• Best way to bundles photos with app: files or in sqlite database?

  Lets say that I have an app that lets you browse through a listing of cars found in a Sqlite database. When you click on a car in the listing, it'll open up a view with the description of the car and a photo of the car. My question is: should I keep the photo in the database as a binary data column in the row for this specific car, or should I have the photo somewhere in the resources directory? Which is better to do? Are there any limitations of Sqlite in terms of how big a binary data column can be? The database will be pretty much be read only and bundled with the app (so the user wouldn't be inserting any cars and their photos).

• Show UIView for app presentation only once in iOS

  I need to show an UIScrollView with some pages for present the app to user when launched for the first time. My slides are working correctly, lefting the logic to present it. Is a good practice to set the UIScrollViewController as root controller and set a NSUserDefault variable to control the presentation and redirect to main controller or set the main ViewController as root normally and call the presentation view if needed is a better approach? If there is a better way to do this can someone help? Thanks.

• Porting a GUI from a pc to a wince device - issue is with the size of the screen

  I have to port a GUI that is currently running on a pc, to a wince device. I have already compiled the code on a win CE platform, the problem is now with the size of the screen of the device which is smaller than some of the dialog boxes of the GUI. I could resize some them in resource view of visual studio 2005. I am unable to proceed further as a lot of screens have bitmaps mapped to them and i cannot just resize the dialog boxes without changing the corresponding bitmaps. What is the best way to proceed- my last resort would be to disable the bitmaps and redraw them at a later stage. is there some method of automatically mapping the size of the screen to all the dialog boxes so that they would automatically resize (alongwith the assocaiated buttons etc)

• Clickable links in UILabel?

  Hi there, I have been searching for this for hours but I failed. I probably don't even know what should I be looking for. Many applications have text and in this text are web hyperlinks in rounded rect, when I click them UIWebView opens. What puzzles me is that they often have custom links, for example if words starts with # it is also clickable and aplication responds by opening another view. How can I do that? Is it possible with UILabel or do I need UITextView or something else? I really hope it is standard functionality and i don't need to subclass anything :/

• Best way to show a loading screen in an iPhone app?

  I'm building what is essentially a web app. Every piece of data has to be fetched from a web API. So, every UITableView that I show takes some amount of time to fill with data and I'm struggling to find a good way to show the user a loading screen. Right now I'm popping up an action sheet, but that just seems a bit wrong. Ideally, I'd popup up a blank view over the tableview with "Loading..." on it, then fade it away when the data comes in, but I can't think of a way to do that in 8 places in my app without massive code duplication.

• Cocoa Touch: Why doesn't UINavigationController render 'Back' button?

  When I push a view controller it animates properly and slides in, the only problem is that no 'Back' button is rendered up top.The back button is still there, I can still tap it, it just doesn't render on the screen. This behavior is identical in both the simulator and on multiple devices. Is this a known issue or bug? Using 3.1.3 of the iPhone SDK. More information: It renders it for further levels, just not on the second level of nav controller. So Main Page (No back button - OK). Second level page (back button, but doesn't render - not OK). Third level page (Back button there and rendering - OK).

  yesterday I noticed the possibility to integrate Fragments in older API Levels through the Compatibility package, but thats not really essential for the question. :) I have a Button with an OnClickListener Button button = (Button) findViewById(R.id.button); button.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { doSomething(); button.setPressed(true); } }); Because of the actual clicking, it is shown as pressed and after releasing the click, the button state is not pressed and stays that way. Is there a simple way that keeps the button state pressed after releasing? First thing I can think of would be some sort of timer, but that seems unreasonable.

