• Android layout issue - relative widths in percent using weight

- by cdonner
I am trying to assign relative widths to columns in a ListView that is in a TabHost, using layout_weight as suggested here: <TabHost xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@android:id/tabhost" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <LinearLayout android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <TabWidget android:id="@android:id/tabs" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"/> <FrameLayout android:id="@android:id/tabcontent" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <TableLayout android:id="@+id/triplist" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:paddingTop="4px"> <TableRow> <ListView android:id="@+id/triplistview" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"/> </TableRow> <TableRow> </TableRow> [other tabs ...] My row definition has 4 columns that I would like to size as follows: <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:orientation="horizontal" android:weightSum="1.0" android:padding="4px"> <TextView android:id="@+id/rowtripdate" android:layout_weight=".2" android:layout_width="0dip" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:inputType="date"/> <TextView android:id="@+id/rowodostart" android:layout_weight=".2" android:layout_width="0dip" android:layout_height="wrap_content"/> <TextView android:id="@+id/rowodoend" android:layout_weight=".2" android:layout_width="0dip" android:layout_height="wrap_content"/> <TextView android:id="@+id/rowcomment" android:layout_weight=".4" android:layout_width="0dip" android:layout_height="wrap_content"> Unfortunately, it seems to want to fit all the columns into the space that the button occupies, as opposed to the width of the screen. Or maybe there is another constraint that I do not understand. I'd appreciate your help.

• Android orientation change causes ImageView to dissapear

- by Jarrod Smith
Below is my layout for the row template in a SimpleCursorAdapter. The ImageView with id next_arrow disappears on orientation change. If I replace @drawable/arrow with @drawable/icon (copy of the standard sym_def_app_icon) it works fine. I thought it might be somehow related to the icons being of different dimensions, but I resized @drawable/icon to be the exact same dimensions as the arrow and it still worked fine while the arrow didn't. <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="horizontal" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="90dp" android:background="@drawable/product_list_divider" android:paddingTop="10dp"> <ImageView android:src="@drawable/ninja_20_65" android:id="@+id/category_icon" android:layout_marginLeft="20dp" android:layout_marginRight="20dp" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_marginTop="3dp"/> <LinearLayout android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_weight="5" android:layout_width="0dp" android:layout_height="wrap_content"> <TextView android:id="@+id/category_name" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Name" style="@style/CategoryHeading" android:layout_marginTop="5dp"/> <TextView android:id="@+id/category_description" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Description" style="@style/CategoryDescription"/> </LinearLayout> <ImageView android:src="@drawable/arrow" android:layout_weight="1" android:layout_width="0dp" android:layout_marginRight="10dp" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_marginTop="20dp" android:id="@+id/next_arrow"/> </LinearLayout>

• Mimicking the UltraGridColumnChooser's drag & drop ability

- by Sören Kuklau
(Infragistics 2008 Vol. 3, CLR 2.0) Infragistics's UltraGrid comes with a column chooser user control, which is simply a vertical arrangement of columns with checkboxes that toggle a column's hidden state. In addition, it allows you to pick a column and drag it directly to the grid so you don't have to manually position it afterwards. (This is particularly handy when you already have a lot of visible columns and have no clue where the new one ended up.) I'm building my own column chooser based on an UltraTree. Getting the checkboxes to behave the same wasn't an issue, but I haven't found a way to drag a column from the tree to the grid and have it accept it. In my tree, each UltraTreeNode has a Tag with the following struct: Private Structure DraggableGridColumn Public NodeKey As String Public NodeName As String Public ParentKey As String Public Column As UltraGridColumn End Structure I then have an event as follows: Private Sub columnsTree_SelectionDragStart(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles columnsTree.SelectionDragStart If columnsTree.SelectedNodes.Count <> 1 Then Return End If If Not TypeOf columnsTree.SelectedNodes(0).Tag Is DraggableGridColumn Then Return End If Dim column As UltraGridColumn = CType(columnsTree.SelectedNodes(0).Tag, DraggableGridColumn).Column columnsTree.DoDragDrop(column, DragDropEffects. All) End Sub In the DoDragDrop call, neither column (of type UltraGridColumn) nor column.Header (of type ColumnHeader) get accepted by the grid. I assume I'm sending the wrong type, and/or that the grid expects a special struct with some additional information. Unfortunately, I've also failed to catch an event (both on the column chooser side as well as on the grid side) where Infragistics's normal column chooser does this properly; the normal drag & drop events never seem to fire.

