• Drag-n-Drop on contentEditable elements

  There are numerous WYSIWYG editors available on the internet, but I'm yet to find one that implements some form of drag-n-drop implementation. It is easy to create one's own editor, but I want to the user to be able to drag elements (ie. tokens) from outside the editable area and have them drop it at a location of their choice inside the editable area. It is easy to inject html at a specific location of an editable element, but how do one determine where the caret should be when the user is dragging a DIV over some element in the editable area. To better illustrate what I'm trying to explain, see the following scenario. The editable area (either an IFRAME in edit mode or a DIV with its contentEditable attribute set to true) already contains the following text: "Dear , please take note of ...." The user now drags an element representing some token from a list of elements, over the editable area, moving the cursor over the text until the caret appear just before the comma (,) in the text as shown above. When the user releases the mouse button at that location, HTML will be injected which could result in something like this: "Dear {UserFirstName}, please take note of ...". I do not know if anyone has ever done anything similar to this, or at least know of how one would go about doing this using JavaScript. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  I am creating items on the fly via Sitecore Web Service. • WPF data validation is overriding theme on the interface

• Project Euler: Programmatic Optimization for Problem 7?

  So I would call myself a fairly novice programmer as I focused mostly on hardware in my schooling and not a lot of Computer Science courses. So I solved Problem 7 of Project Euler: By listing the first six prime numbers: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, and 13, we can see that the 6th prime is 13. What is the 10001st prime number? I managed to solve this without problem in Java, but when I ran my solution it took 8 and change seconds to run. I was wondering how this could be optimized from a programming standpoint, not a mathematical standpoint. Is the array looping and while statements the main things eating up processing time? And how could this be optimized? Again not looking for a fancy mathematical equation..there are plenty of those in the solution thread. • jQuery/Ajax with Zend Framework

  I've been tinkering around with Zend-Framework and Jquery for a month or so, and finally started tinkering with them together using ZendX_JQuery. It seems I've ran into something that at first seemed it should be simple, So maybe I'm just missing something here. I have a view along the lines of: $this->ajaxLink( $this->escape($var->title), $this->baseUrl() . "/another/action", array('update' => '#domain' . $var->id , 'complete' => '$("#domain' . $var->id .'").toggle("slow");')); echo '<div id="domain"' . $var->id . '" style="display:none;" ></div>'; Which works correctly, when the link displayed by the code above is clicked it loads the contents returned from /another/action into the domain"id" div. The problem occurs when the view loaded by the above contains an ajaxLink() the ajax link stops working. This can be fixed by adding an option to the ajaxLink() array "inline" = true but what if I need other JQuery views helpers to work when loaded into the page via ajax i.e. dialogContainer() I guess I could simply be asking how to control where zendx jquery helper puts java script. by default it is trying to put all statments in the <head> section in a single <script> tag. I need away around that for views displayed from an ajax call. Does Dojo try and force all php rendered javascript/ajax into the head also? Thanks.

• Algorithm to match list of regular expressions

  I have two algorithmic questions for a project I am working on. I have thought about these, and have some suspicions, but I would love to hear the community's input as well. Suppose I have a string, and a list of N regular expressions (actually they are wildcard patterns representing a subset of full regex functionality). I want to know whether the string matches at least one of the regular expressions in the list. Is there a data structure that can allow me to match the string against the list of regular expressions in sublinear (presumably logarithmic) time? This is an extension of the previous problem. Suppose I have the same situation: a string and a list of N regular expressions, only now each of the regular expressions is paired with an offset within the string at which the match must begin (or, if you prefer, each of the regular expressions must match a substring of the given string beginning at the given offset). To give an example, suppose I had the string: This is a test string and the regex patterns and offsets: (a) his.* at offset 0 (b) his.* at offset 1 The algorithm should return true. Although regex (a) does not match the string beginning at offset 0, regex (b) does match the substring beginning at offset 1 ("his is a test string"). Is there a data structure that can allow me to solve this problem in sublinear time? One possibly useful piece of information is that often, many of the offsets in the list of regular expressions are the same (i.e. often we are matching the substring at offset X many times). • Make an ActiveX control work without a form?

  We are using Topaz Signature pads. They provide their APIs in the from of an ActiveX control which is to be put on a Winform control. Well, the way our project will work we do not want to have a form(at least not visible). The exception is Exception of type 'System.Windows.Forms.AxHost+InvalidActiveXStateException' was thrown. What do I do to solve this problem? Would it just be easier to create a new hidden form and put the control on it so it's invisible?

If I change 'aysnc' to 'false', then the ajax call succeeds. Also, click events which do not take to a new page succeed. Only the click events taking to new page are being canceled. I do not want to make the call synchronous. Any ideas, what could be the issue? How can I guarantee that the asynchronous call before is finished when the click event takes to a new page?