• ASMX Web Service - "This web service is using http://tempuri.org/ as its default namespace." message

  I've created a web service using Visual Studio ( 2005 - I know I'm old school ) and it all compiles fine but when it opens I get warned thus: This web service does not conform to WS-I Basic Profile v1.1. And furthermore: This web service is using http://tempuri.org/ as its default namespace. Which would be fine except my service begins thus: [WebService(Namespace = "http://totally-not-default-uri.com/servicename")] Searching the entire solution folder for "tempuri" returns nothing. I can't find it mentioned in any configuration page acessible from Visual Studio. And yet it's right there in the wsdl:definitions list for the xmlns:tns attribute on the web service descriptor page when I view it through the browser and as targetNamespace in the same tag. I'm viewing it using Visual Studio's "debug" mode with the built in server from that. Seems like something has got cached somewhere but I can't work out what and where- I've tried stopping and restarting the server, cleaning and rebuilding the service and going through the associated text config files with a text editor but no dice. Any idea what is going on?

  I'd like to call an action with a link_to button without being redirected to another page(I don't want ajax). For you to have an idea, I'm trying to accomplish a sort "link button" in a search page. So, when the link is clicked, the page should be refreshed showing the list ordered as I tell it in the action. If I do the following in my view, it will ask me for a template called as the action, and I don't want it: <%= link_to 'M&Aacute;S RELEVANTES', search_filter_relevance_path %> My routes file looks like this: map.search_filter_relevance "/anuncios/buscar", :controller => 'announcements', :action => 'search_filter_relevance' And my controller looks like this(I haven't developed the functionality yet): def search_filter_relevance end Any help on this will be appreciated.

• Call a function from another Class - Obj C

  I'm trying to figure out how I can call a function from another one of my classes. I'm using a RootViewController to setup one of my views as lets say AnotherViewController So in my AnotherViewController im going to add in on the .h file @class RootViewController And in the .m file im going to import the View #import "RootViewController.h" I have a function called: -(void)toggleView { //do something } And then in my AnotherViewController I have a button assigned out as: -(void)buttonAction { //} In the buttonAction I would like to be able to call the function toggleView in my RootViewController. Can someone clarify on how I do this. I've tried adding this is my buttonAction: RootViewController * returnRootObject = [[RootViewController alloc] init]; [returnRootObject toggleView]; But I dont think that's right. I am trying to load the animation from inside the constructor of a CursorAdapter, so I can set it later assign it to certain children in the list. My report needs two tables 1 one gives detailed view.(dataset 1) 2 one below that gives a summary table (data should come from the calculations based on the data in 1 table) I am using a temporary table for the dataset one.   Hi, I'm going to try and make as much sense as possible here. We are working on a myfaces 2 app in tomcat. On our local dev machines, whenever we want to change one of our xhtml files, we have to stop the server, deploy and then start the server back up. This is cumbersome and makes making small changes to the view tedious. I tried changing the deployed xhtml file in tomcat, but the server only picks up the new change after a restart. Is there any type of config in myfaces or tomcat I can do to force the rebuilding of these source xhtml's every time?

• Multiple children in single form in rails

  I have a model that has an arbitrary number of children entities. For simplicity lets call the entities Orders and Items. I would like to have a create Orders form where I input the order information, as well as add as many items as I want. If I click the "Add another item" button, a new set of form elements will be added to input the new data, amounts, etc.. I could hack this out in pure javascript, but I'm pretty sure there has to be a more magical, railsish way to do it, maybe with a partial view or something. I'm just a little too new to rails to know what it is. What is the best way to dynamically add the new form elements, and then to access them in the create controller?

  Hello, can anyone tell me how to view executed queries in SharePoint? I couldn't find a way to show query logs with SQL Server. As you know, SharePoint framework hides all queries from programmers. • simple EJB jar deployed in jboss with its own log4j configuration