• How to draw an Arc in OpenGL

- by rpgFANATIC
While making a little Pong game in C++ OpenGL, I decided it'd be fun to create arcs (semi-circles) when stuff bounces. I decided to skip Bezier curves for the moment and just go with straight algebra, but I didn't get far. My algebra follows a simple quadratic function (y = +- sqrt(mx+c)). This little excerpt is just an example I've yet to fully parameterize, I just wanted to see how it would look. When I draw this, however, it gives me a straight vertical line where the line's tangent line approaches -1.0 / 1.0. Is this a limitation of the GL_LINE_STRIP style or is there an easier way to draw semi-circles / arcs? Or did I just completely miss something obvious? void Ball::drawBounce() { float piecesToDraw = 100.0f; float arcWidth = 10.0f; float arcAngle = 4.0f; glBegin(GL_LINE_STRIP); for (float i = 0.0f; i < piecesToDraw; i += 1.0f) // Positive Half { float currentX = (i / piecesToDraw) * arcWidth; glVertex2f(currentX, sqrtf((-currentX * arcAngle)+ arcWidth)); } for (float j = piecesToDraw; j > 0.0f; j -= 1.0f) // Negative half (go backwards in X direction now) { float currentX = (j / piecesToDraw) * arcWidth; glVertex2f(currentX, -sqrtf((-currentX * arcAngle) + arcWidth)); } glEnd(); } Thanks in advance.

• css display:table first column too wide

- by Mestore
I have a css table setup like this:

name details

The css for the table is: .table{ display:table; width:100%; } .table div{ text-align:right; display:table-row; border-collapse: separate; border-spacing: 0px; } .table div span:first-child { text-align:right; } .table div span { vertical-align:top; text-align:left; display:table-cell; padding:2px 10px; } As it stands the two columns are split evenly between the space occupied by the width of the table. I'm trying to get the first column only to be as wide as is needed by the text occupying it's cells The table is an unknown width, as are the columns/cells.

• Adding View extending from SurfaceView to layout gives me a blank screen

- by JonF
I'm very new to Android programming, so this is probably something pretty basic. I just have an xml layout with a few buttons. I'm trying to follow the model given by the JetBoy demo, so I'm adding a view to the layout which extends SurfaceView. When this new view is put in my xml layout, I just get a blank screen. Here's the XML layout if it helps. The gameview element is what causes the screen to be blank <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:alwaysDrawnWithCache="true"> <game.test.gameEngine android:id="@+id/gameView" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"/> <DatePicker android:id="@+id/DatePicker01" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content"></DatePicker> </LinearLayout>

• Implementing a listview inside a sliding drawer with a listview already present

- by Parker
I have an app whose main class extends ListActivity: public class GUIPrototype extends ListActivity { @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); final Cursor c = managedQuery(People.CONTENT_URI, null, null, null, null); String[] from = new String[] {People.NAME}; int[] to = new int[] { R.id.row_entry }; SimpleCursorAdapter adapter = new SimpleCursorAdapter(this,R.layout.drawer,c,from,to); setListAdapter(adapter); getListView().setTextFilterEnabled(true); } } I have a sliding drawer included in my XML, and I'm trying to get a separate listview to appear in the sliding drawer. I'm trying to populate the second listview using an inflater: View inflatedView = View.inflate(this, R.layout.main, null); ListView namesLV = (ListView) inflatedView.findViewById(R.id.content); String[] names2 = new String[] { "CS 345", "New Tag", "Untagged" }; ArrayAdapter<String> bb = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, R.layout.main, R.id.row_entry, names2); namesLV.setAdapter(bb); This compiles, and runs, but the slidingdrawer is completely blank. My XML follows: <SlidingDrawer android:id="@+id/drawer" android:handle="@+id/handle" android:content="@+id/content" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_gravity="bottom"> <ImageView android:id="@id/handle" android:layout_width="48px" android:layout_height="48px" android:background="@drawable/icon"/> <ListView android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:id="@id/content"/> </SlidingDrawer> I feel like I'm missing a vital step. I haven't found any resources on my problem by Googling, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Android Home Screen Widget (icon, label - style)

