  Anyone know why only undirectional serialization is supported in the Linq designer? Consider the following example: Say we have a Customer who requested an Order containing Products. We set the Serialization Mode in the Linq designer to Unidirectional to enable serialization. When looking at the code for the Order object, the DataMember attribute is added to all its internal properties such as ID,OrderNumber, etc. and also to the EntitySet of Products, but not to Customer. One can get around this by manually adding the DataMember attribute to Customer, but this becomes quite cumbersome when there's loads of entities in the database.

• Symfony dynamic subdomains

  Hi all, I'm trying to match subdomains to a customer id in symfony. i.e. i have customer1.example.com and customer2.example.com Domains are stored in a table. When a user goes to customer1.example.com, I would like to get the subdomain, look up the domain name in the database, once matched, it will then deploy the app config for that customer and then store the customer_Id in a global attribute so i know exactly which customer I'm dealing with througout the whole application. The virtual host will have the relevant wildcard servername. Have you managed to achieve this, and if so, how? If not, any ideas would be a great help! I'm thinking about using a filter to do it. :-)

  I am using Talend to populate a data warehouse. My job is writing customer data to a dimension table and transaction data to the fact table. The surrogate key (p_key) on the fact table is auto-incrementing. When I insert a new customer, I need my fact table to reflect the id of the related customer. As I mentioned my p_key is auto auto_incrementing so I can't just insert an arbitrary value for the p_key. Any thought on how I can insert a row into my dimension table and still retrieve the primary key to reference in my fact record? Thanks.

  After working through the Django tutorial I'm now trying to build a very simple invoicing application. I want to add several Products to an Invoice, and to specify the quantity of each product in the Invoice form in the Django admin. Now I've to create a new Product object if I've got different quantites of the same Product. Right now my models look like this (Company and Customer models left out): class Product(models.Model): description = models.TextField() quantity = models.IntegerField() price = models.DecimalField(max_digits=10,decimal_places=2) tax = models.ForeignKey(Tax) class Invoice(models.Model): company = models.ForeignKey(Company) customer = models.ForeignKey(Customer) products = models.ManyToManyField(Product) invoice_no = models.IntegerField() invoice_date = models.DateField(auto_now=True) due_date = models.DateField(default=datetime.date.today() + datetime.timedelta(days=14)) I guess the quantity should be left out of the Product model, but how can I make a field for it in the Invoice model?

• Passing to service custom class instance in WCF

  Hi, I have my custom class Customer with its properties. I added DataContract mark above the class and DataMember to properties and it was working fine, but I'm calling a service class's function, passing customer instance as parameter and some of my properties get 0 values. While debugging I can see my properties values and after it gets to the function, some properties' values are 0. Why it can be so? There's no code between this two actions. DataContract mark workes fine, everything's ok. Any suggestions on this issue? I tried to change ByRef to ByVal, but it doesn't change anything. Why it would pass other values right and some of integer types just 0? Maybe the answer is simple, but I can't figure it out.   So it seems like a lot of people are playing the blame game around where I work, and it brings up an interesting question. Knowns: Requirements team writes requirements for product. Developers create their own unit tests out of requirements. Testing team creates their general tests out of requirements and past customer issues. Product released if and only if X% of testcases from Testing team passes Customer response team gets bugs from the field, and lets the testing team know about these issues. Question: If the customer ends up filing a lot of defects, who is to blame? Is it the Testing team for not covering those? Or is it the requirements team for not writing better requirements? And how does one improve upon the system?

• Dynamics CRM 4.0 Campaign Response Workflow issue

  Hi I am pretty novice when it comes to CRM so hopefully someone can help me. I am trying to create a workflow that triggers when the campaign response is set to closed and then updates a few fields within the related 'Customers' record. I would have imagined that this would have been straight forward. However, when creating my workflow it appears that the 'Customer' is not in the related entitities list and therefore I cannot set the fields I require updating. I imagine that the issue is to do with the 'Customer' attribute being similar to the 'To'/'From' attributes on an email/phone call activity, whereas I need the attribute to resemble the 'Regarding' attribute. I presume I could create an attribute to replace 'customer' and apply all the appropriate relationships, but I dont really want to do this. Is there a simple way to get around this and/or am I missing something? Cheers

• Compound IDENTITY column in SQL SERVER 2008

  An Orders table has a CustomerId column and an OrderId column. For certain reasons it's important that OrderId is no longer than 2-bytes. There will be several million orders in total, which makes 2-bytes not enough. A customer will have no more than several thousand orders making 2-bytes enough. The obvious solution is to have the (CustomerId, OrderId) be unique rather than (OrderId) itself. The problem is generating the next Customer's OrderId. Preferably, without creating a separate table for each customer (even if it contains only an IDENTITY column), in order to keep the upper layers of the solution simple. Q: how would you generate the next OrderId so that (CustomerId, OrderId) is unique but OrderId itself is allowed to have repetitions? Does Sql Server 2008 have a built in functionality for doing this? For lack of a better term I'm calling it a Compound IDENTITY column.

