  • Is there a preferred way to set up a virtual Ubuntu server on a desktop?

    I love Ubuntu, and as I am searching the internet, I am finding that some questions I have have not been answered yet. One of them is if there is a preferred way to set up a virtual server. I look through the Ubuntu Software Center, but found nothing from the search "Virtual Server" I then searched the internet and found lots of posts to trouble-shoot VMWare virtual servers. So, like a good researcher I looked in the Software center for VMWare. Sure enough I found "user agent" and "view open client". I didn't get sufficient info from the software center. And searching the website only left me scratching my head. I want to install Ubuntu Server Edition. I already have a server, but am cautious "trying out" things on it. So a virtual server sounds like what I need.

    I'm getting a "DirectoryNotFoundException" error, here is the code: string directorio = "D:\MUSICA\La Trampa - El Mísero Espiral De Encanto"; DirectoryInfo dir = new DirectoryInfo(directorio); DirectoryInfo[] dirs = dir.GetDirectories(); <------------This is the line I'm having this problem. I believe it's caused when it tries to parse the tilde part of that string "Mísero". the directory "D:\MUSICA\La Trampa - El Mísero Espiral De Encanto" exists because I can see it and also have some files in it. Is there any way to send this string in correct way? Thanks

  • List of existing Android Virtual Devices empty

    I'm new to Android development and I'm currently going through some tutorials. When I setup a new Android Project in Eclipse, and select Windows - Android SDK and AVD Manager, in Virtual Devices, the list of existing Android Virtual Devices is empty. Is it supposed to be? From the pictures in the tutorial, it's pre-populated. Can I download these AVDs from somewhere, am I missing something here? Also, I'm developing this on my Macbook Pro.

Suppose there is a css file called menu.css inside common/include. We'd simply have to make the following http call to get it: http://testing.apps/common/include/menu3.css This works!!! I don't understand how? There is no such folder called common inside of testing...

  • Virtual Machine files on ramdisk doesn't run faster than on physical disk

    I installed total 36G memory (4x8G + 2x2G) in the host (Windows 7) and I used ImDisk to create a 32G ramdisk and format it to NTFS file system. Then I copied the virtual machine (in VMware Workstation format) folder, including vmx, vmdk, etc... to the new created ram disk. Then I tried to power on it in VMware Workstation. What made me surprised is that the performance is not better than before. It cost almost the same time to power on the Windows 7 VM. I check the Resource Monitor in the Windows 7 host, and the statistics of CPU, disk, network are rather normal. The memory has reported 3000+ hard fault/sec when guest OS boot then drop to 0 after the guest powered on. Any idea about this issue? I had thought the performance of ramdisk will be better than physical disk in this case. Am I wrong? Thanks.

    I have a website (coded in vb.net) with an "admin" section (the admin section being a folder in the actual site)... So in every page of the site I'm using my own custom class as the page base (which has been set in the web.config file) but I want to inherit from different class for the files in the "admin" folder... Is there any way to inherit different classes for pages in different folders using the web.config or some other equally as global method? (meaning some other way than inheriting on a per page basis.)

  • Create Virtual Image of Laptop before Formatting

    I have a 3 year old laptop running Windows XP that I used for business. Although I have not used the laptop in over a year, I now want to re-commission it with Windows 7 and a fresh install. Before I do the fresh install I want to create a Virtual Image of the laptop that I can keep and potentially run on my desktop machine should I ever need to access any of the old files/projects that it contains currently. I know that most people will say just copy the files over to your desktop, but my concern is the configuration of the laptop. I used to use it for development and it has older versions of Visual Studio, SQL Server, Active X controls etc, etc than I currently use so I really want to preserve the environment not just the files. So really I am asking what is the best tool-set/method to achieve this? I understand there are free VM tools available but I have never done this before and would appreciate any help.

    I am using a mac. When I use the "rm" command it can only remove files. The "rmdir" command only removes empty folders. If you have a directory with files and folders with files and folders in them and so on. Is there anyway to delete all the files and folders without all the strenuous command typing? Remember, I am using the mac bash shell from terminal, not Microsoft DOS or linux.

  • Virtual firewall to protect hypervisor

    I am running an Ubuntu Server 12.10 as a single host connected to a NATed router connected using PPPoE to a optical fiber modem. This server is meant to be accessed from the Internet, but also to be used from the LAN as a SVN, MySQL and what not... The issue is that the router is not customizable enough to serve, so I was thinking about creating a virtual pfSense firewall using KVM inside of the server itself, removing the need of the router. Is this possible? Can the host ignore and block all traffic coming to itself, but not for the firewall? I am aware this is not the most desirable environment, I accept suggestions based on budget!