- by dmulligan
I'm trying to create an icon/widget (1 cell x 1 cell) that can be placed on the home screen of android. The widget will look and act exactly like the other standard shortcuts in android. It will have an icon and under that a label, it will be selectable with the trackball (highlight able) it will be highlighted when it is selected/clicked. How do I go about creating this home screen widget? Do I have to create the widget myself using code/xml or is there some standard xml, style, theme, code that I can use to ensure that the widget will have the same style/theme as the other home screen widgets? I currently have the following res/drawable/corners.xml <shape xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/Corners"> <stroke android:width="4dp" android:color="#CC222222" /> <padding android:left="4dp" android:top="1dp" android:right="4dp" android:bottom="1dp" /> <corners android:radius="4dp" /> </shape> res/layout/widget.xml <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/Widget" android:layout_width="72dip" android:layout_height="72dip" android:orientation="vertical" android:focusable="true" android:gravity="center_horizontal" style="@android:style/Widget" > <ImageView android:id="@+id/WidgetIcon" android:src="@drawable/icon" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="50dip" android:paddingTop="3dip" android:gravity="center" /> <TextView android:id="@+id/WidgetLabel" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:text="@string/app_name" android:textSize="15dip" android:background="@drawable/corners" /> </LinearLayout> The resulting widget looks some what close, but its not selectable, it doesn't get highlighted when clicked and the label isn't exactly in the correct location or the correct style. Any ideas, if there is a correct way to do this, or should I just keep working away on the above until I am closer?

• Android: failed to setContentView when switching to ListActivity

- by Yang
This is an follow-up issue on my previous question http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2548304/android-which-view-should-i-use-for-showing-text-and-image I read the article about creating ListView for LinearLayout. However, my following code failed at the setContentView() function when I changed "extends Activity" to "extends ListActivity", any idea why? private TextView mSelection; //private ImageView mImages; static final String[] keywords = new String[]{"China", "Japan", "USA", "Canada"}; /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.contactLayout); mSelection = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.ContactNames); ArrayAdapter adapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, R.layout.contactlayout, R.id.ContactNames,keywords); setListAdapter(adapter); } My Layout is from this article: http://www.curious-creature.org/2009/02/22/android-layout-tricks-1/ <RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="?android:attr/listPreferredItemHeight" android:padding="6dip"> <ImageView android:id="@+id/icon" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_marginRight="6dip" android:src="@drawable/icon" /> <LinearLayout android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="0dip" android:layout_weight="1" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <TextView android:id="@+id/ContactNames" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="0dip" android:layout_weight="1" android:gravity="center_vertical" android:text="My Application" /> <TextView android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="0dip" android:layout_weight="1" android:singleLine="true" android:ellipsize="marquee" android:text="Simple application that shows how to use RelativeLayout" /> </LinearLayout>

• Getting the submatrix with maximum sum?

- by guirgis
With the help of the Algorithmist and Larry and a modification of Kadane's Algorithm, here is my solution: int dim = matrix.length; //computing the vertical prefix sum for columns int[][] ps = new int[dim][dim]; for (int i = 0; i < dim; i++) { for (int j = 0; j < dim; j++) { if (j == 0) { ps[j][i] = matrix[j][i]; } else { ps[j][i] = matrix[j][i] + ps[j - 1][i]; } } } int maxSoFar = 0; int min , subMatrix; //iterate over the possible combinations applying Kadane's Alg. //int toplefti =0, topleftj=0, bottomrighti=0, bottomrightj=0; for (int i = 0; i < dim; i++) { for (int j = i; j < dim; j++) { min = 0; subMatrix = 0; for (int k = 0; k < dim; k++) { if (i == 0) { subMatrix += ps[j][k]; } else { subMatrix += ps[j][k] - ps[i-1][k]; } if(subMatrix < min){ min = subMatrix; } if((subMatrix - min) > maxSoFar){ maxSoFar = subMatrix - min; } } } } The only problem left is to determine the submatrix elements, i mean the top left and the bottom right corners. I managed to do this in one dimensional case. Any suggestions?

