• How to configure linux routing/filtering to send packets out one interface, over a bridge and into another interface on the same box

  I'm trying to test a ethernet bridging device. I have multiple ethernet ports on a linux box. I would like to send packets out one interface, say eth0 with IP 192.168.1.1, to another interface, say eth1 with IP 192.168.1.2, on the same subnet. I realize that normally you don't configure two interfaces on the same subnet, and if you do the kernel routes directly to each interface, rather than over the wire. How can I override this behavior, so that traffic to 192.168.1.2 goes out the 192.168.1.1 interface, and visa-versa? Thanks in advance!

• Large OSX 10.6 to Windows 7 smb transfers fail?

  I'm connecting to a windows 7 box from a OSX 10.6 box via smb: smb://ftp1 Connection works fine, I can transfer individual files one at a time, but as soon as I try and move an entier folder I get the following error: The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “test” can’t be read or written. (Error code -36) This error happens on all our OSX boxes when trying to push the entier folder to the Win7 box. The folder TEST in the above error message has -R 777 permissions. I can move every image file to the windows box one by one with no errors. But if I try an move the entier folder. bam error out. This error seems to kill the smb client on the Windows box as well. There's an FTP server on the windows box and I can FTP in from the OSX box and move everything just fine. Not sure what is going on here?

  Hello. Does anyone know how I can get the value of an imput box, without having a form? I want a sumbit button, but instead of submiting a form, I want it to change data in a MySQL database. Something like this maybe? $img1="WHAT DO I PUT HERE?" $idx=1 $sql="INSERT INTO games SET img1='$img1' WHERE id=$idx"; $result=mysql_query($sql); Could I use that code on a "onclick" event?   I just need to take a certain html query object and append it to an html element a lot of times. I have this: var box = $("<div class='box'>&nbsp</div>"); $("#firstbox").after(box); and it works fine, but it just adds one 'box' after the #firstbox element. I'd like to do something like this: var box = $("<div class='box'>&nbsp</div>"); $("#firstbox").after(box * 6000); so that it will insert 6000 copies of that 'box' html, but this is not working. This is I'm sure the easiest thing to do, but I can't seem to find how to multiply actions like this without using the each() function, which doesn't apply here because I don't have 6000 of anything on my page. • C# wpf helix scale based mesh parenting using Transform3DGroup

  I am using https://helixtoolkit.codeplex.com/ as a 3D framework. I want to move black mesh relative to the green mesh as shown in the attached image below. I want to make green mesh parent to the black mesh as the change in scale of the green mesh also will result in motion of the black mesh. It could be partial parenting or may be more. I need 3D rotation and 3D transition + transition along green mesh's length axis for the black mesh relative to the green mesh itself. Suppose a variable green_mesh_scale causing scale for the green mesh along its length axis. The black mesh will use that variable in order to move along green mesh's length axis. How to go about it. I've done as follows: GeometryModel3D GreenMesh, BlackMesh; ... double green_mesh_scale = e.NewValue; Transform3DGroup forGreen = new Transform3DGroup(); Transform3DGroup forBlack = new Transform3DGroup(); forGreen.Children.Add(new ScaleTransform3D(new Vector3D(1, green_mesh_scale , 1))); // ... transforms for rotation n transition GreenMesh.Transform = forGreen ; forBlack = forGreen; forBlack.Children.Add(new TranslateTransform3D(new Vector3D(0, green_mesh_scale, 0))); BlackMesh.Transform = forBlack; The problem with this is the scale transform will also be applied to the black mesh. • Ubuntu touch flashing failed/taking to long. Black screen! Redeploy help!

  So i'm brand new to the whole unlock, root and flashing thing. I just tried flashing Ubuntu touch on my Galaxy Nexus (international GSM/HSPA+) and everything seamed fine until the very end when i got this ERROR message. ERROR:phablet-flash:Installation is taking too long or an error occured along the way. I didn't know what to do so i disconnected my device (which was in Ubuntu recovery) and tried rebooting it from there, it worked "sort of". i got the Google logo with the unlocked icon then it continued to a black screen. In the installation guide on http://www.ubuntu.com/phone/install said i should: "try wiping the /data partition on your device and redeploy". the problem is that i don't know how to do this and i'm basically sitting here with a useless phone right now. I would be extremely grateful for some proffeexpert help.