  In my MVC application I have a Controller Action that Deletes a customer, which I'm applying Claims Based Authorization to using WIF. Problem: if someone doesn't have access they see an exception in the browser (complete with stacktrace), but I'd rather just redirect them.   Hi, I am using joomla Artio SEF for my website. I am using a form for new customer. So it uses index.php?form=newcustomer&Itemid=1 url as "joomla15/new-customer" as sef url. Now I need to add error message like index.php?form=newcustomer&Itemid=1&msg=".$msg after submitting this form. In this case it is not displaying as sef and showing "index.php?form=newcustomer&Itemid=1&msg=New Customer Received". I cld not use custom redirect also,becoz msg are dynamically generated.   Advice needed for backend form submission to aweber and get response. Scenario When customer signup at my form, I will 1. insert the customer details into my own database, 2. send them a welcome email from my system, 3. at the same time I want the email to be added into aweber (this should run in the background, so that customer no need to fill in details for second time) If I use the php curl call alone, is it a good solution? I want to submit form value to aweber, so that aweber add the new email into their system, and then response to my backend script?   Hi, is there any chance of getting the output from a MySQL query directly to XML? Im referring to something like MSSQL has with SQL-XML plugin, for example: SELECT * FROM table WHERE 1 FOR XML AUTO returns text (or xml data type in MSSQL to be precise) which contains an XML markup structure generated according to the columns in the table. With SQL-XML there is also an option of explicitly defining the output XML structure like this: SELECT 1 AS tag, NULL AS parent, emp_id AS [employee!1!emp_id], cust_id AS [customer!2!cust_id], region AS [customer!2!region] FROM table FOR XML EXPLICIT which generates an XML code as follows: <employee emp_id='129'> <customer cust_id='107' region='Eastern'/> </employee> Do you have any clues how to achieve this in MySQL? Line 36 project.id isn't raising a warning, so I assume the issue is that I'm calling ID on the Matching model. Why is it the case that only Matching raising an error and not customer or project? How can I change the output of the ShipDate in the XML file to the desired format? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  What is the best way of working with calculated fields of Propel objects? Say I have an object "Customer" that has a corresponding table "customers" and each column corresponds to an attribute of my object. What I would like to do is: add a calculated attribute "Number of completed orders" to my object when using it on View A but not on Views B and C. The calculated attribute is a COUNT() of "Order" objects linked to my "Customer" object via ID. What I can do now is to first select all Customer objects, then iteratively count Orders for all of them, but I'd think doing it in a single query would improve performance. But I cannot properly "hydrate" my Propel object since it does not contain the definition of the calculated field(s). How would you approach it?

  I have two customers that have the same workflow (Create file -transport file - wait for response - send response to internal team); however the implementation of each step is different for each customer. For example, one customer requires a flat file to be sent via SFTP, while the other customer requires an XML file to be sent via FTP. I'd like to create a sequential workflow, using Microsoft Workflow Foundation (WF) and reuse this workflow for multiple vendors. Each action's call to an external module can use the same interface, but a different concrete implementation. However, I'm unfamiliar with WF and I'm not sure how to implement this. Can someone point me to the proper way to use this pattern? Will it make a difference whether I choose WF 3.5 or WF 4.0? Thank you.

• Stop propagating deletes

  Is it just me or is anyone else finding EF very difficult to use in a real app :( I'm using it as the data layer and have created custom business objects. I'm having difficulty converting the business objects back to EF objects and updating/adding/deleting from the database. Does anyone know a good, simple example of doing this? Actually the current problem that's driving me nuts is when I delete something EF tries to delete other related stuff as well. For example, if I delete an invoice it will also delete the associated customer! Seems odd. I can't figure out how to stop it doing this. // tried: invoiceEfData.CustomerReference = null; // also tried invoiceEfData.Customer = null; context.DeleteObject(invoiceEfData); context.SaveChanges(); // at this point I get a database error due to it attempting to delete the customer

You define users, roles, permissions and we can control at any fine-grain level if a user can access the application, a certain page or even click a specific button. Is there a recipe or pattern, that allows on top of that, to restrict a user from seeing certain data ? Sample: You have a customer table for 3 factories (part of one company). An admin user can see all customer records, but the user at the local factory must not see any customer data of other factories (for whatever reason). • DBLinq not generating where clause

  I'm testing out DBLinq-0.18 and DBLinq from SVN Trunk with MySQL and Postgresql. I'm only using a very simple query but on both database DBLinq is not generating a Where clause. I have confirmed this by turning on statement logging on Postgresql to check exactly what request DBLinq is sending. My Linq query is: MyDB db = new MyDB(new NpgsqlConnection("Database=database;Host=localhost;User Id=postgres;Password=password")); var customers = from customer in db.Customers where customer.CustomerUserName == "test" select customer; The query works ok but the SQL generated by DBLinq is of the form: select customerusername, customerpassword .... from public.customers There is no Where clause which means DBLinq must be pulling the whole table down before running the Linq query. Has anyone had any experience with DBLinq and know what I could be doing wrong?
