• rsync to windows (cygwin)

  We have a windows file storage (don't ask) and now I want to rsync with the machine from Windows, Mac and Linux. So I installed freeSSHd (login shell is set to C:/cygwin64/bin/sh.exe), set up certificates and testing from Linux the test.dat has 0 bytes: ssh myuser@winmachinename "C:/cygwin64/bin/true.exe" > test.dat Even double checking with actual output works fine: ssh myuser@winmachinename "C:/cygwin64/bin/ls.exe" > test.dat Now, when I call rsync: rsync --progress -avz -e ssh myuser@winmachinename:/c/Users ~/test it fails with: protocol version mismatch -- is your shell clean? (see the rsync man page for an explanation) rsync error: protocol incompatibility (code 2) at compat.c(174) [Receiver=3.1.0] As far as reading the docs, this should not happen, when the first test is successful!? I am by now out of ideas - any recommendations how to debug this?   I'd like to make some room on /dev/sda1 without necessarily having to remove a whole bunch of applications (I've already gone through and deleted all frivolous apps).   I am porting a Java application to Haskell. With this solution, I will have lots of nested if-then-else (one for each exit point of the original Java code). Is there a more elegant / idiomatic way of implementing this pattern in Haskell? • using cin and cout in textmate [migrated]

  I am usually a Java programmer, and have used textmate for that almost exclusively, but lately I started using C++ with it. but when i use even the most basic programs and incorporate the cin keyword, and run the program, I dont get an oppurtunity to put in anything during runtime and sometimes it inserts random values by itself! for example, if i ran this in textmate: #include <iostream> int stonetolb(int); int main() { using namespace std; int stone; cout << "enter the weight in stone"; cin >> stone; int pounds = stonetolb(stone); cout << stone << "stone = "; cout << pounds <<" pounds."; return 0; } int stonetolb(int sts) { return 14 * sts; } I would come out with the output: enter the weight in stone32767stone = 458738 pounds. Why is this happening, and how do I stop it?

• Rotating object along bezier curve: not rotating enough?

  I tried to follow the instructions from the threads on the forum (Cocos2d rotating sprite while moving with CCBezierBy) with Unity, in order to rotate my object as it moves along a bezier curve. But it does not rotate enough, the angle is too low, it goes up to 6 instead of 90 for example, as you can see on this image (the y eulerAngle is at 6, I would expect it to be around 90 with this curve) : Would you know why it does this? And how to make the rotation toward the next point? • Hostname Problem On WHM / cPanel Installation

  My CentOS 5.6 server's hostname was "centos" . And then i change it to my domain : hostname domain.com And i started to installing WHM / cPanel as explained in here : http://etwiki.cpanel.net/twiki/bin/view/AllDocumentation/InstallationGuide/InstallingCpanel It's installed very well. And the i reboot my server. After rebooting, i was execute this command for open WHM's 2087 port : iptables -I RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -m state --state NEW -m tcp -p tcp --dport 2087 -j ACCEPT Now i'm trying to browse domain.com:2087 i'm getting Server (centos) not found .I noticed it's forwarding to my old hostname (centos) . And then execute this command to verify me hostname hostname it's returned "centos" again. I'm not sure, why it's returned to old hostname. (I think it returned to old hostname after rebooting) . I'm changed it one more time : hostname domain.com Finally, now my hostname is domain.com . BUt still i'm getting centos server not found error. This is result of iptables -L command. P.S. : domain.com/cpanel is working

• AutoHotkey cannot interact with Windows 8 Windows&hellip;or can it!

  If you’ve installed Windows 8 and are trying to use AutoHotkey (AHK) to interact with some of the Winodws 8 Windows (such as the Control Panel for example), or with apps that need to be Ran As Administrator, then you’ve likely become very frustrated as I did to discover that AHK can not send any commands (keyboard or mouse input) to these windows.  This was a huge concern as I often need to run Visual Studio as an administrator and wanted my hotkeys and hotstrings to work in Visual Studio.  After a day of fighting I finally realized the answer (and it’s pretty obvious once you think about it).  If you want AHK to be able to interact with Windows 8 Windows or apps running as administrator, then you also need to have your AHK script Run As Administrator. If you are like me then you probably have your AHK scripts set to run automatically at login, which means you don’t have the opportunity to right-click on the script and manually tell it to Run As Administrator.  Luckily the work around is simple.  First, if you want to have your AHK script (or any program for that matter) run when you log in, create a shortcut to the application and place the shortcut in: C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup Note that you will need to replace “[User Name]” with your username, and that “AppData” is a hidden folder so you’ll need to turn on viewing hidden folders to see it.  So by placing that shortcut there Windows will automatically run your script when you log on.  Now, to get it to run as an administrator by default, right-click on the shortcut and go to Properties.  Under the Shortcut tab, click on the “Advanced…” button and check off “Run as administrator”.  That’s it.  Now when you log onto Windows your script will automatically start up, running as an administrator; allowing it to interact with any application and window like you had expected it to in the first place.   Happy coding!

