such a thing exists). Something that's accessible anywhere would definitely be a plus.

• Possible to pass pygame data to memory map block?

  I am building a matrix out of addressable pixels and it will be run by a Pi (over the ethernet bus). The matrix will be 75 pixels wide and 20 pixels tall. As a side project, I thought it would be neat to run pong on it. I've seen some python based pong tutorials for Pi, but the problem is that they want to pass the data out to a screen via pygame.display function. I have access to pass pixel information using a memory map block, so is there anyway to do that with pygame instead of passing it out the video port? Considering that /movie is not a real directory. So that page doesn't exist. Something similar to wordpress /category/ base that is used purely for content separation on the site. What do you think?   We just completed developing a web app for a client. And like i usually do, i added developed by "My Company" at the footer at a very small insignificat size. I sent the client an Eend user license stating some of the following in summary you can't resell, redistribute, etc without our notice ... you can remove the attribution or design credits the client got back to me and complained, telling me now that he was also developing for someone, and that 'I can't add my attribution' without his/her consent, but? Although i sign a NDA with in summary states that i cannot disclose the software to anyone else There was no agreement before the project that am not to add design credits or attribution i know every software i install have that, and so is every products from companies, mostly technological products. how does this work (adding design credits) What do you think?

• Agile Tools For Handling Multiple Projects

  Currently I'm leading our agile team in an iteration manager role as well as doing my regular dev work. One of the difficulties I'm facing as an IM is tracking burn-down/burn-up; not because I can't produce graphs, but because there's multiple projects that this team is working on at one time. At present I have an excel workbook with sheets that contain a whole bunch of graphs, both at an overall team and by-project level. It's clunky and I spend more time tweaking formulas and double checking calculations than I'd really like. As such, I'm interested to know if anyone has used a tool that can effectively produce these sorts of reports, burn-downs, and predictions across multiple projects. I've seen http://www.pivotaltracker.com/ do some nice things, and of course there's JIRA/Greenhopper, but I'm not aware of those being used to track the progress of multiple projects within one team. If anyone's got an idea of some tools, or has faced a similar problem before, I'd love to hear from you.

  The problem here is the ProfileCatalog.xml file refers to the old assesmbly namesdlls. It does not get updated when the assembly names change. Steps to fix this issue: 1. Open the ProfileCatalog.xml file in the Shell project, and you'll find there are three ModuleInfo configuration items that need to have the solution name prefixed. 2. • Box2D random crash when adding joints

  I'm currently working on a project which uses Box2D, when the player uses a certain key it should anchor to the ground. For that I use a weld joint, but when I add the joint the game will sometimes crash, it has a 1/10 change to crash.