My question is, a. Will reading through the DataAdapter create any problems later on, when I am working with BLOBS? More, specifically, will it read the BLOB properly? b. This was the read part.Now when I am writing the BLOB to the DB,its a queue actually. I.e I am trying to store a queue in MySQLite using a BLOB. Will Conn.ExecuteNonQuery() serve my purpose? c. When I am reading the BLOB back from the DB, can I edit it as the original datatype, it used to be in C# environment i.e { Queue - BLOB - ? } {C# -MySQL - C# } So in this context, Date field was a queue, I wrote it back as a BLOB, when reading it back, can I access it(and edit) as a queue? • Linking session state between servlets and EJBs?

  Hello, I have servlets (in a web module) that access stateless EJB beans (in an EJB module). The EJB module is built using SEAM. Users can have different roles and the EJB services check this using Seam's Identity. I also use a customized Authenticator (although this might not be relevant here). I noticed problems with this approach and I'm suspecting that the session context in the servlets is not "linked" with the session context in the EJB beans. What I think happens is something like: User Joe access servlet A and is assigned Session W1. Servlet A calls a login function on an EJB, using the EJB session E1. Later, user Mary accesses servlet A and is assigned Session W2. When calling the EJBs, however, the EJB session E1 is used and therefore Mary is authenticated as Joe. What also happens is that when Joe is calling the servlet twice in rapid succession, the same session W1 is used, but two different sessions E1 and E2 in the business layer, causing errors. I might be wrong in my suspicion, but maybe I'm actually expecting these "sessions" to be linked together while they in fact are not. If this is true, is there any way of achieving this? I could - of course - use stateful beans and save the authentication information in the beans, but this would break the "Identity" concept of Seam (and in general, it would be preferable to be able to use the Session context in my EJB beans). • How to get all active parameters in ASP.NET MVC (2)

  Hi! I was wondering whether there is a way to create an ActionLink or similar, that changes only a few parameters of the actual query, and keeps all the other parameters intact. For example if I'm on an URL like http://example.com/Posts/Index?Page=5&OrderBy=Name&OrderDesc=True I want to change only the Page, or OrderBy parameter and keep all other parameters the same, even those I don't yet know of (like when I want to add a Search parameter or something similar too). The header of my current action looks like this: public ActionResult Index(int? Page, string OrderBy, bool? Desc) and I'm only interested in the values that this controller "eats". I want however that when I extend this action (for example with a string Search parameter) the links should work the same way as before. Here is what I did already: Create a new RouteValueDictionary and fill it with everything from RouteData.Values Problem: This only fills the parameters that are used in the Routing, so all other optional parameters (like Page) to the controller are lost Add everything from HttpContext.Request.QueryString to the previous dictionary This is what I am currently using Problem: It might have some junk stuff, that the Controller didn`t ask for, and it doesn't work if the page was loaded using POST. You also don't have any ModelBindings (but this isn't much of a problem, because we are re-sending everything anyway) Use HttpContext.Request.Params Problem: this has too much junk data which imho one shouldn't add to a RouteValueDictionary that is passed to an ActionLink So the questions: Is there an RVD that has all the data that was passed to the Controller and was used by it? Is this solution good, or are there any caveats I didn't think about (mainly in the context of changing a few query parameters while keeping the others intact)? Is there a way to filter out the "junk" data from the Params object?

  Hi all, I'm stuck with a database which is using multi-field primary keys. I have a situation where I have a master and details table, where the details table's primary key contains fields which are also the foreign key's the the master table. Like this: Master primary key fields: master_pk_1 Details primary key fields: master_pk_1 details_pk_2 details_pk_3 In the Master class we define the hibernate/JPA annotations like this: @Id @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.SEQUENCE, generator = "idGenerator") @Column(name = "master_pk_1") private long masterPk1; @OneToMany(cascade=CascadeType.ALL) @JoinColumn(name = "master_pk_1", referencedColumnName = "master_pk_1") private List<Details> details = new ArrayList<Details>(); And in the details class I have defined the id and back reference like this: @EmbeddedId @AttributeOverrides( { @AttributeOverride( name = "masterPk1", column = @Column(name = "master_pk_1")), @AttributeOverride(name = "detailsPk2", column = @Column(name = "details_pk_2")), @AttributeOverride(name = "detailsPk2", column = @Column(name = "details_pk_2")) }) private DetailsPrimaryKey detailsPrimaryKey = new DetailsPrimaryKey(); @ManyToOne @JoinColumn(name = "master_pk_1", referencedColumnName = "master_pk_1", insertable=false) private Master master; The goal of all of this was that I could create a new master, add some details to it, and when saved, JPA/Hibernate would generate the new id for master in the masterPk1 field, and automatically pass it down to the details records, storing it in the matching masterPk1 field in the DetailsPrimaryKey class. At least that's what the documentation I've been looking at implies. What actually happens is that hibernate appears to corectly create and update the records in the database, but not pass the key to the details classes in memory. Instead I have to manually set it myself. I also found that without the insertable=true added to the back reference to master, that hibernate would create sql that had the master_pk_1 field listed twice in the insert statement, resulting in the database throwing an exception. My question is simply is this arrangement of annotations correct? or is there a better way of doing it?