  I've got two Acer X233Hbid 23" Widescreen LCD Monitors from new egg back last summer, each weigh 10.5lbs a piece I Want to Buy a third Acer 23" (closest I've found is the X235 on Newegg, weighs in at 11.5 lbs) , one of the new ATI video cards that will output to 3 displays, and then a monitor stand that will let me use them in portrait mode like the image below. I found the following: $260 - ERGOTRON 33-323-200 DS100 Triple-Monitor Desk Stand and was wondering if anyone has any experience with this kind of setup and whether it would work for me or not.. • Why does eth0 show an IP if I'm booting into runlevel 1?

  I'm having some issues with networking on a new Linux server I'm building. The OS is SLES 11. When booting into runlevel 1, I see that eth0 is showing an IP. Physically, there is a network cable plugged into the card associated with eth1, and then there is a network cable plugged into a QLogic iSCSI card (eth4, not shown). I've been troubleshooting this for awhile, and it seems like eth0 is somehow getting assigned an IP, even though it isn't configured in Linux or even plugged into the network for that matter. • iptables to play nice with tor and ntpd

  I'm setting up a server to operate as a tor relay and nothing else. I setup iptables to only allow talk on port 9001 and it worked fine, but there was an issue, the clock needs to be properly set and maintained for the relay to work properly, so I needed ntpd setup and running, but for some reason I can't get iptables to work as I want it. I'm trying to have it allow only tor and ntpd to talk over the network, but when I set it up to allow port 123 using udp, suddenly it ignores my -A OUTPUT ! -s 127.0.0.1 -j DROP and allows everything through. How should I go about this? Please excuse my ignorance, I've brand new to iptables.

• USB to HDMI using just a cable

  I got a cable which has a USB point on one side and an HDMI point on the other side. I was under an impression that I could watch movies from my computer if I connect my computer to the TV using this cable. But looks like I was wrong. Does anyone know if such cable need some driver to make it work? Thanks for any input. (My computer is a Dell All-in-one PC which cannot take an extra graphic card. That's why I am trying my luck with such a cable.)

• VIM zsh, bash and colors in command line on Ubuntu

  I have problem with VIM command line when calling system commands. e.g. !ls, all command output colors aren't parsed by VIM. My system is Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with VIM 7.3.429 from Ubuntu repositories. Is there any workaround for this problem? What encoding is used when reading the xslFile? What encoding is used when reading the xmlFile? What encoding will be applied to the FO outfile? How can I obtain the info (properties) for 1 - 3? Is there a method call? How can the properties in 4 be altered - using configuration and dynamically? if known - Where is there info (web site) on this that I can read - I have looked without much success.

• Stereo images rectification and disparity: which algorithms?

  I'm trying to figure out what are currently the two most efficent algorithms that permit, starting from a L/R pair of stereo images created using a traditional camera (so affected by some epipolar lines misalignment), to produce a pair of adjusted images plus their depth information by looking at their disparity. Actually I've found lots of papers about these two methods, like: "Computing Rectifying Homographies for Stereo Vision" (Zhang - seems one of the best for rectification only) "Three-step image recti?cation" (Monasse) "Rectification and Disparity" (slideshow by Navab) "A fast area-based stereo matching algorithm" (Di Stefano - seems a bit inaccurate) "Computing Visual Correspondence with Occlusions via Graph Cuts" (Kolmogorov - this one produces a very good disparity map, with also occlusion informations, but is it efficient?) "Dense Disparity Map Estimation Respecting Image Discontinuities" (Alvarez - toooo long for a first review) Anyone could please give me some advices for orienting into this wide topic? What kind of algorithm/method should I treat first, considering that I'll work on a very simple input: a pair of left and right images and nothing else, no more information (some papers are based on additional, pre-taken, calibration infos)? Speaking about working implementations, the only interesting results I've seen so far belongs to this piece of software, but only for automatic rectification, not disparity: http://stereo.jpn.org/eng/stphmkr/index.html I tried the "auto-adjustment" feature and seems really effective. • Is there a way I can use $PATH as defined by my bash profile?

