• Windows Server 2008 constantly spamming external IP's on outbound TCP port 445

  Hi Server Fault, I have a Windows Server 2008 box running as a Domain Controller. I have noticed in my Cisco ASA firewall logs that this box is continuously sending out (like a thousand requests a second) requests on TCP port 445 to external hosts. I have made an effort to deny this outbound traffic from getting on the internet (using the ASA), however I would like these requests to stop from even occurring at all. I have tried disabling TCP/IP over NetBIOS. I have even turned on Windows Advanced Firewall on the box itself to block outbound 445 but the ASA still detects this particular traffic hitting it. I have other DC's and similar type boxes which are not behaving the same way as this box. Is this normal? Is there a way to stop this spamming? Have I been infected? Thank you universe.

• VPN provider for remote access to servers from a known IP address

  My organization has a few servers that are being hosted by a provider and we limit remote access to a whitelist and deny access to any IPs not on the whitelist. We would like to find a hosted VPN service that we can connect to that would give us a known IP that we could add to our whitelist and gain access to the servers while on the road. Does anyone know of any such services? I don't think we can just setup the VPN built in to Windows Server since the servers are hosted. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  I want to connect two computer via serial but for each to see each other via a TCP/IP connection. Ie, create new ethernet ports on the computers that are in actual fact serial ports. The reason for this is that I am actually testing the medium in which the serial connection is made (wireless), and part of the experiment will be to use TCP/IP. Preferably I would use something that I can configure (max packet size and setting serial delimiters).

  Two linux servers, server1 and server2, are on the same local network (they also have access to an external network). Server2 has a local IP of 192.168.0.2 and a host name of host2.mydomain.com. QUESTION 1: If an application on server1 sends traffic to server2 using a host name of host2.mydomain.com, what determines whether this traffic is routed to server2 using the local or external network? QUESTION 2: To ensure that all traffic sent from server1 to server2 always uses the local network, could I simply include in the server1 /etc/hosts file the following? 192.168.0.2 host2.mydomain.com ...the thinking being, if the servers are always on the same network there should never be a need for server2 to send traffic to server1 via the external network (that I can think of anyway). Is this done in practice, or is some other method preferred?

  For an example, I have two authorized client computers, 1.1.1.1 and 2.1.1.1. My server running iptables is 3.1.1.1 and my firewalled web server is 4.1.1.1. When one of the authorized client IPs connects to 3.1.1.1 on port 80, I would like the connection to be forwarded to 4.1.1.1 on port 8888. If any other IP attempts to connect I would like it to refuse/drop the connection. What iptables config would accomplish this? Is there something more specific out there that would be better suited for this job?

  I have three SSID. one is a guest network and I'm having problems with lease times. Its set for web authentication so it passes IPs out even if someone doesn't try and authenticate. Is there a way to get that IP back and not hand another to that mac for a period of time? Poor planning and we didn't allocate enough address space, and we are sandwitched. We could go with another address, but we would have to reconfig lots. since its guest its vlan'd with no access to anthing but the firewalls. would have to change ACLs and routes and interfaces. if it isn't possible we will just have to go that route, just thought there might be an easier solution. session timeout is enabled with 1 hr lease time is set to 4 hrs. no helper DHCP and internal DHCP is set with the space split across three WLCs (60 waps split across those as well).

  Hey guys I'm trying to use a RegularexpressionValidator to match an IP address (with possible wildcards) for an IP filtering system. I'm using the following Regex: "([0-9]{1,3}\\.|\\*\\.){3}([0-9]{1,3}|\\*){1}" Which works fine when running it in LINQPad with Regex.Matches, but doesn't seem to work when I'm using the validator. • Reverse proxy with SSL and IP passthrough?

  Turns out that the IP of a much-needed new website is blocked from inside our organization's network for reasons that will take weeks to fix. In the meantime, could we set up a reverse proxy on an Internet-based server which will forward SSL traffic and perhaps client IPs to the external site? Load will be light. No need to terminate SSL on the proxy. We may be able to poison DNS so original URL can work. How do I learn if I need URL rewriting? Squid/apache/nginx/something else? Setup would be fastest on Win 2000, but other OSes are OK if that would help. Simple and quick are good since it's a temporary solution. Thanks for your thoughts!