• How do I best display CheckBoxes in SQL Server Reporting Services?

  One of the many quirks of Reporting Services we've run across is the complete and utter lack of a CheckBox control or even something remotely similar. We have a form that should appear automatically filled out based on information pulled from a database. We have several bit datatype fields. Printing out "True" or "False" just looks silly, as this is supposed to look like a form that has been auto-filled out, so we want to have a series of checkboxes and labels that are either checked or unchecked. We are running SSRS 2005 but I'm not aware of SSRS 2008 having added a CheckBox control. Even if it did, we'd need to have an alternative for the time being. The best we've found so far is: use Wingdings use images use text boxes with borders and print a blank/space or a capital X All three approaches require IIF expression shenanigans. The Wingdings approach seemed to work acceptably, and was the most aesthetically pleasing except that for whatever reason it didn't always print correctly. More importantly, PDF exports, also for whatever reason, converted all fonts (generally) to Arial and so we got funky letters instead of the Windings dingbats. Images, being a pixel-based raster, don't do so well when printed along side vector stuff like text. Unless handled carefully, they tend to stretch, pixelate, and do other unprofessional looking things. While these methods do work (some with limitations as mentioned above) none of them are particularly elegant. Are we missing something obvious? Not so obvious? Does someone at Microsoft have a good reason why such a control was not provided in SSRS 2000, let alone 2 versions and 8 years later? This can't be the first time this issue has come up...

• Comet Jetty/Tomcat, having some browser issues with Firefox and Chrome

  I am exploring the use of Comet for a project I am working on. I tried creating a test application first using Tomcat6 and CometProcessor API and then with Jetty7 Continuations. The application is kind of working on both but I am having some issues with the actual display of messages. I used the technique of creating an XMLHttpRequest Connection and keeping it open all the time so the server can continuously push data to all the clients connected whenever it is available. My client side code is something similar to this: function fn(){ var xhr = new XMLHttpRequest(); xhr.onreadystatechange = function(){ if (xhr.readyState==3){ document.getElementById('dv').innerHTML =(xhr.responseText); } if (xhr.readyState==4){ alert ('done'); } } xhr.open("GET", "First", true); xhr.send(null); } I found this thing of using readyState 3 somewhere online. I am facing 2 problems currently: In Firefox this code works perfectly. But if I open a new tab or even a new browser window, it does not make a new connection to the server and nothing shows up on the new tab or window, only the first tab/window gets the display. I used wireshark to check this and its shows only 1 connection even after the 2nd tab is opened. I am unable to understand why this would happen. I have read about the 2 connection limit, but here there is only one connection. Secondly in Chrome, the above code does not work, and the callback is not invoked for readystate of 3, only when the connection is closed by the server i get the output. I would also like to ask which is the best way/framework for doing Comet with Java. I am currently using jQuery on the client side. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks

• Silverlight 4 race condition with DataGrid master details control

  Basically I want a DataGrid (master) and details (textbox), where DataGrid is disabled during edit of details (forcing people to save/cancel)... Here's what I have... I have a DataGrid which serves as my master data. <data:DataGrid IsEnabled="{Binding CanLoad,ElementName=dsReminders}" ItemsSource="{Binding Data, ElementName=dsReminders}" > Its data comes from a DomainDataSource: <riaControls:DomainDataSource Name="dsReminders" AutoLoad="True" ... I have a bound Textbox which is the 'details' (very simple right now). There are buttons (Save/Cancel) which should be enabled when user tries to edit the text. Unfortunately Silverlight doesn't support UpdateSourceTrigger=PropertyChanged so I have to raise an event: <TextBox Text="{Binding SelectedItem.AcknowledgedNote, Mode=TwoWay, UpdateSourceTrigger=Explicit, ElementName=gridReminders}" TextChanged="txtAcknowledgedNote_TextChanged"/> The event to handle this calls BindingExpression.UpdateSource to update the source immediately: private void txtAcknowledgedNote_TextChanged(object sender, TextChangedEventArgs e) { BindingExpression be = txtAcknowledgedNote.GetBindingExpression(TextBox.TextProperty); be.UpdateSource(); } IN other words - typing in the textbox causes CanLoad of the DomainDataSource to become False (because we're editing). This in turn disables the DataGrid (IsEnabled is bound to it) and enables 'Cancel' and 'Save' buttons. However I'm running up against a race condition if I move quickly through rows in the DataGrid (just clicking random rows). The TextChanged presumably is being called on the textbox and confusing the DomainDataSource which then thinks there's been a change. So how should I disable the DataGrid while editing without having the race condition? One obvious solution would be to use KeyDown events to trigger the call to UpdateSource but I always hate having to do that.

  Hi, I haven't quite worked this one out yet - how do I set DEBUG for my Console output, and INFO for my FileAppender? That is, how would I change the configuration below so that I can get the ConsoleAppender pumping out all logging from DEBUG upwards?