• [WPF] ComboBox.Text not taking the ItemStringFormat property into account

- by Thomas Levesque
I just noticed a strange behavior which looks like a bug. Consider the following XAML : <Page xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:sys="clr-namespace:System;assembly=mscorlib"> <Page.Resources> <x:Array x:Key="data" Type="{x:Type sys:String}"> <sys:String>Foo</sys:String> <sys:String>Bar</sys:String> <sys:String>Baz</sys:String> </x:Array> </Page.Resources> <StackPanel Orientation="Vertical"> Boo <ComboBox Name="combo" ItemsSource="{Binding Source={StaticResource data}}" ItemStringFormat="##{0}##" /> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Text, ElementName=combo}"/> </StackPanel> </Page> The ComboBox displays the values as "##Foo##", "##Bar##" and "##Baz##". But the TextBlock displays the selected values as "Foo", "Bar" and "Baz". So the ItemStringFormat is apparently ignored for the Text property... Is that a bug ? If it is, is there a workaround ? Or am I just doing something wrong ?

• How do I style buttons in a LinearLayout like a ListView

- by Mannaz
I have a vertically orientated LinearLayout with some Buttons in it: <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:orientation="vertical"> </LinearLayout> and I want this "List" of buttons to inherit the current style for ListView items. This is my current status of the stylesheet. The CKButton style gets applied over the Activity Theme. As you see I tried to draw the button background myself, but depending on the system default theme the background-color changes and therefore defining a static color is not an option. Is there a way to inherit the default ListView Row background within that buttons?

• Android NDK r4 san-angeles problem

- by Goz
Hi All, I'm starting to learn the android NDK and I've instantly come up against a problem. I'e built the tool chain (which took a LOT longer than I was expecting!!) and I've compiled the C++ code with no problems and now I'm trying to build the java code. Instantly I come up against a problem. There is a file "main.xml" <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent" > <TextView android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Hello World, DemoActivity" /> </LinearLayout> and I get the following errors: Description Resource Path Location Type error: Error: String types not allowed (at 'layout_height' with value 'match_parent'). main.xml /DemoActivity/res/layout line 2 Android AAPT Problem error: Error: String types not allowed (at 'layout_height' with value 'match_parent'). main.xml /DemoActivity/res/layout line 2 Android AAPT Problem error: Error: String types not allowed (at 'layout_width' with value 'match_parent'). main.xml /DemoActivity/res/layout line 2 Android AAPT Problem error: Error: String types not allowed (at 'layout_width' with value 'match_parent'). main.xml /DemoActivity/res/layout line 7 Android AAPT Problem error: Error: String types not allowed (at 'layout_width' with value 'match_parent'). main.xml /DemoActivity/res/layout line 7 Android AAPT Problem So I can see the problem lies in the fact that these "match_parent" strings are in there. Anyone know how to fix this?

• Multiple choice list with custom view?

- by Po
I've seen example com.example.android.apis.view.List11 from ApiDemos. In that example, each row takes the view android.R.simple_list_item_multiple_choice. Each such view has a TextView and a CheckBox. Now I want each view to have 2 TextView's and 1 CheckBox, somewhat similar to the List3 example. I tried creating a custom layout file row.xml like this: <RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" > <CheckBox android:id="@+id/checkbox" android:layout_alignParentRight="true" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" /> <TextView android:id="@+id/text_name" android:textSize="13px" android:textStyle="bold" android:layout_toLeftOf="@id/checkbox" android:layout_alignParentLeft="true" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" /> <TextView android:id="@+id/text_phone" android:textSize="9px" android:layout_toLeftOf="@id/checkbox" android:layout_below="@id/text_name" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" /> </RelativeLayout> Then in Activity.onCreate(), I do like this: public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); // Query the contacts mCursor = getContentResolver().query(Phones.CONTENT_URI, null, null, null, null); startManagingCursor(mCursor); ListAdapter adapter = new SimpleCursorAdapter(this, R.layout.row, mCursor, new String[] { Phones.NAME, Phones.NUMBER}, new int[] { R.id.text_name, R.id.text_phone }); setListAdapter(adapter); getListView().setChoiceMode(ListView.CHOICE_MODE_MULTIPLE); } The result kind of looks like what I want, but it looks like the list doesn't know which item of it is selected. Also, I need to click exactly on the checkbox. In the List11 example, I only need to click on the item row. So what do I need to do to make a multiple choice list with my custom view for each row? Many thanks.

