  What is your primary development machine - a Desktop or a laptop? Why? Do you use both - if so, do you use source control to keep them synched? This might seem like a dumb question but I'm on the steep part of the learning curve & I'd be interested in your insights. • Failed to load viewstate...

  Yes, it's the infamous viewstate again! Now I am aware that problems can ocurr if you load controls in the wrong order or if the viewstate IDs are incorrect after postbacks etc etc. But my issue is that I am not really creating any controls dynamically - I only have one user control on the page. More importantly, the issue seems to be occuring with just one user. What could be the problem? Corrupt browser cache? Any help appreciated. thanks, KS

  When I wrote JEE apps, I used JBoss Datasources to control which databases the deployment used. E.g. the dev versions would use a throwaway hibernate db, the ref and ops would use stable MySQL deployments. I also used MBeans to configure various other services and rules. Now that I'm using Spring, I'd like the same functionality - deploy the same code, but with different configuration. Crucially, I'd also like Unit Tests to still run with stub services. My question is this - is there a way, in JBoss, to inject configuration with files which live outside of the WAR/EAR, and also include these files in test resources.

• svn stat says folder uncontrolled, but won't let me svn add it!

  Hi, Running into a weird problem with svm. I do svn stat in my controlled directory, lists something like: ? myproject/foo ? myproject/zoo so I do: svn add myproject/zoo and then I get this message back: svn: warning: 'myproject/zoo' is already under version control I don't get it, why is it showing it as uncontrolled then? I tried running svn cleanup, svn update, nothing though. I am also looking at my svn project in tracker, and I don't see the /zoo folder as present. What can I do to convince svn it's not really added? Thanks

  I have the following class structure for custom UITableViewCells: NumericEntryCell - Contains method for controlling max value that can be entered into a textbox. SliderCell - inherits from NEC and contains methods for handling slider-control of textbox value TextOnlyCell - just contains a textbox CellA - inherits from SliderCell and has a max value of 28 CellB - inherits from TextOnlyCell and has a max value of 150. I want NumericEntryCell to contain a definition for a property that contains the maxValue. I want to be able to set a value for this in the initialize method of a child class (CellA or CellB). Currently I have an int maxValue declared in the interface of NEC. I declare a property for this with @property int maxValue and @synthesize it within the .m file. However, attempting to modify this property's value from CellA or CellB's initialize method has no effect - when I hit a breakpoint in the NEC method that uses this value, its value is always zero. How can I get this to work?

"<Annotation: 0x586cdb0>" Now this is a weird question, but how do I get the info from this Annotation? I have lost my mind. • Multiple System.Web.Extensions assembly in same project?

  Hi, I'm having trouble moving a website from one server to another. It seems to be a problem loading multiple versions of System.Web.Extensions. The code uses version 3.5 in most places but a third party control appears to be needing version 1.0.6. I didn't think this was possible but it appears to be working in it's current situation. Is there a way I can use the GAC version of System.Web.Extensions for the site but import a dll of version 1.0.6 just for these controls?

• php most memory efficient way to return files

  so i have a bunch of files, some can be up to 30-40mb and i want to use php to handle security of the files, so i can control who has access to them that means i have a script sort of like this rough example $has_permission = check_database_for_permission($user, filename); if ($has_permission) { header('Content-Type: image/jpeg'); readfile ($filename); exit; } else { // return 401 error } i would hate for every request to load the full file into memory, as it would soon chew up all the memory on my server with a few simultaneous requests so a couple of questions is readfile the most memory efficient way of doing this? is there some better method of achieving the same outcome, that i am overlooking? server: apache/php5 thanks

• Working with Foreign languages

  My DB needs to hold strings containing foreign language characters such that; User enters string into form, form submitted and string added to DB, string will be displayed on page for viewing. I would like to use UTF8 as this will be able to handle all of the required languages. Currently I believe my DB is set to 'latin1' but webpages are capable of displaying correct charachters anyways. Problems arise when trying to set textareas to hold foreign charachters and when viewing DB via command-line. How can I implement this most effectively? My plan was to blitz the whole site such that:DB Charset is UTF8 and web pages charset is UTF8. Could someone give me the minimal commands on how to do this so I don't end up duplicating things (Having "UTF8" commands everywhere when I really just need one) and making things too difficult to control.   We are running on SSL on following server topology: 1 ISA (SSL Terminate/cache/proxy+AD authentication) 1 Sharepoint 1 IBM DB2 Database as enterprise/corporate DB 1 MS SQL Server as local DB We have recently optimized the caching, compression, minification, and other ASP.net best practices such as viewstate and cookie sizes, minimizing round trips, parallel connections/domain sharding and a lot more.... Now we are not convinced that the we are in an optimized position as the network resources i.e. bandwidth and especially latency are out of our control!! The client/browser to server/sharepoint is trans-Atlantic i.e. (ASIA, USA, EUROPE). As of my understanding the only ways to improve the network (latency) are: - TCP/SSL optimization - hardware/software? - CDNs - cloud or our own ? • Send Ctrl+Up to a window

  I'm trying to send messages to a window that says Ctrl and Up-arrow has been pressed. I've got the basics down, I can send presses of the space key that registeres fine. • Should we use Nexus or Artifactory for a Maven Repo?