  • PHP specifying a fixed include source for scripts in different directories

    I am currently doing unit testing, and use folders to organize my test cases. All cases pertaining to managing of user accounts, for example, go under \tests\accounts. Over time, there are more test cases, and I begin to seperate the cases by types, such as \tests\accounts\create, \tests\account\update and etc. However, one annoying problem is I have to specify the path to a set of common includes. I have to use includes like this: include_once ("../../../../autoload.php"); include_once ("../../../../init.php"); A test case in tests\accounts\ would require change to the include (one less directory level down). Is there anyway to have them somehow locating my two common includes? I understand I could set include paths within my PHP's configurations, or use server environment variables, but I would like to avoid such solutions as they make the application less portable and coupled with another layer which the programmer can't control (some web-host doesn't allow configuration of PHP's configuration settings, for example)

  • Make IP Address point to webroot instead of virtual hosts' documentroot

    I used to have a one-to-one domain name and IP. Recently I've paid for a second domain name and decided to host it on the same box and IP. As such, I added virtualhosts to point each domain name to a different document root (i.e. /var/www/webbie1 and /var/www/webbie2). The question I have is, can I still make the IP, e.g. http://XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX, point to the webroot, i.e. /var/www/? If so, how do I go about doing it? For a fuller picture, the box is on an Ubuntu server OS and I'm using apache2 as the app server. the changes I made to enable to virtual hosts were in the apache2.conf file with the <VirtualHost [IP address]> ... </VirtualHost> tags.   • VMWare Server :: VM set to 2gb RAM but vmware process shows 100mb physical, 1900mb virtual

    I've set up a VMWare instance to run CastIron Integration Appliance. I allocated 2gb of memory to the instance, assuming it would take this as physical memory (my server has 8gb total). When I view top however on the server, the vmware-vmx process has about 100m Resident memory and 1900m Virtual. Running CastIron it reports that the appliance often hits 50% memory usage. Does this mean I'm using 900mb of harddrive space as memory? I wanted VMWare to use 2gb of physical memory, no swap. Can anyone tell me how to achieve this? However, as for my purposes it's not adequate to load the contents lazily, I have the following question: How can I create an object hierarchy (of, say, the custom FileOrDirectory class with the standard children,count,isLeaf attributes) from the information I load from the enumeratorAtURL: method? I need to load this data beforehand, and show it in an outline view, for my purposes.

    I'm trying to include a file (/wp-load.php) at the beginning of the /html/ directory.     I have used the Cisco VPN client for years, and on XP it is pretty much rock solid, on Vista, not so much. You might be able to connect, but unless you set up a constant ping to something, it usually will disconnect, with this error: Reason 442: Failed to enable Virtual Adapater Now, most sysadmins will say, update you client - yes, I know, it hasnt mitigated the issue, ever. I have been using it on Vista since it came out, and updated my client every time a new update comes out. I have used it where the VPN server was a Cisco PIX and a Windows Box allowing the Cisco Client to connect. Anyone have any fixes that you can do on your client to fix this issue?

  • VMware - Watching multiple virtual machine screens

    Hi, I don't know even if I put the question right, but here's what I'd like to accomplish. I have avoided specifying exact Vmware virtualization product here because I'm not sure which one would be most suitable for the task at hand. I am developing an application that works in local network. This application has to run on several computers at the same time, and it's important to me, as a developer and tester, to see (literally) how it behaves at all times on all computers. Is there any way to connect to screens of virtual machines deployed on ESX, ESXi, Sever 2.0, or some other product, so that I can see something like grid of screens, say 4x4 or 6x4 or whatever number of scaled screens, at the same time? Ability to interact with screens directly from grid (by double-clicking a screen, for instance, and then getting full resolution screen) would be greatly appreciated, of course. I hope that someone understood what I meant here. :)

  • Sharing VPN from XP to Linux virtual

    Hi I will keep the question simple with few details, if more is needed tell me. Thanks. I am playing around with networking and virtualbox. So I have 2 virtual machines. One is windows xp and another has linux in it. Windows XP has 2 network cards. One for the internet and the other to connect to the linux computer. Linux has one 1 card and it can only access the internet passing through Windows XP. Internet works fine until I activate OpenVPN on Windows. When I turn on VPN, Linux has no access to it. How can I make linux use VPN too? I believe it has something to do with using the "route" command on XP to send VPN traffic to Linux but I was not able to figure it out how yet.