• FLEX: videoDisplay.addEventListener(VideoEvent.PLAYHEAD_UPDATE) doesn't work

- by Patrick
hi, the PLAYHEAD_UPDATE event is not triggered by my videoDisplay component in Flex. If I add the attribute playheadUpdate="playUpdate()" everything works fine. But in the following code, the method "playUpdate()" is not triggered... thanks <mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="vertical" creationComplete="init()"> <mx:Script> import mx.events.VideoEvent private function init():void { ... videoD.addEventListener(VideoEvent.PLAYHEAD_UPDATE, playUpdate); } private function thumbPressed():void { videoD.removeEventListener(VideoEvent.PLAYHEAD_UPDATE, playUpdate); } private function thumbReleased():void { videoD.addEventListener(VideoEvent.PLAYHEAD_UPDATE, playUpdate); } private function playUpdate():void { debugF.text = "OK"; slider.value = videoD.playheadTime; } </mx:Script> <mx:VideoDisplay id="videoD" autoPlay="{autoPlayOption}" source="{videoPath}" click="togglePlay()" /> The text OK is not displayed, and the slider is not updated. As I mentioned before, adding the attribute in MXML, works, instead.

• using Quick Sequence Diagram Editor for sequence diagrams

- by Jason S
Anyone have experience with Quick Sequence Diagram Editor? The combination of instant display + text source code + Java implementation is very attractive to me, but I can't quite figure out how to make the syntax do what I want, and the documentation's not very clear. Here's a contrived example: al:Actor bill:Actor atm:ATM[a] bank:Bank[a] al:atm.give me $10 atm:al has $3=bank.check al's account balance al:atm.what time is it atm:al.it's now atm:al.stop bugging me atm:al.you only have $3 atm:bill.and don't you open your mouth bill:atm.who asked you? bill:atm.give me $20 al:atm.hey, I'm not finished! atm:bill has $765=bank.check bill's account balance atm:yes I'm sure, bill has $765=bank.hmm are you sure? atm:bill.here's $20, now go away atm:great, he's a cool dude=bank.I just gave Bill $20 al:atm.what about my $10? atm:al.read my lips: you only have $3 Here's the result from QSDE in single-threaded mode: and in multi-threaded mode: I guess I'm not clear what starts/ends those vertical bars. I have a situation which is single-threaded, but there's state involved, and all the messages are asynchronous. I guess that means I should use an external object to represent that state and its lifetime. What I want is for one timeline to represent the message sequence al:atm.give me $10 atm:bank.check al's account balance bank:atm.al has $3 atm:al.you only have $3 and another timeline to represent the message sequence bill:atm.give me $20 atm:bank.check bill's account balance bank:atm.bill has $765 atm:bank.hmm are you sure? bank:atm.yes I'm sure, bill has $765 atm:bill.here's $20, now go away atm:bank.I just gave Bill $20 bank:atm.great, he's a cool dude with the other "wisecracks" representing other miscellaneous messages that I don't care about right now. Is there a way to do this with QSDE?

• Contact-app like scrollinglist on android

- by Alxandr
I'm writing my first android app (I'm a noob at android, but decent at java). The first screen of the app consists of a huge list (about 1.5K items) of Manga-objects. The code I use is as following: main.xml: <LinearLayout android:id="@+id/LinearLayout01" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"> <ListView android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:id="@+id/android:list"></ListView> <TextView android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:text="@string/list_no_items" android:id="@+id/android:empty"></TextView> </LinearLayout> row.xml: <LinearLayout android:id="@+id/LinearLayout01" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="?android:attr/listPreferredItemHeight" android:padding="6dip" xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"> <ImageView android:id="@+id/icon" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_marginRight="6dip" android:src="@drawable/icon" /> <LinearLayout android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="0dip" android:layout_weight="1" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <TextView android:id="@+id/toptext" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="0dip" android:layout_weight="1" android:gravity="center_vertical" /> <TextView android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="0dip" android:layout_weight="1" android:id="@+id/bottomtext" android:singleLine="true" android:ellipsize="marquee" /> </LinearLayout> </LinearLayout> Then I have a adapter which basically takes a Manga-object and puts it's name in the rows toptext, and it's latest updated date in the bottomtext. However, (this might be caused by the virtualization of the unit though), the result is really slow. Scrolling the list takes forever and you can only scroll small peaces of the time. How can I make the list work like the one in the contacts-app? So that when you start scrolling a handle pops out at the right side of the screen, and when you drag it letters shows up as of how far you've scrolled (the list is sorted alphabetically), and also, is there a way I could improve the performance of the list?

