• Drupal module for complex hours of operation / office hours

  Background: I am building a website in Drupal that links together a wide variety of social service providers for the purposes of discovery, collaboration, and all that good stuff. The goal is to make a website that is simple to browse for consumers of these services and simple to update for providers of these services. The beta has been very well received, but I want to switch to a different information schema before the site goes live. Specific question: I am looking for a module (or other solution) that... Stores this data in Drupal (i.e., no GCal) Supports a wide variety of repeats Is intuitive for people editing the node (no Cron-style interfaces, please!) I have looked into several modules on drupal.org and none seem to meet all of these criteria. I've also searched here, and while this question is similar: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2794149/drupal-create-a-node-with-employee-working-hours my needs are too complex for the offered solution. Some of these providers have "hours" such as "the third Wednesday of every month", or "open during Winter months", or separate hotline & office hours. Likewise, the Date Repeat module doesn't cut it as stands currently. I'm comfortable hacking what I need into an existing module - I just don't want to duplicate effort! If you have a suggestion on what module might be a good starting point, I'd appreciate that input, too. Thanks. <3

  I'm using a DataList to show some data from the database and populating the fields on the html side. I now have a requirement to change the visibility of a panel based on whether or not a db field has data or not. I need to be able to show the panel if the relevant data field has content, and hide it if it doesn't. Eg: <asp:Panel ID="pnlNew" runat="server" Style="margin:0; padding:0; width:42px; height:18px; bottom:5px; right:10px; float:right; position:relative; background:url(../_imgVideoBadge.png) no-repeat;" Visible='<%# Eval("cheese") != null %>' ToolTip="available"></asp:Panel> Obviously this doesn't work in terms of the visible property. But hopefully it gives an idea of what I'm trying to achieve. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've seen examples previously of doing something along the lines of: a ?? b:c How could this be applied to the above requirement?? Thanks in advance.

• Android opengl releasing textures

  I have a bit of a problem. I am developing a game for android + engine and I got stuck. I am getting OpenGL out of memory error and either app crashes or phone hangs after loading a scene multiple times. For example: app launches, shows main menu, 1st level/scene is loaded. Then I go back to main menu, and repeat. It doesnt matter which scene I load, after 4-6 times the error occurs. Some background: Each time when scene is loaded all the resources are released and upon first frame render - needed stuff gets loaded. The performance is more or less ok. Note that I am calling glDeleteTexture method, but I think its not doing its job and releasing memory. Thing is that -when I minimize and open it again - problem doesn't occur, but almost the same things are executed. Problem doesn't occur. This way android releases memory. How do I release/get rid of unused textures properly? This happens on HTC Desire HD ( ice cream sandwich 4.0.4) . Other games works fine, so I bet this is not the problem in ROM.

• Making a visual bar timer for iPhone

  I've looked up all results for progress bars and changing the width of an image but it only refers to scaling, and the progress bars aren't customizable so that they fit other functions or design schemes... unless I missed that part. I'm trying to make a bar timer that crops off of the right over a period of time. I tried using an NStimer so that it would subtract from a value each time its function is called. the Timerbar function gets called as a result of another timer invalidating and it works. What doesn't work is that the width isn't changing just the position. further more I keep getting values like Inf and 0 for power and pwrBarWidth I was sure that the changes would occur when Mult was plugged into the equation. it seems like casting mult as an int is causing problems but i'm not sure exactly how. int pwrBarMaxWidth = 137; int pwrBarWidth 0; int limit = 1; float mult; float power = 0; -(void) Timerbar:(NSTimer *)barTimer { if(!waitForPlayer) { [barTimer invalidate]; } if(mult > 0.0) { mult -= 0.001 * [colorChoices count]; if(mult < 0.0) { mult = 0.0; } } power = (mult * 10) / pwrBarMaxWidth; pwrBarWidth = (int)power % limit; // causes the bar to repeat after it reaches a certain point //At this point however the variable Power is always "inf" and PwrBarWidth is always 0.   hi, Say you retrieve a set of records from the datastore (something like: select * from MyClass where reserved='false'). how do i ensure that another user doesn't set the reserved is still false? I've looked in the Transaction documentation and got shocked from google's solution which is to catch the exception and retry in a loop. Any solution that I'm missing - it's hard to believe that there's no way to have an atomic operation in this environment. (btw - i could use 'syncronize' inside the servlet but i think it's not valid as there's no way to ensure that there's only one instance of the servlet object, isn't it? same applies to static variable solution) Any idea on how to solve??? (here's the google solution: http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/java/datastore/transactions.html#Entity_Groups look at: Key k = KeyFactory.createKey("Employee", "k12345"); Employee e = pm.getObjectById(Employee.class, k); e.counter += 1; pm.makePersistent(e); This requires a transaction because the value may be updated by another user after this code fetches the object, but before it saves the modified object. Without a transaction, the user's request will use the value of counter prior to the other user's update, and the save will overwrite the new value. With a transaction, the application is told about the other user's update. If the entity is updated during the transaction, then the transaction fails with an exception. • Quickest way to compare a buch of array or list of values.