  My app is structured like this, a single MainWindow with window backgroundColor to white(which doesn't appear anywhere anyway), and in this nib i have a UINavigationController which doesn't seems to have a backgroundColor. Any view controller is added from code and made from code and they have a gray background. What happens is that when i rotate the iphone and the views are rotating as well, i see a black background under my views. Can this be changed? It looks ugly especially if i have a photo that is rotating in the same time with my gray background.

  So I have what is essentially a spreadsheet in TIFF format. There is some uniformity to it...for example, all the column widths are the same. I want to de-limit this sheet by those known-column widths and basically create lots of little graphic files, one for each cell, and run OCR on them and store it into a database. The problem is that the horizontal lines are not all the same height, so I need to use some kind of graphics library command to check if every pixel across is the same color (i.e. black). And if so, then I know I've reached the height-delimiter for a cell. How would I go about doing that? (I'm using RMagick)

• Why do .png backgrounds appear black on iPhone device but not simulator?

  I started with a .tiff file and used GraphicConverter to change it to a .png and set a transparency color. Worked fine in the simulator but when I pushed to the device the transparency color became black. Tested with a .png I downloaded from the net and that worked fine, so it seems to only happen with some files. Thus I suspect it has something to do with the way GraphicConverter writes the .pngs, but I don't know enough about file formats to debug it. Any ideas/suggestions? Ideally I'd like to programatically treat all .pngs because my app allowed dynamic loading of arbitrary files, so I can't verify the transparency beforehand.

• Black flicker while resizing translucent Qt widget (only when Aero is enabled)?

  I have a top-level Qt widget with the FramelessWindowHint flag and the WA_TranslucentBackground attribute set. It has several children, each of which draws an image on it. They are not in a layout. Instead, I simply move them around when something changes (it is not user-resizable). There are two states to the window - a big state and a small state. When I switch between them, I resize the window and reposition the children. The problem is that as the window resizes, a black box is briefly flashed on the top-level window before the images are painted over it. The problem goes away if I disable Aero. I found brief mention of this problem being fixed in an article describing a new release of Qt (this release is long past), but it still doesn't work. Any ideas why? Thanks!

  What's the best and most flexible algorithm to detect any black (or colored pixel) in a given image file? Say I'm given an image file that could, say, have a blue background. And any non blue pixel, including a white pixel, is counted as a "mark". The function returns true if there are X number of pixels that deviate from each other at a certain threshold. I thought it'd be fastest to just simply iterate through every pixel and see if its color matches the last. But if it's the case that pixel (0,0) is deviant, and every other pixel is the same color (and I want to allow at least a couple deviated pixels before considering an image to be "marked), this won't work or be terribly efficient.

  The address bar background color in Google Chrome is black. I cannot see what I'm typing. What's going on? This is a problem when you're typing in a URL you've never used before (so there's no matching history). Type in a URL you've never used before. Imagine someone is giving it to you over the phone. Make a typo somewhere. Use the back arrow to go back and correct it. You cannot see where the cursor is. This just started happening yesterday. I'm on WinXP Pro.

• Proliant server will not accept new hard disks in RAID 1+0?

  I have a HP ProLiant DL380 G5, I have two logical drives configured with RAID. I have one logical drive RAID 1+0 with two 72 gb 10k sas 1 port spare no 376597-001. I had one hard disk fail and ordered a replacement. The configuration utility showed error and would not rebuild the RAID. I presumed a hard disk fault and ordered a replacement again. In the mean time I put the original failed disk back in the server and this started rebuilding. Currently shows ok status however in the log I can see hardware errors. The new disk has come and I again have the same problem of not accepting the hard disk. I have updated the P400 controller with the latest firmware 7.24 , but still no luck. The only difference I can see is the original drive has firmware 0103 (same as the RAID drive) and the new one has HPD2. Any advice would be appreciated. • Understanding what needs to be in place for a server to send outgoing email from a linux box

