• C# calendar needs BL for real-time reminders?

  The calendar is done and now we are wanting to add email, SMS and voice-call reminders. We are using jQuery, C#, .Net & SQL Server 08. No restrictions on our options. I know how to add the API calls and services to initiate these reminders. I am asking for advise about how to approach a reliable timely listener service that knows to call the service or API for the reminder before an appointment. EG. SMS: "You have a conference call in 30 minutes."

• How to use urlencoded urls with the GA tracking code

  I've got a site where a booking page has an iframe embedded with the actual booking form. I need to track traffic from the parent site to the child iframe. This should all work just fine with the normal GA code, using javascript like: <script type="text/javascript"> try { var pageTracker = _gat._getTracker("<UA CODE HERE>"); pageTracker._setDomainName("none"); pageTracker._setAllowLinker(true); pageTracker._setAllowHash(false); pageTracker._trackPageview(); } catch(err) {}</script> And then ofcourse using the _getLinkerUrl() function to get a url with the proper parameters. So far so good - this basically works (at least I know the principle works as I've got it working on other pages). However, and this is the problem: the server that serves up the page in the iframe was configured by a complete and utter moron (or, alternatively, created by a complete and utter moron). It chokes on '=' characters, so in order to request the iframe page I need to urlencode the '=' signs - but the GA code seems unable to parse the url when this is done. So the questions: 1. has anyone come across this? 2. does anyone know of any solutions to this problem?

• jQuery Address plugin: I want to manage the tracking on my own

  I'm using the great (IMHO) jQuery Address plugin but it's been driving me insane since I didn't know that it automatically tracked the pages on Google Analytics. How do I keep it from doing it? I tried this but apparently it's never called. $.address.tracker(function(){console.log("hello")}) I guess I could somehow overwrite the function in the plugin but I hope there's a better way...

• Tracking changes to individual fields - Silverlight

  I have a page which has got several text boxes. These controls are bound to a model. I am using MVVM. Assume I have three text boxes, FirstName, LastName and Company. So in the model, I have three properties to bind. Now I need to track the changes happened to each field. If FirstName changes from original value, I need the text box to be colored with a different background color. Currently I am creating another property called FirstNameChanged and binding the background to this property. This will be updated when I change the FirstName. For 3 fields, this seems to be OK. But when I have more fields, the number of properties will be too much. Is there a better way to handle this?

• Advice on whether to use scripting, run time compile or something else

  I work in the prodution area at my works and I design and create the software to run our automated test equipment. Everytime I get involved with a new machine I end up with a different and (hopefully) better design. Anyway I have come to the point where I feel I need to start standardization all the machines with the same program. I see a problem when it comes to applying updates as at the moment the test procedures are hard coded into the program at each station. I neeed to be able to update the core program without affecting the testing section. The way I see it that this will mean splitting the program into 2 sections. Main UI - This is the core that talks to everything on the machine such as cameras, sensors, printer etc and is a standalone application. Test Procedure - This is the steps that is executeted everytime the machine runs through a test. The main UI will load the test procedure and execute when ever a test is required. My question is what is the best approach to this in terms of having an application load a file and execute the code with in? Take into account that the code in the test procedure will need access to public methods on the UI/core system to communicate to sensors etc. I have heard about MS Roslyn and had a quick look, would this solve my issue?

• Why does my FPS drop gradually over time?

  I'm working on this game: yt alpha preview I came into a huge game-breaking problem - after 10-15 min of gameplay the FPS drops from 60 to 30 and is very unstable. I'm using tons of physics and particles, I'm deleting and nulling everything I can after it's supposed to be removed, I remove objects from vectors etc. The memory usage is stable at around 150mb so a leak is unlikely (or invisible?)- after a round ends and I delete everything, play a new round and performance is still terrible. I spent two days trying to figure this out and I just can't fix it. Maybe I'm missing something? I know it's hard to help with no code but I would just have to post my whole source.

  I have this weird situation: When I do on rails console Time.now or Time.zone.now I get the same values (suppose they run at the sime time: 2014-06-05 23:38:06 -0300) But when I use Time.now in a query like: Match.where("datetime = ?", Time.now) it returns the time 3 hours ahead! .to_sql output: SELECT `matches`.* FROM `matches` WHERE (datetime = '2014-06-06 02:38:06') any thoughts on that?   Hey Guys, I'm just beginning to play with the Twitter Streaming API. If I specify $sc-setTrack(array('just bought from')); This will correctly pull only tweets that have all 3 keywords - but doesn't maintain the order. 1) I want the keywords to appear in the same order like "I just bought apple from itunes" but the above also returns tweets like "I bought some apples and just removed them from the bag" 2) Is there a way to specify the exact words say "NBA basketball" with nothing in between - in the sense I dont want tweets like this to be returned Watching basketball on NBA tv I just want tweets which contain the exact phrase to be returned like I love watching NBA basketball 3) Also is there a way to specify negative keywords Any tips if this is possible.   I don't like issue tracking systems because: It takes too much time to describe issues in it. This discourage its usage. You create a place to keep your bugs. And if there is a place for them, people usually don't care too much about fixing a bug cause they can put it there so that someday someone can fix it (or not). With time, the bug lists gets so long that nobody can deal with it anymore, taking up a lot of our time. I prefer handling issues using post-its on a white board, face-to-face conversations and killing important bugs as soon as they appear. I don't care too much to keep track of bug history because I don't think that it is worth the overhead. Am I alone here? Are there studies (book/article/whatever) about the disadvantages (or great advantages) of using issue tracking systems?

  With normal form submission I use the pattern Post / Redirect / Get, when processing the forms. I have a database application built with Django. I want to allow the users to select a number of items from the database, then launch a computationally intensive task based on those items. I expect the task to take between 10 minutes and 2 hours to complete. Is there a standard approach to dealing with requests like this (i.e. that don't return immediately)? Ideally there would be some way to display the progress.

  I have added a new model (call it crm_lead_external) that is linked via a new one2many on crm_lead. Thus, my module has two models defined: an updated crm_lead (with _name=crm_lead) and a new crm_lead_external. This external model tracks a file and as such has a 'filename' field. I also created a unique SQL index on this filename field. This is part of my module: def copy(self, cr, uid, id, default=None, context=None): if not default: default = {} default.update({ 'state': 'new', 'filename': '', }) ret = super(crm_lead_external, self).copy(cr, uid, id, default, context=context) #do file copy return ret The intent here is to allow an external entity to be duplicated, but to retarget the file path. Now, if I click duplicate on the Lead, I get an IntegrityError on my unique constraint. Is there a particular reason why copy() isn't being called? Should I add this logic to copy_data()? Myst I really override copy() for the lead? Thanks in advance.

• how to get more vacation time than "policy" allows

  At my company, the maximum vacation is 3 weeks for everyone but executives. Therefore I cannot even start negotiating for an increase to 4 weeks.. it's a non-starter because it's "against policy"... even though I think my experience and value to the company warrant it, and I've gotten 4 weeks at previous jobs. (I know I could have made a "hard stand" before taking this job, but that's water under the bridge) Any advice? I was kind of thinking of taking the "you want to be competitive" tack to get them to change their policy but I don't know where to find the kind of data I would need to support that.