  Hi All I have a simple EJB jar with a stateless session bean, deployed in JBOSS AS 4.2.2, unde r/server/default/deploy. The bean is registered under JNDI tree as viewed from jboss jmx console and I am able to access it through a remote java client outside JBOSS. Inside EJB jar, I have added some logging to be written to a separate log file, using apache log4j jar and log4j.xml. But I am not able to view any of the logs. Also I do not wish to use jboss-log4j.xml, since there will be many other EJBs to be deployed and wish to have separate log4j for each EJB application. Here is my one of the EJB-jar contents: EJB_DS.jar: log4j.xml classes apache log4j jar is added to /server/default/lib path.   Hi, I often see this idiom when reading php code: public function __construct($config) { if (array_key_exists('options', $config)) { ... } if (array_key_exists('driver_options', $config)) { ... } } Here I am concern with the way the parameter is used. If I were in lisp I would do: (defun ct (&key options driver_options) (do-something-with-option-and-driver_option)) But since I am in PHP I would rather have a constructor that take a list of parameter and let them be null if there a not require. So what do you guys think about having an array as parameter in other to do some initialization-or-whatever? In other to answer you have to take in account the point of view of the user of the function and the designer of the API. Also have you ever heard this has a code-smell? thanks

• I can't seem to connecting any of my IBOutlets between IB and XCode.

  I created a new iPhone project using the built-in "tab bar" template. I put a few sliders, labels, textfields in the view. I added in needed code for: "IBOutlet, @property, @synthesize, and release" for the above UI objects. It saves and compiles without any errors or warnings. I try to hook-up my connections with control-drag, but don't see any of my IBOutlets appearing in the list. I can't seem to "connect" any outlets from IB to my code. (My IBActions all connect fine) What did I do wrong?

  Hello everyone. I have a mobile app webservice client that connects to a WCF webservice(on my PC) deployed in a WiMo Device. The OS is Windows Mobile 6.0. It is connected to my PC using a USB cable and ActiveSync 4.5. Problem: When I use a mobile emulator to run the application, it was able to connect to the web service successfully. But if I use the mobile phone to run the application, it cannot connect to the web service. However, I can view the webservice's test webpage using phone's browser(IE) (http://153.xxx.xxx.xxx:8080/Design_Time_Addresses/SOAP11demo/Service1/) Can you guys help me identify on what is wrong?

  I m a graphic designer and have created a website in Joomla that uses a "lightbox" (ignite gallery) plugin to view images from the site. I have created a facebook 'website' app that allows for comments to be posted via facebook in the lightbox (also a like button) - all of which are really just options that you allow in the ignite gallery options. Everything seems to work fine, I can comment and it will appear under the photo in the lightbox, as I asked it too, it also sends a copy of the comment to the commenter's facebook page with links. How do I also get the comments from the website (lightbox plugin) to also appear on the clients "fan page" that already exists?? Much appreciate any help..

• Can't return a String value and append it...why?

  I am writing an app and am having problems returning a simple string value, and I'm not sure why. The function I am using (within a file called APIManager.m) is: - (NSString*) returnVenueUrl { NSString *venueUrl = [devEnvironment stringByAppendingString:@"venue/id/"]; return venueUrl; } I can return this properly by doing this in another .m file: APIManager *apiManager = [APIManager apiManager]; NSLog(@"view venue URL is here: %@", [apiManager returnVenueUrl]); But when I go to append a variable cast as a String onto it, I get nothing.. venueURL = [apiManager returnVenueUrl]; venueURL = [venueURL stringByAppendingString:venueId]; NSLog(@"the Full Venue URL is: %", venueURL); If anyone has any advice on how to fix this, it would be much appreciated!

• Returning a ReadOnlyCollection from a method with an IList return type

  Here I have the following bit of code: private IList<IState> _states = new List<IState>(); private ReadOnlyCollection<IState> _statesViewer; public IList<IState> States { get { return _statesViewer; } } Generally it is preferable to return interfaces than the concrete classes themselves, but in this case, shouldn't I set as the return type of the States property a ReadOnlyCollection? Any user of my library will think it is possible to anything you can do with an IList if I set it as so, and that means adding elements. That is not true and I'm definitely breaking the contract exposing it as an IList. Am I right with this view or there is something else I am missing here?