  I am attempting to configure an openSuse 11.1 box to send outgoing email for a domain that the same server is hosting. I don't understand enough about smtp servers and the like to know what needs to be in place and working. The system already had Postfix installed, and I confirmed it was running via a > sudo /etc/init.d/postfix status I examined the Postfix config file in /etc/main.cf and configured a couple of items regarding the domain/host name and such, but left it largely default. I attempted to send an email from the command line with the following command: > echo "test 123" | mail -s "test subject" [email protected] Where differentdomain.com was not the same domain as the one best hosted on the server. However, the email never reaches the target account. Any suggestions? EDIT: In the postfix log, (/var/log/mail.info, there's nothing in .err) I see that postfix is trying to connect to what appears to be a different smtp server on our network, with a connection refused: connect to ourdomain.com.inbound15.mxlogic.net[our ip address]:25: Connection refused However, I can't figure out why it is 1) trying to connect to that server and 2) not just sending the messages itself... I mean, isn't postfix an smtp server? I did a grep -ri on ourdomain from /etc and see no configuration files anywhere telling it to do this. Why is it?

• Why am I seeing MailSlot Browse messages on unrouted ports of my Linux box?

  I have a Linux box (Debian squeeze) with several NICs. The ones of interest are: eth3 - my main link to the network (dhcp on 10.20.30.0/24) eth0 - the first connection to my test network (static: 192.168.1.2) eth4 - the second connection to my test network (static: 192.168.1.1) My routing table looks like this: $ sudo route Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface 10.20.30.0 * 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 eth3 default 10.20.30.254 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 eth3 I have the 2 test net ports connected to each other with a crossover cable and an instance of wireshark running on each port. Every once in a while, I'll see a packet like the following show up. Who could be doing this, and how do I convince them to stop? I do have Samba running on the machine (for a cifs mount) but don't see why it would be sending packets out to unrouted ports. I had a Windows VM running in VMWare Client and thought that might be causing it, but it still happens without it. What I want is totally silent interfaces so I can run some tests with Scapy over them.

• Have an unprivileged non-account user ssh into another box?

  I know how to get a user to ssh into another box with a key: ssh -l targetuser -i path/to/key targethost But what about non-account users like apache? As this user doesn't have a home directory to which it can write a .ssh directory, the whole thing keeps failing with: $ sudo -u apache ssh -o StrictHostKeyChecking=no -l targetuser -i path/to/key targethost Could not create directory '/var/www/.ssh'. Warning: Permanently added '<hostname>' (RSA) to the list of known hosts. Permission denied (publickey). I've tried variations using -o UserKnownHostsFile=/dev/null and setting $HOME to /dev/null and none of these have done the trick. I understand that sudo could probably fix this for me, but I'm trying to avoid having to require a manual server config since this code will be deployed on a number of different environments. Any ideas?   I noticed that my 10.6.6 box has some process send out ICMP messages to "random" hosts, which concerns me a lot. when doing a tcpdump icmp I see a lot of the following 15:41:14.738328 IP macpro > bzq-109-66-184-49.red.bezeqint.net: ICMP macpro udp port websm unreachable, length 36 15:41:15.110381 IP macpro > 99-110-211-191.lightspeed.sntcca.sbcglobal.net: ICMP macpro udp port 54045 unreachable, length 36 15:41:23.458831 IP macpro > 188.122.242.115: ICMP macpro udp port websm unreachable, length 36 15:41:23.638731 IP macpro > 61.85-200-21.bkkb.no: ICMP macpro udp port websm unreachable, length 36 15:41:27.329981 IP macpro > c-98-234-88-192.hsd1.ca.comcast.net: ICMP macpro udp port 54045 unreachable, length 36 15:41:29.349586 IP macpro > c-98-234-88-192.hsd1.ca.comcast.net: ICMP macpro udp port 54045 unreachable, length 36 I got suspicious when my router notified me about a lot of ICMP messages that don't get a response [INFO] Mon Jan 10 16:31:47 2011 Blocked outgoing ICMP packet (ICMP type 3) from 192.168.1.189 to 212.25.57.90 Does anyone know how to trace which process (or worse kernel module) might be responsible for this? I rebooted and logged in with a virgin user account and tcpdump showed the same results. Any dtrace magic welcome. Thanks in advance
