  • Find value within a range in lookup table

    - by francis
I have the simplest problem to implement, but so far I have not been able to get my head around a solution in Python. I have built a table that looks similar to this one: 501 - ASIA 1262 - EUROPE 3389 - LATAM 5409 - US I will test a certain value to see if it falls within these ranges, 389 -> ASIA, 1300 -> LATAM, 5400 -> US. A value greater than 5409 should not return a lookup value. I normally have a one to one match, and would implement a dictionary for the lookup. But in this case I have to consider these ranges, and I am not seeing my way out of the problem. Maybe without providing the whole solution, could you provide some comments that would help me look in the right direction? It is very similar to a vlookup in a spreadsheet. I would describe my Python knowledge as somewhere in between basic to intermediate. Many thanks in advance.

  • How do you create a SQL query in Excel 2007 with a dynamic date range?

    - by Jordan
I am trying to create a reporting spreadsheet that can print reports for a given time period. The query below works, but when I try to use a "?" parameter in place of the date, I get an error after selecting a cell containing my date. If I use single quotes ('?') I get a conversion from string to date/time failure, if I don't (?) I get a syntax error near @p1. Eventually I will need either a start and end date or a formula adding a month or shift to the starting date/time to filter the data down to important information. The query was built in Microsoft Query. SELECT FloatTable.DateAndTime, TagTable.TagName FROM master.dbo.FloatTable FloatTable, master.dbo.TagTable TagTable WHERE FloatTable.TagIndex = TagTable.TagIndex AND ((FloatTable.DateAndTime={ts '2012-06-01 00:00:00'})) Any assistance would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • Producing dynamically generated range names in Excel using c#

    - by Matey
What is the best way to produce several tables of unknown size on the same worksheet? Values will be pulled from an oracle database and are used as values on several tables. Is it possible to create dynamic named ranges or is some other method desirable? I have some experience with c# but do not have access to VSTO 2005. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am willing to explain the problem further if requested.

  • Calculating end date while skipping holidays + Joda time

    - by picca

But: I have to skip holidays - non-recurrent situation I have to skip weekends - recurrent situation I have to not count working time (e.g: from 8:00am till 5:00pm) - recurrent situation, but with finer granularity Is there a simple way to achieve these cases using Joda time library?

  • Authoritative Excel range syntax reference

    - by olefevre
Sorry if this has been asked before but I can't find it. I am looking for an authoritative description of all valid strings that can be used as a reference, e.g., "A1:C5", "$A:$A", $A2" etc etc. That seems a pretty basic thing yet I've wasted hours trying to locate it. All I can find is a swamp of "helpful" examples but no reference.

  • StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of range 0

    - by Evan F
    I'm trying to write a program to take the first letter of the user input to generate a username. I'm trying to write it so that if the user leaves the input blank, then the letter that would otherwise be taken to generate the username defaults to the letter 'z'. Here is my full code: import java.util.Scanner; /** UsernameGenerator.java Generates a username based on the users inputs. @author: Evan Fravert */ public class UsernameGenerator { /** * Generates a username based on the users inputs. *@param args command line argument */ public static void main(String[] args) { // abcde String first; String middle; String last; String password1; String password2; int randomNum; randomNum = (int) (Math.random() * 1000) + 100; Scanner userInput = new Scanner(System.in); System.out.println("Please enter your first name:"); first = userInput.nextLine(); String firstLower = first.toLowerCase(); System.out.println("Please enter your middle name:"); middle = userInput.nextLine(); String middleLower = middle.toLowerCase(); System.out.println("Please enter your last name:"); last = userInput.nextLine(); int lastEnd = last.length()-1; String lastLower = last.toLowerCase(); System.out.println("Please enter your password:"); password1 = userInput.nextLine(); System.out.println("Please enter your password again:"); password2 = userInput.nextLine(); char firstLetter = firstLower.charAt(0); char middleLetter = middleLower.charAt(0); char lastLetter = lastLower.charAt(0); char lastLast = lastLower.charAt(lastEnd); if first.length() == 0) { firstLetter = 'z'; } else { firstLetter = firstLower.charAt(0); } System.out.println("Your username is " + firstLetter + "" + middleLetter + "" + lastLetter + "" + "" + lastLast + "" + randomNum); System.out.println("Your password is " + password1); System.out.println("Welcome " + first + " " + middle + " " + last + "!"); } }

  • Does any method exist quickly to detect valid range versions of used library

    - by daneel-yaitskov
I'm a beginner Haskell programmer. I have written some useful code for the last six month. And I want to release a library from it. The code will use system installation cabal as any Haskell library. A library is released with cabal has a meta data file where there is a logical predicate from the libraries and their versions. A developer usually uses one set libraries. It tediously care a set of the sets libraries. How to know either my library is compiled successfully or not for some subset libraries?

  • Sorting Files into Subfolders based on EXIF Date

    - by honestor
I have a huge directory from a HDD recovery that contains 70000+ JPEG files. I tried playing around with some AppleScripts, that I found, but had no luck. I already installed EXIFtool, which might be useful for this task. The current directory structure is as follows: dir001 - file0001.jpg ... - file9999.jpg dir002 - file0001.jpg ... - file9999.jpg ... dir070 - file0001.jpg - ... - file9999.jpg The files mostly have EXIF Data, but sometimes there are Files without metadata. Now I hope to be able to sort and rename these files into folders based on the date: 1999 - 1999 01 31 - 1999_01_31_-_22_59_59.jpg 2000 - 2000 05 20 - 2000_05_20_-_21_59_59.jpg - 2000_05_20_-_22_59_59.jpg I figured Applescript/Automator might come in handy for this, however every other solution would be welcome, too!