• Custom activity in WF 4.0: WorkflowItemsPresenter wont show converted array

- by lotusnote
Hi There, we have an Array which is converted via a Binded Converter: else if (TTools.IsOfBaseClass(value.GetType(), typeof(System.Activities.Presentation.Model.ModelItemCollection))) { OurBaseClass[] test = (value as ModelItemCollection).GetCurrentValue() as OurBaseClass[]; List<OurBaseClass> listOfArray = new List<OurBaseClass>(); foreach (OurBaseClass item in test) { listOfArray.Add(item); } return listOfArray; } the convertion works well but it is not shown in our dynamically gui gui code with bindings: <sap:WorkflowItemsPresenter xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:sap="clr-namespace:System.Activities.Presentation;assembly=System.Activities.Presentation" Grid.Column="0" Name="MyArray" Items="{Binding Path=ModelItem.MyArray}" MinWidth="150" Margin="0"> <sap:WorkflowItemsPresenter.SpacerTemplate > <DataTemplate> <TextBlock Foreground="DarkGray" Margin="30">..</TextBlock> </DataTemplate> </sap:WorkflowItemsPresenter.SpacerTemplate> <sap:WorkflowItemsPresenter.ItemsPanel> <ItemsPanelTemplate> <StackPanel Orientation="Vertical" HorizontalAlignment="Center" Margin="0"/> </ItemsPanelTemplate> </sap:WorkflowItemsPresenter.ItemsPanel> </sap:WorkflowItemsPresenter> Why is the gui not shown as a List??? it works well without converter. Thanks

• Set margins in a LinearLayout programmatically.

- by Timmmm
I'm trying to use Java (not XML) to create a LinearLayout with buttons that fill the screen, and have margins. Here is code that works without margins: LinearLayout buttonsView = new LinearLayout(this); buttonsView.setOrientation(LinearLayout.VERTICAL); for (int r = 0; r < 6; ++r) { Button btn = new Button(this); btn.setText("A"); LinearLayout.LayoutParams lp = new LinearLayout.LayoutParams(LinearLayout.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT, LinearLayout.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT); // Verbose! lp.weight = 1.0f; // This is critical. Doesn't work without it. buttonsView.addView(btn, lp); } ViewGroup.LayoutParams lp = new ViewGroup.LayoutParams(ViewGroup.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT, ViewGroup.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT); setContentView(buttonsView, lp); So that works fine, but how on earth do you give the buttons margins so there is space between them? I tried using LinearLayout.MarginLayoutParams, but that has no weight member so it's no good. And it doesn't work if you pass it lp in its constructor either. Is this impossible? Because it sure looks it, and it wouldn't be the first Android layout task you can only do in XML.

• Does Android XML Layout's 'include' Tag Really Work?

- by Eric Burke
I am unable to override attributes when using <include> in my Android layout files. When I searched for bugs, I found Declined Issue 2863: "include tag is broken (overriding layout params never works)" Since Romain indicates this works in the test suites and his examples, I must be doing something wrong. My project is organized like this: res/layout buttons.xml res/layout-land receipt.xml res/layout-port receipt.xml The buttons.xml contains something like this: <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:orientation="horizontal"> <Button .../> <Button .../> </LinearLayout> And the portrait and landscape receipt.xml files look something like: <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:orientation="vertical"> ... <include android:id="@+id/buttons_override" android:background="#ff0000" android:layout_width="fill_parent" layout="@layout/buttons"/> </LinearLayout> What am I missing?

• LinearLayout not expanding inside a ScrollView

- by Felix
I have a LinearLayout inside a ScrollView that has android:layout_height="fill_parent", but it doesn't expand to the full height of the ScrollView. My layout looks something like: level layout layout_width layout_height 1 LinearLayout fill_parent fill_parent 2 LinearLayout fill_parent wrap_content 3 (some irrelevant stuff) 2 ScrollView fill_parent fill_parent <-- this expands full height 3 LinearLayout fill_parent fill_parent <-- this does not (has orientation=vertical) (following stuff probably are irrelevant, but just to be sure:) 4 TextView fill_parent fill_parent 4 LinearLayout fill_parent wrap_content I can see that the LinearLayout doesn't expand the full height of the ScrollView because in Eclipse in Android Layout Editor, if I select the ScrollView (in the Outline panel) it is highlighted with a red border that fills the screen to the bottom but when I select the LinearLayout its highlight doesn't expand to the bottom of the screen. How can I get it to do so? The effect I'm trying to achieve is to have some text and a button below it (inside the LinearLayout in level 4 there's just a button). The text can be big enough to need a scrollbar, in which case I want the user to have to scroll down in order to see the button. In case the text is not big enough for a scroll bar, I want the LinearLayout containing the button to stick to the bottom of the screen.