  Can you please let me know on the quickest and efficient way to compare a large set of values. Its like there are a list of parent codes(string) and each code has a series of child values(string). The child lists have to be compared with each other and find out duplicates and count how many times they repeat. code1(code1_value1, code1_value2, code3_value3, ..., code1_valueN); code2(code2_value1, code1_value2, code2_value3, ..., code2_valueN); code3(code2_value1, code3_value2, code3_value3, ..., code3_valueN); . . . codeN(codeN_value1, codeN_value2, codeN_value3, ..., codeN_valueN); The lists are huge say like there are 100 parent codes and each has about 250 values in them. There will not be duplicates within a code list. Doing it in java and the solution i could figure out is. Store the values of first set of code in as codeMap.put(codeValue, duplicateCount). The count initialized to 0. Then compare the rest of the values with this. If its in the map then increment the count otherwise append it to the map. The downfall of this is to get the duplicates. Another iteration needs to be performed on a very large list. An alternative is to maintain another hashmap for duplicates like duplicateCodeMap.put(codeValue, duplicateCount) and change the initial hashmap to codeMap.put(codeValue, codeValue). Speed is what is requirement. Hope one of you can help me with it.

• Stopping a MATLAB GUI callback

  Dear All, I have a START and STOP button. When I hit START, i run a bunch of code in my callback. It's basically a sequential "script" that opens valves, dispenses water and then closes the valves...there is no while() loop and it doesn't repeat. I want to be able to stop this process at any time using the STOP button. Most of the related answers I've seen are in the cases where a while() loop is used. Some people have also suggested to periodically check if the STOP button was pressed (using a variable or handle variable). Since I do not have a while loop, I can't solve it that way. Also, I'd like to be able to exit immediately, without having to periodically check (because checking multiple times in my code would be ugly and confusing). Is there a way to terminate the callback which was interrupted by the STOP button? If not, is it possible to have the START button run a .m file and then have the STOP button terminate that .m file? The worst case scenario would be to check a variable periodically. I can get it to work in isolated test cases, but not in full use. • when to use Hibernate vs. Simple ResultSets for small application

  I just started working on upgrading a small component in a distributed java application. The main application is a rather complicated applet/servlet combo running on JBoss and it extensively uses Hibernate for its DataAccess. The component i am working on however is very a very straightforward data importing service. Basically the workflow is Listen for a network event Parse the data packet, extract a set of identifiers Map the identifier set to a primary key in our database Parse the rest of the packet and insert items in a related table using the foreign key found in step 3 Repeat in the previous version of this component it used a hibernate based DAL, that is no longer usable for a variety of reasons (in particular it is EOL), so I am in charge of replacing the Data Access layer for this component. So on the one hand I think i should use Hibernate because that's what the rest of the application does, but on the other i think i should just use regular java.sql.* classes because my requirements are really straightforward and aren't expected to change any time soon. So my question is (and i understand it is subjective) at what point do you think that the added complexity of using an ORM tool (in terms of configuration, dependencies...) is worth it? UPDATE due to the way the DataAccesLayer for the main application was written (weird dependencies) i cannot easily use it, i would have to implement it myself.

• PC to Macbook Pro Transition - Getting (re)started?

  I'm in my second computer science course right now. I've enjoyed programming so far, but really have just scraped my way by. I've not done much programming outside of required class work. For similar reasons, I never really invested in downloading/learning software to help me program (IDE's, editors, compilers, etc). I know it sounds tedious, but my current setup is: notepad++ for coding; Filezilla to transfer .cpp & .h files to school's aludra/unix and compiling; unix tells me where my bugs are and I go back to notepad++ to debug; repeat until done. This isn't fun - and I know it could be easier. But I put it off knowing that I was soon going to switch to a Mac. And, tomorrow, I'm switching. So... How should I set up my Macbook for the best programming experience? What IDEs and editors and debuggers and so on should I download? How will Mac programming differ from PC? I'm open to all ideas and comments, even the most basic. (Background - I'm learning/programming in C++ right now. Next semester, my classes switch to Java. I'm also going to take a class in web development, with HTML/CSS/Javascript/PHP. My new laptop will be a late 2009 Macbook Pro with Leopard, or maybe Snow Leopard. Free would be preferrable for all programs.) Thank you all.