  I spend most of my day ssh'd into servers. I have a series of aliases/functions/scripts that allow me to type p hostname from the terminal and execute GNU screen(1) on the remote side, using the following command: exec ssh hostname -t 'screen -RD'` I've only recently noticed that ssh -t does not get my custom $PATH. Here's some terminal output: adam@workstation:~:0$ sh server 'echo $PATH' /home/adam/bin:/usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin:/opt/git/bin:/opt/git/libexec/git-core adam@workstation:~:0$ ssh server -t 'echo $PATH' /usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin Connection to uranus.plymouth.edu closed. My biggest problem is my custom aliases only try to execute screen, since I can't guarantee an absolute path, and my $PATH is structured so the shell should find the correct one. If my $PATH settings aren't honored, my scripts don't work. Is there a way I can use $PATH as defined by my .bashrc/.bash_profile? I believe PermitUserEnvironment is disabled.

• Slow dvd burning/reading speeds: how to solve

  I have a problem on which I'm struggling since i started using linux a year ago on my desktop, but still haven't found a solution for it. When reading or burning a dvd, the speeds are very slow (mostly under 1x) whilst I did selected the fastest speed in k3b. As such, it takes up to 40-50 minutes to burn one dvd! I read about enabling dma this post but it didn't help. • How can I apply a DSP to my microphone in windows?

  I'd like to be able to run my microphone through arbitrary DSP filters--Mostly for compression and amplification, but also noise cancelation would be nice. I'd then like to take that output and put it back in a virtual audio device that I could use as input for skype, mumble, teamspeak, or any other VOIP program. With a program like Virtual Audio cable, I can do the 'fake devices' part but as far as I know it does not allow any kind of filtering inline. Does a program like this exist? Or some combination of programs that can be combined to accomplish this?

• Running evrouter at boot with init.d, or after xserver starts

  I'm using evrouter to set up mouse button binds, and init.d to start it. If evrouter requires xserver to be up, how do I get init to wait until after xserver starts to run this script? If xserver restarts will this script run automatically? Running this with sudo services evrouter start still results in this error, can init.d scripts not tell where my display is? (Not exactly familiar with init, runlevels, etc)

• Acer Aspire One 725 - missing graphic card driver?

  Recently I bought an Acer Aspire One 725 Netbook and installed Ubuntu 12.10 on it. I bought it, because it can run HD movies and has Full HD on external VGA port. However, movies from youtube have a really slow framerate. If you open three tabs in Opera (for example g-mail, youtube and askubuntu) it gets really laggy. My suspicion is that the driver for graphic card is missing. When I check the System->Details->Graphics the driver is unknown. After running lspci | grep VGA I get this output: 00:01.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Device 980a From what I see, I have a AMD C70 processor integrated with (or something similar) AMD Radeon HD 6290. Has anyone had the same problem? Do you know which drivers need to be installed for the graphics to work properly? On official Acer page there are only drivers for Win7 and Win8... • Perl - can't flush STDOUT or STDERR

  Perl 5.14 from stock Ubuntu Precise repos. Trying to write a simple wrapper to monitor progress on copying from one stream to another: use IO::Handle; while ($bufsize = read (SOURCE, $buffer, 1048576)) { STDERR->printflush ("Transferred $xferred of $sendsize bytes\n"); $xferred += $bufsize; print TARGET $buffer; } This does not perform as expected (writing a line each time the 1M buffer is read). I end up seeing the first line (with a blank value of $xferred), and then the 7th and 8th lines (on an 8MB transfer). Been pounding my brains out on this for hours - I've read the perldocs, I've read the classic "Suffering from Buffering" article, I've tried everything from select and $|++ to IO::Handle to binmode (STDERR, "::unix") to you name it. I've also tried flushing TARGET with each line using IO::Handle (TARGET-flush). No dice. Has anybody else ever encountered this? I don't have any ideas left. Sleeping one second "fixes" the problem, but obviously I don't want to sleep a second every time I read a buffer just so my progress will output on the screen! FWIW, the problem is exactly the same whether I'm outputting to STDERR or STDOUT.