  I have this in my ~/.ssh/config directory: Host 12.34.56.78 IdentityFile ~/.ssh/my_identity_file When I ssh to 12.34.56.78, everything works fine. I'm asked for the passphrase for "my_identity_file" and I can connect to the server. However, sometimes I'd also like to ssh to another server. But whatever the server, if I do: ssh [email protected] I'm also asked for the passphrase for "my_identity_file" (even though the server has a different ip address). This is very annoying because I don't have the public key for this file set up on all my servers. I'd like to connect to this other server (an old shared hosting account) with a password, and now I cant. How do I manage to use the key authentication only with one server, and keep using password by default for servers that aren't listed in my ~/.ssh/config ? Thanks for your help.

We are having a network problem: My partner can access an internal website using the domain name, e.g. http://website.name, but I can only access that website using the direct IP, e.g. 192.168.1.85. I can not ping that web server using "ping website.name" but it works if I using "ping 192.168.1.85". I want to use the domain name. Please help.

• Ubuntu in Virtualbox - web server very slow when using local IP address

  I'm using Ubuntu (Lucid Lynx) to learn Ruby On Rails. I'm running Ubuntu in VirtualBox (the host is Windows 7 Ultimate), using bridged networking. When I run my Rails app and point the browser at it using localhost:3000, the app responds immediately and my page is rendered in a second or two. However, if I use 10.0.0.5:3000 (where 10.0.0.5 is my IP address reported using ifconfig), the response from my rails app is incredibly slow - maybe 30 seconds or more for the server to respond and render the page. This happens in both Firefox and Chrome. Also, when I hit the Rails app from the host (to test it in IE), I get the same slooooooow response. Any ideas what might be going on? I've tried it with two different routers, and on two different networks (work and home) with the same result. Cheers all.

  I have a problem with my web server; I can't access it from the external IP address. I'm using an IIS 7 server, but I've tried with apache on Linux as well. I have forwarded all traffic on port 80 to my computer, but it just won't work. I've done port forwarding with my Minecraft server, and it did work, but when I try it with a web server, no. I've been looking on many many forums, but their methods don't work for me. My router is a Speedport W 723V, if anyone knows that one. Any help is appreciated.

• ssh can't connect after server ip changed

  I have a server with ubuntu installed. After I change the network configuration and restart server, ssh client can't connect server any more. But in the server I can use ssh client to connect itself and the netstat command shows that sshd is listening port 22. And in my computer (win7) ping command is OK to server's new IP. The configuration in /etc/network/interfaces is: auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 10.80.x.x netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 10.80.x.1 I'm very confused about this.   How do I setup an IP alias on a bridge (br0) device on Ubuntu ? If I wait for br0 to come up and then do /sbin/ifconfig br0:0 192.168.10.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 then it works fine.   I'm looking into virtualizing a Hylafax server which currently runs on a dedicated hardware running CentOS with a Divalogic card. The main issue obviously is, how to connect the modem to the VM. There are serial over IP devices available at digi.com. Maybe there are others? Regarding digi.com devices, as far as I understood one can install the RealPort software and then have a /dev/ttySx device presented to the Linux server. This device then can be used as serial connection to the modem. Does someone have such a configuration in place? Or does someone have another idea to virtualize a Hylafax server (outbound faxes only). Thank you in advance

  I have an citrix application server in SiteB and I have a Farm in SiteA. We want to add this server into that Farm in SiteB, and access it from the internet via web interface. SiteA and SiteB are connected via VPN. But we would like to do that in a way the ICA traffic goes directly to the application server public IP (behind NAT) in siteB without using siteA and the VPN to route this traffic.   I lost access to my instance which I host on AWS. Keypairing stopped to work. I detached a volume and attached it to a new instance and what I found in logs was a long list of Nov 6 20:15:32 domU-12-31-39-01-7E-8A sshd[4925]: Invalid user cyrus from 210.193.52.113 Nov 6 20:15:32 domU-12-31-39-01-7E-8A sshd[4925]: input_userauth_request: invalid user cyrus [preauth] Nov 6 20:15:33 domU-12-31-39-01-7E-8A sshd[4925]: Received disconnect from 210.193.52.113: 11: Bye Bye [preauth] Where "cyrus" is changed by hundreds if not thousands of common names and items. What could this be? Brute force attack or something else malicious? I traced IP to Singapore, and I have no connection to Singapore. May thought is that this was a DoS attack since I lost access and server seemed to stop working. Im not to versed on this, but ideas and solutions for this issue are welcome.

  I have a Linux server which is compromised, I can see nasty looking perl scripts executing with root privileges. I want to get some data off it before I wipe it. How can I block all inbound and outbound traffic except for my ip? It's a Centos server I assume i can do this with iptables? I'm aware a the server is rooted there is a possibility that attackers could have made changes on the server that would prevent this from working. Ill be testing to make sure and only have the server online for a couple of hours before it is nuked.