• Looping the layout that was set up in Interface Builder

  I just need for someone to point me in the right direction of how I should be doing things. I wanted to make an iOS news like app that would have interface resembling Windows Phone. Large and small image tiles that represent one news item each. Now I was thinking to create some basic layout in storyboard, that would consist out of, for example, a title, and a 3 different sized tiles/images (the gray part on the attached image). Now, I would be getting the data as a JSON array that has holds different news categories so I was wondering if somehow the set up layout could be reused in a for loop since the layout will only repeat itself (the red part on the attached image) and oly the data would be different. Can this be done, should I even try doing something like this, or should I try to create an entire layout programmatically? I wouldn't mind doing it programatically, it's just that I don't have much experience in creating layouts that way, and wanted to make sure that I don't do something that I might regret later.   I have been at this for a long time. I have a css div that is center on page. It floats on bottom. When I add content to div #menu i can not get it to shift right. I want to add full menu that float on the page. It have a live chat button coded. • jquery form extension ajax

Using the above extension I can get them to successfully process and POST to ajax-process.php <script> // wait for the DOM to be loaded $(document).ready(function() { // bind 'myForm' and provide a simple callback function $('.myForm').ajaxForm(function() { alert("Thank you for your comment!"); }); }); </script> I'm having an issue however with the response. I need to get the comment that the user submitted to be displayed in the respective div that it was submitted from. I can either set this as a hidden field in the form, or as text in the ajax-process.php file. I can't work out how to get the response from ajax-process.php into something I can work with in the script, if I run the following it appends to all the forms (obviously). The only way I can think to do it is to repeat the script using individual DIV ID's instead of a single class. • Can't Add XSD to Class Project

  Background: I started with a large solution with many applications in it in VS 2008 and I'm trying to split it up. Steps to repeat: I create a new VS 2010 C# class project I right click and choose add existing item I choose the XSD file from my old project and import it. The original file is 67KB the imported file is 18KB Line 134,135 of the original file <Mapping SourceColumn="ConfigType" DataSetColumn="ConfigType" /> <Mapping SourceColumn="ConfigValue" DataSetColumn="ConfigValue" /> Line 135,136 of the resulting file <Mapping SourceColumn="ConfigType" DataSetColumn="ConfigType" /> <Mappi Part way through it's life my old project was upgrade from 2.0 to 3.5 so some of the code is. Manually copy and paste of the xsd source into the new file and updating the 2.0.0.0 to 4.0.0.0 allowed me to open it it in The GUI for editing XSD files. After fixing all the connection strings and right clicking on every query and clicking configure then finish I was able to gain access to one of the tableadapters out of 6. I'm stumped as to hoe to get this to compile. Once it compiles I'm open sourcing it so ask if you want to see the code.

• Is it good practise to blank out inherited functionality that will not be used?

  I'm wondering if I should change the software architecture of one of my projects. I'm developing software for a project where two sides (in fact a host and a device) use shared code. That helps because shared data, e.g. enums can be stored in one central place. I'm working with what we call a "channel" to transfer data between device and host. Each channel has to be implemented on device and host side. We have different kinds of channels, ordinary ones and special channels which transfer measurement data. My current solution has the shared code in an abstract base class. From there on code is split between the two sides. As it has turned out there are a few cases when we would have shared code but we can't share it, we have to implement it on each side. The principle of DRY (don't repeat yourself) says that you shouldn't have code twice. My thought was now to concatenate the functionality of e.g. the abstract measurement channel on the device side and the host side in an abstract class with shared code. That means though that once we create an actual class for either the device or the host side for that channel we have to hide the functionality that is used by the other side. Is this an acceptable thing to do: public abstract class MeasurementChannelAbstract { protected void MethodUsedByDeviceSide() { } protected void MethodUsedByHostSide() { } } public class DeviceMeasurementChannel : MeasurementChannelAbstract { public new void MethodUsedByDeviceSide() { base.MethodUsedByDeviceSide(); } } Now, DeviceMeasurementChannel is only using the functionality for the device side from MeasurementChannelAbstract. By declaring all methods/members of MeasurementChannelAbstract protected you have to use the new keyword to enable that functionality to be accessed from the outside. Is that acceptable or are there any pitfalls, caveats, etc. that could arise later when using the code?

• Rails: associate model with two of its kind