• Rotate a Swing JLabel

- by Johannes Rössel
I am currently trying to implement a Swing component, inheriting from JLabel which should simply represent a label that can be oriented vertically. Beginning with this: public class RotatedLabel extends JLabel { public enum Direction { HORIZONTAL, VERTICAL_UP, VERTICAL_DOWN } private Direction direction; I thought it's be a nice idea to just alter the results from getPreferredSize(): @Override public Dimension getPreferredSize() { // swap size for vertical alignments switch (getDirection()) { case VERTICAL_UP: case VERTICAL_DOWN: return new Dimension(super.getPreferredSize().height, super .getPreferredSize().width); default: return super.getPreferredSize(); } } and then simply transform the Graphics object before I offload painting to the original JLabel: @Override protected void paintComponent(Graphics g) { Graphics2D gr = (Graphics2D) g.create(); switch (getDirection()) { case VERTICAL_UP: gr.translate0, getPreferredSize().getHeight()); gr.transform(AffineTransform.getQuadrantRotateInstance(-1)); break; case VERTICAL_DOWN: // TODO break; default: } super.paintComponent(gr); } } It seems to work—somehow—in that the text is now displayed vertically. However, placement and size are off: Actually, the width of the background (orange in this case) is identical with the height of the surrounding JFrame which is ... not quite what I had in mind. Any ideas how to solve that in a proper way? Is delegating rendering to superclasses even encouraged?

• Android layout issue - relative widths

- by cdonner
I am trying to assign relative widths to columns in a ListView that is in a TabHost, using layout_weight as suggested here: <TabHost xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@android:id/tabhost" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <LinearLayout android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <TabWidget android:id="@android:id/tabs" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"/> <FrameLayout android:id="@android:id/tabcontent" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <TableLayout android:id="@+id/triplist" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:paddingTop="4px"> <TableRow> <ListView android:id="@+id/triplistview" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"/> </TableRow> <TableRow> </TableRow> [other tabs ...] My row definition has 4 columns that I would like to size as follows: <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:orientation="horizontal" android:weightSum="1.0" android:padding="4px"> <TextView android:id="@+id/rowtripdate" android:layout_weight=".2" android:layout_width="0dip" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:inputType="date"/> <TextView android:id="@+id/rowodostart" android:layout_weight=".2" android:layout_width="0dip" android:layout_height="wrap_content"/> <TextView android:id="@+id/rowodoend" android:layout_weight=".2" android:layout_width="0dip" android:layout_height="wrap_content"/> <TextView android:id="@+id/rowcomment" android:layout_weight=".4" android:layout_width="0dip" android:layout_height="wrap_content"> Unfortunately, it seems to want to fit all the column into the space that the button occupies, as opposed to the width of the screen. Or maybe there is another constraint that I do not understand. I'd appreciate your help.

• wxOSX/Carbon: wxGLCanvas mouse offset in non-floating window classes

- by srose
Hi All, I mainly program plugins using wxWidgets within a Carbon bundle which is loaded at runtime. The host-applications where my plugins are running in provide a native window handle (WindowRef), which I can use to add my custom, wxWidgets-based GUI-classes. To use the native window handle with wxWidgets classes I had to write a wxTopLevelWindow wrapper class, which does all the WindowRef encapsulation. So far, this works pretty well, but under some circumstances I got vertical mouse offsets within a wxGLCanvas if the window class of the native window handle is not of the type "kFloatingWindowClass". I am able to bypass the problem if I display an info panel (wxPanel) over the whole wxGlCanvas and if the user hides the info panel then the mouse offset is gone. Now my questions: Is there a "simple" explanation for this behaviour? Is it possible to use certain method calls to imitate info panel effect without using the panel itself? I tried several combinations of Update() and Refresh() calls of all involved components, but none of them worked so far. Even the use of wxSizer couldn't help here. Window hierarchy used by plugin-applications: wxCustomTopLevelWindow (WindowRef provided by host-application) wxPanel (parent window for all application panel) wxPanel (application info panel) wxPanel (application main panel) wxPanel (opengl main panel) wxGlCanvas (main opengl canvas) Any ideas? Any help is very appreciated.