  We are using Maven for a large build process ( 100 modules). We have been storing our external dependencies in source control, and using that to update a local repo. However, we are ready to graduate to a local repo that can cache central so that we don't have to proactively download all 3rd parties (but we can still have a local repo to pull from). In addition we want to publish our internal build artifacts from a nightly build so that developers don't have to build the world. We are considering Nexus and Artifactory. What are the reasons for preferring one over the other? Are there others we should be considering?

  How do I sign an APK with more than one certificate, so that I can do this when I publish to the Android Market: Version 1.0 = Signed with Certificate A Version 2.0 = Signed with Certificate A & B Version 3.0 = Signed with Certificate B The Android Market does give me some hope but I am not sure what to make of it, when I upload with a different sign certificate it gives me this message: "The apk must be signed with at least one certificate in common with the previous version." Motive: I have published an app on the market using the Android Signing Tool as part of MotoDev Studio for android. The problem is that it handles the keys itself and there is no way (documented) to get them. I want to change it to use a keystore and certificate that I have more control of and can use even if I don't use MotoDev Studio anymore. Also it seems that MotoDev Studio will lock you out of new features such as shared libraries.

• jQuery Photo Search Results Pagination using AJAX and JSON

  I have a "photo search" page that needs to present search results in a 5x5 grid of photo thumbnails. I'd like to populate this grid using the JSON results of a jQuery $.ajax() call to my ASP.NET web service. Where I'm struggling is with pagination, where clicking [First][Prev][1][2][3]...[20][21][Next][Last] will call back again via ajax and repopulate the results with the appropriate images. So I need to find a solution to both the pagination control itself and the search results. Is there a jQuery plugin for this, or something I can easily adapt for my purposes?

• how to databind a datalist's page index to a button's commandname?

  I am currently building my own CMS for various reasons that could take a long to explain... However i am looking for a dynamic solution to create templates for pages within the CMS and all areas must be editable via the administration area, maybe large text areas broken into multiple areas, text and image area on a page etc. Following on from the above i would like to create the following: Create a new page (selecting a pre-defined template like below) http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/9872/nestedpages.png and then upon editing the page it would have created as many text editors required for each editable region or a file upload control for an image area for example. i am thinking of using nested masterpages for the design elements, just unsure the best-practice way to achieve the above (db structure etc) I somehow hope this provides enough information but are happy to answer any questions you may have.   Hi, is there a way to disable typing in of values in the NumberSpinner of Dojo? Or is there a way for me to set back a previous value to it? Here's a sample situation: I have a spinner where the range is 1-3. However, the user types in an invalid value... say, a letter. The usual error handling happens. However, if the user deletes the value and focuses out (e.g. goes to another widget/control/etc. in the page), the spinner stays blank. Either I reset it to the last valid value or I disable typing so that the user can just use the up and down arrows to manipulate the widget. Any thoughts? Thanks!

• how to controller (start/kill) a background process (server app) in ruby

  hey guys, i'm trying to set up a server for integration tests (specs actually) via ruby and can't figure out how to control the process. so, what i'm trying to do is: run a rake task for my gem that executes the integration specs the task needs to first start a server (i use webrick) and then run the specs after executing the specs it should kill the webrick so i'm not left with some unused background process webrick is not a requirement, but it's included in the ruby standard library so being able to use it would be great. hope anyone is able to help! ps. i'm running on linux, so having this work for windows is not my main priority (right now).

  Hi. I am using a CTL file to load data stored in a file to a specific table in my Oracle database. Currently, I launch the loader file using the following command line: sqlldr user/pwd@db data=my_data_file control=my_loader.ctl I would like to know if it is possible to use specify parameters to be retrieved in the CTL file. Also, is it possible to retrieve the name of the data file used by the CTL to fill the table ?I also would like to insert it for each row. I currently have to call a procedure to update previously inserted records. Any help would be appreciated !

• postback __EVENTTARGET ID in Page.Request.Form has $ not _ in ASP.NET

  I am using the ToolkitScriptManager from the Ajax tool kit and I am having a problem finding my button's ID. My ID's on my controls come back with $ symbols instead of _ symbols, like the following: Grid$ctl06$insertButton This obviously causes problems when attempting to find the control from the Page.Request.Form keys. I cannot seem to find the determining factor that would cause this. Now, I know this is the name and in my source I see that the ID is with the _, so why is the Page.Request.Form showing up with the $ symbol instead? Anybody encounter this before?

• WPF Button on or off coloured state
